is it possiablr to overclock xperia play with locked bootloaders yet

It will never be possible to flash custom kernels on fastboot locked devices.

Yes, making kernel modules, and loading the init.

True but you can still overclock, you just need to compile overclock module and have it loaded.

I'd assume using something like Sysctl Config
-although not Sysctl Config because it's not in sysctl.conf
but someone could thematically achieve locked bootloader over clocking but frankly it would be easier to achieve kernel flashing
question what about something like flashtool
http://androxyde.github.com/Flashtool/ (saw in other threads)
granted I am n00b too

Obviously, but if devs were intrested in making O/C modules for the stock kernel. Someone would of already done it for B/L locked devices. All a device would need is root for that

[Q] Best rom + kernel?

What's currently the best combination, stable, fast, no bugs?
And is there a good bug free ics rom out there? I'd like to give it a try.
Thanks in advance
I unlocked bootloader today, and I'm on .58 fw version, 2.3.4
I have: Stock Rom 2.3.4 + DoomLoRD's Kernel.
Full touchpad support and fast without bloatware.

Any idea what changes were from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4?
Advanced Stock and Darkforest ICS.
Unless you want to game correctly/heavily.
Then id suggest staying where you are.

That's basically my predicament. I really enjoyed ICS and pax's modified kernel, but you can't play PSXperia games on ICS. Back to stock ROM I went...
on my opinion , use 2.3.4 + sony's default kernel + some tweaks
as i experienced (( i've checked all kernels )) , all kernels have some bugs , just sony'y default kernel is #1 .
but you can try , if you want

And for best ROMs, I prefer CM9 by FXP. Touchpads work like they should (at least in Minecraft).

Search around the development forum, I think there's a tread with the links for all versions of stock ftfs

I second this.
I use JokaWild v2.5 w/ v13 Doomkernel. It is super fast.

Custom ROMs

Is it a requirement of Custom ROMs to flash a Custom Kernal as well or can the stock Kernal be used. I'm using the latest Baseband that was supplied with the ICS update?

Yes, whenever you change ROM you should change the kernel as well. In the thread from the ROM it says which kernel you should use. For example for CyanogenMod you need to use the kernel provided. But there are also kernels which can be used for more than 1 ROM, like DoomKernel

The last time I flashed a custom ROM was on my X8 and it was stock all the way with the Kernal.
Does the boot loader need to be unlocked to flash a new Kernal?

OK. I think I'll stick as I am for now as I really want a vanilla ICS ROM with all hardware working, Software buttons and the hardware back, home & menu button disabled in Android but active in CWM.

It is not that hard to unlock the bootloader. It is way easier than it looks. And it gives you much more options to customize etc. It really recommend to unlock your bootloader

Could you explain how to unlock bootloader on arc lt15i
When I go into service menu it says bootloader unlock allowed: no
I know jinx13 does it for a fee but are there any other methods?
Thus would be really helpful as I want to use custom Roms but can't find any that work with stock firmware
Cheers
I don't know it when it says bootloader unlock allowed: no

Please help looking for a ROM!

OK so I got my Xperia PLAY, and I'm looking for a plain debloated, deodexed, clean stock ROM. Does such a ROM exist? Also, do I need an unlocked bootloader? How can I tell if my phones bootloader is locked or unlocked? Thanks!

Hmm.... You can debloat the default/stock rom
Thinking of ODEX then I've no clue.
Unless you're looking for a Rom that is already existent so what are you looking for?
Performance?
Stability?
Lightness?

Overall I want a really fast and stable ROM that is good for gaming. I want it to look like stock though. Also, what does supercharged mean? Would that make it faster? I plan on overclocking, too.
Would it just be possible to root and overclock stock 2.3.4?

You cant overclock with a stock kernel 2.3.4. Since you dont know if your bootloader is unlocked it is obviously locked. You need a custom kernel that allows overclocking and this discussion is ended since you are stuck with what you have.

Nope. If you flash a custom kernel with your bootloader locked you will have a soft brick device.

OK. I've been looking up ways to unlock the bootloader on the R800X. I have dialed the number so you can get to the menu where you can check if you can unlock your bootloader, but there is nothing that says "rooting status" in the information part. My phone IS rooted. Does this mean I can't unlock the bootloader? I'm on Verizon.
Hey buddy, I have the same R800X as you on Verizon. We can't unlock bootloader for free unfortunately. I paid 20 to get mine unlocked. It was worth it for sure.
I am running debloated, supercharged stock 2.3.3 rom, and it works great.
I just got my Xperia Play last Friday

I got my phone unlocked through here: http://unlock-bootloader.com/
I was a little nervous at first because you have to pay first and then he unlocks your phone. But I went ahead and did it and I would recommend it fully. It took about 10 minutes from beginning to end.
I am using Doomkernel. Going from the stock kernel and Doomkernel is like night and day. The phone is much more responsive and stable.
But the true speed gain is when you supercharge the rom. My friend, I have never seen speed gains so obvious.
Combine this with an overclock, and I will promise you will be impressed. The stock cpu speed is 1ghz, but I have just oc'ed to 1.2ghz. My max stable cpu speed is 1.9ghz, but I found 1.2ghz is a perfect speed for my needs

I have a locked bootloader and Gin2Jellybean. It is fairly debloated and everything especially if you get the lite version. And then you can always uninstall any more with root uninstaller from the market

Locked bootloader + custom rom = possible overclock?

I have a 800at and my bootloader is locked. In all honesty, I don't really mind it being locked, but wouldnt mind it being unlocked either. Regardless, if I install a custom ROM that can be installed on a locked bootloader after I root, that states the CPU is overclocked, is it really overclocked without the use of a kernel that enables overclocking? Or would you need to install a custom kernel that allows the option to overclock?
