I put all my songs on my GNex in FLAC format but I dont know how to make it display the album art.
Is there some way I can just move a file from my computer to the GNex and name it something special to make it work?
Basically, what do I need to do to make it show album art? Right now it just shows the colored boxed depending if it is a song or album etc.
I looked for a while on how to do it but I just cannot seem to find anything about how to make album art appear.
Just so everyone knows I ripped all the music from CDs to FLAC, then just dragged and dropped all the music onto the GNex with every album and artist having its own folder with a jpeg in the folder titled "cover.jpg" since that is what worked with foobar2000.
Never mind, they finally popped up for no reason. I guess they just took a long time to load.

Does anyone know where the TP2 stores Album Art - and how you can update it?
I have a lot of music of my storage card (approx 10Gb) and there are quite few of the songs which either have no artwork in Audio Manager or in some cases the wrong picture (which can be confusing).
Anyone know of a way of correcting it?
Cheers,
Jim.
If you have a file called "folder.jpg" in the same folder as some of your audio files, that will be displayed while the files in that folder are playing.
It is also possible to embed artwork in individual audio file tags. I don't know which takes priority - so if there is artwork embedded in a file and a folder.jpg in the directory, the player will show one or the other but I don't know which!
Thats weird, i have embedded the art in all my files recently but the Audio manager does not show it. Is there a way to refresh it?

Good question. I'm getting more confused (and frustrated) by this problem myself. I have found out how to update album art in Windows Media Player on the PC successfully - but then when I sync across to the TP2 it doesn't always work.
I even have at least one album on the TP2 now, where there is no image on the Audio Manager tab (or just a generic one), but if I open this file in File Explorer (which opens Media Player) it shows the correct image!
If anyone can explain that, I'd love to hear it....
I think the problem is (unfortunately) Audio Manager doesn't read embedded album art, only the folder.jpg files. I wish they'd update it.
Also, anyone know what the best audio manager/player for the tp2 is?
I have no jpegs in my folders whatsoever, but some albums show album art, so i guess Audio Manager reads embedded art after all. It's just so that it seems to cache it and never refreshes the cache.
I just got the tough pro 2 with TFHD and I've been trying to work on this problem all day.
I have all my music inside one folder on my SD card called "Music" all the album artwork is embedded into the MP3.
When the touchflo sees the music it takes a random album artwork from one of my songs, AND MAKES IT THE SAME FOR ALL. Its driving me nuts! Every song in my library has the same album artwork. At this point I just want to not even use the album artwork because its so frustrating.
Does anybody have any suggestions? I deleted the HTC/AudioManager_Eng/AudioManager_Eng file, and that still didnt work.
Thanks!

Try deleting all your music, doing a soft reset and then re-import your music via windows media player. Update your library via windows media player on the TP2, one more soft reset and then it should work. It helped me fix the problem.

Mate, did the same thing on mine.
The Tab Player is really a piece o junk in comparison to say, Nitrogen!
I even deleted the cache on mine after having the same issue, it then happily picked another singular album cover and ran that onto everything again. I do not think you should HAVE to run a playlist through Media Player to work properly, this is an HTC issue and with luck, may get dealt with on the WM 6.5 update.
In the meantime, use Nitrogen, truckloads beter than the TAB and Media Player and it is well supported, essentially free and WORKS really well on TP2.
Cheers

I did everything and it still didnt work so here was my fix:
I set iTunes to manage my music, then dragged all my music into iTunes. Once the music made a copy into my library, I went into my Itunes music folder and all my music was in folders that corresponded to artist, and album.
Then I dragged all these folders and music into my phone and the album art worked correctly because each album had its own folder with an image.
Interesting. That is how my music is organized (wmp can organize your music files too) and I haven't had that problem so that must be the trick.
It s been very difficult for me to add the album arts to the HTC music player..
But it's done
I write this post if someone else is concerned by this issue, juste do this:
- I found that it's hard for the player to read the "Albumart.jpg" file in the directory so you will have to add the picture in the tags of the mp3 (media monkey is very good for that)
- The most important: Even with the previous step the pictures didn't appear.. I found the solution by chance..
If you want your pictures to appear you have to rename in the directory Music>Artist>Album the album names with a name different from the name of the album in your mp3 tags.
I really can't understand that but anyway it works!
OMG Thank You!! works on HTC Evo
I use MediaMonkey too and have the album art embedded in the tag rather than as a separate file. I just copied everything over manually using explorer and all the art work showed up immediately - maybe I just got lucky....
Just tried this with some albums where the art wouldn't show up and sure enough, it works. Why on earth does it rely on the directory name to match the tag? Madness

I have all my artworks embedded directly in mp3 files and all of them are i one big directory called Music.
I'm not sure how can I achieve correct (or any) artwork to be shown....
the htc player won't recognize any changes unless you rename the folder as you have already found. An easier solution is to go into settings - manage applications - media storage - clear data. This will wipe the media database. Reboot your phone. Open music app - be patient while the database is rebuilt.
The only reason why i am using the HTC Music App is because of its integration with the lock screen.. that feature has got me by the balls, because everything else of the app suck!
No good way to search by folder, bad album art management!
Horrible in my opinion: if you bunch up all your music together in a single directory it work pick up correct album art, u can't put it in any directory it must be in sdcard\media directory, you must sort by album name .. .too many limitations! not everyone sorts their music colection by album names and create album names for every song! Jeez! Fix it HTC!
Album Art display workaround
For me non of the solutions worked on HTC Inspire - very frustrating in addition to other crap constantly starting like Facebook - which I hate etc.
But I connected the phone to PC and browsed on the SDCard for Android/data/com.android.providers.media and I deleted the whole folder. After that all album arts are visible again in both players HTC and winamp. Now I have to find the solution for the disappearing playlists
Morning all
I've had a look at the search function but nothing seems to answer my question
After coming from the HD2 with flawless sync'ing with WM12 i now have a better phone that won't sync at all with windows media player. Nothing appears at all in the WM12 windows when i am connected in Disk drive mode or HTC sync.
I have tried media monkey but have all my music sorted via WM12. does anyone know how its possible to sort it or am i flogging a dead horse?
thanks
I'm stealing your thread here a bit. I wonder how you organize your music to get the album art to show up.
On my old Touch Diamond 2 I put the music on my storage card like this (Storage card\music\artist\album), in every album I had the files included in the album and a album art named Folder.jpg, HTC music player then made it's own album art based on the ones I put and scaled them. Is it the same on the Desire?
my albums that are organised off WM12 which either get the album art manually when i drag and drop it or they download auto appear in the Desire however some don't no idea why and i have given up trying. The desire seems to arrange its music is singles even for albums so you end up with loads of folders and 1 file inside instead of 1 artist and then the albums for them like in the HD2.
But still i do require an answer for WM12 if anyone knows
windows mobile is made to sync with wmp12 obviously android isnt, the htc music player can read wmp id3 tags so as long as you music is organised in wmp12, just copy the albums to your sd card and all the album art and track names should show up the same, it does for me anyway

i organise my music like /sdcard/my documents/music and just drop the folder with indervidual albums into the music folder, like on my pc, and it all works sweet for me also i dont put any album art in, as thats included in the id3 tag
whats the way that you get playlists onto the desire quicker than making them on the phone its self?
i'm assuming that if i make the playlist via windows then drop it onto the phone it won't work due to the files addresses pointing to PC directories.
I have a few albums where the album art refuses to change no matter which program I use.
Based on some searching I found that if you delete all files in "com.android.providers.media\albumthumbs" that the phone should stop forcing its art on specific albums. However after doing so you also have to change the folder to read-only.
I did this on an old s5 neo and it worked.
However on my current s9 I don't have the option to delete files in this folder. So, I found the folder by connecting my phone to my pc and deleted all the files... but I can't change the permission of the folder either on my phone or pc to read-only, so the album art is still not changing.
Tried a bunch of different apps, and in the apps the art is ok, but in the actual music player it's not.
Is there any work around for this? Or any other way to force the album art to change? Any way to change the folder to read-only?
Thanks!
It seems strange that art wouldn't change. Are you sure there isn't art embedded into the files? Download a music tagger, I recommend Mp3tag if you're on Windows, and open the files in there to see if there's any art embedded. Also make sure there isn't a hidden folder.jpg anywhere. If you can't figure it out maybe upload one of the files and I'll have a look to see if I can find the problem.
Hey sure thanks so much if you could help that'd be great.
Here is one of the files. I just opened it in mp3tag, deleted the album art, added a high quality pic. Yet when I uploaded to my phone it still shows some low quality crap as album art.

I've taken a look and the file appears to be OK. Did you happen to check if the previously embedded pic was low quality? Because if it was you might just need to clear albumthumbs again, then recopy over the album with the high quality art embedded in each file (you might also just be able to put it as folder.jpg in the same folder with no embeds on any files, not certain if that works) and let the cache regenerate.
If that doesn't work then I have a couple more questions - how low quality are you talking (a screenshot would be helpful), and what music player are you using? Because testing the file in Samsung Music looks fine to me. You could also have a look at another music player with an option to ignore mediastore's cached covers (which are usually compressed more) and reads the art directly from the file. There are a bunch available that can do this like Retro, Shuttle, Phonograph, Poweramp, and probably tons more.
I've attached screenshots of what it looks like for me on Retro (with mediastore disabled) and Samsung Music.
Hey no I didn't check the previously embeded pic. I did however clear albumthumbs and then recopied the song, but still didn't work. Don't know what the f is up with this phone lol.
I'm not sure what you mean with the folder.jpg. I'm supposed to name the album art file folder.jpg?
Ya mine doesn't look like that unfortunately. Here's a pic of how mine looks on Samsung music player. Also here's the pic I'm trying to use.

Welp, my last idea apart from trying a different music player is to clear the data of Samsung Music. If that doesn't work, I probably can't help sorry.
By the folder.jpg thing I mean instead of embedding the file in every MP3 on an album, which takes up more space (say your album cover is 700 kilobytes across 10 songs, that's 7 megabytes), you can just put it in the same folder as the files (like the attached image). It could also take priority depending on the app, not sure how Samsung Music handles it.
That's alright thanks so much so far.
How do I clear the data from samsung music?
In terms of putting the album art in the same folder as the files... do I do that on my phone or my computer?

Open Settings, then go to Apps, find and tap on Samsung Music, then tap Storage, and Clear data. And you can do it on either.

Oh man thanks so much... it finally worked. There are still a couple albums which it didn't work for but it worked for most. Maybe clearing albumthumbs again will work.
Also there's another problem, lol. The mini album art at the bottom of the screen shows up as the old one instead of the new one. I'm gonna try clearing albumthumbs and samsung music again and hopefully that fixes it.
Hey so I (or better you) figured it out finally. If you change the album art right before you clear samsung music then after clearing it will show up with the correct album art in all places. Some of the older ones I changed didn't show up, but if I changed them right before clearing they all showed up perfectly.
