Hey all. I recently got a theme for my ADWLauncher and I was wondering would it consume more battery than using the default ADWLauncher theme?
Thanks
Sunny.

battery only if the theme is brighter and that too minimal.. if it looks good to you then go ahead! worst case....if u r looking at it now for a day.. look at a more beautiful version for a little less time!!
Not really. Go ahead and enjoy the power of customization. The theme wont really affect battery usage that much to get even notice.
The only thing that may consume battery power is if you decide to use live wallpapers and a lot of animations and stuff.
Other than that nothing major to worry about.
Cool. Thanks everyone for your feedback.
I guess ill be enjoying themes

Hey I used ADW launcher EX a very long time and loved it.
However running ADW launcher on top of a sense build phone causing a bigger battery drainage.
If you want to run ADW i suggest you get a stock rom and then use ADW.
When you put it on top of Sense, Sense still runs on the background and therefor uses more battery.

As above, applications like launcherpro and adw ex. Do they drain the battery?

All apps drain the battery, if your asking do they drain it more than SENSE, I seriously doubt it
As in they don't drain the battery as much as htc sense?

Yes, Sense has a lot going on with widgets etc and a lot of graphical bling, which although to some peoples taste I would expect to be a drain on memory and power, although someone who actually uses SENSE may be able to actually confirm one way or the other
HI,
first of all : sorry for my bad English...
I'm not using anymore neither...I think...
Let me explain :
I saw a post on a French forum saying that if you use, let's say ADW launcher and sense (meaning : tap on "home, and android asking you wich app do you want to launch), the widget of BOTH home will drain your battery, even those you don't see...
it makes sense, but even if I had chosen ADW as default app, I re-enabled sense, and vacuum this home from every widget and shortcut.. THEN I re-enabled ADW as my default launcher.
now... how to be sure that my "nude" sense is not draining my battery on its own ?
how to be sure that sense doesn't even start with a reboot ?
...I'm still using a regular htc rom by the way...
thank you for what should be a pain-full reading
G.
I have been using sense ui virt rom.
I loved it but noticed a bit of lost of speed when I flashed cyanogen v7.
Cyanogen was really fast for me compared to virt. rom.
What do u guys prefer?
Idk which one I shud stick too.

Well sense is slower due to the fact its "packed". Well I really like sense, it looks really good. Love the wigets the most but I like cyan more because.... umm I just like it better lol.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Sense widgets aren't as fast, but I do love the Sense clock app, the Sense clock widget, contacts widget and photo gallery widget.
the calendar widget is very laggy compared to Launcher Pro, and the actual dock/launcher bar at the bottom is a very wasteful way to use precious screen real estate. I mean - who really needs such a large button for the phone?
Launcher Pro/ADW Ex and other launchers make it really easy to save screen space by having scrollable launcher/docks...but with Sense it just wastes space.
I am using a GingerVillain ROM with ADW Ex and it works pretty well. But I am missing some of those Sense apps/widgets!
cyanogenmod is faster ,has better battery life, its more up to date and is more customizable.
sense/virtouos has much better apps and widgets such as camera,contacts,keyboard,phone,etc...
it really comes down to personal preferences.
I personally have set them both exactly the way i like and installed all the
apps that i need on them and made a back up so i regulary change between
them whenever i feel like it.
I can't believe I'm saying this but I like Sense better now than Vanilla. I have been using the vanilla for a long time now and then tried switching to sense a week ago and I love it.
I'm not a fan of the sense homescreen though but I love the camera app, phone app, gallery, and the minor quirks you get with it.
The only downside though is that IMO it drains twice as fast as stock.

Is there a camera app like sense on the market? I'm missing the touch to focus.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Sense, no question. The superior camera, music, and contacts apps are a no-brainer, IMO. I don't use the Sense launcher, though - LauncherPro for me. I tried Cm7 and honestly didn't see that big of a difference. I get 12-15hours of moderate use with Virtuous v1.0, which is the best Sense ROM out there.

What do u think about the speed on virtuous vs cyonagen
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
CM is definitely faster, mainly because its built for that, specifically. Sense is built to give a better user experience. Apples and Oranges. With the stock Virtuous kernel, I don't notice a significant speed difference vs CM.

Without sense. No question.
From my permarooted overclocked HTC G2 with cyanogen 7 nightly via XDA app
Is there any way to get the alarm clock to put a notification in the notification bar on the Sense UI like it does in the Vanilla ROMs? Everytime I hit snooze I wonder if I hit the right button. I'm currently using Virtuous v1.0.0 for the G2/DZ.
I like the sense over the "vanilla" the G2 came with. I've been using virtuous since the day it came out and have loved it. I haven't used CM but I' am comfortable with sense
i currently use MIUI but i loved sense when i used it the only thing i didint like was that you couldnt get it to not autocap , i know it sounds stupid but its really one of my pet pev's , i switch back and forth from now & again but does anyone know how to make it so it doesent autocap on sense virtu rom ?

thats exactly why i staied with Virtuous Rom.
i would go to CM but the camera app sucks..
Please tell me why people like it? It has 3 non changable icons that stay one color and looks like its out of place compared to the rest of a home screen setup.
Just wondering whats so great about it? Am i missing something?

different strokes for different folks.
It gives more of a stock feeling than ADW. And the trashcan is on the bottom dock, the only reasons I used it, then I moved to ADW for honeybread
Sent from my HTC Vision
I actually think it looks a bit better than adw. It gives more of a clean look.

Because the app drawer is the best app drawer of all of them! Especially with a phone with good graphics!
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
Isn't the same effect app drawer available on adw and lppro?
Sent from prison
Well gb launcher2 is just so much smoother then adw or lp. Home screen scrolling is buttery smooth, and the transition for opening the app drawer is much nicer then the other two. The app drawer cube effect shows 5 rows in the fold compared to the others. Now that I can use themes in CM7 without adw, I use it.
And in the stock launcher the apps in the drawer "bounce" much smoother than LP, not as laggy
I believe i read somewhere on here that the stock launcher is hardware accelerated. That is why is runs faster and smoother.
I personally prefer anything stock. Stock apps seem, to me at least, to be smaller and faster. Try to keep the fluff to a minimum.
I love stock anything! My Nexus One made me love the 3D app drawer, and on my G2, its only smoother! I can't wait to see how smooth a stock dual core Android 2.4 phone from Google is gonna be! The G2x is a good example, however it will be froyo, meaning not fully dual core compatible like 2.4 will be! My guess....Nexus X by Motorola! I can wish, can't I??

I just love that stock vanilla google experience...same when ICS, Jellybean drop...ill stick to stock...no overlays or launchers for me...BTW is there a zip I can flash for the gingerbread launcher over adw in CM7..? (There was one for NS)
Edit: I know there's a couple in the market but those aren't as smooth as the ones in NS Development...

Hey,
I really didn't have to do anything but flash it. I flashed this over the ILWT cm7 rom and it just worked right out of the box (on 187b as well as 204).
I wouldn't know how to improve the performance of the launcher, except for common guesses such as reflashing/wiping and such.
Maybe it's just a different understanding of what "working really well" means. I never did get it to work perfectly buttery smooth, a very tiny lag always remained (even though it was running a lot better than adw).
hey people,
i was just wondering... i like my cm7 rom, but i do get bored quickly of the desktop and the same old routes to things.. i always like to change around when i like.
any ideas? screenshots or links will help
thanks a bunch for any help!!!
I use launcherpro, which I paid for a long time ago. I wish touchwiz wasn't exclusive to samsung, because I really starting liking it on my vibrant before I got my G2.
I do NOT like zeam or adwlauncher that comes with CM7. I end up installing lancherpro and use titanium backup to uninstall adwlauncher.
One good thing with LauncherPro does that any other launcher doesn't is the unread gmail count on the home screen.
So, if I had my pick, I would pick TouchWiz, but since I can't use it for my G2, then I'm stuck with my second choice 'LauncherPro'
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
Using LauncherPro now but looking into that Launcher 7, looks interesting, highly customizable.
LauncherPro
cheers for all your replies i will thank you all !!
okay well im gonna do a nandroid backup, install launcher pro and use titanium to uninstall adw... you gotta love titanium backup!!!
then if i dont like it i can always revert back using clock work mod!
i may also try that launcher 7, but ill hang fire and read some reviews
cheers everyone!!
Touchwiz launcher has been ripped from galaxy s phones and works very good on my g2. I really didn't like it much though, so I use adw ex or gingerbread launcher2.apk from nexus s roms. Those 2 are super smooth.
Adw that comes with CM is slower than the others, but if you download adw notifier (free on market), you can get the unread popup on the icon. LP is cool, but I find ex and gingerbread launchers more.

How about the Stock Gingerbread Launcher from the Nexus Phones?
cheers guys ive thanked you all, i have gone with the launcher pro, but im gonna do a nandroid backup and try all of them
thanks!!
defiantly try the stock luncher if you are any type of purist. yea it removers theme chooser but just open the cm7 zip file and you can extract the apk files out if you want them. i really dont care. the only thing i miss from adw is the swipe anywhere on the screen options. and the hide status bar. but i think that launcher is the best so its a small price to pay. i also miss custom icons. but once again. speed and stability is more important to me.
I paid for LauncherPro a while ago, but GO Launcher is slowly starting to win me over.

For me, ADW EX is the way to go, hands down. It's worth the $3.
I personally do not like all of the things that come with EX, I have a themed version of the Gingerbread Launcher. It's themed for the guy's theme who is above me =p
When im on cm7 I use ADW with the DroidX theme. Looks great!

Adw ex FTW. also go Laucher is pretty sweet, but adw is flawless with performance

Id say ADWex.. but if your lookin for somethin completely different.. then launcher7.. its smooth, nice, and customer tiles are easy to make. its been what I've been stuck on lately..

I personally love GO Launcher. It is sort of a cross between ADW EX and Launcher Pro, with some new and different things as well. It's also extremely stable, which is something I can't say about Launcher Pro (at least that was the case last year when I used it heavily).
Try android seven pro if u are into windows... some may not like the thought of windows on a linux device but its good for something different. I bounce between adw ex launcher7 and android seven because I get bored easily

have a good search on the market yourself would be the best option for you. there are literally thousands of different options for you. but customisation is relatively limited for non rooted phones, live wallpapers and HTC themes, avaliable though HTC built in Sense Themes.
with certain roms, they take on the T-Mobile theme system what utilises much more themes to download and customise. launchers only make changes to your main screen and application list, icons as such a limited.
adw launcher, launcher pro, helix launcher
Re. Make your phone look nice without root...
This might raise some hackles, but in my opinion, when it comes to the aesthetics between rooted and stock phones, there isn't usually a drastic difference. You can get a stock ROM looking really great. I run LauncherPro Plus on CM7.1, but to be honest the cosmetic difference between that and running it on stock Froyo is fairly minor, to the, uhm, passerby. *hides*
Thanks this helps alot
