[Q] A few questions - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought a used htc desire z a week ago, here are my few questions.
1. How to do I know if my trackpad led is working? I sent multiple sms to myself and the trackpad led just doesn't light up. I'm using rcmic3D rom.
2. Should I get invisibleshield? I never used water based protectors before, so I don't know how to paste it on my device, bodyguard have a dry application full body protection film to but will that come off easier than water based protection?
3. Does invisibleshield make your phone sticky? After applying invisible shield, some of the liquid thing that makes the film stick to your phone comes out, does that liquid thing make yuor phone sticky?

Had mine for a yr now and due to the gorilla glass used in our devices, I still havnt had a single scratch.

I heard some models don't have gorrilla glass

I've got a rooted stock g2 rom and it blinks the trackpad led. Probably won't work on every custom rom.

My device has gorilla glass, it looks as flawless as the day I got it (a year ago), and I've never used a screen protector. I've never heard of anyone with this phone that doesn't have this particular glass.
The trackpad *should* flash every six seconds or so whenever you have a notification... most ROMs have settings for this option somewhere.

I had invisible shield for my screen for little time, it doesn't leave anything when taken of, but it makes screen ugly, not so clear, and its not smooth to slide fingers on it. Did i fail installing/or what the hell was wrong? i don't know, but i'm not getting another one.
After that i got copter display film, it's based on the same stuff invisible shield is. But it was smoother and looked better.
After a while i got otterbox case, it came whit display film, so i placed it on my phone. The touch works perfectly whit this, its super clear. I'm keeping this as long as it stays on. Film has bunch of little scratches, but i cant see them when the screen is on.

scratch on my screen

Hello everybody,
I know they are a lot of post about this scratches, but yesterday, I've made a scratch in my screen, and I don't know what I must do? Can I try with tooth Pasta, or is it too dangerous? Or there other efficient products, for screens like the desire?
Thanks,
Thomas
A good screen protector may effectively hide it
Hello,
Yes i've heared this, I will but a screen protector. But do you know if it's possible to make this scratch really "disippear"??
no. you cannot "compound" out the scrath using toothpaste. you will more than likley make the screen much worse trying this. just live with it and put on a protector. Did you find out how you scratched it? keys? sand? grit? dirt? The screen seems quite tough against everyday things, so it must have been a piece of salt/sand or some other cuboid.
yes, i was very surprised when i saw that scratch. I had nothing in my pocket when it happened. Just maybe sand.
I've tried all kind of household remedies on my old phone once I changed it: the only result was perhaps that it lost transparency on the whole screen, but the scratch remained mostly there. Yes, toothpaste is probably the only thing that will do something to it but you have to push so hard while using it that you will end up damaging the smooth screen around the scratch
If you really want to try, then Brasso, not toothpaste. But I would put a protector on. Some say a dab of vaseline on the scratch can "fill it"
I did hear t cut should do it. I scratched mine while waiting for my zag screen, luckily the phone was faulty and kept crashing so orange replaced it so getting a new phone repaired my scratch lol. Zag screen arrived same day as new phone, do they ever stop feeling tacky mines been on nearly a week?

Do NOT use toothpaste or brasso on the screen. You can't repair scratches on glass without specialised equipment. The toothpaste/brasso buffing remedy only works on plastics.
Is there any dust under the screen? If there is, HTC will replace it for you as that was a known problem with the first few batches.

I'm doubtful they do, cant verify this. I got a refund from Zagg and just got a Martin Fields protector (same price as zagg for twin pack on mobilefun), and I can report a much better experience; the feel is so close to the original the difference will be easily forgotten (if noticed at all), it was a damn sight easier to fit (2-5mins, no bubbles and no dust (if you're careful)), v. clear, and is washable/reusable.
Can recommend!
ok, thank you for all those answers. I will to try change my Desire with an new one in the shop were I bought it. He's only 1 week old, it's not normal to have a scratch, with a normal use.

Dirty screen

Does anyone else have a problem with fingerprints on their dhd screen?
When cleaning the screen the prints just smudge rather than wipe off.
I dont want to use any screen protectors due to air bubbles in them and reducing touchscreen sensitivity.
Does anyone have any tried and tested methods to reduce marks or at least an easy way of cleaning.
Thanks

I've had a screen protector on my DHD for 9 months and it doesn't cause any issues and there are no bubbles. I went to an HTC store and let the "professional" install it. I'm sure the service will vary, but the guy that did mine really knew what he was doing. In fact he had trouble with the 1st film and threw it away and started over with a 2nd film, no extra charge.
I clean my screen almost daily using a cleaner made for glasses (the kind you wear) and wipe it with a cloth also for glasses. That doesn't appear to have had any adverse affect after 9 months.
Not sure if that helps...

I am using screen protector from day 1 on my Desire HD. Never had any issues.
I install it myself (this is like installing protectors for almost 5 years, and I change them in every 6 months)...
Use that, good for screen protection.
Thanks for the advice. Due to the cost I will buy some. If I don't like them I can throw them away without losing anything.
Are the screen protectors you use finger print resistant. And if so, are they actually resistant? Thanks

Invisible shield is really good. Plus lifetime replacements and you can get professional installs

I use Copter screen protectors. I think its far superior to anything else. Invisible shield is too thick and provides too much friction.
My experience is that screenprotecter is no need for, because when u treat your phone good and have a case and not keys in same pocket as your dhd then it will almost not get any scratches and the ones it get are not really visible to the eye.
Oh yeah I use the cleaning for glasses to clean the dhd, it works great but the screen will have fast finger prints again anyway.
Just to update.
i bought some screen protectors off ebay. £1.65. for10. So really cheap. Very slight reduction to sensitivity to touch screen. No problem though.
best of all no fingerprints (so far anyway )
thanks for the advice guys.

Use a micro fibre cloth.

micro fibre cloths proved no better than any other. a standard duster seemed best.
Have a little trick if you are applying the screen protector yourself.
Damp a clth and wipe the screen. After that there most probably wouldn't be any bubbles

The guys at the HTC store use clear tape to hold one end of the film to allow lifting it easily if it's not quite right on the first try.

[Q] Gorrila glass or not?

I have had DHD for a while now and I cant stop wondering about this. Now that my cheap screen protector is getting messed up and I know it is a pain in the ass for me to replace it properly on my own. So I thought if it had Gorrila Glass then I would just take the film off and be done with it.
After some googling, GSMarena says it does.
Corning says it does.
Some youtube videos likely proved it does.
But, HTC says it doesn't.
Some users had scratched screen so it probably doesn't
Well, I don't know who to believe, anyone has real info on this? Or know of any drop test videos of DHD? I can't find any on tube.
I don't think so I got some light scratches on it, but it has a god damn good screen. I dropped it a few times and it hasn't broken once, sometimes it even hitted directly the ground with the screen.
I only got 1 small very small scratch in the corner but that one isn't deep or something...
Yes, Gorilla Glass

Gorilla glass does not mean the screen will not get scratched. Gorilla glass is a material which is hard to break and when it gets broken it does not split into pieces. So it does not harm your phone's board. Btw I believe in Corning cuz the answers from HTC mail service is funny all the time (they dont have information about everything but they should reply all the Qs

I had a Otterbox commuter case for xmas which comes with a little tool (small bit of plastic) to aid installation of the screen cover/protector.
I took my old case of, took off the old screen cover/protector and the screen underneath of the actual phone screen was still in ABSOLUTELY PERFECT condition....not even a spec of dust on it.
Best investment ever is a screen protector....my old protector was in a hell of a state.....imagine if i didn't have it on.....phone screen would be scratched and marked to hell and back.
On went the new screen cover/protector then the awesome Otterbox case.
Get on Ebay and buy a screen protector...only £1-£2 each deslivered..maximum.
Pi$$ easy to fit...bubbles easy to get out with supplied tool or a credit card.

Gorilla glass should protect the phone pretty well, but I would use a screen protector just in case.

I'm using screen protector too. I have a decade of habit of dropping phones from all kinda places. N95 was chewed by my dog.
Anyway, screen protector is pain in the *## to install but worth it - but depends of a person.
Because they are so cheap I buy them in pairs usually and first try is almost every time a bust. I need them changing about every two months.

[Q] Xperia Arc screen help.!

Hello, found a few scratches on my Xperia Arc screen and got very disappointed, I thought it had scratch resistant screen, later I took a close look to the screen and found out that it had one more screen layer, could anyone tell me if it can be removed or not, because when I asked SE support team, the operator told me that it can be removed, I just wont a suggestion, help guys.
I would not touch that layer it is part of the capacitive sensor on the screen if I'm not mistaken
yeah, I'm afraid of that too, but support team convinced me in opposite
Yes, you can remove it without problems. I did it in December without problems so far.
Sent from my iPad 2 using Tapatalk
how did you remove it? any suggestions to peel it off? It's a bit hard to do that ( with nails )
With my nails
It takes a while to pick up a corner, but once you got a corner picked up it's easy.

Part of capacitive sensor ?? Lol
Anyways..it's just a screen protector..if got scratched,replace it with a new one..
And in this case,i would suggest you to seek some professional help as you might end up making new scratches in order to remove the protector. It's a tough job and needs a lot of love and care d(^_^)
Thank you all, I did it, it really was a screen protector, if found layer like this on your arc , you should peel it off, as a result you get Better colors, touchscreen enhancement and sharper image.
I dont think that we should remove the screen guard. SE provides two screen guards with the handset. One comes already pasted on ur handset and other comes in the box. we need not remove it as it keeps the main screen safe from scratches..
I really agree with your, but that screen protector makes touchpad less sensitive and colors are less vivid, so I prefer being extra careful with my phone then looking at Less Attractive screen
Last time I checked the screen protector I have on doesn't change the quality, clearness or the color of the display. Just saying.
Protect your screen with one. Most of them now a good and leave your screen feeling normal.
i know its an old question but anyway i have one question.how hard is it to peel of the screen protector? im trying it right now and im afraid of braking something, should i force it off or what?
It is glued there so you may have to use some force to peel it off.

[REQ] Zagg HD Dry vs. Wet Install

Anybody have any comparisons? I just installed the hd dry on my device but I don't think I like it. Clarity wise though it's almost like it's not there. Anybody know if the hd wet install is as clear? Asking cause my install left tons of bubbles (which will probably go away in a day since it's fresh) but the big issue is that it stretched. This is already causing issues with cases I have.

I haven't tried the Zagg Wet install, but i read that theZagg Dry install isn't that great.
I currently have a Spigen NeoFlex (Wet install) on my s8, and it really clear. The touch is kind of soft though.
So far from every wet install that I've used (clearplex, G Color, and Spigen) it felt really soft when you touch the screen, which isn't too bad, but its not even close as good as the actual feel of the glass.
I'm not sure if Zagg Wet install screen protectors are the same, but I'd assume they are.
How does the back glass fit and feel on the HD dry? I sometimes grab one for the back only. But I need to know if you feel the edges of it or not.
