video playback - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

what kind video does nexus play? I tried a avi file, it days there is a problem playing the file, would not open.

I'm wondering this as well. I have all my movies ripped as avi and wanted to put one movie on my device just in case I'm somewhere I can't stream. Apparently takes MP4, H.264, H.263 so we'll have to re-rip for the wider screen. I bought DVD Catalyst 4 for ~$10.

I use mx video player to play avi&wmv files. You have to use the software setting to play the videos correctly.

DICE Player for me, works 100% for everything I throw at it.

dice player is for trial 3 days.
rock player lite works. I tried avi, flv, both playing fine.
I could not find the menu in mx player.
why default built in video player can't play any video?

Is there solution to the problem with films of HTC HD?

Ultimately, what is the best video player for the HTC HD now?
Problem as the phone was out that the core player play good films, but does not support all audio codecs (it is a film without sound) and does not support subtitles.
Free version of TCPMP do play all movies whit sound and subtitles, but movies go very slowly rather than smooth.
So my question is, since my information is from 4-5 months before, are there any new development on the subject. Is there a player who goes smoothly converted video and subtitles supported?
If there is such a miracle, I'll be happy to drop a link?
What is the latest version of core player and are solved the problems there?
Latest version was 1.3 I reckon. They plan on introducing AC3 audio codec support which is the most widely used audio codec for ripped movies etc in a 1.5.x version.
But yeah, Coreplayer is at the moment still the most top notch player imo.
This is a list of the supported audio and video codecs:
Audio : MP3, MP2, AAC, MKA, WMA, Midi*, WAV, OGG, Speex, WAVPACK, TTA, FLAC, MPC, AMR, ADPCM, ALaw, MuLaw, G.729, GSM
Video: H.264 (AVC), AVCHD, MKV, MPEG-1, MPEG-4 part 2 (ASP), DivX, XviD, WMV*, Theora*, Dirac*, MJPEG, MSVIDEO1
Another Coreplayer user here!
Works great for me.

It all depends how you encode the video files... I can play a whole movie without any lag.
yes, but I want to play unconverted video..
The main reason why I use coreplayer is because it can play unconverted video, I have too much video to even be coverted and it's generally just too much of a hassle to me. You can't watch a 4.7 gig dvd unconverted if that's what you mean but dvd ripped avi filea from like 700 mb play without any lag at all using coreplayer.

so, can you play 720P .mkv (AC3) videos?

Ive tried Mobo Player, MX Video Player, Dice Player, Daroon Player and each time it crashes my Nexus and i have to do a battery pull.
I know the files are fine because i copied them over from my Rezound and they played just fine on that phone.... and yes, i saw the other thread but there wasnt a conclusion to that one.

Video Choppy when playing 720p Anime

So, I've been trying to play 720p Anime lately but the videos are really choppy and the audio ends up desyncing because of the lag. I've tried Dice player and MX player.
The video is h264, with AAC audio in a MKV format. About 300 MB for a 23 minute episode.
(If you're interested in the anime, it's sword art online 720p. Watch it! It's a great anime)
Anyways. I never had this problem with shows/movies that are 720p + h264. I'm wondering if anyone else experiences this when playing anime.
I've demuxed the container into a mp4 container, but the video still lags. =( so it's not MKV's fault.

[Q] Player for Blu ray rip MKVs

Hello everyone, i have Blu ray rip mkv (from 20-40gb each mkv) in my usb hdd, when i play it on my Galaxy note 2 the video runs fine but without audio and when the video starts a msg appear at the bottom says something about only video is playing. I have MX player pro, PlayerPro, Real Player and i tried on all of them and on defualt video player as well. The funny thing is the tv series episodes like vampire diaries, mentalist, big bang theory i download in 720p rip mkv(from 900mb to 1.5gb) it runs perfectly. try bsplayer.
I tried all the apps you mentioned with no luck. Bsplayer can play everything i got in my video library.
ok I will, Thanks.
I use dice player. It's played anything I've thrown at it so far and it has a pop up feature as well.
With MX Player Pro try going into settings and changing it from H/W to S/W.. That's what I use and everything I watched plays just fine
bs player handsdown. i tried them all, non of them would play DTS audio mkv file except bs player. unfortunately, stock samsung has better video quality but no sound lol
Actually the stock player should be able to handle them.
I have mx player installed and bs player also.
One thing that bs player has that others don't, playing videos over a Windows share. You can play music videos back to back without needing to select the next song.

Both myself and my brother have played mkv files on our devices with no issues. I have the note II and he has an s III .... not sure what the issue is you are having but I don't think it is the video player... I use stock, so does he.
+1 for BSPlayer, also consider Archos with the additional Codec Add-on
I've found that on my version of the Note II, MXPlayer Pro, the default Video Player, IMToo, all did not work because of the lack of an AC3 codec.
The ones that worked were:
- Archos Video Player (with the Codec Add-On installed)
- BSPlayer
- VLC, however does not play .m4v files
- XBMC, however lags on playback
In the end it was between Archos and BSPlayer. The Archos Player has a better UI along with the ability to bookmark within the video. BSPlayer has the capability of resizing the video to any size, and locking the aspect ratio on-screen. It also connects to opensubs.org to download external subs on the fly, if needed.
Being an XBMC / OpenELEC user, since I'm comfortable with the interface and the plug-in system, I'm hoping that it will be optimized for Android in the future. When that day comes, I will switch back to XBMC. But for now, I flip back between Archos and BS Player.
Thanks for your help guys, my problem is solved

[Q] AVi XVID won't play on Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0?

I have a bunch of AVI files. I never had a problem playing these on any device and then I recently got a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 and found out that half of these will not play (no video or audio). I tried Vplayer, Mxplayer, QQplayer, archos player, and several others along with the built in player.
The files that seem to play correctly have the following settings.
Type: video
Codex M-PEG-4 Video (XVID)
Res: 640x272
frame rate: 23.976043
Decoded format: Planar 4:2:0 YUV
Stream1:
Type: Audio
Code: MPEG Audio Layer 1/2/3 (mpga)
Channel: Stereo
Sample Rate: 48000 Hz
Bitrate: 128 kb/s
The files that don't play seem to have some sort of difference such as XVID video, but AC3 audio, or 640x428 res instead of 640x272, 44hz mp3 audio instead of 48000hz or I also tried to convert an AVI to MP4 with aac audio and that would not play either. I have watched these sort of files for years with no issue on windows based computers, ipad, set top media players etc. Any help is appreciated. I really don't want to have to convert video's every time. I will this time if that's the only way.

I just noticed standard MKV and MP4 downloaded from the net, seems to play fine but even when I covert AVI XVID to one of these other formats it won't work.
