apk files from android market - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way to download apk files from the market directly on to your pc? I dont have wi-fi at home and i dont have an unlimited data package on my XPlay so the data charges to download things from the market is quite expensive. It would certainly make life easier if I could just transfer the apk's via usb

No, nothing official at least

Not officially no, but illegally yes. i wouldn't go into details here as it can you banned though.
but at the moment no you can't google assumes we all have wi-fi and if apps were offline available it might lead to piracy on paid apps
Why don't you go to a mates house and downloads apps or school/college/uni or a library, or a wi-fi enabled internet cafe

I think thats what im gonna have to do. Either that or buy a wireless router :/ I might do a bit of research on some of these "frowned upon" methods of doing it first though

If you don't want a proper wifi network why don't you just get a USB wifi dongle for your PC and share the internet connection to your phone. If you're PC already has wifi built in as most do you don't need to buy anything.

Hi,
you can download a few free apps over here - apkmarket.de
just copy the file on sdcard & install it with a filemanager on your device ;-)
cheers,

Tut Tut Tut that's illegal and it can get you banned from xda
I think

Why is this illegal? I can't find any paid apps on this site..
Dont think it is if there just free downloadable applications
correct me if i'm wrong

Best place for free apps is getjar.com. They have a section called "gold apps" too. With there gold apps, they have done deals with the app devs to provide you selected paid apps for free.

there is a method to get .apk from the android market (http://market.android.com). But just a disclaimer, this doesn't apply to every app on the market.
Just click the app author's name and it will show you the list of other apps the author has on the market. On that page, there is a link saying "visit website for <author>", follow that link. If the author has his website tied directly to sites.google.com, at the bottom of that page there are options to download the .apk of his apps directly to your PC. Of course this mostly happens to apps which are free to begin with.
But just in case, you can also try going to the author's official website and check if they offer their apps as direct .apk download. HTH

if you know the application name, just add .apk to the application name and try to download it from 4shared.com. you will find most of the Apps, but to be true, that will not be as great as access to Market. Here in Dubai,we have access to only FREE apps in the market, but where as i travel to India, i can purchase apps from Market. so try moving to another country
Good Luck.

Crash Bandicoot Files

Does anybody know the name of any file name for the game that is downloaded to the sd card?
Why? Well, when cleaning up my sd card, I copied all game data I had to my pc (including filepaths and everything, to know exactly where to put it back).
For some reason I can't find it on my pc. I just need something to search for. If not I'll just download the files again. I don't want any illegal files or links or anything, just any searchable file name to see of it is still there.

Possibly. I know that's where most data is stored. Some games are in a game folder. I don't know where I copied it to my pc though. I've found most of what I copied and, for some reason, they're in completely different places. I can't find where I put the Crash files though.
They're either gone (or I didn't copy them before formatting my sd card) or in a folder I can't find. I just need a specific file name to search my pc for. I can't get the download via 3g trick to work again, so can't download til I connect to WiFi (which I'm never connected long enough to do so).
Sent from my R800i using XDA
Or were the files for this already on the sd card? Can't remember.
Sent from my R800i using XDA
/sdcard/Android/data/
then the Crash Bandicoot data is:
com.sony.playstation.NCUA94900_1
That's for me at least.
Thanks. I think I remember now, I formatted without backing it up. I might download it again; I might not. I'm not a big gamer, just wanted to give it a try.

Excuse me, but quoting Wikipedia:
"Warez refers primarily to copyrighted works distributed without fees or royalties, and may be traded, in general violation of copyright law. The term generally refers to unauthorized releases by organized groups, as opposed to file sharing between friends or large groups of people with similar interest using a darknet."
It can't be warez because he already paid for the game when he bough his phone, so he didn't avoid paying fees or royalties.

Buddy use your logic. If you bought and Xperia PLAY and I bought a Xperia PLAY, then we both pay for Crash Bandicoot game and for any other file installed in the phone. You are legally entitled to make ANY backup for the software you bought with your hardware, in fact you are legally entitled to protect your hardware any way you considered fitting. If for any reasong you didn't do a backup what happens?, you lost any right over your property?. That's stupid, it's like saying you bought a house and because you didn't buy an insurance you are no longer owner of your house when you broke a door.
If your lost your backup why I can't give you mine if we bought the same product?. The only way to call this piracy is if the file hash from your file is different than mine.
Considering that here are FTF files, and those files can be extracted into sin files, and sin files can be unpacked, aaaaaand unpackaged files can be used in any way... basically that's piracy because a Motorola user can download a FTF file, extract system.sin, unpack it's contents and add any apk to his phone without paying for it.
XDA is just covering their asses... in a not so good way.
Now, you can say whatever you want, but this is NOT exactly piracy/warez. In fact, if you search for it, you will find Crash Bandicoot apk several times.
if you link warez I will report. also this forum is public meaning people who didn't pay for it such as other phone users can download it aswell making it warez

Go ahead, report this post, and by the way report all posts where FTF files are post, and all posts where people ALREADY post their crash bandicoot apk...
I will not post anything, no because of your silly threat but because all apks related to PlayStation Suite need to be paired with SD card data, so he will not do anything with my apk without my sd data.
I'm pretty certain that the OP was able to solve his/her problem....what happened here is that a new user necroed a thread (this seems to be happening ALOT recently) asking for files that are in ftfs already.....

Google play denies downloading app

I bought Tivizen WIFI for Samsung device hoping that I'll have no problem using it with my SIII, as I've seen the video on youtube with exact hardware combination working. However it appears that I cannot download the app (normal Tivizen app doesn't recognize the device - I need "Tivizen wifi for Samsung phone" ) from my country. How is store establishing the country (phone location, gmail account, phone operator, ip address). Would it help if someone installs it elsewhere and extracts apk. Is it difficult? What can I do on my side- reinstall?. Seems foolish to abandon the device for software related restrictions. Please help.

6. Wo kann ich die IMEI Nummer und Serien Nummer der Samsunggeräte finden, um Tivizen zum Aktionspreis zu erwerben?
Unter der Batterie von Samsung Galaxy Produkten
Does it have to do with this question from the FAQ. To me it looks more like you needed to provide them with you phone's imei to be able to buy the device
Once they've delivered the Tivizen it has no importance (number cannot be used again).
It would mean that no one would be able to download the app unless they come from the verified phone regardless from Germany or not, or every such downloaded APK is related to the phone and checks for specific tivizen SSID?

I dont want to download game date through game

I installed Real Racing 2 on Nexus7. It required me to download addition 400MB data. It's really slow if I accept to download by game. I already downloaded data from Internet, how can I make the game detect this and dont ask me for downloading?
P/S: Sorry mods if I post in wrong topic. I cant find the answer for this in XDA.
You'll have to download the data to play the game. Shadowgun is the same way, as are several other games.

If you have a pc you can try to setup an FTP server there and back it up. I find some games located in /sdcard/Android/data. You can use a es or fx file explrer to copy the files. Theres also a tool called storage analyzer that shows where most data is. Ultimately you can seamlessly mount a linux drive using sshfsAndroid cifs etc and store backups etc there.(becareful not to mount everything because the media manager will try to find everything). Unlimited storage.
Downloading data is the best defense game companies have against pirated, side loaded software.
Just let the game download it's data, and be thankful that you are doing your part to keep pirates at bay.
Sounds like the OP pirated the apk and data off the Internet. He installed the apk but doesn't know where to copy the data to. If that's what it is, his post is against XDA rules.

Pirating software means downloading and installing software from unofficial sources in order to avoid paying.
You have to purchase it from Play Store, it's only $6.99.

Support the game developers. XDA-Developers is a community of such people (developers) so discussing anything about cheating their hardwork contradicts with this forums...
This is internet, you can pirate anything you want and nobody even the people here in XDA can stop you. But don't discuss it here, because this is a community where some people actually make a living off the money they get from selling their software.

That is a bit of a grey area...
It is actually against the law to distribute copyrighted materials other than official means, free or not. This is the basis why Google sent cease and desist letter to Cyanogenmod Team a few years ago, because back then CM team distributed Google apps preincluded in the ROM zip. This is against the law according to Google, who sees the legit distribution of Google apps only via Play Store/Android Market. But then they allowed the devs to distribute Gapps as seperate zip.
I think the rules here in XDA only covers pirating in the means of avoiding payment (because it hurts the developers to do so) but it is allowed to bypass region and device restrictions, if there is no payment obligation.
This is why, here in XDA we see Google Keyboard apks and GEL apks, because they are region and device restricted, but there is no payment obligation to use said apps.
Now back to Asphalt 8... yes it is free to download and free to play, but it still has in-app purchases... so I think it is still not allowed to share it here because it will remove the potential income source for Gameloft. In app purchases will not work on pirated apps, I presume?
