after watching the vid it is really tempting to try this EL13. I don't really have any issue with EK02 though. Has anyone went to EL13 and back to EK02 or do you have to go back to EG30 then EK02?

I did, but I only did it to make sure I could. lol. Basically if you flash to EL13 and you don't like it, flash back to EG30 and then flash to EK02. I did this all in CWM/Rogue Recovery. No need for odin.
Oh and btw, I didn't lose any data by flashing from 1 modem to another and back to another.

Just so everyone knows, it is hard to compare speed tests unless they are done simultaneously, it depends a lot on network congestion.

Even side-by-side phones can be connected to different towers or using different EV channels. You would need to monitor that info in ##DEBUG#.

So is it now confirmed that only the version that you need to enter the password for locks the Odin counter reset? Sorry, just woke up. Stayed up too late messing with my NS4G

If you flash the full tar, it changes the bootloader and breaks jig. CWM flash is fine. It is easy to reflash the old bootloader back though.

No, since there was no OTA you must use odin, or have clockworkmod to install.

[Q] How to root EK02 on Mac?

Any help would be awesome. Thanks!
Anyone? Please...
not sure what you are asking..
If you are rooted already, just install a rom that is EK02
If you are not rooted, just root as you normally would, then install a EK02 Rom..
Korey, I think you would Odin a kernel with recovery and flash superuser.zip.

I assume you can get CWM onto your phone using your Mac. If so then just follow steps 3&4 of this post
3) Use CWM to install calkulin/chris41g's [STOCK] EK02 ROM (rooted) + EK02 Kernel (CWM5 repack)
4) OPTIONAL - Flash EK02 Modem
- This only works if you currently have EG30 modem - ie don't do this if you have EG12 or EG31 modems
- You can tell what modem you have by going to menu->settings->about phone->baseband version
- Once you go to EK02, you can only go back to EG31 or EG12. You CANNOT go back to EG30
- Use CWM to flash EK02 modem from qbking77's [Modem] EK02, EG31, EG12

Do you know how to root the phone using a mac? If not heimdall does work. You need to be comfortable using terminal and it's very easy once you know what you are doing. I rooted my phone using Max's kernel v3 with CWM. It's a thread for it in the development section.

Directly Flash EK02 Modem in CWM over ANY existing modem w/o reverting to EG30

There is now a CWM update.zip to flash the EK02 modem on top of ANY existing modem WITHOUT needing to revert to EG30 first.
Serial flashers rejoice!
update-modem-EK02-FULL-CWM.zip
IMPORTANT: Only EK02 kernels and higher support FULL modem flashes (which these are). Earlier kernels only support PATCH modem flashes. That means you need to be on EK02+CWM or EL13+CWM to run these CWM modem flashes. It has nothing to do with the modems themselves, it has to do with the kernels. If you try to flash FULL modem flashes in earlier kernels it will just hang for a long time and timeout. If you press-and-hold the power button while it is hung (wait 2 minutes before doing that), it'll reboot the phone and you will be on your old modem.
Testing was done using chris41g's EK02+CWM, and EL13+CWM stock repacked kernels (these are the ones installed by the Auto Root Thread) but should work on any stock-derived EK02/EL13-based kernels. Recompiled kernels may or may not work, weren't tested.
I also created CWM update.zip's for EG30, EG31, EK02, and EL13.
They are available in the Resource Section #a13 (2nd post) of the Auto Root Thread and also in my signature.
I've also updated the Wiki DB.
Enjoy!
I am confused. How was this accomplished with only a delta?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
Damn...I could have used this earlier today to get back to EK02 from EL13. Great work man, this will definitely be helpful.

Which kernel are you using? Are you using CWM? It needs to flash in CWM, not stock recovery.
Just to test your scenario out, I was running
EK02 Modem, EL13+CWM Kernel, EG30 ROM
I booted into CWM recovery and installed EG31 Modem using the first post.
Rebooted the phone, went to menu->about phone, verified EG31 Modem (EL13+CWM Kernel, EG30 ROM)
I ran a speed test over 3G then enabled WiFi and ran a speed test on that. Both were normal.
I then booted into CWM recovery again, and installed the EK02 Modem using the first post.
Rebooted the phone, went to menu->about phone, verified EK02 Modem (EL13+CWM Kernel, EG30 ROM)
Again ran a speed test over 3G then enabled WiFi and ran a speed test on that. Both were normal.
As an aside, with all 4 modems (EG30, EG31, EK02, and EL13) sitting on the /sdcard as full CWM updaters, switching modems has become a breeze. Takes on avg 2.5 minutes including flash and reboot time to switch to any of the modems.

I'll leave my ROM alone since it doesn't affect the flash.
I will go and test your scenario right now.
So you have EG31+CWM *chris41g repack* Kernel and EG31 Modem, correct?
And the current operation that is failing for you is flashing to EK02 modem using the first post?

Starting with EK02 Modem, EL13+CWM Kernel, and EG30 ROM, I downloaded the e4gtauto-sfx.exe packaged from the Auto Root thread in my signature.
I started the Auto Root, Chose Option C (install BootImg), and Option C (EG31+CWM), let phone reboot, went to settings->about phone, verified EG31 Kernel (EG30-CL435803 ie EG30-Rev5).
I now have EK02 Modem, EG31+CWM Kernel, EG30 ROM.
I reboot into CWM and flash EG31 Modem from my signature, here it hangs trying to flash EG31.
That was the kernel I didn't test since I'm never on EG31. Figures that is the one that hangs.
Apparently it doesn't have anything to do with the EK02 modem flash. It won't flash EG31 or EG30 either.
I went back and tested EG30 since I realize I had only tested a patch upgrade from EG30. Now it makes sense. Neither EG30 nor EG31 (built 1 day apart) kernels support FULL modem flashes. They only support PATCH modem flashes. EK02 and EL13 kernels support both FULL and PATCH modem flashes.
My suggestion is to install either EK02+CWM or EL13+CWM from the Auto Root thread in my signature. Then you can flash any of the modems any of the time.
Thanks for the detailed break down. Coming from an OG Evo, things used to be much easier lol

Did the Evo support flashing full modems from CWM? I never had one so don't know.
On other platforms I had only seen patch updates also so when Samsung was supporting full updates I was thinking they were pretty on top of things. Apparently they just recently became the cool kids on the block and before they were like the other kids.
You can of course flash the FULL modems over ODIN w/o issues similar to RUU flashes on HTC.
Everything has it's caveats, if you flashed bad radios on the Evo you could potentially lose the phone's WiMax keys, making 4G unusable. ODIN is definitely a blessing for Samsung phones though. The phone is ALMOST unbrickable with Odin.

Do you have to be running Chris's repacked kernel to use this? Does it work with the Rogue kernel and their recovery or you need to flash the stock repack? I am on EL13 and just wanted to know in case I want to roll back unless EK02 modem will flash over EL13 with a problem anyway....

I don't remember the Rogue naming conventions, there was one with a custom kernel and the other with stock repacked. The stock repacked should work as long as it is an EK02 or EL13-based kernel. The custom one may or may not, I don't know, wasn't tested.

PLEASE UNDERSTAND, THESE ARE NOT OFFICIAL BUILDS FOR A REASON, THERE WILL BE BUGS, SO DON'T WHINE IF YOU FIND ONE, FIND A FIX INSTEAD
Here are the complete tars for the FB15 & FB17 builds. Since FB17 didn't include a modem, I included the FB15 modem.
Special congrats to the ACS team for the FB17 build(& FB09) and to my anonymous source for the FB15 build.
Also side note - If you having issues with drivers, uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers worked for me
Extract tar first, then flash tar file through the PDA option in Odin
D710_CODE_SPH-D710.FB17_CL159611_REV02_user.tar.7z
D710_CODE_SPH-D710.FB15_CL143880_REV02_user.tar.7z
E4GT_Sbl_EG31.tar - Flash afterwards to allow reset jigs to work - Flash through the PDA option in Odin
And for those that just want the modem, here it is
E4GT_Modem_FB15.zip \ E4GT_Modem_FB15.tar - Zip must be flashed through a CWM based recovery & Tar must be flashed through the PHONE option in Odin
FAQ
If your having issues with Odin recognizing the phone after flashing this, use these instructions
Go to device manager, right click on the unknown device, update driver, click browse, let me pick from a list, select all(wait till it loads), find Samsung Co and install one of the ones that have modem in the name

Rooted with Zedomax + Caulkins Rom. Constantly rebooting.

Reboots usually about 10+ times a day. During calls etc. Any way to remedy this?
Note: it doesn't restart from the very beginning it freezes, goes black then boots up the lock screen all media connects are restarted etc.
From the limited amount of research I've done the zedomax method for rooted is no longer used? (Currently I get the yellow exclamation point at reboot).
What do I need to do (in lame mans terms) to get my phone back to normal?
TIA!
Easiest way is to one click Odin. I'm not sure which your on. I'm assuming GB. So you can one click Odin to stock el29+ root. Or if you want one click Odin to FF18 or FH13 to upgrade to ICS. And if your on ICS you can use triangle away to get rid of yellow triangle on the splash screen.

Using ZedoMax kernel is your problem from the get go. Even Zedomax would have a good laugh at that. Its an OLD OLD kernel.
EG30 and EK02 can be rooted via usb with the zerg exploit and sfhubs auto root made that easy. Easiest way with EL29 or the newer ICS firmwares as well is just to flash a prerooted one click. But you can always odin a kernel with custom recovery and flash super user.

You have CWM recovery right?
If so copy Calks rom onto your phone, if you don't still have it there.

Different issue:
1. I keep getting a FI27 Software Update reminder. I am able to clear it out of my notifications but 5-10 mins it's back again. It will interrupt whatever it is I am doing at the moment.
2. Is there a separate current radio I can download? My gps can never find my current location, rendering the turn by turn feature useless since I can't use it.
Any thoughts?

Sorry to hear about sextape, I hope whoever stole from him doesn't cause him to leave the community altogether. He's an important part of the E4GT developer community and noobs like me love his work.
Also, thanks rwilco for helping sextape and the rest of us out.
Downloading now! I appreciate all the hard work everyone does for these roms/kernels!
I have a question where I'm unable to reboot.
after running the oneclick, everything boots up fine, and I'm able to use the phone with no problem.
but when I try to reboot the phone, it gets stuck at the sprint animation (specifically at the yellow 4G part).
am i doing something wrong? help would be appreciated. thank you

Just to be clear, the phones boots up initially and everything is working? Phone calls, data, etc? If that is the case what's the very last thing you did before rebooting?
Here's my question. I need to unroot my phone. Could I use the full restore (v2) to reinstall the original FI27 setup, then use the auto root package option B (Uninstall root) to then Unroot this setup?

Took a little searching but I found fi27 one click unroot no data. Looks like its exactly what I need to use to unroot so I can return this.

Yes, everything was working normal.
The first time I had to reboot because my phone froze when opening Waze (to test GPS). and then it hung on the 4G screen at reboot.
Then I had to reflash with oneclick (save data) version.
The second time it froze because some other random app. And I did the same thing to get the phone back to working.
The third time, I just rebooted because I was curious. And it hung at the 4G again.
The 4th time, I decided I shouldn't remove the system apps (like Sprint voicemail, Sprint wallet) thinking that's what was making it hang and then rebooted again after making sure data and phone was working. But it got stuck on 4G again. (oh I used ES File explorer with root privileges to remove those Sprint apps)
Each time I was able to get my phone back with all the apps with the awesome one-click (with data) you've provided. So right now I am keeping my fingers crossed that I don't have to reboot my phone until the next one-click comes out or if you have a suggestion.
thank you
Hi guys,
My wife just got a e4gt and wants me to root it. She is stock 4.0.4 with FI27. So I can download the odin file in the OP and flash it and she will have the same thing but rooted? Thanks in advance.

My personal favorite has always been Agat's source-built kernels but I also really like Rujelus' latest kernel. Both are pretty nice.
I'll be performing this root later today. I'm on OSX so to clarify would I install Heimdall & install:
SPH-D710_FI27_CL1127689_Rooted_NoData.exe (Preserve User Data - do NOT use if downgrading versions)
Go into download mode then finish root and flash there?
(I am noob, haven't rooted/flashed in about a year and things change so fast).
thanks.
Sorry about the instructions for Heimdall missing - I've reposted it now that we've got the public/private issues worked out for where it was before:
