My phone keeps re-initialising the launcher - Desire General

I am using the Leedroid 2.5 sense ROM on a rooted Desire and have been for a long time.
I've had the problem of the phone being sluggish for a long time, and the launcher re-initialising when I'm in an app and close that app.
It used to be far between, and I thought it was just due a reboot, but now-a-days it does it all the time. I could pick it up in the morning, open an app, close that app and it would do it. Then half an hour later it would do it again.
Sometimes it holds on for longer, it varies, but it's a real problem.
I use "Quick App Manager" and "SD Maid" to clear cache pretty often, which removes all sluggishness, but it doesn't seem to affect the whole launcher needing a reboot, which is becoming worse and worse.
What is causing this problem, and how come it's becoming worse?

I can wipe the dalvik cache with the option "Wipe Dalvik Cache" but where do I wipe the "normal" cache you refer to?
Is it "wipe cache partition"?

[Q] How to clear cache after RM apk in Clockwork Recovery

So I've removed some apps thru ADB SHELL and I was informed that it's best to clear cache in Recovery as well. The question is, which option do I select? When I'm in Clockwork Recovery I see two options:
Wipe Cache Partition
or
Wipe Dalvik Cache
Which one am I supposed to select?
Well I decided to go with "Wipe Cache Partition" - not sure if that was the right one but from searching the net it seems like that was the right option - if not then i guess y'all will let me know
Even if u delete all of dalvik system will recompile it upon reboot. If I want fresh slate without a wipe I format both cache and dalvik. Doesn't matter they all rebuild.

Wipe cache only in ROM Manager

Why isn't wiping cache only an option in ROM Manager? Isn't this recommended when flashing ROM upgrades of the same ROM?
Just do it through the recovery. Rom manager is quite buggy when it comes to that stuff.
I'm flashing a new kernel. When you are in recovery to wipe cache and davlik-cache, do you select wipe cache partition? After that screen it just says "Area you sure" with a bunch of no options. When will i see the davlik-cache option?

[Q] About cache.

Hi all,
Somebody can tell me what are the results or issues when you wipe the different caches.
Because on the tutorials, they speak about "wipe cache", "wipe all", "wipe dalvick" and finally when I upgrade or install a new rom to avoid problem, I wipe data, partition an dalvick to avoid problem.
For a new rom, I can understand you need reinstall you apps.
But it's annoying when you update some rom.
Finally, the question is whose cache can be hold or wipe to avoid lost of installed apps and data when you update a rom.
Thanks for your answers.
Fred.
When people say Wipe cache or wipe dalvik, they mean wipe dalvik-cache. However if you wipe data, since dalvik-cache is in /data anyway, it also wipes dalvik cache.
Its wiping data that deletes apps and this is required as data and settings are more often than not, incompatible between different roms.
Its not a big deal if you backup with titanium backlup though and use the restore option "Missing apps with data"
Use sms backup+ or something to backup messages, then you just need to do your system settings again.
who can explain me how I can see where is my cache? on SD or phone...
For what do you need to know this?

Dalvik cache clearing problem

I'm trying out a few ROMs today but now I think I cannot clear the dalvik cache.
In recovery, when I go to advanced -> wipe dalvik cache it says
E:unknown volume for path [/sd-ext]
I still get to choose "Confirm wipe? No No No.... Yes - Wipe Dalvik Cache" but I'm starting to think this has something to do with some ROMs not working (properly). Anyone knows how to get around this? Thanks!
I think there is a function for it in Titanium Backup. Sorry if it's not exactly what you're looking for.
Thanks I'll try that, do I need titanium backup pro for that?
I've got a relatively stable ROM now so I'll try it later when I have more time.

do it again and it wont say the E:unknown path thing... at least mine doesn't...
Or you could always do it manually. ES File Explorer is a good app. Dalvik cache is safe to remove because the only thing that can happen to you is that it will be created again. Also, the pro version of Titanium backup (that, in my humble opinion, is absolutely worth the money) has functions like integrate dalvik to rom and undo the integration, which do come in handy if you're changing roms and tweaking them up.
you clean it directly by link2sd...there is the specific option

Full wipe: Format data, cache, dalvik cache. It does not touch your SDcard data.
Edit: Usually people also Wipe Battery Stats. I found it unnecessary so I forgot to include. It may also involve formatting your SDcard if you have funky stuffs in there. (apps2SD for example)
If you use ClockwordMod, for example, you would have to choose Format data/factory, then Advanced => Wipe Dalvik Cache and Wipe Battery Stats
Super wipe:
Fallen Spartan said:
Basically it does the following:
1) Call erase_image on CACHE, SYSTEM, USERDATA, and BOOT partitions
2) Mount /sd-ext (if it exists) and delete all files from it
3) Delete all files in the /sdcard/.android_secure directory which is where all the froyo apps2sd files live
4) Run e2fsck (file system repair) on the your ext partition
5) Log all output to the /tmp/wipe.log file (if you care)
You will need to power off and reboot back into recovery after running this to install a new rom....as you won't have one on device
If you forget and try to boot normally you will get stuck at splash screen, then you will have to pull battery to power off.

To super wipe you often need a zip file and flash it in recovery. Example:

an added note
fastboot wipe is still the cleanest wipe
<fastboot -w>
i tend to over kill so do fastboot wipe first
then boot into recovery and do a factory reset and wipe cache, dalvik cache again
then do a superwipe.
sounds like over kill? well it keeps me from having issues when changing roms - i change often so these 3minutes spent save me lots of time later
