As title states, I'm experiencing lag/delay using wifi calling. I can hear what my party says about 2 seconds after they say it and vice-versa... makes normal flowing conversations become frustrating. My ISP isn't lagging and my router isn't having any issues. Anyone else experiencing this? I'm sure some people may not notice it at first....
No lag at all
I have a LOT of experience using UMA on Nokia and others and later the horrible attempt at the software version of WiFi calling on a Motorolla Cliq2 .... overseas etc as well.
And I can tell you conclusively that the new WiFi calling on the GS2 is as good as hardware UMA. No lag. In fact it almost feels / sounds better than a regular cell call.
I was calling my parents in Cambodia with wifi calling and it makes them so clear.usually with regular calling I would hear them fade out or have static.

Has anyone else had issues using WiFi calling after applying the OTS 2.2.1 update?
Trying to make a WiFi call seems to be utilizing almost all of the phone's resources and making it hang for a long period of time. Ending the call takes forever, and neither the called party nor the calling party can hear each other at all.
This is acting up regardless of which WiFi network I'm connected to, etc.
I'm downgrading to 2.1 again to see if it still works, but wondered if anyone else ran into this issue.
Thanks
d3po
Actually, my wifi calling is much improved since 2.2.1. I have not done a factory reset since the upgrade, maybe you have?
I figured out that the root of the issue seems to be either Milestone OC or SetCPU. I uninstalled them and it's been fine.
I'll see which one is the culprit and post again.
Did you ever figure which was at fault as my wifi calling has degraded.
Thanks
My wifi calling has always been poor. There's a consistent 3-4 second lag in voice. Makes taking important calls very difficult. No 3G in my town, and I barely have 1 bar in my house, so I gotta use wifi.
So the wifi calling app for G2 (and before when I had a MT4g) just really is no good.
Is there anything I can do to improve the call quality? I have full wifi bars whenever I'm on my home wifi network but the quality goes from very loud and good to extremely quiet (to the point where I think the call may have dropped) and then just stays there forever. It will occasionally peak up to great quality for a second or two but then goes back down to nothing.
So bottom line is: I'd love to use this app as it will not use my minutes which is awesome but the quality is just too bad for me to even use. My internet speeds are always 9mbps or more, by wifi is wireless g but I don't think that should make a diff. The speedtest.net app on my phone ensures I get those same 9mbps or more speeds on my phone as well.
Or does this feature just suck?
I use wifi calling all the time and my calls are clear. Are you still using the froyo stock wifi calling? The new version in gingerbread is quite a bit better.

I use Virtuous G-Lite 1.0.3 so I use whatever version is included with that ROM. Can I update the wi-fi calling app? and if so, how?
My calls are clear on WiFi calling. What type of router do you have and what kind of usage is it seeing while you're making calls? Sounds like it might just be a bandwidth issue?

I use a netgear wireless g router. I'm 99% sure it is not a bandwidth issue. My bandwidth isuaully around 20mbps and certainly never below 9mbps. Like I said in the OP my speed test app also suggests that bandwidth is fine as that usually reads in the 12 mbps area.
Call quality does not change with network usage... It's the same if I'm doing nothing or actively using it. I'm just not sure what the problem could be...
Hi all,
I searched the forums for this topic and haven't been able to find anything that addessess this exactly...
I have a rooted SGS2 with Whitehawkx's rom installed. I have been using it for over a week now and noticed that even if wifi calling is enabled, I often get an "unable to connect" error, then when I actually get the Wifi calling to work, the call quality is really bad.
Has anyone else experienced this? If so is there any kind of fix or work-around?
Thanks!
Madi
Are you using the sim card that came with the device? That could be the problem.
Sent from my SGH-T989
I got a new SIM card when I bought the phone. It does "work" meaning I can usually get wifi calling enabled after a few tries, although not always.
When I call comes in the wifi calling icon goes from blue to green, like it's supposed too, but the calls sounds like the person on the other end has a very bad stutter, so I miss half the conversation...
Madi
In that case I don't know what could be causing that problem. IM currently running juggernaut 4.0 with the new modem and wifi calling is working perfectly. I hope someone can help!

How is the quality of your internet connection?
Sometimes poor internet or local isp might be the problem.
Try running speedtest.net test and report

I am getting 5424 kbps download and 356 kbps upload...
Call quality on Wifi calling could be because of ANYTHING , network related, it is a VOIP based service.
The things that could be causing it,
Internet Connection (not just speed but packet loss)
Router (the type of router , including firewall, and stateful packet inspection, UPNP)
Wireless Access Point, try changing the channel on your AP
and many more things , related to network traffic ..
My call quality bounces from great to crappy depending on what is going on, on my network.
Hi thanks for the info. Tried connecting to a different router, was using my new Cisco, Burr had better quality when connected to my old Belkin. It's stool not great but it's better.
Thanks

just wanted to bump this thread as I am having the same problems stated in the OP.
Info in sig. got a new sim card from tmobile today. got home, connected to wifi calling, worked for about an hour with choppy quality then disconnected. tried connecting again later on and keep getting the "Error REG99 Unable To Connect" message
Tmobile support forums say this is a known issue with the SGS2 but am just wondering if others are experiencing the issue and weather its rom related or the service is down altogether.
i also tried flashing different kernel just in case (faux to darkside) but no results
anybody insight or suggestion are appreciated
will also try flashing Blaze LB7 radio
I have an unrooted Galaxy S4 Spark. I always connect, but the voice is totally unuseable.
It's not my network. I can run video calls on Skype while downloading large files at the same time.
I don't think Sprint has their heart in Wi-Fi calling. I also suspect they have allocated VERY LITTLE bandwidth to support it.
A couple friends have complained I cut out while on wifi calling. I don't notice them dropping. Any ideas?
I'm on Darkside 2.5.1, my network hardware is...connected to Linksys E3000 operating as an AP, upstream is a Linksys E4200, Cox is my ISP 25 Meg circuit. Ping times over the same wifi connection are always under 35ms.

I had that happen when I would walk to far away from the Router...is this happening when your standing close to it? Seems odd for sure.
Kinda off topic but have u noticed voice lag when using wifi calling?
I have stopped using wifi calling as the voice lag is disturbing compared to using the cell network which has no voice lag issues.. Makes zero sense to me.

I havent noticed any lag, just apparently cutting out. Im not far away from my router either...full signal. Im going to try an experiment and connect to the main router upstairs instead of my AP downstairs...maybe something in that connection is causing it.
I've had problems when using a bluetooth headset while on wifi calling. This happens on stock and on both roms I've tried. I don't have trouble with wifi calling as long as I stay off of the headset.

I've experienced the same issue but always blamed it on my Internet connection.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
Its not the internet connection, for some reason the current ROMS dont play well with wifi sharing, or should I say Wifi and Data connection. I was running Juggernaut5.0 when I noticed that the wifi would stop working after 15mins. I also used All Share and it at the same time wifi calling would stop working. I also noticed when I woke the phone from sleep state, the 4g symbol would return and then I would loose wifi calling. The 4g would disappear and only wifi would show but calling still wouldnt connect. I returned to my nandroid of the stock rooted and I havent had an issue since. Wifi calling will always work along with allshare. One thing that I did notice is that airplane mode would help keep the consistency across the board. IDK
P.S. my gateway is in my bedroom where I mainly use my phone. Most of the time its in arms reach, sits right next to my xbox
Well I set my phone to connect to my main router upstairs instead of the AP downstairs. It seems to have helped a bit. Friends reported far less cut outs. Only a couple in a 20 min call.
Perhaps there are others with similar set up having similar issues this may help.

I love the phone and having the hardest time resisting turning the phone back in. I'm on my 2nd S3 and my third Sim card. Everything appears to be going well but I noticed that when my phone is in WiFi calling mode, incoming calls go straight to voice mail. I don't get an alert or anything. If they leave a voicemail, I get that. I searched other phones that have had this issue not just the S3. I am running stock OS but I am rooted.
Can anyone else verify that there incoming calls are working on Wifi Calling ? Any ideas on what I could try ? outgoing calls work fine.
EDIT: Sometimes calls go through, sometimes it doesn't. When it does go through, I can't swipe the green button to answer. It goes through the swipe motion but nothing happens. When I am off of WiFi calling, I can receive calls correctly and I can properly swipe to answer them

Ah-ha, you just solved a mystery for me! I like to have my phone automatically connect to any wifi in my usual hangouts to save data. I kept wondering why I was missing calls without hearing my ringtone. I have a theory on what is happening. Back on my old Vibrant, wifi-calling could not work on slower networks. I could get it to initialize but never could it actually make a call. I noticed this when up in the mountains at a lodge that had very slow internet. Maybe it's the same issue? Hopefully others will chime in.
Not sure if this a slow network issue or and ICS issue. My S3 does this also and is frustrating since I auto connect to wifi at home and work. Keep missing damn calls. My S2 started doing the same thing when I updated from GB to ICS. Maybe its a Samsung and ICS thing now that I think about it because the wife and kids all run ICS on HTC Amaze without issue.

Disappointing. Are you on T-mobile? (I expect yes as this, to my understanding, is the only US network licensed to use wifi calling?)
I am thinking of buying an S3 but I have to have wifi calling working on UK operator orange.

I think most of these threads are locked because XDA is trying to separate them all. Anyways, this is the only way I could respond. Since my first post, I have had more positive experiences with wifi-calling. I think it may be a little of both, slow connection and this newer implementation. On a slow connection it definitely wont work correctly which is what I would expect. What I mean is you can't successfully answer or make a call as the phone app will just hang. Going straight to Voicemail is another mystery altogether. I have 4g internet at home so there is no reason I can think of for that to happen. But like I said since my first post I have successfully made and answered several calls from home using wifi-calling and even a few from a location that had decent internet. Call quality was decent for what it is.
Guys, take a look at this thread. It concerns wifi signal dropping and re-enabling. That would certainly explain why some of the calls made to me when I was at home on wifi went to Voicemail even though I have 4g. I did notice some of this last week.

This happens on sprint phones as well...
I see this thread is open again. My experiences with wifi-calling have bore out what I thought: A weak signal will cause problems. I only wish that every call went to voicemail. What happens often with me is that wifi-calling will partially work, as in I can answer a call but the person can't hear me at all and I may catch one or two words from them. If they terminate the call, the phone app is fine, but if I terminate the call, the phone app hangs and freezes everything! Today it was so bad I had to pull the battery and reboot. Maybe wifi calls going to voicemail is an imperfect function that Samsung or rather T-Mobile built into the app. It kinda makes sense as this app could never complete a wifi call if you were connected to slow internet when it was a separate app. In any case I would rather have my wifi calls go straight to voicemail (and get a pop-up notification) than have the app try to work but wind up hanging my phone. What do you guys think?
I don't know about slow networks. I've already exchanged one T-Mobile S III because of Wi-Fi calling problems. My replacement works much better on my work network than it does on my home network and it is much, much slower than my home network is.

This isn't particularly good news for me. If it isn't software problem that manifests when coupled with a slow network then a future update won't fix it. That's what I was hoping the problem would turn out to be. If its hardware, then the time I have to do something about it is limited as I dropped my first phone and the replacement has a limited warranty, I think. Plus, I've paid to have invisi-shield placed on the front and back and would have to eat that cost if I get another replacement.
Epic Fail
I have this issue and am at my wits end to resolve it. Wifi calling is a major feature that worked fine(except echo) with my Vibrant. However, nothing I have tried will fix my ability to answer calls on WiFi. I have the SIM from the GS3 box. My E911 address exists since my bb8900. WiFi Power Save is off. All routers I use, Linksys E4200 and Linksys WNR1000, Linksys 614. Wireless N and G. T-mo CS could not help. I understand that the WiFi calling changed from UMA to IMS. No separate app. GS2 users with same issue. Anyone with a clue? Please help.

how did you turn off the wifi power save?
I experience the bad quality calls on wifi, at my workplace it is perfect, but at my home, its terrible.
my home network is faster than my workplace.
I think this is something to do with the firewall as well.
and I couldn't find the way to turn off firewall on the dam verizon fios actionnet router.

you can also try to broadcast the wifi on channel 3 only, that helped me in my case.
WPSM
There is a link earlier in this thread to another XDA thread. Phone app --> *#0011# --> menu button --> WiFi--> Press WPSM On/Off button.
My GS3 would drop a WiFi signal 3 inches from the router at work and 3 feet from the router at home. At least THAT is fixed now. However, I don't seem to get the same WiFi signal range as my Vibrant did using the same routers Trying the channel 3. I do have a few setting set to auto at least on my home router.

Yes, that's required, but not the underlying issue of the thread.
I've had wifi calling weirdness too. I called my sisters Verizon cell and there was no tone but after xx seconds it got her voicemail. When I call my phone on my house phone (Comcast) my phone rings but there's no tone on the house phone!
I NEVER get a ring. Just someone picks up our voicemail does.
