If you could give us some instruction on how to do it on an LG phone that would help. Me and at least one other user have tried to using adb with this method (http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile...es-boot-recovery-and-system-partition-images/) without success (apparently it has issues with LG phones). I would be more than happy to do it if I knew how.

Hello so I am new to these forums but have used them in the past for assistance. I have been trying to root a att fusion 2 aka u8665 ive seen a couple posts on here about how to and someone said they were successful but vauge steps cause frustration.

As i said i have been trying for a while and basically tried everything listed in those two posts, also the post where they said they managed to attain root through fastboot confused me. From what i understood fastboot needs root to be able to operate, otherwise the steps in the post about using adb i just keep running into permission issues where i cant mount anything to root it.
I had trouble myself, but figured it out. I recompiled all the files posted by RFE.

thank you for the quick response, but see the issue i was having is that fastboot is installed through the adb, yet i cant get it to recognize my device. but again thanks for the quick reply but one last thing this recovery.img is it a pre rooted image?

not yet i am going to try again in a bit here though, still running into issues where fastboot will not recognize the device. im guessing a driver issue, except not sure why they wont work.

ok so i got to where i need to use the actual flash command but it returns a error " cannot determine image filename for 'recover.img' "

If anyone else would like to contribute please do. I've had 5 attempts at registering this type of device without triggering a call-home. I've swapped out 90% of all the components that brand the phone AT&T (including huawei-hardware-extensions & mobile phone "care"??). When using Titanium Backup you will notice that some of the specially protected APK files cannot be removed or "found" - you will get the message "APK file not found." The only way to get around this is to use fastboot and pull the file from the device before removing it. If you remove the wrong system APK your phone won't be bricked, but it will give you infinite android.acore force close loops and other nasty crippling bugs (such as no touch-keys backlight). If you want to be sure that you are not doing any damage, do a full reboot and cache clear after uninstalling any of the AT&T prepaid system components. Many of the system components can not be removed or replaced with other versions until their dependencies are replaced or removed as well. Titanium Backup once again comes in handy and lets you select an android ID or "profile" which is a UID that is tied to your Google Play / Android Market account. You will have to create a new random Android ID after you have have replaced all the apps. Make sure you remove any files like Twitter that have been specially made for this phone & include a long unique ID like Twitter-3-6-0-(123456)--00000_V300_001.APK - the phone is incredibly fast without any google or ATT stuff on it.
1. you have to be rooted and on STOCK ZV9. the easiest way in my option is to lgnpst. here is a guide http://pastebin.com/g8hXBaaA

2. you need to root v9 with this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2050582
3. you need to download the update zip and rename it update.zip. http://d-h.st/0a9
4. you need to move update.zip to /cache using a file explorer (this is why you need root)
5. reboot into stock recovery. get into stock recovery by holding vol down+ home button+ power button until captive lights flash then release.
for some people programs such as romtoolbox's rebooter works and for others it doesnt but you can try.
6. choose "apply update from cache." then "update.zip"
7. you are now running JB.
8. restore root by using root keeper
9. if you want to reroot use the same method for zv9 above

so i made an actual guide because i did this in the car since kc removed his at the time.

Noob Question about this guide
First of all, thank you all for what you do for the Android community
I am obviously a noob, so please bear with me.
I recently used engine95's guide to root and unlock my Sprint LG Optimus G. It was simple and worked perfectly. I have not yet had a chance to attempt flashing any rom's and just noticed that I can actually have Jelly Bean now. So, I am rooted and unlocked. I have recently downloaded Titanium Backup, FreeGee, ROM Manager, Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper, and ES File Explorer. I chose TWRP during the unlock procedure with FreeGee. I am now running Titanium Backup on everything (seems to be stuck at 96% with YouTube).
I am about to run through javskies guide to flashing JB (this guide just made more sense to me). I am hoping Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper will keep me from having to root again after the update, but if not, I think I can handle rooting again.
My main questions are:
1) I noticed something in another post about uninstalling FreeGee due to its current incompatibility with JB. Is this correct?
2) Looking at step 4 of javskies guide

, I noticed that I do not see a file named 'cache' either when using ES File Explorer or Windows Explorer. (I haven't figured out how to paste a screenshot into a post, so I attached a JPEG screenshot.)

Cache is a folder in the root directory. That is the very bottom of directories. If your rooted you will see it. Put the file there.
And freegee is not compatible for the jelly bean update. So, you are correct to remove it. It will cause a soft brick.
The app is safe just sitting there. But if you run it after the update you will have problems. So, I would remove it for now. Out of sight, out of mind.
Part of the steps to fix the soft brick will be too format the whole phone. So, remove it. The creator of the app is a very active member here on xda. He is working on a fix. Just check back on xda. We will all know when it is fixed.
And it doesn't bother me what guide you use. If you read the bottom of my guide it is basically the same as this one.
I am not a hater. I like to help everyone. There is no competition.
The update process is confusing for new people. There is no way around it. Just follow the steps and you will be fine.

Also just a heads up, after u download esfile explorer, u need to go to settings and way towards the bottom there r root settings. Make sure u have the appropriate options checked so u can back out of your sdcard folder. Super user will ask u to grant permission once u check the first option. Grant it. That way u can get to that cache folder that you need.

Make sure you clicked both folder icons at the bottom of the window. If you used the automatic one you should be able to pick the ls970 dll and the second one is the for the .tot you downloaded

Finally got the downloaded zip file to the cache folder. Rebooting to recovery takes me to TWRP. Install failed. Is it because I am unlocked? Do I need to return to stock and re-root?

This guide worked well for me - I'm now ZVB stock rooted (not unlocked but do have FreeGee bought and installed). The hardest part was getting recovery to boot

No problem. This guide is now pretty much just for people in your situation since we have stock roms and the otas so not many are really going to need it. I'm very glad it helped you out and it sucks to hear that shelnutt couldn't help your situation :/

Actually, shelnutt had a way but he said there was also a risk of bricking my phone. I told him I couldnt because I dont have insurance nor do I have a backup phone. I will do it his way within time once I can get a backup phone. Hopefully, within two months.
He also said there were many people in the same situation that can't unlock phone. He's also trying to find the problem and work out a solution in the future.

Posting here since XDA forum said I should post questions and such here instead of the [OTA][TWRP] ZVA to ZVC modified OTA thread.
I am running ZVA (rooted) on my Sprint LG G2, I got TWRP 2.6.3.3 up and running, but when I run the modified zip file, TWPR fails on the first pass of the zip file with the following error:

"/system/app/Books.apk" has unexpected contents
I have the Books.apk file in the appropriate folder, not sure how to address this issue though. Any suggestions? I would rather not have to use the TOT if I don't have to.

For that zip to work you must have been just stock rooted with custom recovery. -ie NO CHANGES AT ALL TO SYSTEM, cant be deodex or anything, pure stock.

But I've searched all over and I can't find the solution.
I'm trying to root a completely stock LG G2 using terminal and the LG has the most recent OTA SVC. When using ioroot25.zip there is no option for ZVC only ZVA, ZV8 & ZV7. Is there anyway to root without downgrading? If so could someone please point me in the right direction? And if not how can I downgrade to ZVA?

I'm sorry. You said your on most recent which is zvc.
I'm there also, I have used ioroot25, no problem in root. Download unzip. Attach phone in charge mode, airplane mode. USB debugging on.
Ioroot25 folder, click root.
Press enter, system reboots into stock recovery, volume down to adb install. Press power button.
Press enter keyboard
And again. Computer is done.
Watch phone. It goes back to menu to reboot. Phone is rooted.

It's been forever since I've had an android and I have just gotten this phone. Coming from years of being an iPhone user. What recovery is the easiest to use? How do I install? I tried to youtube this already and had no luck. Also, I'm unable to put files on the sd card via Android File Manager. Any help is appreciated, thank you.

Hello all.
I have been trying to root our kfhd89 and keep running in to errors while rooting.
Sometimes get an error about insufficient space on the device to push certain files or the whole procedure finishes but with no root access..
I have tried option 1 in z root and option 3. I've tried various methods (from the tutorials on here) to no avail.
Sometimes I get to the slow (broken lock screen) stage but can go no further regarding flashing 2nd BL/recovery.
Please help I'm going nuts here lol

The issue is bloatware that got added to the factory set. It is recommended to delete officesuite.apk to make room.
I don't have the link handy, but if you search the forums there are some options to add these commands to the bin4ry script. It worked for me on 8.5.1.

Hi thanks. I have managed to root it now but cannot flash a recovery img file (like twrp) it just won't do it. I've tried 4 or 5th different methods but no luck
Read the post about how to install TWRP 2.7.0 under the developers forum for the 8.9. It worked on mine with rooted 8.5.1. There is also a nice YouTube video showing how to do the fire flash.

Yes mate I've tried ALL the guides and like I said none of them work, the cmd prompt itself cant write or send the . Img file over but doesn't say why. I've been rooting phones since my Samsung omnia so I'm not an amature with this sort of thing.
As part of the root process, you likely needed to delete some bloatware files, such as officesuite.apk. If not, then you still may not have enough space to do the bootloader process. Which files did you clean out?
