so the off white tab that holds the pins in place broke off....and also some of the pins broke off. So im wondering if this is completely impossible to fix? is there anyway to rig the lcd screen to turn on still or am i screwed? btw it is the smaller flex cable version. i dont have a sprint upgrade for a good year and a half so im not trying to wait that long and my htc hero is getting quite annoying to use compared to my modded evo which was gloriously fast.
Hey did you ever get this fixed?? The same thing just happened to me...
A new digitizer for the Evo only costs $20-$30. Just buy one and replace it. Problem solved.
Hey,
It is possible to fix you just need a new lcd screen or digitizer here are some ebay links for them I am not sure what one you need..
http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-HTC-EVO...ultDomain_0&hash=item230a0125a2#ht_2253wt_752
http://www.ebay.com/itm/HTC-Evo-4G-...ultDomain_0&hash=item519bf4265e#ht_2188wt_944
But just replace it dont try to rig it or anything it will cause more damage then good.
I hope I helped If I did please hit the thanks button,
Stevo
I think he means the connector on his logic board broke which is hard to repair afaik

hi guy's, i have been up tring to change the cover on my mini and it seems i have broken the end off the ribbon cable (dam it) is there anything i can do to repair it or is a new screen needed?? if so does anyone know where to get a cheap screen???
thanks in advance
i damaged my ribbon connector that's connected to the main board (the one with the clip lock) on my mini too
It sucks hey? the clip lock's all i need thats the thing that broke, the cable seems in good shape. any ideas??
no ideas. i asked our service center here but they dont sell spare parts. they said i have to buy the whole board. Now im looking for any MINI that's not working and maybe i can get it at a bargain price.
I think i might just by an atom unless you know of any other wicked phones comming out soon??
Hey There,
I am attempting to try and fix my phone because it has multiple problems associated with it such as a nonfunctional power button, a faulty in-call speaker, and blind spots within the digitizer that are unresponsive.
My guess is that the prior owner dropped the phone and some damage was sustained to the flex cable/pcb which runs to all of these things causing the phone to have some broken connections here and there.
I plan to use a teardown/repair guide to use this, BUT!
Does anyone know what else might be the problem, and where can I find a replace flex cable/pcb and how much do they usually go for?
I live in Canada...
Appreciate it.
You can get them off ebay for ~50 USD. ebay item number 260744426322. It's from China and will take forever but that's about it. Sounds like a flex cable though, hopefully it doesn't need a new digitizer too.
Hey Boys n Girls!
I made a mistake and bought off eBay a phone with a "not working LCD":
" This is a used HTC Desire Z smartphone. The item was dropped on water and immediately pulled out. The LCD screen doesn't work anymore as some cable inside is cracked. Everything works fine, touchscreen, menu and the device boots fine, you can hear the sound etc but no image. Anyone can fix this if you have an LCD spare for HTC Desire Z and the phone can be used and works fine, just the LCD needs replacing. Comes with original box, manuals and battery but no charger or data cable. I want to sell this fast so Happy Bidding!"
, also ordered already from two different seller LCD replacement screens neither of them worked. Backlight works on both but nothing else. Im quite puzzled what to do next...
Anyone got any idea?
Please let me know! THanks in advance!
Sounds like some cable is not working, rather than the two screens you've purchased! There is a guide somewhere here for all of that stuff. Best of luck mate!

If you could kindly link that guide, it would be very much appreciated! Thanks!
try searching for ribbon cable. You should prob just take it to a cell phone store. Phone geeks in San Marcos did my repair for 70. I was texting gf while playing golf in pouring rain.

The flex ribbon cables are not that expensive. If you were comfortable replacing the screen, I would say you have the ability to replace the flex ribbon cable without a problem.

Im going to order it tonight and give an update as soon as I got the flex ribbon cable.... I assembled and disassembled so many times already soon will be able to do it blindfolded
Also while you have it apart clean the logic board with denatured or pure alcohol and a soft bristled brush. Let it dry completely! That way it won't corrode further from the water damage!

I will do that since it will probably take like 2 weeks to ship the flex ribbon from China Thanks Man!

No prob cheap insurance plus it could even since a current or future problem I do this work for people can you tell lol. Denatured is best otherwise I think 97 is as pure as you'll find. Most stores carry the latter.
Ps be gentle no need to go medieval on it
Replacing the Flex Ribbon Cable solved my problems.... Cheers Everyone!
does any body know what the part on the main board is called i need to have it replaced but its on the motherboard of the phone its the part that connects the sdcard ribbon cable to the main board and it has the little whit lach gate on it to secure the pins, if any body knows pleas let me know kus the gate fell off of mine when i dropped it and i need to sodder on a whole new peice n no i dont have insurnce on the phone so sending it is is out the door..lol
i take it just taping it on wont help, never seen this for sale anywhere and soldering to these small boads is very difficult, ive had bad luck soldering @ this scale. i suggest buying a new motherboard or a broken phone with a good motherboard and swapping. unless you are a wiz at soldering and you are able to even find what you need this will be the cheapest fix

... if you don't do something stupid like I did. If you pay attention, research, watch videos, etc, you won't do what I did. I found a charging port on amazon that came with the tools needed to get the job done for about $15. I opened the case and all went well up to the point that I needed to disconnect the old piece. I followed all directions up to disconnecting the wide connection. There are 2. One right next to the port and the other at the opposite end of the ribbon cable. Not paying a bit of attention to what I was doing, instead of popping up the little latch that holds the cable down, I pried up the ribbon cable. Thus breaking off the connector that is soldered to the board. Now, I have a tablet that works until the battery dies.
Moral to the story, pay attention. Replacing the port is easy. Just pay attention.
Now, does anyone know if the connector can be replaced? Can I get a new board? Or am I out $400+?!
Follow-up question. I am looking around and it looks like I can get a replacement motherboard. Before I spend the money on a new motherboard (and hopefully not break this one), how will it function? I am rooted. Will I be starting from scratch with a stock tablet? No OS at all? Just fine and still rooted?
Thanks.

Did you ever find a solution? I just did the same thing. I was trying to be careful - but that top piece just broke right off of the connector to the motherboard. Am I screwed?!

What piece broke off? You might be in luck cause i have 3 tab s's taken apart right now and can probably send you the part you need. Can you pm a picture of the part you broke? The charging port is connected to a cable and i just had it apart. What did you break on it?

Wow - that would be awesome. Truth be told, I'm doubting this is something I'll be able to do myself, but I'm about to have a dead/useless tablet, and nothing to lose. So I'm willing to try!
Thanks!
Here are the broken pieces. In case anyone is thinking about doing this - they're very fragile!
Again, not sure about my ability to take the piece off of the motherboard, and/or attach a replacement.
Anyone ever try it before? I'm hoping I wouldn't have to take the motherboard out and/or solder anything!

Unfortunately the motherboard i have is broke and it doesnt start up. I thought it was the charging port so i cant help you out. You can buy a new board for 99 dollars though or just buy a used broke one off ebay and switch the board out. It is very easy to do and there are videos on you tube. People have used ones for cheap with broke lcds or screen burn. Buy one of those and switch out the top board cause that is all you need. I have all the other parts but my main board has something wrong with it. If you do that just make sure you get the same model number cause i just bought a verizon one and the motherboard wont work with my att one. I have 2 att ones that i was able to swap out.
