So what's the off-contract price for Verizon? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Probably $649

I was wondering the same thing. It's the last bit of information I hadn't heard. I'm assuming $649.99 but want to be sure.

why $649?
when I got the Rezound for $219(contract) I still had to pay the sales tax of the regular retail price, which was $799

The Radio Shack leak from a few days ago said that their off contract was $799.

I thought it was $749.99.

I guess I will know tonight a 1AM when I check online.

Radioshack and Best Buy charge more for off-contract prices because they make more money by locking you into contracts. Verizon offers lower off-contract prices than Best Buy and Radioshack. I promise

You bought it at Best Buy didn't you?

the verizon wireless in store or web price is $649

Not sure why anyone would want to buy a CDMA phone off contract from the carrier unless there was literally no other way to get it.
At least when you buy the GSM version unlocked you get something worth while...

Yes. Carrier resellers add another contract and ETF associated to your phone/account when you sign a new carrier contract for a subsidized phone through them. That's why the unsub prices are higher.

yeah i thought about buying it off contract because i will leave vzw once sprint lte is up but still that doesn't make any sense. $650 off contract or on contract $300 plus a $300 cancellation fee saves me $50 in the long run.

People buy CDMA devices off contract from the carrier because they can't renew their contract at that point in time..

Not so sure what that implies, other than switching to an inferior company?
I for one am very happy with VZW 4G as well as their reliable 3G with the backhauls to actually move the traffic.
Voice quality over their 1x is superb compared to the cdma carriers imho.
VZW press release today confirms 649 off contract. I'm in an old alltel area, too so maybe 549
----
The other issue is that this is a Samsung phone. PLENTY of popping noises on their radios across the board, so I'll let everyone beta test, or maybe just try the demo model for a while tomorrow before considering.

It comes down to what you're willing to settle for. I'd rather buy a 32gb unlocked for $649. Along with many others, Verizon is doing the same deal. Presumably you can move between AT&T and VZW but they'll probably still nail you for fees like activation.

Just got out the door a verizon for $695 ($649 plus 7% state sales tax).
As for people that think it's cheaper to go with a New contract for the phone (pay $300) and then immediately cancel the contract (pay the $300 early termination fee) you forget that they are probably going to charge you for one month at least on that contract.

Nope. I chatted with a rep earlier about it. No information posted online for them, and her scripts didn't say anything. She checked with a supervisor who confirmed that AT&T hadn't told them what the off-contract price would be.
I'm expecting $649-$699 for the 16GB version, but am prepared to go as high as $799 based on international prices for off-contract phones.
The rumor for tmo is $700, I figure att would be similar.

Kinda hard to be "stoked" at the price but that's what I just paid for my T-mobile variant... Although it's not as bad as what a lot of people were paying for International N7100's but they just sold for $589.00 on Ebay so if I didn't have to pay tax I would have been a tad more "stoked"... Only on XDA will you hear someone say they were stoked about that price! LOL I am just messin with ya though cause I am glad it wasn't the $699.00 that I thought it was going to be...

I tried to order one at no-commitment price, but even when you choose that option rather than 1-year or 2-year contract, it will not let you buy without choosing a plan. I cannot figure out how to buy just the phone from AT&T.

If you've already got an account, log in and run it as an upgrade. Full retail is the only price you'll see, but it will stick to your current data and voice plans without prompting you to select a new one.
The rep I spoke to initially said to order the phone with a plan, then cancel that plan as soon as the phone arrives. Not sure I like that idea, as touching your plan at all could potentially take you off of unlimited data.
The Galaxy Not original was $849.99 So i would safely guess close to there.
I pre-ordered the Sammy G-note II from AT&T the first day available on the 25th and I paid $649 plus the tax of $39 and it is said that I will be getting it Nov. 6th to Nov. 9th.

You can usually get a early upgrade from AT&T if you call or stop in the store it's usually the price of the phone plus 250.00 would make the phone 549.99 and all you have to do is extend your current contract to get it.
Does not matter if you have no contract but if you do you should be good does not hurt to ask
Anyone know a good insurance to get with the phone. I kind of want to preorder from ATT now so i can get the phone at launch. But best buy's $10/mo insurance seems to be an unbeatable deal and i may end up waiting for them. I had a nightmare damage experience with my previous phone so i dont wanna get the note 2 without insurance
Seems like atts $200 deductible makes their insurance garbage.

Galaxy Note II Off Contract Availability

Guys, where are you getting your Note off contract? Hopefully this thread can help members in the same situation get a galaxy note 2.
I have a pre-paid plan and do not want to be locked into any 2 year plan.
So far, it seem like only T-mobile stores are selling them for $650 + tax and that's if they want to sell it to you. What about Bestbuy? Walmart? etc.

I am currently switching from Sprint so I'm not a customer. My local T-mobile store sold it to me off contract but I had to buy a $10 pre paid card to get it activated at the store. I had already ordered a micro sim activation kit online and was planning on activating it myself.
I think it's on a store by store basis.

Yeah I'm wondering if there's any other places that I can buy the phone off contract and maybe even avoid sales tax (via online purchase). Everyone is paying about 700 for theirs.
I've visit one store yesterday but all they had were Gray only. I believe the white one are rare at the moment. They were saving it for new customers or those that are extending their contract.

Not sure how that's cheaper... from a T-Mobile store it costs $649.99 off-contract, it's $703 off wirefly. Even with California tax (8.75%) that makes the Note II $707 from the T-Mobile store. Not to mention that wirefly charges tax to CA, so... for me the wirefly price would be $764...
But yeah, my store wouldnt sell to me, as they were saving it for new and upgrading customers.
Full Purchase Price at T-Mobile Store
I purchased my GN2 yesterday at my local T-Mobile store in the white color 16GB configuration for $683.00 after taxes. I have a SanDisk Ultra 64GB microSDHX memory card class 10 for $50 from Amazon inside it....The only problem I had was when I wanted to purchase it the sales rep at the T-Mobile store wanted me to use my upgrade and I said because I buy my phones outright and he had this shocked look on his and I was like OK....But I did purchase it with no problem though and it took all of ten minutes for me....
Got mine at the T-Mo store last night. Was just over $700 with tax. Wirefly doesn't charge tax in my state but they want I think $729 off contract for it so it was still cheaper to get it from T-Mobile and note have to wait.
Called and visited several Tmo stores. All stores had stock. Most stores had both white and grey in stock. Most said their manager would not let them sell at retail while it was "new". From the way the conversations went, I think I could have talked most stores into selling me one.
One store agreed to let me purchase a white one but not a grey one.
None of the stores seemed to be running out of stock.
$649+tax.

Yeah, it's up to the managers and the two near me are greedier than most i guess.
I woke up at 10:00 in the morning and called my closest store and they had 3 Titanium Grey in stock for New activations or upgrades so I thought I would be out of luck but I went in anyways and I "upgraded" my pre-paid account to the Note 2. That is funny as hell cause that really should not be considered an upgrade as I already have to pay full price for my phones... I took em to school on that one! LOL

Not only commissions but if they run out and someone wants to come in to start a new plan then they also lose a new subscriber. I wish I could afford it at $700 but thats like paying $30/mo for two years just for the phone.

The funny thing is that some people can afford to pay a monthly bill of $100.00/month or more but if you buy your phone outright you cut that monthly fee in half and that is what pays for your phone plus more... No contract for me! :good:

True that but personally I think at this point I'd rather pay for less-secondhand Note2 (free overnight delivery until Dec 20th during business days in my link above I was told although website simply says Free Shipping so it likely depends on US location)..
If it was an established business or someone I knew with less risk of aggravation, I'd consider it more.

Can I purchase the Tmobile Galaxy Note 2 without contract and unlock it and get LTE with AT&T?
Also, are there problems if you buy the note 2 from Tmobile without any sevice from tmobile?
I want the tmobile version mainly because of its pentaband capability. true world phone, though LTE disabled

nothing is ever future proof in every way, but the note 2 will be able to use LTE when Tmobile rolls it out, so it's future proof in that sense. I'm not sure but I don't think it would work on AT&T LTE though- AT&T I believe uses different frequencies, so the LTE radios might not recognize each other. The note 2 has pentaband so you can at least get 3G and HSPA+ all over the world, but LTE varies a lot by carrier and country.
as for unlocking the phone, the note 2 can be unlocked manually for free- there's another thread in this forum to show you how. should be on the 1st page.
Thanks, silly question, but do you think it is worth buying the Note 2 from T-Mobile for the extra price, or is the International Version a smarter move? How would you weigh the pros and cons.

As I understand it, the T-Mobile LTE hardware has been disabled but is expected to be enabled via OTA update in 2013 where I've read people expect it to work on AT&T's LTE. I haven't heard anyone being able to enable it yet http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34474595&postcount=63 so it hasn't been confirmed to my knowledge. In my still limited neighborhood speed tests of all major carriers T-Mobile surprisingly offered the best consistent speeds indoors by far & outdoors was not significantly different than Verizon LTE in terms of network experience (although Verizon did peak higher outdoors was surprisingly weak indoors).
If you pay full price for the Note2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34899105&postcount=2 like I will likely do without service, then activate online & can go prepaid $30/mo plan or according to salesperson I spoke to yesterday at (877) 353-3614 can even try the service out with a pay by the day plan but since I've already done preliminary speed tests on a friends S3 I will likely just try the $30 mo plan. I do have an order # for the grey but haven't provided my payment info yet since it wouldn't ship until Monday at earliest anyway & I'm trying to get more answers on multi-view that I want..
Not sure anything is really futureproof in terms of the best experience but is the best ATM IMO.

If you are not a TMobile Customer, do you still get the warranty honored by Samsung?
I'm shocked that people on XDA (who tend to be a bit more discerning than the average consumer) are still buying phones on contract. I have a paypal if you really don't need your money. Send it to me. I bought my Note 2 on CL for $450 almost a month ago. New in box. That kind of deal will be rare but you will definitely save at least a hundred bucks on CL. Only drawback is that squaretrade doesn't work with CL purchases.

I was told yes it carries the 1 yr warranty yesterday when I spoke to T-Mobile web at (877) 353-3614. I was told I had 30 days for a full refund on the Note2 (although would have to mail it to them in Tennessee at my expense if returned-likely less than <$10, there would be no restocking fee) but no refund on the prepaid service itself hence the day rates I mentioned above. I didn't get into the warranty procedure yet so if you or anyone knows or finds out post back because it's worth knowing before dropping that cash. I will call my local T-Mobile store to see if I can score a comparable deal & ask about their restocking fees & warranty service before deciding..
It might be worthwhile for you to confirm all this with T-Mobile web at (877) 353-3614 & post back. -Thnx

For some use cases (that honestly I'm not entirely familiar with besides possibly reducing upfront investment) contracts may prove worthwhile if they better suit your use case but I agree that T-Mobile offers such flexibility with their plans that it's another reason I'm considering them now that the Note2 is available on all major carriers (though my speed tests were also what brought them to my attention).
When I checked CL today I could save only ~$68 including the nearly $48 in tax which doesn't seem worth it to me personally..glad it worked out for you though Appreciate you pointed out the squaretrade drawback -Thnx

Not running into getting blacklisted is sometimes worth full retail, just saying specially now that att and tmobile will merge their blacklist database

Well, the OP says he wants to avoid a 2 year lockin with a carrier, which I agree with, considering the savings ($500-$1400 depending on the carrier and plan and that's AFTER accounting for the phone subsidy).
In Atlanta GN2s go for $575 which gives you greater than $100 savings on the device. And again, $50/month on SM vs $80/month on TMO is for me a no-brainer if one can come up with the phone. Carriers are a rip-off.

Yes, it's a manufacturer warranty.

As I mentioned earlier in the thread I plan to try T-Mobile's $30/mo plan so I hear you.
I did just call my local T-Mobile store & it's $50+tax more than http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34899105&postcount=2 & 14 day return policy instead of 30 day grace period online & has a $50 restocking fee vs zero online I was told (though have to pay for return shipping likely <$10).
I did call T-Mobile web at (877) 353-3614 to follow-up on how the 1 yr warranty is serviced. I was told instead of taking it into a T-Mobile store you, you'd have to mail it to a US service center (at your expense but you'd be paying for gas-car expenses likely if taking it to a store) after troubleshooting yielded a Return Authorization. If you couldn't wait for a new one to be mailed to you after they received the returned one, then they do offer a replacement at a replacement fee of $50 where you would have to mail the old one to the center within 7 days (or likely incur the full cost of replacement so I'd mail the returned one with some insurance should it get lost).. They told me Samsung service would also be an option so I assume if you did not have T-Mobile service that would still be an option for you & if you want the T-Mobile service help could add a month or possibly even day plan..
Still sounds reasonable to me & where I'm leaning now. If T-Mobile had the official multi-view I'd be more certain that I'd provide my payment info on the order..-Personally I feel better about that option than Graigslist ATM.

Buy now or later?

I know I'm getting the Note 3, it is just a matter of when. I dont necessarily want to pay $704 for a phone, but I just sold my Note 2 and am running on a basic phone (not fun). On one hand, i really would like a new phone to ensure quality but I also am okay with waiting a few weeks. Do you guys think I should just bite the bullet and buy it or wait a few weeks and pick up one from ebay, craigslist or swappa? Will prices even be that different after a few weeks? Thanks
I wouldn't buy from Craigslist or swappa. Too much risk. They work for one month, person stops making payments, then bad imei. If you do buy, go through reputable sources.

Any suggestions on a good place to buy?
$0 with t-mobile right now... I would say get it now.

Because of the EIP, I would say T-Mobile (or any authorized stores) would be the safest place to buy. The used market is too risky now because of the EIP T-Mobile started.
But, I do have one suggestion if you do buy it off of Craigslist. Meet at a T-Mobile store and if it's possible, have a T-Mobile rep confirm that the specific phone has been paid off. If the seller is legit, then he would have no problems doing this for you.

Thanks guys, I think the best course of action would be to buy outright from T-Mobile, this way I know what exactly what I'm getting. I just cant get over that $704 price tag! I guess thats the price you pay for a quality phone. Appreciate the help!

I ordered mine today for zero down and added Jump to my plan. If I decided to trade it in in 6 months, I'll be out a lot less money that if I put $199 down. Sweet deal.

It's unlocked which is great. The ones at the store will be Sim locked to TMobile. Don't now if there are any other differences. Negri has been around a long time and I would consider them a reputable company. They used to advertize on TWIT

Sign up for Jump and you can give back your phone and get another new one in 6 months. Any payments remaining on your old one go away and you start over with payments on the new one. That's why the zero down is a great deal. You won't be out the $199 down payment that some people paid if they pre-ordered before today. I believe Jump is only available on the Simple Choice plans. Not available if you're on Monthly 4G I think. It costs $10 per month and doubles as phone insurance also.

Sprint LG G2 Pre order page up

For Sprint customers, the LG G2 page is up and it is $199 on 2 year contract. It is available both in black and white.

Puts me even more on the fence. Price is right ($99 if I add a new line) but I'm now torn on maybe going to T-Mobile, especially with that new global roaming.

Sigh. Why such a long wait?
So they will essentially be 2 MONTHS behind the other carriers. Probably needed more time to install their super special bloatware.

FYI for those upgrading instead of starting new with Sprint, pre-orders are cheaper on Best Buy's site.
Sprint price - $199.99
Best Buy price - $99.99

Not for existing customers. It showed as $199.99 for me when pricing the upgrade. If i'm doing something wrong, please let me know.

Another Best Buy incentive - $50 gift card via email if you pre-order with Best Buy. Decision made, order placed!
Edit - well, order almost placed. Not going through on the Best Buy website for some reason, just getting a generic "There was an issue while processing your order." message. On phone with them.

What is the difference between ordering the phone at Best buy vs Sprint corporate? Will I still get the same service and support with sprint if I upgrade with Best Buy? I've always wondered this and bought my phones directly from sprint. With the current pricing at Sprint, seems like BB is definitely the better way to go.
I am on a 1600 minute, unlimited texting and data family plan with TEP insurance if it matters.
If you buy from third parties like best buy, sprint will charge u 50 bucks on your account (according to a sprint rep)

I have upgraded through Best Buy and Amazon in the past. Your plan with Sprint does not change. Your Sprint Service/Support does not change. You have the ability to add TEP to your new phone (you may have to call Sprint to do this, but you have a window of time - i think 30 days - to add TEP to any phone).
The only thing I would be wary of is if you are in a grandfathered plan like SERO. Then you need to deal with Sprint directly.
I have never been charged extra by Sprint by going with a 3rd-party. The only possible extra fee (on top of the phone cost) is a $36 activation fee that Sprint charges, as well. Even if Sprint didn't charge this, Best Buy still comes out ahead.
I wonder what the chances are Best Buy will ship earlier or later than Sprint?

As an FYI, I was not able to get the order to process on BestBuy.com, or through the 1-800-BestBuy. I had to go in-store to preorder. And even then, I had to work it out with the mobile manager to get the $50 gift card offer.
Now, that pre-order doesn't commit me to the device, as I haven't actually paid for it yet. So if anyone has any success with BestBuy.com, please let me know!!

And I can confirm you'll have to pay a $36 activation fee with Sprint (not payed with the Best Buy order).

At what point did your order processing fail? Maybe a problem with the "Submit to Sprint" part, or something with your browser? or just bad luck lol
