+1 A transparent status bar really increases the screen real estate. I had this on my evo4g(trans. top & bottom).
A semi transparent notification screen would be cool too!
i know its not what you are looking for, but you could use ADW EX or some launcher like that to just hide the status bar for now till the option is available. ADW EX works pretty nice cuz you can use a gesture to hide and show the status bar for when you want to see it.
Yes, I recently did the modification for ogdobber. There are xml changes as well as some new code edits than need to be performed.
I thought he was going to make a post about it somewhere (maybe I just didn't see it)

I completely agree, if anything, I would like to know how to do this more than the transparent notification bar!

This is using modaco's deodexed SystemUI. Flash this zip in recovery:
TransparentStatusbar-GNex_MCR-signed.zip
In this apk, I've added a statusbar_background.9.png in the drawable-xhdpi folder. For those who wish to change the opacity level, you can alter that png (just make sure you don't disturb the 9 patch lines). There's still some experimenting I'd like to do, particularly with large screen devices, to make sure it's thoroughly integrated correctly, but this is decent for now.
As far as instructions, I'll have to cover those instructions later when I have a some time to make a thorough post.

If its a stock Deodexed ROM then yes it will as it will run on a similar framework. If its not deodexed then you will get bootloops.

Status bar, not notification pull down. I've already gotten the notification working, as it was just a standard png edit.
Anyway, is there anyone that can give an explanation on how I can get my status bar to be transparent? I've already gotten the proper image from system/app/SystemUI.apk. I edited it and saved it properly for transparency. Where I'm getting stuck is the whole draw 9 thing, since the image is a ".9.png" file. I've already opened the png in the draw 9 patch tool in the SDK, but I'm just totally stuck at this point.
I sort of understand the deal with drawing black lines on the right and the bottom for the content areas, then the two dots on the top and left for the stretchable areas. But after I save the file, I'm still seeing the drawn black lines in the image. Am I not doing something right? After I get that sorted, how do I go about resigning the apk to push it to my device?
You'll need to run Eclipse, this tutorial helped me with draw nines. Once you put them thru Eclipse, the lines will disappear. Then you can extract them from the unsigned apk like the video states, use 7zip to put the images back into your framework-res.apk or whatever without having to resign anything.

I'm a rom-whore, and I'm damn proud of it
Edit: Nevermind, I'm editing the right file. I just did a test and made it completely red and it worked. But, for some reason transparency is not working at all, it just keeps appearing solid black.
I believe it's in services.jar if I'm not mistaken. Or so that's what I had heard. I haven't messed with it myself.

Yeah, I've tried about everything I can think of. If you get something put together, I might figure out how to put together a flashable zip of a transparent or semi-transparent status bar and pull down for stock CM7 theme.

Sent you a PM.
The actual image is in SystemUI.apk. But it won't render transparent without an xml our services.jar hack. It's a pain in the ass. Also if you actually make it transparent you are going to have problems with text and image stacking when you pull down down notifications. I just replace the image in SystemUI.apk with a 480x38 top part of my wallpaper.

Indeed that does work. Now, if I could only get that transparency to work with the original CM7 theme. I'm not a fan of all the extra theming stuff that particular patch adds. Thank you though.

trying to download this but i get bombarded with window advertisements. and then it saids your download is starting and just stays stuck on there.
Evening folks,
UPDATE 4:
I tried to create a theme based on the buttons in v1, but unfortunately they just didn't look right/nice when adding the 9 patch to them. They were getting stretched and looked a bit amateurish.....actually they looked very amateurish in some places mainly due to the shape despite my best efforts.
Anyway I've come up with some new glowing glass buttons(v2), actually i came up with these trying to make the buttons in "Phone Candy" look better.
I've tried to make these look "rounded" and a little bit different, hopefully you''ll like them just as much as the others.
I've only themed the "dialer" and some icons.
UPDATE:
I've changed the images to look more "clean and tidy".
UPDATE 2:
Added more colours.
UPDATE 3:
Added a zip to the bottom of this post containing some updated images
If you look carefully at buttons 1, 2, and 3 at the top, you will see a ghost image at the back... scary!!.
Anyway, in my bid for perfection I've fixed them.
If you want to apply them Simply:
Download the "Glowing contacts update" zip,
Open it with 7zip
Open the universal theme zip
Navigate to system/app/contacts/res/drawable-hdpi and drag and drop the images from the update zip
Close up and flash
The zip is attached at the bottom of this post.
UPDATE 5:
Updated v1.2 to v1.3: includes updated images.
UPDATE 6:
v2 includes new colours.
v1 is loosely based on the glass dock from launcher pro.

good work, however glass themes feel very dated to me and there is already plenty these around. I would have a rethink and try something radically different to everyone else.
So I've been trying something, but with no success at all... maybe someone who knows his way around xmls better can help me...
I'm using CheckROM RevoHD v4 , and Vert's ICS Domination theme over it. What i would really like is to have a transparent statusbar...
What I tried so far :
- extracted SystemUI.apk and framework-res.apk from CheckROM zip and then
used zdune's patcher to get flashable zips.
This obviously didn't work because the apks currently in my rom are modified by
Vert's theming
- So i used rootBrowser to get those two files from the system folder on my
phone since obviously they are the updated ones, so i tried to patch those two
but to no avail , it didn't work
In both cases when i flash it i completely lose the status bar and the notifications , i.e. no way to open them.
Zdune's patcher may only work with CM7 based roms , I'm not sure if it even works with TW Roms at all.
So if anyone knows what I may be missing , or knows another way I can get it transparent , please tell me. I'm really not quitting until i get it the way i want.
Edit : Opened a thread because no-one replied on my post in Vert's theme thread

You can edit the statusbar.XML to point to a PNG. That's the easy part and offcourse the smali edit to make it transparent.
You can then use adw launcher and remove the wallpaper hack to make the statusbar transparent. But it does not work as expected, atleast for me. There is also the problem of notifications overlapping over the date.
In miui when you drop down the notification bar, the status bar does not stay transparent anymore. It points to another png.

Let me see regarding moving the date down.
What up my fellow XDA buddies. I take no credit for this. I didnt create VRTheme nor did I make the black image. I just put it together so every ROM and GSM/LTE can use it. I didnt want to post this in the thread at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1588613 as he already had so much going on. Thought this would make it easier.

I made a similar thread a while back but used a MetaMorph/ZipThemer zip.
You should make a VRTheme zip using arzbhatia's image and give it to him to post in his thread, save him the trouble of making a zip for every ROM.
Thought it was the same image. That is why I made this thread. I linked it in the first post. I will download his to see what img he used and make one with that. thanks for the heads up
I just checked his, mine is a solid black. His is not. I didnt realize he removed the lines. I will just wait for him to tell me what he did to remove those (I am no dev what so ever) and then I will create a VRTheme with that. VRtheme is pretty simple. Same lines like metamorph/zipthemer but better I think. No app needed.

He edited the stock gradient grey background image. You can pull it from the apk in one of his zips.

I looked at his zip. Do you know what other img or file he edited to make the lines removed? If you look at my img, there is no lines but when you use it, there are still lines in the settings. Its solid black though. His is not. Mine also makes all settings for apps and what not that had the gradient no longer have it. It will be solid black.

Ya, thats the one I already replaced wiht a solid black. Im trying to figure out how he removed the lines as ppl have been saying. If you flash mine on top of his, it should give you a solid black with no lines.

So you don't think he took the background_holo_dark.png that came with stock ICS and just used Photoshop to touch it up? In stock ICS, isn't that image file the gray gradient that your black image replaces?

Hey Guys,
I found a nice mod for us in the S2 forums, and ported it to our S4.
7 or 6 lockscreen app shortcuts in your lockscreen, instead of max 5..
When you select 6 lockscreen app shortcuts in settings(See screenshot 1), your lockscreen will look like in screenshot 2:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
-->
When you select 7 lockscreen app shortcuts in settings(See screenshot 3), your lockscreen will look like in screenshot 4:
-->
I like it, maybe some of you guys also!
This mod needs some changes(xml and smali changes) to both SecSettings.apk and Framework-res.
Some people use a theme. When you use a theme, most of the times framework-res is themed.
This means that when you flash this mod, and you use a theme, you will lose the theme..
Also when you use 3 minit framework, you should not flash this zip, because 3minit uses its own secsettings.apk, which would be overwritten.
I made a special one for 3 minit, I myselve am a happy user, but will wait with posting that one, because Gary might just not like that...
All credits for this mod go to my old friend from the S2, Mirko ddd, who made this possible for the S2.
See this topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2072232
I just ported it to the S4.
It's an easy mod by the way, not a big deal.
But I did put quite some effort in it to finetune it for our device.
In this post I modded framework-res + secsettings.apk from WanamRom MF4.
But it will work on MF2/MF4/MF8 like the title says.
Here's the downloadlink for CWM flashable zip:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/25779832/MF2-MF4-MF8 7 apps lockscreen.zip
How to restore?
Easy way is to flash your Rom again, no wipe.
Have fun!
PS: In the screenshots you see transparent background. That is not included in the above flashzip, I just provide you with stock Wanam files with the mod in it.
If you do want the transparency like in the screenshots, I can also providee you with that.

Gimme your MEA white settings.apk and framework-res, then perhaps I'll do you a one-time-favour:silly:
Thanks a lot man! Here is the one I use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2330361
Sorry I only gave the link Im sure a lot of people will also benefit from this. More power!

Ok my man, listen. I downloaded the theme you linked me to, and had a look. It contained a secsettings.apk, but not a framework-res, so your current framework is most liked not themed at the moment.
I modded the secsettings.apk from the white theme. Second your framework needs to be modded to make possible the 7 apps lockscreen.
Like I said, the theme didn't contain a framework, and I don't have a mea framework-res. And I don't want to download a 1.4GB Rom to get it...
Give it a try with a modded MF4 framework.
I tried, and it worked good for me. Settings and other background are white. Almost everywhere. Not really my taste, lol. And the 7 lockscreen apps mod worked great.
So this flashable zip contains the modded white themed settings.apk and the MF4 framework.
NOT the complete white theme.
So first flash the white theme if your not yet using it, and then flash my zip.
Not the other way around!:silly:
Downloadlink flashable zip: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/25779832/White theme 7apps LockScreen.zip
Please let me know if it works, so I can update post 1 with it.
Good luck
good job mate can't wait for the 3Minit Framework version
PS
I have edited the tags for your thread below for an ease in searching for users :good:

Thanks! I have it ready for 3minit Framework already. I can pm it to you if you want...
I also built in a MIUI BatteryBar in 3Minit systemui and secsettings.apk.
You control the MIUI BatteryBar via your settingsmenu.
If you want, you can have that also. So it's an all-in-one mod...
Just let me know
Ok guys, I allways liked the MIUI Battery bar, the stripe at the top of your screen that indicates how full your battery is..
So I tried to build that into SystemUI, and wanted it to be controlled from the settingsmenu..
Looks quite nice!
The batterybar is difficult to see on a screenshot though:
2 files are affected by this mod, systemui en secsettings.apk.
The 7 lockscreenapps mod from post 1 needed modding of secsettings also, so I used that secsetting.apk to combine the two mods.
Mayor thanks to xda dev PVY, who gave the inspiration to do this, see his thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1371330
Do not flash this zip if you use a theme or use a mod like 3minit!
The files in my zip will overwrite 3minit settings.apk and systemui!
The files in this zip(settings.apk, systemui, framework-res) are based on Rom version MF4 from WanamLite, but will also work on MF2 and MF8!
Downloadlink CWM flashable zip:

Hey guys,
I've added the ability to enable INK effect on the lockscreen, thanks to the guide @grgsiocl provided me with! See his thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2273955
Making a screenshot of the ink effect is not possible
This is a combined mod, so you'll also have the ability to select upto 7 app-shortcuts for your lockscreen...
This mod also includes the Miui Batterybar...
Works on MF2/MF4/MF8
If you use a theme, possibly you will loose some of it after flashing this zip. Files are based on stock Wanam and unthemed.
Same for 3Minit like I explained before...

Yes I have it ready with 3minit, using it myselve, but don't want to share his mods with my mods in it, if you know what I mean. He didn't give me permission to use his files and post them here...
Sorry!

You' re wrong. This is the max effect possible. I would also like more ink, but this is the build in ink effect... Setting a lighter wallpaper makes a huge difference though...
