Any way to run RUU through bootloader on phone? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My usb port decided to quit working on my phone it won't charge either. I took it to Sprint, all of a sudden it works again, he said he didn't do anything to it but it works now and I took it home and it did. The tech also said it has basic root even after I used a PC36IMG to unroot, return to stock, and S-On. But a user on here said with my HBOOT reading 6.17.00001 instead of the 2.16.00001 that is how the tech found out I rooted it. It says S-On and DOESN'T say Revolutionary.
Any ways I was told I need to run an RUU to get the stock hboot so I can take my phone back to sprint and get it replaced/fixed if possible. I've never ran an RUU and was wondering if I could install it through the bootloader since my phone won't stay connected to the computer?
Sorry for asking this twice as I asked it in the RUU thread but I haven't received an answer yet and I'm needing to get this resolved asap . Thanks.
EDIT: Basically in short, i need to downgrade my hboot from 6.17.00001 S-ON to 2.16.00001 S-ON. And again i am unrooted, stock, s-on, usb wont work so i cant connect to computer or charge.

You need to download this PC36IMG file to your computer, and get it to your SD card, either from your computer or a computer with an SD card slot and adapter, or through your cord.

Thanks I'll definitely give it a shot.

No problem.
By the way the Hboot version should be 2.16.00001 not 6.16.00001 after returning to stock. 6.16 is the Revolutionary one.

Too many numbers lol.

Thanks for this. It was exactly what I was looking for

I've had the above option work for me before but also had it not work on another Evo I had. The other option I went with was looking for the fastboot.exe file.. (google.com will help, but I will post when I get on that PC). I placed it in my sdk folder inside platform-tools folder then connected with Fastboot USB via bootloader and sent the following command using cmd.
"Be sure to cd into your platform-tools folder before this command..if you have the sdk of coarse :\"
fastboot devices <<< this is just to be sure it locates your device
fastboot oem rebootRUU
The phone will then go into the black screen showing "htc" emblem and then you can run the RUU. Worked like a charm for me. This is a similar process using the adb command "adb shell reboot oem-78" Only reason I couldn't use that command was because I was stuck with a boot loop . lol
Hope this helps at all. Good luck bud. ..... hope it made sense to.. it is 5:06am cut me slack..

Bricked evo..help please

ok so i just tried rooting my evo. I used an out dated rooting method not compatible with the version of my phone. I have 3.30, hboot 2.02, and radio 2.15.00.09.01. When i turn the phone on it gets stuck at white htc screen. I can boot into the bootloader. I have tried running the ruu but when i do it doesnt recognize my phone is connected. I have htc drivers installed...i dont know what to, do please help
Does the hboot says s-on or s-off? If your s-off try flashing a rom through recovery or a pc36img ruu through the boot loader.

Well one, if you can get to the bootloader, you most likely aren't bricked, so breathe! What root method did you try to use? How far in the process did you get? How long did you let it stay at the HTC screen? Sometimes it takes a good long while. If I was in your situation, since your computer won't recognize phone, is take your SD card out of the phone. Download a stock ruu zip. Rename it to PC36IMG.zip. put it on your SD card, put SD card back in phone, and boot into the bootloader. It should find the zip, and you select to flash it. Give that a try.
EDIT: Damn,I'm always too late! And yea, as he said, if you are s off, and did successfully flash a recovery image, try flashing a Rom first. Id be surprised if you are s off with recovery if you used an old method with the 2.02 hboot. What happens when you select recovery from bootloader?
Find and download RUU_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.30.651.2_Radio_2.15.00.09.01_NV_1.77_003_release_154209_signed
That's the one that worked on a hardware 004 Evo I used the old method on
Any luck getting your phone back up?
my s is still on..when i go to recovery it shows the evo with the red exclamation mark. I will try putting the ruu zip on my memory card..i need to go get a usb for my hero as it seems i cannot find it and have no other way to put a file on my sd card. any ideas if that doesnt work? i am a little confused as why it will let me issue adb codes in the command prompt but htc sync does not pick up the phone
Yup your still not rooted. Try to get a way to put a file on your usb card so you can load a PC36IMG.zip ruu of your 3.30 rom so you can get back to stock and start your process over with unrevoked.

I have dealt with this issue before. It is difficult to get an ruu to run but I think it is worth it. Find the right ruu for your phone to get you back to stock. Once you have this get your phone in to bootloader and use the fastboot command I believe it is. This will help your computer recognize your phone. Then run the ruu after you have done this, may take a few tries but im positive it works. Good luck.

Do you have a card reader? that would also work. Would probably also be cheaper than a usb cable I would think, not sure though. (unless of course you still use the hero and want a new cable anyways)

[Q] HELP! Desire won't boot!

Hi everybody,
I have an S-Off HTC Desire running LeeDroid 2.3d. I've also flashed Clockwork Recovery 3.0.0.5 as the default recovery for the phone. I have been using an 8GB microSD until I got a 16GB today. I pulled the 8GB out and inserted the 16GB into the phone. However, once i put the 16GB inside the phone, it would no longer boot. The phone no longer boots up into the ROM, and it doesn't boot into Recovery mode as well; it just remains at the white HTC screen. Basically, I can only get into the Bootloader and Fastboot. Does anyone know what might be wrong and how I could fix this? Thanks a lot in advance!!
EDIT: I have since tried flashing different recoveries through Fastboot, but to no avail.
Come on guys I would REALLY appreciate if anyone could help me out with this =)
It boots up with the old 8 GB card?
If yes, you have to partition the new card for the custom ROM and reflash the ROM or restore a nandroid backup.
Sent from my customized HTC Desire using TTP
No, the phone does not boot up even with the old 8GB card. It's the same issue as with the 16GB card.
Do you guys think it would help at all if I tried to remove S-off from the device? I'm getting pretty desperate for ideas so any help is greatly appreciated.
Would anyone know how to remove S-off? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe I need the PB99IMG.zip file that downgrades the HBOOT from 0.93.1 down to 0.80 (or any other version would probably do). Is this correct? Does anyone have the file they could link me to? Thanks!

No, it does not boot at all. I've tried with an SD, without an SD. Even without a SIM
I would suggest running the RUU for your original rom, or one of the WWE ones. This will put your phone back to stock, no root, no s-off.
All of your data will also be wiped.

I'm sorry but I'm not sure how to do that. Can I do that even though I have no access to Recovery mode? If you could give me some instructions and point me in the direction of the file, that would be great!
You can do this if you can get into fastboot.
What are your original rom details? And was your phone branded/which carrier/which country etc..
The more details the better
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
Originally, my phone was from Hong Kong. I didn't buy it with a carrier, it was from an electronics store. So basically, it was unbranded and unlocked when I first got it.
Also, I'm really not sure how to do this through Fastboot, or even where to get the files... So yah... Sorry if I'm such an idiot lol
One more thing. I'm not sure if this is relevant but I don't have a goldcard.
OK, short and bundled for you. This is only a guidance list, you'll have to get the details yourself with your google-fu.
- get the android SDK. You'll get adb and fastboot with it.
- install the adb drivers.
- once you got that try "fastboot devices" in your windows command shell.
- it shows your device? OK, you did everything correctly.
- get to flash whatever you like by downloading an img file and flashing it with "fastboot <target location> <img-filename>
Cheers.
Ok another possibly stupid question. I've gone on this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667 and have downloaded one of the GSM WWE files. However, it's a .exe file. What do I do with that? I was under the impression that Fastboot only works with .img files? Also, what is the difference between the GSM WWE and the GSM URL files?
I have tried following some instructions I found off Google. It told me to run the RUU .exe file and extract the rom.zip file from it. I did this, renamed it to PB99IMG.zip, put it onto my SD, and tried to flash it via the Bootloader. However, I am given a message saying the CID is incorrect. I'm guessing this might be because I don't have a GoldCard? All in all, my phone is still not fixed, and I'm really hoping someone could help me out (i.e., give me some instructions as to how to flash the RUU .exe file through Fastboot).
Remove the PB99IMG.zip file from the sd card.
Turn off the phone.
Hold down back and the power button.
You should now be in the fastboot menu.
Plug the phone into your computer with usb. It should now say 'fastboot usb' instead of 'fastboot' on the phone.
Then run the RUU exe file on your computer and follow the instructions on the screen of your computer. It will install the rom automatically.
I had this problem at the weekend and couldn't fix it. Phone went off to HTC who have sent it back after fixing, I don't know what they did though because I missed the delivery of my phone back today
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=951950
The error message indicates you need a goldcard to flash the WWE ROM.
have you checked if one of the Asian ones can be applied without a goldcard.

The Downgrade of the Bootloader only works if you are running a device that can actually boot up fully. Download this RRU, put your phone into Fastboot via the Bootloader menu, connect your phone to the computer whilst in Fastboot, you should see the Red Fastboot writing change to Fastboot USB Plug, when you see this run the RRU you downloaded, and you're device should be restored to Factory Default with the latest version of Froyo. You WILL loose all data and root and S-Off, but this is the only thing I can think of to fix your device mate hope I helped...
*Sorry, I just realised someone had posted a similar tutorial, I only read the first page of the thread, didn't realise there was a second. You don't need the AndroidSDK, if you have HTC Sync installed, then all the drivers should automatically be there, but when you run the RRU, just make sure that you close HTC Sync (it'll appear in the taskbar on Windows) as it thinks the device is syncing, and can occasionally cause problems.
YES!!!! You guys are amazing! I managed to find my old GoldCard and flashed the RUU jaaystott posted. The phone now boots up and everything is in perfect working order. I'll be sure to thank everyone for their help!

[Q] Stuck DesireHD, can still get HBOOT, OrangeUK, help! (Noobishness within)

Hi all,
After scouring the intertubes for 2 days, I've had to give in and beg for wisdom on this one.
Recently inherited a Desire HD from my wife, factory-reset but loaded with Orange crapware, so I thought I'd crack on and root straight away.
Went for it with the AAHK kit, however it hung at the white screen after restarting, and have had no life out of it ever since. I can still access the HBOOT screen and Bootloader, from which I managed to query the device infor, CID etc, see attached file. HBOOT info is:
ACE PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-0.85.0024
MICROP-0438
RADIO-26.09.04.11_M2
eMMC-boot
Apr 12 2011,00:55:45
I've tried to get the firmware up and running again with various RUU's, with and without the goldcard I've made, and am now at a loss! The RUU will initially look to be working, get some way into the progress bar before returning the error message - 'The ROM Update Utility cannot update your android phone. Please get the correct ROM Update Utility and try again.'
As the device can switch on, it's clearly not a brick, just incredibly stuck!
Can anyone help me get this going again, ideally unbranded and rooted?
Thanks in advance!

Ok, the phone is still s-on.
Did you try to run aahk again on the phone?
What system did you use to run aahk on? Maybe try the method with the ubuntu boot cd to rule out any problems with the host computer.
Since the phone is still S-ON you can only install signed images. But the RUU ones should work.
Did you also try to copy the RUU to the SD-Card (adb push "RUU-File" /sdcard/PD98IMG.zip) and boot into hboot?

I presume pushing the RUU to the SD card is the same as copying it and renaming the file? I've literally zero experience of the terminal ocmmands involved.

[Q] Can't boot stuck at HTC EVO 4G

I'm repairing a HTC Evo 4g which my friend hired me to fix for his friend which won't boot. It stays stuck at the main screen when it boots up. The phone to all of our knowledge hasn't been rooted or anything but that can always be wrong. I can't access recovery but can access fastboot.
The fastboot screen says

Any information on how to approach this would be great.

What happens when you try to access recovery from the bootloader screen? The phone has an older Hboot and it's S-on, but that doesn't mean it isn't rooted. Might need to run a RUU from the bootloader
Also, did your friend receive the phone in this condition?

When you go into the recovery the phone freezes, reboots, HTC EVO 4G screen and shuts off.
The phone owner did not receive it this way I believe they said the phone just randomly did this and never worked again.

Why has the evo declined in popularity so bad?
Try running this RUU through the bootloader. This will bring the phone up to software version 4.67 and install the stock Android recovery, as well as update all firmware. You'll need to place the file on the root of your external SD card and run it through the bootloader. Make sure the phone has a good charge on it before trying this. I can't remember if you need to rename the file PC36IMG.zip, or leave it as is. Hopefully this will get you up and running. Just follow the prompts in the bootloader.
The advice is free....the bandwidth, not so much
It needs to be renamed to "PC36IMG.zip" (make sure its not ".zip.zip" by accident)
Just for clarification, an RUU is run on a computer with your phone attached, what you are suggesting is flashing stock software through the bootloader

Actually I believe it can be done both ways. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, though, as I've never had to run one myself.

Disregard if you seen what I previously had. I missed the SD card step. I can't do this until I find an SD card since my Android phone has a built in SD card and no way to have an external one. And the phone happens to be missing it's SD card aswell.
The radio is 2.15.00.11.19
Ok I did everything you guys said. When I go into the bootloader it loads the image and everything. I then go into my PC and run the RUU. But it gets stuck at Updating Signature and eventually gives me the 155 error unknown problem.
Can you guys tell me why it's doing this to me? I got everything on my SD card correctly and everything.

Actually I believe it can be done both ways. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, though, as I've never had to run one myself.
The advice is free....the bandwidth, not so much

Yeah, they both do the same thing because you can actually pull a bootloader flashable zip FROM the RUU
The only point I was trying to make is that RUU's are specifically executables run through a computer
Going to try what you said now, wish me luck lol 2 months of nonstop trying to fix it.
Stuck at updating signature again I even tried a different ruu version.

HTC Desire (Bravo) help to S-Off!!!!

Hi everybody! I would like to start saying that i remember did this long time ago and now i really dont know how to proceed. hahahahaha
I was looking to change my MildWild Rom to the Beanstalk for HTC Desire (Bravo), however i found the threat where it explains how to do it, but im not able to pass the first step since i need to install a Jmcclue Hboot 250/5/182, but when i use the BP99IMG method for that Hboot, my phone does not take it since it is S-On right now...
My problem is that i really dont remember how to S-Off my phone based on the current Boot information:
*** UNLOCKED ***
BRAVO PVT4 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-1.03.0003
MICROP-051d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-5.11.05.27
DEC 21 2011
If someone could help me with this or give me a Threat where i can have more detailed instructions i would really appreciate it! :good:
First you'll need to downgrade your HBOOT to a version compatible with Revolutionary.
Download and install the PB99IMG 2.3 RUU by following the instructions here. Once thats done your phone will be back to stock HTC Sense, and in the bootloader, the HBOOT version should have changed to 0.93.0001 or 1.02.0001.
Let me know once thats done, and I'll give you further instructions.

Ok so i downloaded the BP99IMG zip file and put it on the SD card root, but when i go into the bootloade the file is not installed, i dont get any prompt or anything like that, if i access the option fastboot it seems to be loading the BP99IMG file but once loaded it does nothing at all, just goes back to the bootloader screen with no further option, am i doing something wrong?

Sometimes you have to wait a while. Turn off the phone, then go back into the bootloader by holding volume down + power. Once its there, leave it for a couple of minutes and wait for a prompt to install the file.
R u sure u the zip is PB99IMG.ZIP NOT BP99IMG.ZIP?

Yes the name is ok, but I actually let the phone for some time and still not able to install the ZIP file i really dont understand what happens cause i reset my phone on bootlader and when i access it, shows that is searching the files on the Sd card, but it recognized the PB99IMG, a little vertical progress bar shows on the top right corner and when it finishes nothing else happens, just goes back to the bootloader screen...
Maybe i will need to actually S-off the phone before try anything else, am i right?

After the black progress bar is done loading, I should ask you if you want to install. Press volume up for yes.

Yeah i got that, but it seems that nothing happens, it just goes back to the menu and does nothing, even if i give it and hour and nothing happened, has something to do the fact that i have it plugged to the computer, don`t think cause i tried both...

He already has unlocked bootloader, read first post, his bootloader details. So he'll need to relock his bootloader via fastboot command
fastboot oem lock
Then follow @Chromium instructions.

Im guessing u have adb & fastboot set up on ur pc. So boot ur phone into fastboot (back button + power) plug in ur phone to pc then open fastboot command window and type
fastboot oem lock
That will relock ur bootloader and then the ruu should work.
