What's the difference between cm and among RA. Do i need to update my cm to among RA. Or i am ok.

You need CWM recovery to use rom manager. CWM 3.0+ doesn't allow you to flash amend scripted packages which a lot of people still use. Amon ra lets you backup particular partitions of your choice, and if you use the modified amon ra, you can also restore CWM backups and other features. Your choice really.

Yep, I would recommend the latest modified version of amon ra. No troubles here

Just downloaded the attached file to the root of your SD card, rename it to "PC36IMG", then boot into the bootloader by powering down, then powering back up, only this time holding the power button and the volume down button. It should recognize the file and install the recovery.

Simply boot into your recovery partition and check. If you're on a stock ROM, download the app "Quick Boot". Once inside the app, simply tap "Recovery" and your Evo should boot into your recovery.
All the other custom ROMs I know of have a "reboot into recovery" feature. Simply long-press the power button, then select reboot. A dialogue box should appear; Tap "Recovery" and reboot.

The instructions in Amon_RA's thread are pretty detailed... A little searching will solve your problems...
Download ROM Manager off of the Android Market. It has an option to install Amon Ra.

Installation clockwork recovery and want to go back to RA recovery

I installed rom manager and clockwork recovery and want to good back to RA recovery but I do not know how.. can anyone help? Thanks

Open up ROM Manager, scroll down and you will see an option "Flash Alternate Recovery." Select this option and Amon's Recovery is the only option available since it is the only other recovery image out there.
It will flash RA right from ROM Manager and you are all done.
ROM manager doesn't give me that option. It is grayed out and will not let me select it.

You may need the paid version to be able to do that. Pay the few dollars that it costs to get the license. ROM Manager will be your new best friend now. There are many roms and customizations for the Evo you can try, and it is well worth the $4-$5 it costs to get the paid version and be able to use all the features.

You can't download ROMs through ROM Manager unless clockwork is your recovery method.
you don't need the paid version of rom manager, click flash clock work, after that you should be able to flash amon ra via the alternate recovery option
Thank you very much for your help guys. Which is the better method of recovery, RA or Clockwork? I have used RA since I rooted my phone.

Amon RA has a better Wipe Option making it better IMO...

The OP stated that it appears grayed out on his phone. I got the paid version immediately, so I suggested this as a possible reason.

True.....clockwork is known to not properly wipe the dalvik cache. You can tell by how much longer Amon's recovery takes to wipe this as opposed to clockwork that they are indeed doing something different.
The advantage to clockwork recovery is the ability to navigate through any folder on your SD card. With Amon, you need to have the file placed on directly on the root of your SD card for the recovery to see it.

Clockwork or Armon?

I'm curious, who uses which and why?
*Amon. Oops
I personally use cw...but many people on this forum swear by amon bc they say it is more reliable... some roms require you to use amon to flash. ...I personally have never had issues flashing with cw...
Bottom line is that we have two good choices if you are a flashaholic

Amon-ra is my preference 0 errors. Clockwork is nice also, has its own app but people have reported a couple of flashing errors. Both are awesome all I can say is try out both see which one you like better.

I was kind of tempted with the features and GUI of Clockwork, but after reading a bit on here, it seems like Amon Ra is the reliable way to go. I'm new to Evo rooting and roms, but when I had my Nexus One, AR was absolutely the way to go. Rock freakin' solid.
Currently if you have a evo with hboot 2.02 or 2.10 the only recovery u can use after rooting is amon ra...just a fyi

Amon by far.
Amon_RA, since CWM doesn't work properly on newer hboots, and because CWM does not properly wipe partitions when you tell it to. Simple as that.

Im currently using CW...This is why I definitely want to use Ra... however when I flash it using rom manager, and then try any functions in Ra recovery is says "no zip files installed ".. any possible solutions??
I use Amon_ra because it backs up the wimax rsa keys. That's the only advantage I saw

The solution is to place your flashable .zip files to the base sdcard directory and not within a subfolder.

Like the person above said, Amon_RA 1.8.0 can only use ZIP files which are on the root of your SD card, not in a sub-folder. Version 2.0 (which Amon_RA has suggested will be coming soon-ish) will have folder navigation.
Amon Ra currently but I have used both. The reasons are clear it backs the RSA keys, and does clear when wiping.
Btw try #grep RSA /sdcard/nandroid/HT065HL*/(name of nandroid file)/wimax.img
You'll see where your RSA keys are stored in your nandroid.
I go back and forth.... I use amon ra for nandroid backups and serious flashes like radio pri nv all that jazz. I like clockwork for ease sometimes. I don't use app2sd. I use titanium to wipe davlik and repeat in either cw or amon ra just to be sure... They both have their good points. and bad

Can't flash other ROM's after CWM issue

I was affected by CWM when I upgraded to 3.0. I can't flash any ROM's except for Fresh's. I've tried going through Rom Manager, manually downloading ROM, AR recovery. The ROM install will complete but when I reboot I'm still in Fresh's. I don't know what it did to my phone. I've even deleted the rom.zip and downloaded it again thinking it was a bad download. From here on out I'm permanently switching to AR so if you guys can let me know what I should do.
By the way I list my backups. I did have a backup of UD but it won't restore in CWM. Will it work if I copy the backup from CWM and move it to the Amon Ra folder? I don't want to try it and possible make things worse.

Yes I need help on this, too. I wanted to go to Myn's rom and can not at all. And I believe I read backups are not interchangeable between CW and RA.
You need to restore amon_ra 1.8 as your recovery and then reflash your rom. Cwm backups are not compatible with ra.

I tried that. I re-downloaded the ROM's, placed on the root, flashed in Amon Ra and it completes but doesn't boot up. Out hangs at the white htc evo splash screen. The CWM broke my phone.
I'm trying to avoid flashing the stock RUU and rooting again. I'm guessing there may be a file thats conflicting. By the way I deleted ROM manager permanently.

you can do this using cwm(rom manager) , if its greyed out then dl the latest amon_ra1.8 and put on the root of your sd card, then try again thru cwm. thats what worked for me.
But yea the latest cwm update isnt something to get excited about. doesnt play nice on some evo's.
stick with good ole faithful Amon_Ra and start flashing from recovery, not from some app. its always stable and not to mention wipes correctly/easily
Any tips? I need to get my AOSP rom and Sense ROM loaded.

Only thing I'm worried about, won't I lose my nandroid backups? What if something goes wrong in this flash?
Backup again.

Recovery Problems with "RA" as Default

My problem is this, I had CMW as my default recovery and decided to install RA as my alternate recovery. Now RA is my default and I can't seem to get back CMW. I tried deleting CMW and then download it again from Market, but it always comes back as RA being my default recovery. So what am I doing wrong?
You could try deleting the recovery and reflash.

I do not know why you want to use Clockwork as Amon Ra is better, but search in development for ClockworkMod. Download as PC36IMG.zip and put it on the root of your SD card. Boot into bootloader, accept update, and you will have Clockwork recovery again

Having similar problem. Always used RA, but my girl just got a NS4G and installed CWM. Would like to now install CWM on the Evo, just in case I have to talk her through problems, will have better knowledge of what she us looking at.
Installed Rom Manager and hit the flash recovery option. The phone does its thing and Rom Manager says current recovery is Clockwork. Upon rebooting into recovery still have RA 2.3.
Any ideas how to get CWM to stick. Does anybody have a good pc.img?

do as mentioned above, download the recovery, rename it to pc36img.zip, go into bootloader, accept the update, and you'll have clockworkmod
