[Q] 32GB Micro SD - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, sorry I'd this has been posted before but just wondered if there is a certain type of 32gb Micro SD card that I need or will any one work?
Thinking of getting one as 16gb just ain't enough.

Be careful with the fake, Chinese ones out there on e-bay, etc. Many of them have far less capacity then they say..

Definitely avoid the cheap nasty one's on eBay! I bought one, looking for a cheap deal and trust me when I say it was more hassle than it was worth, data appears to copy across, but when you open the folders, they're empty. Fortunately the seller was a good guy and had himself been ripped off on a supply he had bought. He refunded me fully.
Bought a genuine 32GB card and I've had no problems with it.

Yeah I seen these, gonna stick to a name brand me thinks, just to be on the safe side

beware of fake one's on ebay.. I'm just saying...
What's the difference of the fake ones? Life expectancy? Reliability? I was looking at maybe a little over $100 dollars. I don't understand why they are so expesive. I purchased a 32GB SD card for my Netbook for $60 made by HP. Hasn't failed me yet.

From what I've read, the fake one is actually a 4gb or something, and then changed the info to show 32gb. So you copy data to it, looks like it will work, but when you try to access it, it will show corrupted files.
I wouldn't take a chance on corrupted files

Before I jump on this what are you guys input. Check out the link. Looks fishy to me. I'm pretty sure it's a knockoff Sandisk.
I'd recommend getting a 16GB Class 6 for around $60. When faster, cheaper 32GB cards come out, then upgrade to that.
yea i agree i just did a quick ebay search...prices should come down soon
i am getting a 16gb for now. my 8 barely has 5 GB on it, but i know i will shoot more video and play more music with the evo. just pulled the trigger... new egg has transcend 16gb class 6 for 69.99 shipped. when the 32s come out, i will pop the 16 into my wife's phone or our digital camera
What do you guys think of that "Sandisk" 32GB card? Should I buy it or are you guys a little skeptical?
I actually bought three Sandisk 32gb on ebay the other day, kept two and sold one. I was skeptical because they were fairly cheap, but they came in what looked like official Sandisk packaging and I was able to transfer 26gb of data, movies, etc and accessed all info perfectly on both my HD2 and Nexus One. I would not even think about touching the $18 ones...

Wait.. So is it a YES (I should buy it) or NO I shouldn't.
What I was saying is that the ones I'm selling are legit and cheaper than the guys selling for $385 and $395. Go look at the completed items and you will probably see the one that seems like a fair price. I would not purchase one if anyone is selling them for less than the $199 MSRP because they are probably fake including the $18 ones.
I'll throw $60 your way and a bunch of high fives if I can have it for that price. Hell I'll throw high fives for everyone.
Do not buy the 32gb cheap knockoff on ebay. Ask them what is the formatted size and what class it is and see if you even get an answer back.
weedahoe, I agree, definitely ask that first. The ones I bought/sold were formatted to 29.7gb and class 2...
What does class 2 mean? How is it different from class 6?

**** YES THANK YOU! I was dreading dishing out 200 for this, so you just made my week.
I ordered this yesterday and it shipped today. I am not concerned about class 2. I realize it will be slower than a class 6, but the stock sd card is class 2.
I have a serious sd card space management issue and have waiting for a deal like this. I use my phone as my primary music player (pandora and my own music hook up to my car and home stereos). I have found that if I have less than 1g remaining my phone starts to slow way way down. So I try to leave 1.5g available. Hard to do with music, roms, zip files, and roms on there. I haven't even been able to use apps2sd because I don't have the room.
Thanks for the quick reply...hmmmm may just have to pull the trigger on this one. It just kills me to invest more money in this phone... Between 3 cases, screen protectors, etc...I've invested a small fortune lol...all for the love of the EVO.

Guys just have a quick question ...
Since it's a 32GB card so it will hold a lot of data, my concern is LAG ... if I will fill it up, will it LAG loading songs or gallery ...?
Newegg is offering Kingston 32GB Class 4 for $99 ... is it worth paying twice as much ? will there be a huge difference ...?
Thanx.

The Evo does not have Gorilla Glass. But it is glass. And the only things that can scratch glass are the few things harder than glass. No screen protectors for me, either.

I'd have to agree with that. But most of if not all of those same accessories ship from Hong Kong too...everything ordered from the site I posted might cost a few bucks more, but they're shipped from the USA and arrive much faster. To some, that's worth the few extra bucks spent.

I am always willing to pay a little extra to get it from the states. I order stuff because I want it now, not in 3 weeks. I have my eBay app set up to show only US sellers for that reason alone. If it is actually the SDXC, I have a 64Gb one in my E4GT right now and it works great.
This exact MicroSD card is going for $99 on Newegg so there's little doubt it's counterfeit. For another $10 I'd rather spring for a 32GB card that comes with a warranty and hassle free return. Also I heard with the 64GB card the media scanner takes forever to process it.

My last one cost about 65-70$ from Amazon (so you can definitely get them cheaper than Newegg,) but I do agree that these are likely counterfeit (or stolen... muhahahaha)
Media scanner: yea, but marking the media scanner to not scan it (.nomedia) is my normal fix for that issue.

Here is an interesting article with some very interesting insight into the world of "fake" microSD card manufacturing in China... written by an American(?) who works at a factory in China. Apparently some "fake" cards are just substandard cards that flash memory makers dump on thesecondary markets...
You can find the article via Google. Search for "On MicroSD Problems bunnie's blog" it should be the first one that comes up
The article was very long and nearly put me to sleep... but still very interesting read.
This is the reply I got from him regarding the query of the card .

I believe the micro usb storage/flash drives are just starting to come out. You can skip the OTG all together. Think I saw one posted here not too long ago. Maybe dig a little deeper.
And another option http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/0...not-discriminate-between-pcs-and-smartphones/

Yeah I did do some digging and initially looked at the micro flash drives. The option you mentioned is $30 for 32gb whereas my option for 64gb only $10 more and would be about the same size dimensionally. Thanks for the insight though.
I found these on eBay earlier today:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/MicroSD-Card-Reader-with-Mini-USB-Sync-Cable-/220584799910
I haven't ordered yet but I like them better than the other micro USB microSD card readers I've found because they are really small and have a lanyard. You can attach it to your keys or add it to a dust plug like a cell phone charm. The listing has other HTC models, so I assume it works with the One.

You can buy a 64 GB microSD card for about $15 - $20. Add $10 for the adapter and you'd still come out ahead. Plus it apparently works as a sync/charging cable (though a very, very short one).
The listing says 8GB max, but that might have been the largest size available when they were made. I went ahead and made an offer to the seller, so if anyone is interested I'll report back whether it works with higher-capacity cards.
Doh, I just realized the reader has a MINI USB connector. Won't work for the One. However, I did find something similar with the correct port (and cheaper) for anyone else who may be interested in pursuing this route.
