[Q] Xperia Play Rooted, Flashed, but UNLOCK CRASHED mid process. - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey anybody,
My first post and it's a HELP HELP one ~_~ Sorry.
MAIN ISSUE:
Phone won't read any SIM card any more.
SCREW UP PROCESS:
So here is what happened. I went to WOTANSERVER.com and purchased an UNLOCK with their 14.99EU process.
Now I know better, no documentation = fail.
I followed all the instructions for the UNLOCK process, and it all seemed just fine. I got right up to the process where it asked for credits software never crashed or anything. Until now, and what great timing... while flashing my phone.
CULPRIT:
(My stupidity &)X Unlock Tool.exe what what I used.
So it detects the phone, IMEI, then starts "Calcing..." then crashed.
Now the phone does not read ANY SIM card.
What can I do?
I am assuming, if anything that I will have to PAY for the fix. But that's K
Thanks.
... Yes I have read hundreds of threads here, but am unable to locate a fix as of yet.
***** UPDATE ***** Taken from later post ... put here for quicker read.
My Xperia Play r800a. It is working just fine now. So much faster response from the phone now. Boot time is no longer 5 minutes with Rogers.....
HARDWARE: Xperia Play r800a (Rogers Canada)
Read tons of articles on XDA ... I could not locate exact info for issues with unlock procedure or with my issue "NO SIM CARD"
Posted here was shown the solution in these steps
FirmWare I used WotanClient 3
Relock Bootloader I could not perform, I started TP(Testpoint unlock).
FlashTool USEFUL, but did not use to resolve my issue
I read through these, and found that my best solution to fix "NO SIM CARD" error was to run S1tool and perform "Patch SEMCboot" - I know this because it worked.
For flashing the phone I do like Wotanserver.com 's WotanClient, they have many Firmwares (Thank you Wotan).
This post Unlocking 2011 XPERIAs’ Bootloader without losing DRM,actually had all the answers.
Thank you all for your hard work.
Things I found useful & interesting for my Xperia Play r800a
Xperia Play Secret Codes & Menus
Displays IMEI ----> *#06#
Displays Testing Menu ----> *#*#4636#*#* (Phone info. Battery Info, Usage Stats, Wifi Info)
Displays Service Menu ---->*#*#7378423#*#* (Service info...i.e SIM LOCK, Service settings, Service Tests, Customization Settings)

I had the same issue (with my R800i), but after flashing generic UK FW 4.0.A.2.368 with flashtool, relocking my bootloader using flashtool and then a OTA update to the newest FW it fixed the issue.
Btw, it's all for free. Just look it up on xda!
FW: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16769016
Relock Bootloader: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1134334
FlashTool: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1351299

Thank you - KB013.
I will try with North American FW of course, however I have been unable to get FLASHTOOL working. But I will try again.
NVM, I can't relock bootloader, since I did the TESTPOINT unlock method.
Ok Thank you very much.
Using S1tool, performing the patch SEMCboot fixed it!
Yay no more rogers bloat.

What is not working exactly?

im in the same boat m8 exact same thing happened to me a few days ago, with same server been pullin my hair out trying to fix it, will give that ago and see what happens and post back once finished

[Q] Sim Unlocked then Re-locked HELP!

gosh where do i start from.. ok my little brother brought this phone from
a friend and he used hes vodafone sim card which didnt work!
i then inserted my optus sim card which didnt work.. then i followed these steps..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1034087
after my sim card was unlocked i was able to make calls.. 24 hours later it was locked again :S when i try to make a phone call a lady on the phone speaks and says.. "this handset is blocked my the optus network call this 1300 number etc etc"
ok so i been browsing the net for sim unlock tutorials and so on.. and these tut's show me that when a sim card is inserted the phone asks for a Sim network unlock code? the thing is i dont get that option.. my phone boots fine i can download browuse go on facebook flash my rom(which i already did)
but everytime i call out that lady speaks!
i have a SE xperia arc LT15I can anyone help me please?
You posted a link to the unlocking process of the bootloader which has nothing to do with a simlock...as i had some problems with a simlock message appering after installing FreeXperia on mit Xperia Pro i searched the Forums this is something lowlevel and you can't do anything about it aside from get an unlock code when you really have simlock...but since you can actually make a phone call and get a message from your provider i think you should contact them
Bootloader unlocking and SIM unlocking are two separate things.
If you phone was SIM/network unlocked, it is ONCE and PERMANENT. It will not relock.
Contact your carrier.
ok im not going to start other thread now im getting this error
"Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network"
i tried other sim cards too. but i read here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1252019 at post #2
2. Write a Working TA backup from another phone (same model)
3. Restore Security Units.
Thats all, now your phone should boot well but is 90% possible that you dont get Signal so for fix that we need to unlocking.
If this last thing is needed you can refer to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1232033

but the link he posted says "Invalid thread specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the administrator" this is what happened my sony arc was bricked then i unbricked it then started to see the "Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network" error thanks.
here is also a screenshot of my service info..

Really don't know exactly what it does, but generally you don't include this file when you bundle a rom with flashtool, so no harm.

how do i unlock it? That's the whole point of me posting about this.
After i unlock my bootloader, i face this issue. but flashing finished successfully. Sometime it may be a DRM key related item.
Dont flash that file. its simlock data and if you flash it on a phone with different imei then you will kill the phone without any way other than sony service center to fix it.
Don't worry about that, i always get that warning and there was no problem.

I've read this 'simlock.ta' thread with some interest because I have a similar issue myself.. Might you have any suggestions?
In short, my Xperia (Ray) refuses to read my SIM card. In fact, it doesn't even ask me for my PIN number, it just boots as normal but I have no connection to any network. I've tried using the SIM card in another phone and it works fine, therefore the problem is with the phone itself.
I'd recently had my phone network & bootloader unlocked by wotanserver using the test point method - because of this I thought the DRM keys would be fine (e.g. TrackId & Timescape still worked). However, when I was updating from GB .42 to .62 OTA (to flash a GB ROM) my phone bricked! So, I ended up using s1tool to restore the locked bootloader. Then I used flashtool to flash a stock ICS ftf file. It seemed to work (the phone rebooted) but it was then I noticed that the SIM card wasn't being recognised. Also, in the Flashtool log I noticed that a blue line was there saying 'this file is ignored simlock.ta'.
Hard resets & updating with Sony Update Service isn't working and I'm really confused at this stage.
Is my phone screwed for good?
Same Problem with Xperia J

Did you find a solution for your problem?
In reality, I have the same problem with an xperia j (ST26i) , with some differences:
Initial Problem:
- The mobile belongs to my cousin, she updated it with the sony update center to the latest version (JB 4.1.2) and there: problem with the wifi when the sim.
- I got the mobile, and downgrade to the 4.0.4 version, I've tried 4 different versions:
-> ST26i_11.0.A.3.18_Global
-> ST26i_11.0.A.7.5_CE
-> ST26i_11.0.A.3.28_WE
-> St26i_4.0.4_11.0.A.3.28_CE3
I had always the problem with the wifi when the sim plugged.
Finally I've tried also the UNOFFICIAL CM 10, with no success
- I found a solution with the apk wifix manager witch worked with the 28 WE version of the firmware.
But I've continued to search an other solution, and I've remarked that when I flash the rom I always get the Warn: "This file is ignored : simlock.ta "
After some research I get an advice by a member of XDA to rename the file as "preset.ta", AND THERE, it works no warning ... BUT the sim is blocked (not locked) and I have always the message (invalid card).
I've tried to reflash the firmware many times, to relock the bootloader (with appropriate ftf proposed in this forum ), Tried to use the sony update service .. But I have always the same problem (INVALID CARD)
I've also tried to format everything with CWM (system, card, cache) and made a sdcard partition, and NO way.
So, can any body help me with that please?!
Note : I'm in the middle east zone, some suggestions in the web talk about re-installing the official O2 rom, but I've searched this ROM with no success.

I have this error on XPERIA SP C5303 trying to flash 12.0.A.1.284 on top of 12.0.A.1.257. But my phone is SIM Locked and I know it. And I thought that rewriting simlock.ta from unlocked firmware unlock the phone as well. But flashtool skipping that file. It's really annoying !!! Don't know what to do to unlock it now

Unlock t889 issue - SOLVED

SOLVED:::::::::: Thanks to Pirobo_Colmbino
I recently was issued an official unlock code for my t889 from tmo. I tried to unlock the device using an ATT sim and got the "network unlock unsuccessful" message. Apparently, I'm a dunce and didn't read AND follow the instructions properly and entered the wrong code more than once. Now I am told that my device is PERMANENTLY LOCKED and cannot be unlocked. Is this correct? Is there a way to fix it? HELLLP

Hi, im not sure if this is gonna help, but the way I unlock mine was with the help of a simple youtube search. Im new her so i cant post a link.
Steps: dial *#197328640#
step 1: umts
step 2: debug screen
step 3: phone control
step 4 network lock
step 5: perso sha256 off ( wait 30 seconds than hit the menu key and hit back)
step 6: nw lock nv data initialliz (wait about 1 minute and exit.
reboot and that should be it.
Try that out and if it does not work "meaning you dont see all of the options" all you have to do is downgrade to an older version of Stock " yes you will have to root again but it gets the job done.
If it helps dont forget to hit thanks.

Thanks for your reply. I tried this before and all the worked until it comes to step 5. When I go back, the item "nw lock nv initialliz" (in your step 6), isn't there to select. Perhaps downgrading is the answer?
The part I don't seem to understand is that TMO says because I entered the wrong code multiple times, I lost the ability to unlock. Does this method overwrite or fix the permanent lock they spoke of?

You, sir are correct. I was able to downgrade via Odin, but I lost some functions (which didn't matter since it was only temporary). I performed the steps you provided and tested with an ATT sim. It worked. Then I updated to current stock ROM and rooted. Tested again with ATT sim and my device is still unlocked. Thanks for your help. I hope anyone else who runs into this issue, can find this post and learn like I did.

I'm not so sure it had much to do with the version, although I am no expert dev. Mind you, this happened in a short period of time.
TIMELINE:
I was on The stock (shipped) rom when I first bought my GN2. I got it new and broke the seal on the box. Upon opening and starting the device, I got an OTA update (don't remember the build but not the LL4 ota). I started doing some reading on XDA, since like most, I like tinkering and tweaking. Not long after that (Mid Jan 2013) I got the OTA from TMO that had "minor fixes and security changes". This is when I read somewhere on XDA that it is not recommended that we accept the OTA update. But it was too late; I had already done it. I came across the unlock instructions posted earlier in this thread but I couldn't get pass all the steps. A few days later I rooted via ROOT66_TMO_UVALL4 rom, which gave me access to SuperUser. [I have this ZIP saved if anyone wants it and wants to show me how share it.] Then I got an official unlock code from TMO.
I followed these instructions that TMO sent me with the unlock code
Thank you for taking the time to contact T-Mobile. Below you will see the Instructions for unlocking your Samsung device.
Please be advised a non T-Mobile SIM card MUST be used to unlock this device.
1. Insert a NON T-Mobile SIM & turn Device on
2. The Device will automatically prompt you to enter code into an empty field.
3. Click/Tap in the empty field above the "Unlock & Dismiss" options (this will display a key pad on the screen).
4. Using the key pad input the Unlock Code provided by T-Mobile.
5. Press the Back button to remove the keyboard from screen.
6. Click/Tap the "Unlock" option; handset should display "Network Unlock Successful".
Please note that if you are unlocking a flip device please use steps 1, 2, 3 and 6.

In my haste, I didn't follow the instruction EXACTLY as written. Somehow I managed to enter the unlock code while using my TMO sim and not the "NON TMO sim". When I did this, I got the message in step 6. I thought I was good from here. I tried an ATT sim a few days later to verify but it asked me again for the sim unlock code but the operation was unsuccessful. I tried entering the donor phone's screen unlock code a few times as well as zeros and 1234 and again failed. I tried again with another donor phone with the same result. TMO sent me a second unlock code which also failed. I did tell them that I had done the OTA update and the rep told me it shouldn't matter. I did not tell them I was rooted stock though. The rep told me that due to entering the wrong code multiple times, the device went into "security lockout" and could not be unlocked. I read into several threads and posts and could not find the answer, Thus my original post. I down graded my Rom to T889UVALJ1, successfully performed the unlock procedure posted above (NOT TMO official), and re-installed the ROOT66 rom. Everything is now working perfectly. I put in the ATT sim and it pops right up as ATT.
The real question now is, does the OTA issued by TMO block the unlock exploit and is that what they refer to when they mention "security features"?
Thank for Solving this issue goes to user Pirobo_Colombino see post 2
I encountered the same problem couple weeks ago. The problem is not caused by the TMO firmware update but rather the fact that you tried to unlock the phone using the hack you found on the internet. Per instruction on the free unlock hack online, you selected "PERSO SHA256 OFF", this step is what prevented the phone from being successfully unlocked with TMo unlock code. In order for the TMO unlock code to work, you have to select "PERSO SHA256 ON", then follow the instruction steps to unlock using TMO code. That is what I did and it worked for me. Hope this helps anyone who will run into this problem in the future. Cheers :good:

Interesting....... This is the first I've heard of this. Not to say this info is not out there; I just never came across it. I do hope that this reaches the poster of those links (there are quite a few) as a cautionary note. Perhaps someone will post a how-to compiled with all these tidbits included.

I cannot say it will work with HK sim since I have NO experience with that card or even overseas. However, I can say that ATT&T sim works every time I put it in the phone. Have you ever used a HK sim in another phone? If you did and it worked, I don't see why it wouldn't work in this one.

Latest OTA is 4.1.2
I'm not sure how you are trying to do your unlock. In order to use the unlock method detailed in post #2, I needed to downgrade my firmware. The method in post 2 WILL NOT work after the OTA update.
If you are using the instructions from your carrier, follow the instructions they emailed you EXACTLY. If you have issues with the carrier instructions, contact them; It's up to them to give you proper tech support on THEIR product.
As I understand, the "hack" method is for mostly intended those who have modded/altered/rooted/other-than-stock devices. Whichever method you use, be aware, YOU RUN THE RISK OF BRICKING YOUR DEVICE. That being said, research your steps BEFORE you end up with a dead device.
I AM NOT a developer nor claim to be an expert at any of these methods. However I have been modding my devices for years by reading and researching XDA. I have had success and failures and so will you. The best advice I can offer is to continue reading the posts CAREFULLY and be patient.
I hope this helps

Yep I did in detail what has been said in post #2. ( By default my device is 4.1.1. )
When it didnt worked, I asked tmobile for the network pin. I also followed their instruction thoroughly, after i entered the pin they gave, it gave the message network unlock successfull. I noticed that there still was no signal so i restarted my device. However it still keep asking me for a network pin. When I asked them about this, they just said that they dont really know why.
I also did a factory reset.
Wonder what could be the issue. Any thoughts?

I would call Tmobile again and talk to someone else. Maybe ask for tier 2 support. Many times, the first person you get is a low level customer support person that only knows what the computer screen shows them unfortunately.

Not recognizing SIM card, no IMEI.

I have an unlocked Xperia Play AT&T branded, R800a originally, now reads as R800i. It does not seem to want to read SIM cards and no IMEI number shows up while trying to display it. Some threads have suggested flashing modems or something on it, but all linked threads had files that were no longer available. I was wondering how and if I could fix this.
Default Not recognizing SIM card, no IMEI.
I know this is a couple of day's old thread but have you tried flashing back to Xperia Play AT&T R800a ftf there is a link to one on this thread that is working (Tested Link is working) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1589399.Also when you said it now read's R800i what did you do if anything for it to start reading this?(it looks like you have flashed the wrong ftf:crying: correct me if i'm wrong.

Probably, I remember trying just about everything originally just to get the bootloader unlocked. I'll try some from that link you posted.
I also have an r800a, but I unlocked boatloader though alejandrissimo's testpoint method, since it is the only one that worked with it, but it was a paid method (I don't know if it's still paid), and the IMEI method through Sony webpage doesn't work with our r800a.
Maybe you screwed up the TA by a bad unlock try and need an IMEI replace/fix. Both are also offered as a free (I think) service, just head up to this page http://unlock-bootloader.com/
Hope this helped. If you have doubts just search alejandrissimo in XDA to find he is a well known member here.

[Q] Xperia Play R800i No Service

Hello, i have an xperia play which is R800i, it's bootloader unlocked, and should be network unlocked, if i go in that option with brackets like [] Network etc they are all with empty brackets and 0, according to some pages its fully unlocked, but still, i cannot get it to work, i've made several baseband changes, roms, etc,
what could be the problem of the phone? i bought it from someone that i usually buy stuff off, so i "shuld" be sure its not imei locked, but then, even if it was imei locked, would i be able to set a PINfor the SIM card? is there a way to check if there's a SIM card inserted in the phone from android? because i feel like it doesn't read my sim at all.
Please suggestions are welcome i tried everything, thank you
i can pay for a solution if its 100% working

hi,replying cause i have same problem..i unlocked the bootloader with sony offcial method the second i had it in my hands and flashed a custom rom(everything working fine before the flashing..)..oddly i could use data(browser youtube facebook ecc working) but no calls or text..so i relocked bootloader and flashed with seus but nothing to do,same problem data working but no calls or text..then i unlocked again tried some roms, then decided to relock and give a try again with seus..now it won't recognise the sim at all,and NO FASTBOOT,it was working fine before the 2nd flash with seus, and i know for sure it's not an hardware issue...flashed many simlock.ta(changing the name to preset.ta) with flashtools..bot nothing.now i can only flash stock tft, since fastboot is no longer working(so i can't unlock the bootloader for the 3rd time), everytime after first boot it ask to insert sim and reboot, even if it ask for pin if i set it..so it IS reading the sim...the radio is bricked, been searching for 2 weeks now, and no solution found. i contacted alejandrissimo, he said he coul fix broken trim area for 20$, but it isn't answering to my messages anymore..sorry bro it looks like our play it's gone forever as a phone, so far..

Check your APNs, from my experience they get reset if you flash a generic FTF

I'm 100% sure having a locked boot loader makes accessing fast boot impossible? If you can still flash FTF find one for an ICS Rom and see if that fixes it

thanks for replying, i reflashed with wotan and now i have unlocked bootloader, and can flash but the problem on 3g stiil exist. i'm on superjellybean8, and sometimes it will lose the signal on 3g(but data fully working) i get emergency call only,i can browse and other data task like facebook etc, but no call or text, so i turn airplane mode on off until it gets the signal(wich sometimes is very very painful and slow..). i usually get no problem on 2g..so may i start thinking it could be hardware problem on the 3g antenna or something? i've been using it for a couple month now,if i could get rid of the 3g problem it would be great..it makes me miss some important calls you know..

I'm pretty sure the GSM attenna is on the top left on the opposite of side of the power button, have you dropped it recently?
Just occurred to me now, call your service provider and see if the 3G tower in your area is undergoing maintenance

no one knows?
Won't you mind if I join this thread?
I've got r800i unlocked from aliexpress which was working fine but had non-working touch-sticks.
So I tried to flash newer firmware (.79) and end up with 'no service' problem.
Like OP I have "[] Network 0" so it's definitley not become locked but it doesn't see my provider.
The funny thing is that it does see one of the local providers but only one of three.
Tried different ftf's, currently on R800i_4.0.2.A.0.84_Vodafone DE_(1247-8566).
The only thing I know from the original firmware (from flashtool) is:
Current device : R800i - CB5A1D6HYX - 1247-6268_R8D - 1245-8821_4.0.2.A.0.42 - WORLD-1-8_4.0.2.A.0.42
As I understand this one had Meteor IE baseband.
Is this problem has something with firmware or could it be antenna/hardware problem?

Thanks bro, but I sent the faulty device back to China. That's was the first idea - to change basebands, but that didn't help either in my case.
