[Q] Recovering MIUI Notes - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I looked through other threads and searches and searched and couldnt find an answer, sorry if i bother or upset anyone by starting this new thread, that is not my intentions.
Model-Droid Incredible
Previous Rom-MIUI
Current Rom MCsense 2.5
Simple question, frustrating topic (on my behalf), doubtful answer.
Ok soooo, the MIUI roms has a stock notes app. I used it frequently and had some notes on there i wish i had now. Problem is, MIUI started giving me problems force stopping and what not and i was forced to flash a new rom. IT didnt cross my mind to screen shot the notes as the notes i had weren't the first thing on my mind. I know MIUI had/has its own file when you look in the file manager on your phone but my question is:
Were the notes on the MIUI notes app saved in any way, in any place on the sdcard or phone to where i could recover the notes i had when MIUI was my functioning rom. I still have the MIUI folder on my phone but i cannot find the notes i HAD but i know they were saved obviously because they were saved when the rom was functioning. Anyone have any ideas?
I assume i've lost the notes forever but this was worth asking to me. Please forgive me is i piss anyone off by starting this new thread but i honestly did look and search on here and Google and other forum sites including looking through MIUI info. Thanks for your time spent reading.

If you did a nandroid of your last miui install just restore it, write down your notes, and then nandroid back to your current rom. That is probably the only way.

Try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22472681&postcount=8

Miui export tool
In Miui notes if you use the Menu key you will get an option for exporting text to your SD card. Select this option and your notes will be backed up to your SD.

MIUI Notes data export with Titanium Backup
Hello,
maybe im too late reply this question, but i hope it usefull for any who needed this info right now.
I found myself exported my MIUI Notes data to *.csv format. For someone who (only) need the content of their MIUI Notes, may try this:
1. Install Titanium Backup (with root rights, of course),
2. Tap Backup/Restore,
3. Tap & hold on Notes app (it will open the special features)
4. Tap on "Explore" (it will open the location of the data. The accesible field were in bold font)
5. Tap on "
data" (it will summon the "Select the columns for CSV"), tick whichever field you prefers.
6. Tap on "Save file locally" or other options fit to your need
7. Locate the CSV file, open with office application.
Ahh, finished ! :victory:

Hi. Is it working..? I want to backup my notes too before change my ROM

This .csv seems to be OK on the Phone, with english and russian letters (my native language is russian). But when open on PC = all russian symbols are hieroglyphs, like wrong coding or something.
I think it's solvable, but more important question is how to restore from that .CSV to Google Keep or ColorNote or another app that supports multi-platform synchro?

HTCustom 1.8 cab

Ok, apologies if this is a dumb question from a relative newbie.
I found a thread to download "HTCustom 1.8 cab" (by Shadowmite), and need some help.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=316416
1. It's a year since it was posted, so is it still valid and a recommended download? I have read that amongst other things it will allow me to not have sim contacts listed as well as phone contacts, as well as improve the volume of incoming calls, so I am keen to try it out, as long as there is absolutely NO RISK FACTOR (I can make do without it!).
2. HOW DO I INSTALL IT? I save it to my desktop. It's a zip file which when opened presents me with the 3 files "HTcustom.000", "ooocab90.001", and "setup.xml". What do I do now???
Apologies, but I've always used activesync to install cabs so am not sure what part of the zip file to move to my pda and where exactly to put it!
Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Matt.
ANSWERED ELSEWHERE - APPARENTLY IT'S NOT A ZIP, IT'S JUST RECOGNISED BY MY LAPTOP AS A ZIP. Thanks.

Wall of Questions

1) What is: Nandroid, Titanium Backup, Rom Manager, Estrong Manager, AmonRa
to be specific - do I need all of them or just 1-2 of them?
2) What is the difference?
I read some perfer Clockwork Recover while other says there has been issues with it but AmonRa hasnt.
3)Answered
4) Do I really have to WIPE every time I switch (Flash) Rom?
I have read few posts that mention they don't do it and never had an issue.
What is the purpose of Wiping?
5) AOSP?? huh new jargon (working on it)
6) Answered
7) Confirm if im doing this right:
Download (new-rom.zip) - move to sd card - do one of the following: (nandroid, titanium or both?) - turn off phone, turn on to recovery mode, wipe (optional?), factory reset (optional?), wipe cache/delv (optional?), install zip, yada yada yada...?
8) What happens if I get (insert ROM) and open it's zip, remove the stuff I want out than rezip and load? good idea or bad idea?
9) What is a Launcher? how many types of Launcher are there? Adw, Pro, X, Y, Z?
I'll think of more later on. Sorry for the massive noob question. Im constantly reading the dev section forums and seeing several jargons im not fully understanding and alot of apps that some uses over the other.
dude, these are beyond noob questions.
every question in your post can easily be answered with a few minutes of searching.
I'm almost tempted to answer your questions but you need to learn this stuff, and not by having it spoon-fed to you, not to mention the subject matters you ask about would take a great deal of my precious time to explain. You read enough to get your phone rooted without bricking it, keep up the reading.
We all learned a ton of new stuff when we first got into android phones. Those with LINUX experience had a shorter learning curve, I for one had zero experience with LINUX. And most of us learned it by SEARCHING and READING. The more of this stuff you learn by your own research the better, you will have an actual understanding of how these things work.
If you want I will answer ONE of the above questions, in depth. Your choice..
Im constantly reading and I getting alot of contradiction answers. Thus im trying to break each one apart on pro/con. I guess my main concern that a search won't find an answer would be:
6) How do I get access into the Internal Memory?
caused I have searched using (internal storage, internal memory) and been unable to find an answer to it.

Get a file explorer. They work very similarly to explorer windows in Windows. You'll be able to see the file structure, remove files you don't want, add ones you want, move stuff around (which is especially useful for managing your sdcard)
I prefer Root Explorer, but it's a paid app. If you want a free option just to get your feet wet then get Astro File Manager from the market and start poking around just DO NOT DELETE ANYTHING unless you KNOW what it is and KNOW you don't want it anymore.
One tip regarding removing apps.. if you're not sure what the outcome will be you can add something like ".bak" to the end of the filename which essentially makes the file invisible to the system without removing it yet.
Although if it's a system critical apk then you might get a boot loop, in which case you will need a nandroid backup ready to restore.
what im currently doing now is constantly flashing 2.2 stock
I read titanium removes apps and I learned Sprint Zone = promotional.apk that is required to stay on to use *2 *3 dial...
But the .bak thing is nice, basically if I can't remove it, I still be able not to see it.
now as far as the .bak is concern - where do I rename it from? from the root explorer app? just long press it & rename the .xxx to .bak? or .xxx.bak?
you do not need sprint zone for anything
rename or remove files using a file explorer, and I don't know what you mean by "if I can't remove it".. you can remove any file using a file explorer
I usually just add .bak to whatever extension is already there. So if you're using LauncherPro and want to see if removing rosie.apk causes any problems (it wont, you can do without it just fine as long as you have another launcher installed) rename it to rosie.apk.bak and reboot
alright, btw I tried astro and it only shows me the folders/app of my SD card.
Im not looking to mess with those.
I want to view the Internal phone memory and possibly the Bios.
Second, with Astrofile - Let's say Amazonmp3 - im able to find that but within the stock2.2 rom.zip - removing from that zip wont change anything though unless I re-flash it, correct?
I am under the impression, once I flash a rom.zip, I can remove that rom.zip out of the sd card. the info is stored internally or in the bios. That is where I want to get acess to.
I know through titanium - if I find amazonmp3 and un-install from there, it removes from my phone.
there is no bios on android
astro's default view is the sdcard, you can go up one level and see all the system folders
yes, once you flash the rom you can remove the rom's zip from your sdcard but you might as well leave it in case you need to reflash it

[Q]Some curiosity about my desire

Hello ppl,
I am a little curious about my desire and have some really silly questions...I would be really thankful if you answer some questions for me
1) My desire doesn't boot if memory card is changed or not inserted...Is it because my dalvik cache is on sd??I have a custom rom named
.AuraxTSense v7.6.1
Sense-FroYo 2.2 Official OTA
( FRF91 Fast l SYSRW l 720p| Stable | AP2SD+ | MULTILANGUAGE | Undervolt )
2) Can I connect my phone to my desktop via wifi??If yes,can I use it to share files??
3) What is Open Vpn??
4) While inserting a recipient for sending sms,if I select the "people icon" on top, then even e-mail addresses show up eventhough I have un-ticked google accounts in the settings where it is asked that "what all contacts to be displayed" I have only ticked phone contacts..
5) What is difference between AmonRa and Clockwork Recovery mod?? I have clockwork recovery mod installed by default in my phone...Which one is better of the two??
6) Is there anyway to backup and restore apps so that I don't have to install all the apps again after I install a new custom ROM???
sorry for double post but can anyone please do the favour of answering these simple questions??
1. you've installed all apps and cache on the SD card, so removing the SD card is stupid. Why should you? You can connect it via USB.
2. Yes. Yes, use the search to find results.
3. Don't know if you mean the same thing, it's a Windows, Linux program, Google is your friend.
4. Maybe because your contacts contain the mail addresses, too.
5. Both are good. When I took a look at AmonRa and compared it to ClockworkMod I just noticed that AmonRa has a few more features, like creating a partition and having a command prompt, however, it seemed outdated to me. i don't know the differences exactly, if you want to know it better, just use the search.
6. Yes, use the fu**ing search. Titanium Backup and MyBackup.
you have got almost all the answers in the above post but still
3)VPN- virtual private network,,,, i cant explain about it now ,,,google it
4)Yes it is the common issue ,,but it is solved in New sense ROM which is ported form htc desire HD,
in old sense roms if you still want the solution delete all the contact under google account i.e All e-mail ids. be care full dont delete your phone and sim contacts during the process
5) Both do almost same work but i chose clock recovery since it is supported by ROM manager
6)Use Mybackup-pro or titanium backup
thnx a lot for the answers people,it really helped me!!

Whatsapp doesnt restore Backups

atm im jumping between different roms while waiting for next cm release. i also use whatsapp. everywhere on the net its is said that WA is supposed to ask me to restore previously made backups. BUT IT NEVER DID!
does anyone know how to restore those backups? or better: whats the problem with ace/WA? i have tons of backups, but could never use them-.-
things i already did:
- install, then add backup
- put backup into sd, then install
- searched here and found a tool that was supposed to show the chats in browser (and it failed hard (XD), what doesnt matters, cuz it doesnt solve the problem)
these chatts dont contain highly important information, but it would be very nice to have them back
thanks in advance
hmm me use whatsapp too.. as long as i remember... i never make backups.. but after switching roms.. it always ask me to restore from backup or not.. dunno either..
there is a possibility to manually make backups of WA chats. i saved the folder, flashed, put the folder back, installed: nothing happened

i switch roms often too. and whatsapp.. well it does ask me to restore from the backup..
u could try an alternative - use titanium backup to backup the application+data.
that way when u restore from titanium, u will have ur messages back.
i dont need titanium for that. the files it rstores the chats with are at /data/data/com.whatsapp
i had an old nandroid backup (stock rom), extracted those files, copied them in their place (see above) and it "worked". i dont get asked to restore, but the chats are "just there". and you cant tell me this is normal. this is only possible if you are rooted. afaik no stock rom is usually rooted
but even the official wa help states, that ONLY the folder on SD card has to be copied to new device/new rom and it should work. WhyTF it doesnt do it for me?
€: sry fogot that: the nand-BU is old as hell. the chats i want to restore are from a rom already deleted/overwritten so restoring via titanium would be a bit hard (cuz theres no backup of that rom. there was no reason for that)
Can someone where the backup works, can tell me if you have a ".crypt" file or not?
seems that "my" WA cant read its own encrypted DBs -.-
it worked when transforming the crypted DB into an unencrypted DB
Hi
I've just encountered this problem too, lost all my messages of over 2 years! I too have ".crypt" file but it doesn't ask me to restore it. Did you find a solution? Please say yes!!
thanks

more or less....
WA still didnt accept its own files but try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1583021
worked well and i have all my conversations back.
hope i could help
Saw that, and yes it works well. Obviously better than nothing, but not the same as getting them back in the phone. I've opened a support issue with WhatsApp, maybe a future release can resolve this.
cheers!
if you encrypt them with the tool, WA will restore them and you will have youre stuff "back in the phone"
if you get a response from official wa, please share =)

You mean, if you decrypt the database file with the tool Whatsapp Xtract. Yes, that should work.
[TOOL] Whatsapp Backup Messages Extractor
Decrypt, then copy the decrypted file (msgstore.db instead of msgstore.db.crypt) onto the folder /sdcard/WhatsApp/Databases, make sure it's the only database file inside that folder and then newly install WhatsApp. It should ask you to import the backup during the process of installation.
Thanks you ztedd, that makes more sense! Are you saying that only decrypted files get restored? That's not the impression the WhatsApp website gave me.

Whatsapp now detects a Backup, but when i hit "yes" to restore it, not a single chat gets restored. :/ Any suggestions?
I copied the file msgstore.db.html from the tool to the database directory and the delete the ".html" ending.
*WORKS: Copy the msgstore.plain.db file an rename it to msgstore.db, then it works!
Thanks!
Hi
i too have experienced lots of problems restoring my old chat from my old phone. I followed your advice below and it worked.
However, I have now lost my new messages that were on my new phone. How do I restore them too?
Please help...I'm totally clueless....Thanks

@topic: ztedd postet in his thread a solution to merge 2 databases. i havent tried it myself yet (was posted a few days ago. (well. earlierer, but it had some...problems)) but it looks promising
Apologises if I am incorrectly posting on this forum but as my username suggests I am totally clueless to how this process works.
I do not not how to ask a question in the thread Q&A as suggested and by replying did not realise that I had posted a new thread.
Please forgive me.
Please advice how to correctly use this forum and how do I merge databases on two samsung phones or generally, after having successfully restored my old chat history following your advice, how do I add/merge the new chat on my new phone to the old chat that now appears to have replaced my new chat history.
Thanking you in advance for your help.

If your phone is STOCK or STOCK rooted and you want a fast and sure fix then
simply copy the contents of your internal sdcard to a new folder on the desktop of
your computer and use a backup app to backup your apps to external sdcard.
If you don't have an external sdcard then copy all files and folders internal sdcard
and copy the backed up apps to a new folder in your computer's desktop.
Then go into the settings>accounts in the phone and perform "factory data reset".
Doing that will solve the audio problem you have been experiencing.
If you are using a custom rom then I would suggest to ODIN flash the stock firmware
but make sure that the firmware is the correct onf for your specific phone's model number.
Best place to get the correct stock firmware is from SamMobile.com.
Good luck!
Hey thank you. Ive never done any restoring before. I just installed Helium on my desktop. Is there any way for me to be 100 percent certain that all my info will save properly? Im scared that I will lose all data trying to do a backup. Also, will doing a system restore fix the keyboard issue I am having? Heres what it does; word suggestions in the top area of keyboard will contain the correct word, but also contains the word before the correct word. Not sure if that makes any sense.

If you go into settings>accounts - and have it backup it will back up all your contacts,
mms, data, and other personal information and send it to your google/gmail account.
Then if and when you need to restore those items you can go into settings> accounts and
click on "Restore Data" after you are sure that you have a good wifi or data connection.
As far as music/videos/documents/photos you will not loose anything either since the
process of flashing a rom does not touch any of those files or folders in your phone.
It's a lot easier to flash a clean stock rom than it is hunting down trying to find a fix for
all these issues you are having with your phone.
When you do backups using apps from the playstore you will have no problem restoring
them after you re-download and install them again from the playstore.
Just be sure that the destination of any backups you make using playstore apps is setup
to be on your external sdcard or copy them to your computers desktop into a new folder.
These backups above are only for games and applications which you installed from the
playstore and has nothing to do with the personal DATA backups using your gmail account.
Good luck!
Don't forget that it takes less time to click the "THANKS" button than it takes to type "thank you"
Hey thank you for the help. Oh, btw, im running stock. I would hit the "like" button, but um, shoot, I cant find it. I know, I must be an idiot. Lol
