This is a follow up to my 'Where are the car docs?' Thread ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1341625 )
Rolled the dice and I got this one:
http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewitem?itemId=120801509015
To summarize my purchase: meh, it will do for now.
For starters, I have a mini clubman and there aren't tins of mount locations for a dock. Basically look at the pics to see where I put it. I knew going into the purchase that I might wind hacking and grafting the phone tray on to a mounting arm that I use for my N1 and then SGT.
One bright spot about this doc is that it isn't an exact fit tray; so it should work OK once I get a case for my SGN. That is, I don't think I will need to take my SGN out the case to put in car dock.

Dude, congrats on getting your car dock. But your title is totally misleading. Dock is spelled with a "k" (dock not doc).
You had me wondering what kind of car doctor you need to use a Note in a car.

The best kind.
Funny, I have a r56 and the official samsung mount for my note, have it in the same spot. Its .. ok.. I would like it to be a bit lower, it certainly broadcasts whatever I'm looking at to any cars in the area. I have the same problem, nowhere else to mount.
I have the official car dock for my SGT. The fixed mount arm appears same or very similar to the pics I have seen of the SGN dock. I couldn't find a good way to position my SGT dock on speedo where it didn't totally obfuscate the speedo. Thus I grafted the tray to a 6" flex mount I had from my n1.
I didn't opt for the real one as I only really want the phone tray and didn't think the SGN one would be any more flexible about where I could mount it.
So does yours totally block your view to the speedo and guages?
(I too feel near by cars can totally see my screen, maybe less so with my SGN than SGT)

Ya totally blocks the use of the speedo, gas, and warning lights. I use the tachometer LCD for sleedo. Its just to high and in my face, I don't really use my CD player so my plan is to ditch the suction cup and arm, use the mount/dock horizontally infront of the CD and just covering the volume a little. Zero idea how I'm going to do that haha but if I do I will post up some pics.
Small update : been using this setup for a week or so. . . Working well. . .
I got a case recently :

I have to take a bit more care inserting and removing. . . But it fits this car dock setup OK. .

Fair warning, if I pass you going down the road and you're watching a movie in the front seat, I will be running you off the road and into the ditch.
Seriously man, you don't need the cops to tell you that kind of distraction is really ****ing stupid.

Lol with the exception of my Q5 all the vehicles I have owned have had video playback. As a matter a fact, my first car in 1999 had a custom monitor. Turning the channel on the radio is a distraction. You should YouTube "Vic Gundotra Mercedes". So it doesn't matter if your watching TV or not.

I got the car mount that fits in the CD player. Works awesome, best I've ever owned for any device. Very high quality. Easy to use. Vertical or horizontal. Also CD player in my car is at just the right height, I don't like the mounts for dash or windows.

That looks great! How well does it fit with your phone? I was never a fan of universal mounts, just because they tend to be bulky since they have to be a "one size fits all" solution. I prefer more of an OEM approach where its as slim as possible. I do like your setup though, thanks for sharing +1

Honestly it fits nice and snug. Also great because I can use any size case I want. The mount rotates 360 degrees and has padded clamps for the phone with an easy access eject button. For being an unheard brand, its definitely high quality and extremely durable/sturdy. I'd recommend it to anyone with a smart phone.

I've used the Mountek mounts now for nearly 2 years. Had it for my droidx. Also have other family members using it for the iPhone and GPS devices, etc. They work great and also allow a certain degree of angulation - maybe 15 degrees or so in addition to the 360 degree swivel feature. Can be used with any case and also leave the camera free for use if required.
That looks really good. I think I'm going to try and do something like that with my Pro Clips mount. I want to order the Nexus holder, but at $60 including shipping the thought of paying that makes me wanna puke.
I like the looks of the mount by the OP but with a case on the phone, it won't work. I bought the Arkon unit a few months ago and it is nice but big. The CD slot mount looks neat but does it does it hurt the slot opening in any way? There is usually a felt lining on the cd opening?

great work however having cold AC going over the hot CPU or GPU is not a good idea because condensation can build up and lead to corrosion over time.
Its why people don't cool there desktop computers with external air conditioners, if its just the fan blowing its fine.

Actually, The AC is de-humidified. That is why many de-foggers also turn the AC on with the heat to clear the windshield.
The CD player will not be harmed. There are 4 teeth that stick into the CD player only about a half an inch, not far enough to hurt the CD player. There is a knob on the bottom of the unit that you twist to tighten the grip of the teeth. Basically when tightening, two teeth are forced up and two down to make sure the harness is sturdy. The teeth are basically a soft plastic.

That's what I'm going to try. Bracketron offers several different AMPs to ball mount plates. I'd post a link but this is literally my first post.
I'm hoping one of those ball plates will fit into the GNex mount. I also bought short (2-3") 3.5mm audio and micro USB charging cables that I will then try bonding/fiberglassing to the cradle so I don't have to plug them in every time. And then cutting the top of the stupid mount off so I can slide the phone in from the top
Folks can anyone recommend a decent car mount for the note? I don't want to use any adhesive or suction cup types since I am scared of those falling off.
Thanks

the official samsung units have an amazing suction cup.
I had an official Samsung car dock for my P1000 Tablet, There was no way in hell that thing was ever going to fall off.
even sitting on the windshield in 40degC days (Australian summer), and cool night temp changes didn't move that sucker.
Hell, I had struggles getting it to release when I wanted it to release...
Samsung dont skimp on their kit... its why it costs so much more.
I have a proclipusa car mount. So I recently got the Regular Adjustable Holder with Tilt/Swivel here. You can get Proclipusa holders with the charging ports built-in as well specifically designed for the Note - but I wanted something I can use for future devices if needed. The adjustable holder works with my thin Rearth Ringke Slim case as well. I think I may need to add some extra padding to make it a little more snug and secure feeling. It seems to wobble a bit because the slot is a bit thicker than the Note (crazy thin btw).
I use a PHONEclip, which attaches the G-Note directly to the steering Wheel.
You can find detailed info here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22252176&postcount=24
In the same thread also more info about the above mentioned 'breffo spiderpodium'
Went on Amazon, spiderpodium reviews were mixed, many found it to be very low quality construction.
That steering wheel clip sounds interesting, unfortunately I have a boxwave case on my phone. Probably wont fit.

hahahaha!!! So true and so unintentionally funny to envision, in mid-air-bag-deployment-to-face-contact! lmao
I can see the coroner's quote now:
"There's a good chance he'd have survived the impact with no more than a contusion and a couple of scrapes, but the force of the air-bag drove his near tablet-sized device clear through his skull and out the back side of his spinal column in what appears to be less time than it takes a humming bird to make a single wing-flap."
hmmm, you have a point there. So it's a choice between convenience or safety, difficult decision...
To answer seriously, I've checked it on my car and I think that it isn't a problem. The PHONEclip is made from a very strong material. So in stead of breaking, I expect it to work like a hinge and simply turn over the top of the steering wheel.
Proclip = Brodit
IMHO
for all my previous and recent smartphones I ever used Proclip holders in my car(s)
The Proclip platform is specific to each car model and the holder(s) are specific to each smartphone. I am using active holders with charging and I am very satisfied with it every time.
No excluding with my newest Samsung Galaxy Note too
I have the Samsung Car mount, and I am very disappointed.
It is a pain to insert the phone in the very tight clips, then you have to slide the usb connector into the phone, an exercise that takes two hands.
Further it does not accomodate even the very thin Samsung flip cover.
It forces the phone into car mode, which requires voice input - which does not work. - at least with my voice. I cannot call 'Nora' it will only find Laura - and I don't have a strong accent. It has no means of understanding what 'Home' means.
And now, after a month, it appears that contacts inside the car unit are flakey - the phone goes crazy when I plug it in.
So great phone, but they screwed up royally on the car mount.
So where can I get this Samsung Car Mount?
Mountek
Mountek has a universal car mount that sits in your CD slot for around $20.

Been thru 3 car docks for my note, and have landed on an OK solution. For starters, I have a mini club man - which doesn't have lots of options for dock mounting.
Try 1: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1386908 worked well for a while, but it broke, certainly due to my mods. Overall this dock's carrier tray worked OK with a case, my note stayed put. But the mount arm was difficult to position in my mini (hence the mods).
Try 2: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Windscreen-...7000-i9220-small-/200679521242#ht_1759wt_1165 I thought I could hack up the tray a bit to make it work with a case -- nope.
Try 2.5: the exo gear mount mentioned several times before: http://www.exogear.com/products-exomount-car-mount-holder.html This works OK, with the case. There is a some play and movement once my note is clipped in; with a tilt or 2 you can get seated in a pretty secure fashion. But -- the mounting arm doesn't provide many mounting options in a mini.
Try 3: http://cdslotmount.com/ and the exo gear mount. This is working well. May not be as good as the mountek option (http://mountek.com/ which is hard to find -- sold out everywhere!) but it is working.
Here are some pics! Hope this helps someone.
Why'd ya get the car?
Sorry, couldn't resist ;-) Likely a bit of jealousy to be honest.
I use the official Samsung one, which is pretty effective suction mount, can't use with case though.

I was also looking for a minimalistic mount for my phone. I hate those suction cup and dashboard mounts so I got the tetrax xway and I love it. It mounts nicely on my dash near and blends into my stereo. Having the little metal nipple on my phone is a bit annoying but the convenience of quickly and securely attaching my phone to my car is worth it.

I've been using these magnet mounts in my car for a couple years. They have worked great on:
HTC Wildfire
Optimus 2X
Galaxy S3
Navigon SATNAV (much heavier than a smartphone)
Walkman MP3 Player
Anything with metal in it like a pen!
Nothing has ever fallen off even over potholes and rough country tracks. All wifi 3g bluetooth are unaffected but cant verify NFC as I dont use it.
The only glitch I spotted was that the orientation sensor on the wildfire didnt respond (if I turned the phone from portrait to landscape whilst attached it wouldnt rotate the screen), but the other phones didnt have that problem.
I love it. Even though my magnet is larger (about the size of a 50p), its discreet and effective. I would recommend to anyone.
I have always used the stick on ones not the clip on, but as long as they clip ok to your vent and you dont blast hot air directly to the phone it should be ok.
I use their X-Way model as part of my near perfect car mount solution.
So obviously, it all starts with the Tetrax X-Way. I mounted that directly to one of the vents in the middle of my car. It does block the vest quite a bit, but it's the perfect spot for me and doesn't involve any adhesive on my dash. At first, I tried attaching one of the little nipple things to the back of my phone directly. While this worked, it drove me nuts that I couldn't lay my phone flat on a table anymore. This became a problem when I accidentally bumped my S3 while it was sitting on a table and since there was less friction now, the thing went flying. So not good.
My solution was to pick up a dirt cheep slim case. That's how I ended up with the elago G5 Slim Fit Case. With the nipple attached to that, I could just slip my phone in/out of that and leave the case sitting in my arm rest compartment when not in use. Now I had the awesome form factor of my S3 and the ability to mount. So the next issue was the connection.
Like almost everyone else, I was using the cigarette lighter along with a curly charging cord that was 5x longer than it needed to be. Worse, the giant power wart that was now sticking out of my dash. Not only was this ugly, it was a pain in the but to store. What I really wanted to use was a small USB cable, 6-8 inches long, that could fit with my new case in my arm rest and a way to ditch the giant dash wart. The cable is easy enough to find, but how do I plug it in? With the Griffin Powerjolt Dual! While there are a bunch of USB port adaptors floating aorund, this was the first I found that would actually sit flush against the dash. This means I wouldn't have any stupid wart thing to deal with, the look of my dash wouldn't be thrown off, and since I don't smoke, I could just leave it in full time.
The big win in all of this is two fold. First, I could ditch the bulky plastic car mount garbage for a few thin and easy to store version. Second, I did the same thing (but with a different case) for my wife's Galaxy Nexus. Now we can both use the same mount depending on who's driving (or if we pick up a second X-Way, we can both charge and mount at the same time thanks to the dual ports on the Powerjolt) and save even more room in the car since we didn't need two giant device specific car mounts. The other minor bonus here is that the X-Way came with enough of those attachment nipples that I should be able to roll along for a few years using the same mounting system across multiple new devices.

My friend has this solution for his BB and loves it. I wasn't willing to pay the price the local Best Buy wanted. I found a different magnet system at my local Bell store.
Something similar to this. I stuck the large magnet to my dash and the other magnet is on my case. I've had zero issues with NFC. Bash cash mount kit imo.

So I got the vent mount version and it works great in my car. In my truck the clip does not fit the vent. I placed the circle towards the top of the phone like it says and it hangs in portrait. In the video it shows it going between portrait and landscape, it doesn't do that. You get one orientation unless you put the connector in the middle I would guess. Other than that it is perfect.

It's just the way the design is I think, some possibly looser then others. Stick a bit of card or paper down the sides and when you get the perfect side you could glue it?? Or exchange it and see if the new one fits better

Hello, I received my T-Mobile HTC One yesterday and the car dock does not fit very tight. I would like some feedback from others who have it. Mine is so loose that the phone will fall out if you turn it sideways and take a corner too fast.

Ya, I noticed the same thing. It's primarily held in with the power cable, it doesn't really snap into the dock like most I've used. I don't see any real problem, though, since I don't use the dock w/out the power cable.
How about with a skin on? Will it fit the car dock snugly?
I don't think I will even use mine. My CD Mount Dock works a lot better. I was very disappointed.
Try going out and getting a thin piece of that "sticky" shelving liner and put a small piece on the end of the dock piece that meets the middle of the HTC One while its docked. That probably sounds better in my head than in reality though, but hey, it will grip the phone a little so its not loose and plus you won't have to keep on puting something inside the dock each time you dock the One, Give it a try, or even some velcro, (the soft side) depending on the loose gap you got going on, either one should work
can I ask, can you take screenshots of the car dock app and post here? I have yet to see anything on the car mode app that HTC is using in Sense 5. I seen the one for Sense 4 (loved it) I wish I could find something on it besides the single screenshot thats being used on the box of the car kit

You can add whatever app shortcut you want to the car dock app
Its actually pretty damn good, even the Speak thing is good, it actually uses the microphone in my car meaning the music mutes and i can give commands while driving with wind noise ect.
Apparently the voice for car mode uses nuance so it should be great

So what about apps that are not horizontal does it force to vertical or can it be turned to vertical without the phone coming off?

I'm getting ready to go out of town and don't have time to do a picture right now. But the mount is made for vertical position of the phone only in my opinion and that is all they show in the instructions. I have not used it yet with the charger so I will have to see how that does. But I would be scared the phone would come out in horizontal mode. I may look into some of the suggestions as a fix.
Thanks

Got mine today and tested in both portrait and landscape and the charger is the holding mechanism! It doesn't slip out when the charger is in and dock mode works perfectly. I love this phone for car mode way more then my old gnexus!
