Movie Studio- Does yours work? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I was please to see a native video manip program. I was also pleased to see I could thread 2 clips together with transitions however when I actually export the video the transition skips every time the clips change. Also, regardless of what setting I use, when I play the video back it is like a thumnail size in the android player- a little pointless.
has anyone used this successfully?

*bump* *bump*

never played with it before, so i figured id test it out...
I just tried to put two clips together and it just straight up crashed... the program closed. So I went into apps settings menu force closed it, and now it can't even load the project. It can't start a new project either... it just hangs on "loading project"...
so, no, mine don't work either. I'm on stock 4.0.2, rooted. Sounds like mine is brokener than yours.

Works fine for me!

That's a bit of a pity. At least mine functions stably- it's just the skipping during the clip transitions.
Stadsport- can you join two clips with a transition (any) inbetween and play back without a jump during the transition?

I just tried it and I get a little bit of a jump in the the before and after the transition. Cdma/lte Gummy 6.7
Other than that it is a pretty cool.

Think that's exactly what I'm talking about. It's frustrating that they should ad an option that doesn't work properly. Transitions are there to help link 2 clips together better, not make the change more pronounced lol.

ya.. i just got it to work... my phone was wigging out for a while...
I did get the transition jump/skip.
My guess is that it is just pretty bad software. Maybe issues with the types of movies put into the project, but any movie editing software should be able to handle multiple types of formats and a simple paste one after the other without a chunky buggy skip / time shift / blackout.
couldn't add a subtitle for one video, can only add certain filetypes for audio tracks it seems. Although the interface is pretty good, and the options are pretty neat. Wish it worked well...
+1 for iPhone :'(

Mine works at times. It stopped midway through rendering one time, and the second time it worked fine.

HTC Desire - Lag in program menu

Hey everyone,
Just received my Desire today, think it is an awesome phone except I have one little niggle and I'm not sure if it's just me. When I'm in the 'All programs' view if I flick the list down towards the bottom there is noticeable lag. It's weird, it only happens when it reaches the bottom but it clearly stutters and jogs a bit as it gets to the end.
Weird thing is I havn't really noticed it anywhere else in the phone. Does anyone else with the phone have this issue? It's one of the first things I noticed when I opened it and all the reviews I've seen have not mentioned any lag at all so I don't think its right!
Thanks
I notice lag when I'm running at near to 0 mb Ram left, so it could be you have too many Apps open! :O - All other times its smooth.
A shutdown+turn on (restart) would be the bes tway to end all those applications that didnt actually close.
Or install something like Advanced App Killer and just kill off unwanted processes that way.
Thanks for the replies, I havn't tried restarting the phone but I do have the Advanced App Killer and it happens even when I've just killed everything. :\
It seems to happen much more when scrolling down, not up. What software version do you both have? Mine is 1.15.161.4, I'm wondering if it is a software issue because I havn't noticed it except on this programs screen.
Its only very slight, if you start from the top of the apps list, and scroll fast all the way down, the last row has a slight lag.
But really, the reason no reviews or anyone has not mentioned this is because its a none issue. You only see it if you go looking for it and its so slight the majority of people reading this thread will have no idea what you're talking about.
I've never noticed that, but now that I try it, I have the same thing. And I do kill my apps on a regular basis.
Must be some sort of minor bug. Doesn't bother me though.

That article describes how Android should work, unfortunately it doesn't exactly work that way. There are plenty of apps that leak memory as well as devs using all sorts of undocumented API calls that make apps work in different way than intended.
It's not RAM am sure of it was the same on the hero when you got near the bottom it lagged , funny thing when you use launcher 2.1 like on Nexus one its as smooth as butter in the programs menu, I wish they had used it in Sense as it looks far better.
I wonder if any genius out there can get it working in sense and replace HTC's standard one.
I don't have the Desire, but on the Hero the scrolling slows down at the end, before it stops. What do you mean by lags? like hangs for a second or something? or snaps at the end before it stops?
A video can help.
It could be that HTC need to look into the code there.

What happens is that if I scroll down fairly quickly a few lines before the bottom there is a sort of shudder and slow down. It's a bit jittery, but it was something I noticed after I had only been using the phone a few minutes. Someone else I've shown it to notices it as well.
However Ive also just noticed that there is one single spec of dust under the screen right in the middle! Because of that I might just see if I can get a replacement. Would it be something to ask the carrier or HTC?
Its just not as smooth is the best way i can explain, it did exactly the same thing on the hero, as you start scrolling down all is fine then when you hit the bottom it could be called a tiny bit of slow down, like if you was gaming and the frame rate drops slightly so you lose the smoothness.
When i enable the 2.1 launcher its as smooth as anything and it is a far better looking apps system out of the two , i still say the same i would like to see this enabled in sense.
There was a vid on Youtube where people asked a guy doing Desire vids about this issue. His opinion was:
'it does not really lag. It is more like the system slows it down because it wants to'
Now on my HD2 when I scroll trough the start menu, it also stops on purpose(looks smooth though). On the Desire however I agree it looks more like lag then anything else..
Now that I think of it, I think I have seen this issue on every phone running Android.
Just try to ignore this issue I would say
I Dont have any such issue on mine.

I tend to use the 2.1 launcher as i prefer it to the sense look, its fine with that launcher its only when sense is enabled.

Ok nice to know. Another reason to try Stock 2.1 once I get my Desire But with Stock 2.1 on the Desire, you get 7 home screens right? (normal 2.1 aka just turning of Sense, not flashing stock rom or something)
Has anybody found a sloution for this yet (apart from getting rid of sense that i quite like so i want to keep it)??
It's a damn shame 'cause it seems to be the only place where the phone slows down and as it's quite a common place to be it really bugs me!!!
I have similar lag.
Posting a vid that shows it.
Movie is only 30 fps, so its not that clear as it seems IRL.

Quite hard to discern from the video as you mention but seems the same issue I originally posted about. On mine though it only really happens when you do a rapid scroll over a long distance, i.e. just holding my finger there and scrolling up and down as you did in the video seems fine to me. If i scroll quickly though and let it go just before the bottom it does a little jump and then keeps going again.
After using the device for a couple of weeks now, I agree with what someone else posted that its not lag but a bug. I think there is a problem with the algorithm that controls the slow down at the end, because for me it is a very noticeable jump that happens and seems to be artificial, not because the device can't handle the scroll.
yup same here,
i noticed a small lag when scrolling down in the program menu, the funny thing is... it didn't have that when i first got it.
Its when i started to put some progs on it, that it began to lag (or whatever you want to call it)

Three issues / questions : AVRCP, Panoramic Shots, Sense Crashes

I've got three questions for this terrific community, hopefully somebody has either noticed them and fixed them as well or might be able to help otherwise. Not rooted. Thanks in advance for your assistance!
1. AVRCP : After initially testing out great, my stereo bluetooth headset's controls no longer seem to control my music. Using a Southwing SA505 headset and the basic Sense music application. Music still plays through the headset fine, I just can't control it using the buttons on it. Has anybody had similar experiences?
2. Panoramic Camera Shots : Not technically a problem, but coming from a Touch Pro, I was just wondering if anybody knew of a way to get this functionality working on the otherwise superior camera app on the EVO. As I recall, it wasn't enabled by default on Winmo either and had to be reg hacked in.
3. Sense Crashes : No huge deal, but worth asking. My presumption is that perhaps I'm using ATK and being too aggressive, I usually get crashes when manually killing processes, but since ATK remembers what I've excluded I don't understand why it just happens sometimes and not others. Any suggestions on processes I should avoid killing in order to avoid this?
Thanks again all!
I'm going to be that guy and tell you to get rid of ATK. It does more bad than good.
Let's kill the ATK deal before it gets started. It works for some, not for others...let him decide. When you have basically no 3rd party apps installed and still see a nice smoothness change when running atk, it's hard to argue against it. But like I said, some people are not seeing any difference, so just let it be.
1. AVRCP: I an using a Motorola T505 with no problems. I can use the controls on the unit to Pause, NextSong, PrevSong, etc.
3. ATK: Sounds like it is killing more than it should. I run ATK several times a day with no crashes ever. I have had my Evo since June 4th.
May want to try to hold off on using ATK for a few days to ensure that something else is not crashing HTC Sense.
Good luck!
I use AVRCP on my Jabra BT3030 and so far it works great. Only really used it with Last.fm but it pauses, and skips fine
Thanks to all for their responses so far!
Re: ATK, yeah...I may be a little too quick with it, I've got it set on 'Safe' auto-kill on screen-off and it rarely if ever crashes Sense there, it seems to be when I do it on my own. I do it out of a desire to save battery life, surprise surprise, but I think I will back off.
Re: the AVRCP, what makes it extra odd is that it worked for me on the first day and not since! I was pumped when it worked, it made that 'out of box experience' extra nice when 'things just worked' lol, now...not so much.
Nobody else notice the missing Panoramic shot ability or care? No deal breaker, but it was kind of cool on the TP and I had hoped with the increased capabilities of the hardware and of Android that it might be even cooler now on the EVO, perhaps HTC just completely did away with it?
I absolutely loved the panoramic mode on my former HTC Diamond. I've been looking for an app that does it as well and have found nothing.... let me know if you do - thanks!
The Andropan app says it can take panoramic pictures.

@iKimodragon : Thanks for the info! I'm downloading this now, though one of the comments within Market said that it crashed on EVO. I'll give it a try and report back. Re: my question about AVRCP, does anybody have any suggestions on how I might fix this issue even if they aren't having it themselves? Perhaps some kind of cache to clear, drain my headset comepletely, so on and so forth? Thanks again.
Update on Andropan : Unfortunately it appears as if the comment on the market that I read was right on target, the program ran but after taking the first picture froze and I received a 'force-close' message soon thereafter. Thanks for the suggestion though!
Hey, did you get anywhere as far as getting the AVRCP profile to work on your EVO again? Seems like there are a few others (as well as myself) suffering from this on the Beyond Pod forum as well. No answers yet.
One of the things that nagged at me as a plus for the Droid X was panoramic shots. They looked pretty good. My little 3.2 on the Raphael (fuze) could do panoramics and I really liked it. (Ironically my $400 Luminex doesn't do panoramics...ticks me off.) So my phone was the only way.
I'd love to see panoramic pics...not sure if it could ever be pulled out of the droid and set up for the evo. They both have same size cams...no idea if hardware is same.

Unfortunately I never did figure anything out, and as you can see within this thread, that quickly died, that nobody else ever offered any suggestions on that issue. Perhaps some renewed interest will drum up something, here's to hoping!

(If you're still using ATK)
When I was still using sense, and ATK, I had the HTC calendar widget running on a home screen, and I found that if I scrolled over and it loaded into memory, then I locked my screen (and ATK would auto kill apps) when I came back to the home screen it would have to reload everything.
So if you're using the HTC calendar widget, that's why sense is crashing, it's something with that. If you're not using it then I don't know what the problem is.
A good alternative to the calendar widget is Android Agenda Widget. Very customizable and I found it as a great replacement.

Rhyter,
Did you ever make progress on this?
I have same issue with 2 different headsets.
Apparently it has to do with the bluetooth controls being intercepted by a different program.
what is strange is that winamp did not have this problem. Winamp apparently set itself as the primary controller of AVRCP.
I have searched for a program that will let me control AVRCP without rooting the phone, but I haven't found any.
Anyone please help!!!
Thanks.

new 2.2 features question

so when google had their I/O conference they showed us some pretty neat stuff. the music app that pulled your music from cloud, the send to phone chrome plugin, you get the idea...
where the hell is all that stuff?
Already played around with chrome to phone today, it works well.
Go here: http://code.google.com/p/chrometophone/downloads/list
Get the APK and install it on your phone, then get the extension and install it on your chrome browser. You have to set it up once and then you will have a new button on your chrome

Honest review from a critical nerd (me)

I've has my Galaxy Nexus for a couple of days now, on the Three network in the UK.
I hate how most people in reviews rave about phones when they have just forked out for them, and fail to mention any real negatives - presumably because they refuse to accept that something they've spent £500 on might be less than perfect. When you buy one and it's missing features or isn't quite what you expected, it's very annoying.
Here are my thoughts so far. I consider myself a power-user, and have tested almost everything. Overall, people are right. This is the best phone I've touched. I think once devs start optimising their apps to work properly on ICS it'll be even better. Fingers crossed that Cyanogen will address lots of the annoyances below.
I hope this is useful for someone
The Good:
Feels much more complete and unified.
It's lightening fast.
Most of the best bits of Android have transferred.
Screen looks great.
Face unlock works much better than I thought. Even in low light.
I've only had one crash despite installing a tonne of apps and testing every feature. [EDIT: a few FCs today. Mainly from the pre-installed Google Earth).
Radio seems to work fine on Three UK, unlike the SGS II which has data issues due to fast dormancy. Data speeds are great.
Browser generally much better.
Text input much better, but editing is a little confusing and seems to vary depending on app. [EDIT: This is actually phenomenal. I've always had a hardware keyboard or Swype before so no practice on these keyboards. After only 48 hours, I can literally type without looking. It is very good at correcting mistakes.]
Screen size is great for me, as I use my phones as mini-tablets. Doesn't feel bulky in my pocket at all.
BLUETOOTH STEREO FINALLY DOESN'T DISTORT - I can hear hi-hats again instead of just distortion. There is a bit of constant crackling though.
Screen remains responsive when charging. I have had an issue where it wasn't registering touch properly when charging on my Milestone, Desire and SGSII so this is really nice.
The Bad:
EVEN THOUGH I'M SUPPOSEDLY IN AN UNAFFECTED BAND, IF MY PHONE DROPS TO 2G, AND SOMEONE WALKS NEAR ME MAKING A PHONECALL IT PUTS MY PHONE ON SILENT.
The 'menu' button is unpredictable. For example, in most apps it appears at the bottom with the softkeys. In Market it's up at the top, near the search button. In some apps, it has gone. Seems to vary and is confusing.
You're stuck with the Google search box on you home screen. I hate this.
Now the button has gone, if an app doesn't have a search icon, you've lost the ability to search.
Also means no long press search, so you have to go back to the home screen for voice commands. This also means that regardless of what launcher you use, if you want voice search, you NEED to have the Google search widget on your home screen.
No USB Mass Storage – they've opted for media device profile instead. My Xbox recognises it but can't play any content. It doesn't work with my car stereo. It doesn't work with my TV. My laptop will see it, but I can't see certain hidden folders. This has just removed a huge aspect of flexibility from Android. It's no longer universal, and more like an iPhone now in that respect.
Icons are as ugly in real life as everyone expected.
Blue theme clashes with everything except blue. Blue icons on blue background feels very bland.
There is a huge problem with speech to text, whereby it is very slow, and seems to just write a list of names out of my contacts directory rather than writing what I say! Video here: http://youtu.be/qHVptz2EtMk
No longer accepts certain file formats over Bluetooth.
Camera seems buggy when reviewing photos. It works confusingly.
Gallery is not very intuitive at all.
Browser doesn't display Javascript animations properly.
Dropped a few calls.
Wifi range isn't as good as my other Androids
Front facing camera doesn't aim inwards towards your face. It points straight forward at 90 degrees, but it's positioned on the right of the device, so your face isn't central unless you hold the phone at a bit of an angle facing away from you. [EDIT - this is getting very annoying now. You have to have the phone screen pointing almost away from you to video call]
Bluetooth calls don't seem to work. Caller can't hear what I'm saying. [EDIT - I'm told it works on newer kits. Mine is a Jabra stereo receiver]
Bluetooth music has a constant crackling behind it, but it's barely noticeable in loud music.
All albumart appears in the phone gallery.
Google Talk seems to sign out after a while. It's showing all of my contacts as away even though I know they're online. Signing out and in again fixes this temporarily, but I'm guessing I would miss video calls whilst offline.
Phone has gone to permanent sleep about 3 times in 2 and a half days now. Requires a battery pull to get it back on.
Apps - If you can't live without these, I'd recommend waiting to buy until they're fixed
No menu button is shown on Facebook, so there's no way to set it up to sync contacts or notifications. This means no contact photos for now.
Twitter on the other hand syncs all my contacts, despite me telling it not to.
Doesn't support Swype as yet.
Doesn't support MX Video Player.
iPlayer not available in the Market.
Grooveshark app doesn't work due to lack of flash player. You can use Dood's music streamer for a functional but unattractive alternative.
Thanks for the review and honesty. It would be nice if you kept this updated as either your opinion changes or things are fixed from either Google or app developers.
Is web browser as smooth (scrolling, pinch to zoom) as one on the galaxy s2?
I really beginning to wonder if Verizon is going to put these out there in two weeks without some fixes/improvements in place. I mean, if December 8 is real, these phones have got be in sealed boxes already. People will be returning them faster than they sell them.

It feels a lot smoother than my Galaxy S II did.
I'm about to test the bluetooth quality, as crackling audio was my biggest pet hate from previous Android versions.

I hope yopu don't mind but I am going to hijack this thread and also post a quick review from a similar nerd is maybe over critical. Saves starting a new thread.
The Good
ICS is very polished, much more so than any other version of android, it tries to stay consistent through the whole phone where as in previous versions it was one of my main annoyances.
The device looks fantastic.
The speed is very good, I wouldn't say it is any faster than a SGS2 with a custom rom IMO but it is a lot smother in animation etc. so it feels a lot faster.
The screen is very nice, playing videos when the screen is set up to an acceptable brightness are amazing with colours a lot more natural than the SGS2 or the yellow tint of the iphone 4.
Radio is very good also, getting full signal in my house where as before i would only receive 2-3 bars.
Text input is a lot better although i have found it is unable to keep up with my typing, although it is putting the letters down it almost seems like there is a little delay in the animation of them magnifying.
Notification light is back and I am glad, as I missed that feature on my SGS2.
Has everything, NFC, noise cancelling mic, 720p display and ICS. Its pretty much future proof (in terms of the next few years)
Zero shutter lag is a very good feature
Bad Points
The screen although very nice on full or half brightness is not very good on auto brightness. It is so much lower compared to all my other smart phones it is almost unusable I find so I have had to manually set the brightness.
Auto rotate as I have mentioned in another thread is very inconsistent, very fast in some apps nearly non existent in others.
Sound quality is quiet, not poor quality but very quiet. My SGS2 and iPhone 4 over power it when playing videos.
The browser is fast but it is not as fast as my SGS2 running Check Rom Revolution HD. It is deffo faster than the iPhone 4.
The camera is not great, its not bad but the quality feels like it is from a year old device. Quite grainy, not as good as the SGS2 or the iphone 4s unfortunately.
And lastly a few quirks which I am sure will be sorted out with an over the air update, occasional stutter when opening app draw, gallery doesn't seem terribly smooth when going through photos and the auto rotate is just annoying me.
Other than the above I don't want people to read this and think it is doom and gloom because it isn't. This is a very very good device, I am glad I purchased it because it is still the best phone on the market in my opinion.
Every phone has its niggles but that is why this forum is so great, I am looking forward to the community baked roms which always make a device go from very good to just awesome.
To answer some question, you can't resize the search bar. Its not really a widget its sort of like the controls at the bottom, permanently there.
when typing does it type well, what I mean is it off when typing and you keep getting bad letters up, I had that problem with the SGS2 someone mentioned it was a screen problem that it kept jumping
thanks

Nope, can't resize it. It's there permanently. You'd have to install another launcher.

Good lord. That's a lot of negatives. Thanks for the honest review for undecided minds like me. Just two questions. Well you have to bare in mind that ICS is a big over haul, so if we were to list all the positives it would be a pretty big list. I am just venting my negatives of the device, but when you compare them to how good the device is they really are small and I would rather have this handset than any other. I forked out for both my SGS2 and the Galaxy Nexus sim free and i am not dissapointed with either. If you are undecided on whether to upgrade you have to look at the fact that this phone does have everything, is a developer phone and has ICS written specifically for it. I would say go for it.
If you use a 3rd party launcher the Google search will not be present, my GPS has been excellent, I have used it for a few car journeys and it is just as good as my SGS2 which was superb.

Yep I know, ICS seems to be the biggest change among the previous Android versions. Together with Google & developers' support, it's why I want to jump ship to the Nexus line. At the moment I'm leaning towards it, just wanna read more reviews. Although the volume adjusting problem that many people are having is a bit of a concern. Hopefully it will be fixed by a software update.

Nitro HD performance

Hello everyone,
I am currently an Atrix 4G user and have the phone running on CM7. It is running silky smooth, super fast and has no lags whatsoever. Now I am really interested in getting the Nitro HD but from what I have been experiencing while playing around with in the store is that the UI seems to lag/stutter every now and then. At times, it even takes a second or two to react and change screens. I'm just worried that I will be disappointed with its performance and being stuck with it for at least a year.
Anybody is having these stutter/lag issues on their phones or is just this test phone at the store that's crappy?
I have one and unfortunately it does annoying little lags and hang ups all over the place. I even rooted, removed all bloat have very little running and it will still lag. the hardware is so fantastic, I'm just praying we get some developer support cause this hardware deserves better !

I also experience lag on this phone. Have rooted and removed bloatware and running a different launcher. I also hope there will be developer support for this phone a my Inspire with virtuous ROM is smoother than this phone right now.

Yes, currently using ADW EX. Have also tried Launcher Pro+ and Go Launcher. It lags with everything. No matter what browser i use for example, it always lags and hangs on the back button or scrolling half way through a page it will stall for a second then kick in.
was there ever a CM7 release for any of the LG phones of the same family as the Nitro?? if there was, then it shouldn't be too difficult for them to create one for this phone. I think other than the resolution stressing the phone, I also think it's just bad coding on LG's part.
do a privacy > factory data reset
and the lags will be gone!

i agree. i also did a hard reset as well. i am very impressed with the performance of this phone.
I rooted the phone, did a hard reset, shut off unwanted AT&T and LG bloat processes and switched launcher to ADW. I also switched my main browser to Opera... Now running very smoothly!
Edit: guys don't confuse a factory reset vs. a hard reset. Factory rest will only wipe your personal data and you access this through the settings menu. A hard reset restores the phone and is started by holding the volume down, home and power keys while the phone is off.
Now its getting interesting, I'm almost assured to upgrade to it. Would anybody mind uploading a short video just to show how the lag is gone pls?

Sure - I made a quick video about the results of my attempts to optimize the phone: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EWA68pHzhMo&feature=youtu.be
(Sorry couldn't fig. out how to embed vid). All the steps I took to get this phone working to this point can be found here. The other thing I did not mentioned on that post is that I no longer use Go Launcher and now use ADW since it performs better.
What Widgets you using I must say it looks legit the way you have set up.

when i did the hard reset it deleted the HD pictures and video that came pre-installed, fyi.
also, i've decided there's no reason for me to root mine, this thing is smooth as silk. very nice device.

Has the battery life improved significantly after all those changes?

Yes, it definitely doesn't burn through 10-15%/hr now. I used to take it off the charger around 7:30am and I'd come home around 7 to -10%. Now I come home w/some medium usage and I'll still at least have 30-40%.

Scott,
I would like to know your experience with the phone. It had lots of lag in the corp store, guess you had the same lag when you got it as well? What have you done besides a hard reset? You using stock browser? How is the battery life and have you done anything to improve it?
Everyone,
I tested the Nitro and it had lag in the corp store. It was very noticeable mainly when you pinch and zoom in/out of graphics heavy websites. I really want to like this phone but the battery life and lagging kill this thing. I'm looking for a phone and right now I am leaning towards the samsung skyrocket as it has none of these problems and has great dev support. No 720p though. However, I loaded up a 1080p video on youtube and compared the two phones side by side but did not see that much difference. I was expecting to be blown away. I don't know if it was is my eyes or if the screen is just too small to make a big difference.
I wouldn't want to root the phone. However, I don't mind doing a hard and factory reset or other things as long as I can do it without rooting. Seems like some are having success by doing just factory and hard resets.
I'd like to know some of the experiences of other Nitro users before making making my decision.

I I didn't really have any lag with the phone. There was some lag at first. From the homepage to the apt page. I am speaking this in fact. its doing pretty good interpreting my words. I deleted the at&t bloatware that could be deleted. I did a hard factory reset. I installed go launcher and pro amP. Antutu attached. Fantastic song gorgeous screen Still a valuating battery seems to drains quickly. I'm very happy With this phone

That's great! Did you do a quadrant benchmark after your optimizations? Also, while browsing graphic-heavy sites with Opera, do you experience lag while pinch zooming?
did a factory reset.... dramatic difference in how smooth it is now.
