R800a, R800at, R800i, R800x, Z1i ???
PLUS, are there any others I'm missing here??
thanks
r800a is the version sold by most countries in America.
r800at is the version sold by AT&T (carrier in USA).
r800x is the version sold by Verizon (carrier in USA).
r800i is the international version and is sold in the rest of the world.
I don't know about Z1i, never heard of it.
ok, thanks
Z1i sounds like an xperia arc model not a play.

Thanks for the quick reply to my noob question...
I will most likely use this phone on Simple Mobile which uses tmobiles towers so the obvious choice would be the tmobile version, but would i benefit in any way by getting the unlocked version? Who is the unlocked version branded by? I dont want to make a mistake because a month ago i was about to get the unlocked iphone for my girl and run it on simple mobile until thankfully you guys tipped me off that the unlocked iphone was actually an at&t branded phone and will not get 4g speeds on simple mobile.
So, who is the unlocked version of the gs3 branded by? And which one should i get, tmobile gs3 or unlocked gs3?
International Sgs3 is branded by Samsung. I believe you would not get 4g, because of the different frequencies. The other option would be the Korean version of the sgs3. I do not know if that works though.
T-mobile is gonna be updating their 1900mhz which means the international s3 will get 3g data and iPhone users same...

I am considering getting a Xperia PLAY 4 AT&T for when my contract ends with Verizon. I aw the new T-Mobile plans that were announced on July 1st and am considering going with them, as they have a new plan where if you bring in your own phone their services are really cheap. Anyway, my question is if anyone here is using the AT&T PLAY on T-Mobile in the US if they can tell me how good is the HSPA+ with T-Mobile? I thought I have seen somewhere that TMo and AT&T share the same frequency for HSPA+. Can anyone give me there feedback on this? Thank you in advance.

Edit : I read your post wrong at first. I know my r800a is carrier unlocked and will work for both att and tmobile. But I havent used it yet, If I do though, I will be sure and let you know!
Hate to revive an old thread but wanted to let everyone know I switched from VZ to Tmobile last night, and I am getting 7mbps down 2mbps up on my unlocked AT&T xperia play.
All in all I am very happy.
Kinda off topic but whats the model for the play 4g as I looked it up and could not find it...wouldn't be different then the r800a/i/x/at or is the at the 4g version?

Its AT&T's xperia play (R800at) they call it the xperia play 4G because it has the HSPA+ frequency. So not really 4G, more like 3.5G.

The "r800A" and "AT" are pretty much identical. I think the "A" was just sold outside the US. You could get an R800A and flash the right TA file to it and use it on AT&T.

I have an R800a on t-mobile but the hspa is super slow for me, has the big H symbol but its exactly what I expect running edge, something must be wrong, is 120-150 kbps on hspa normal?
Hi people recently I trade my Motorola razr with a galaxy nexus, the guy who trade it was using the phone with movistar, in my country it operates on 850 mhz. I use other carrier claro also working on 850 mhz. But with the Sims of that operator (claro) I got no service at all. Maybe it is a old thread but don't know how to search for it and honestly the galaxy nexus has a big forum.
Hope you can help me because I got a plan on claro and don't want to change operators.

It look like you will have to do some flashing, though I am not in your area so I don't know which specific image or radio you need.
thanks for the answers, i was using my xda tablet app and its harder to search, well i search a little, my problem maybe is because the radio installed, i got xx radio which is european, supports 850 but someway it can be causing the probelm with other sim. I find some radios for US and Canada but they are listed for ICS, it can work with jelly bean?

Yes. You should be able to use almost any radio.
And by the way, XX radios are not only for Europe. U.S. devices ship with XX radios as well.

It's probably not related to the firmware on your phone. Did you try it out with a SIM of a different provider?

Then it certainly has nothing to do with your device or the firmware. It is either related to your SIM or to your carrier account or a network issue.

Any suggestion to solve this problem? i speak with costumer service of my operator and they told me that theres no support for devices not sold by them, so im stuck with this phone with no signal at all.
I returned the phone, really like it but for me is not working.
Tell me please, is there a way to use my phone LT 28i in Russian networks? I will clarify the issue. Setting up the modem for LTE through software or does it depend on the model of the modem? Can I get the software from any model that works in Russian networks for use in Ion?
Ok, I will ask anyway. From what device I can copy the files that are responsible for its LTE modem on Ion? As these files are named and where they are?
Surely no one is trying to do?
I think the LT28i doesn't have a LTE modem. Only the AT&T model.

Incorrect the LT28i has LTE built in and the firmware supports it out of the box. It all depends on what LTE network bands your carrier uses and whether the phone supports those bands.

Thank you for your response. But my question remains. Which model can I get drivers for LTE in Russia, where they are and how to call them? Can I install the drivers from another phone model? Suppose LG? Or from the Sony Xperia Z? Can anyone tell where the files are and how to get it from the firmware Z? Or put on sharing with installation instructions.

There aren't drivers. The phone only supports ccertain frequencies. Look at the specs for it then look at what frequencies your carrier uses.

In my opinion, you're wrong. Now I will wait for the new XTX for Ion. It will be based, as I understand, the firmware on the Z. And Z supports LTE in Russia. We'll see. )))

It isn't software only. If it was like that, we'd have many and many phones with worldwide LTE. The hardware also needs to support the frequencies. It's like saying that a change of drivers would make a Bluetooth device work as a radio, which uses other frequencies.
