Anyone been testing different basebands? - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys just curious now that we have a flashtool to flash only basebands have any of you been testing different builds/ basebands out for improved signal/ battery life? I started doing a little testing last week but haven't gone too nuts yet I started with the .42 build stock(now .42 doomkernel 8) with full charge and went whole day using it like I normally would and the battery drains horribly fast. Tried same build with -58 baseband and signal/ battery improved A LOT, now I'm trying same build with -36 baseband and battery seems to be even better yet! But I'll know more this time tomorrow. Anyway if you try some combinations out post your findings here! I'll most likely do it all over again so I can post screen shots of each combo I do. Have fun guys.

Hi Thatsupnow. Whats the update on the testing. Was thinking of flashing the .36 baseband too. Just wanted to know what your thoughts were on the battery life with the .36 baseband after having used if for a while. Thanks.

shaynethepain have a look at the doomkernel thread.... Current v10 kernel and baseband -36 is meant to be best known combination at the moment, not tested it yet but will try it out in a few days time.

Thats my plan too. Just flashed the baseband. Will test it for a while and then update to Doomlords V10. On his advanced stock kernel now and the phones just great ATM.

[Q] Latest, safest radio for Telus DHD?

What is the best radio for the Telus DHD? Im having battery drainage issues
bump.
would like better battery life
I would also like to know the Safe radio options for Telus DHD
I have seen a few dotted around and some that are reccommended to gain the best peformance with specific roms (revolution for example) But i know changing the radio can sometimes be risky.
Thanks in advance.
oh and equlizer have you tried wiping battery memory, that worked a charm for me...

Glad to hear it!
Ive been trying to find posts with people advising against radio, or recommending the best fit (or general) radio compatibility with the Canadian Version of the Phone but i'm having no luck,,,
So far are the DHD radio's have the ability to be rolled back without issue?
Are there any specific radios that seem to brick the canadian version of the DHD?
does anyone have a definate answer?!
I think it depends on which rom you are using

Hi,
My radio is 12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M and I installed a Stock-rooted Gingerbread ROM.
It came with a radio but I didn't flash it (Mabe I was scared or just wanted to test the ROM first who know...) the fact is since then, my battery life as improved and the radio signal is good enough that I didn't flash it.
(24-32 hours of autonomy with a good use of my device)
Should I think again and flash the new radio anyway ?
here is the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1059563

Radio (12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M)
I live near Ottawa, but in a lower reception area, and I have been trying radios trying to get a good mix of reception and battery life.
Currently I'm using "Radio_12.35d.60.140f_26.06.03.24_M2 - TELUS WWE 1.84.661.1" and the corresponding RIL on Leedroid GB rom. It seems ok for now, but if anyone has tried a bunch of radios and can suggest their own best results for us Canadian desire owners, I would be much appreciated!
a fellow telus dhd owner here in edmonton. i'm using the latest radio (check sig) with g ril on cm7 with great results. i was using hm ril's for a bit and the device had very poor performance (calls cutting in and out, slow gps sat lock, wifi/3g sporadic disconnect/reconnect, etc). all that has been remedied by just flashing a g ril instead of a hm ril.
i think it'd be good to remind everyone that matching your radio and ril to your rom type (i.e. sense vs asop) is also important. from what i've read, use g for asop and hm for sense roms. it sure made a difference for me.
Thank you for the good advice. I switched up to the newest radio and ril and they seem the best for me I am still interested to know what others agree having success with here in Canada

I'm a fairly new user, got my Telus DHD (first Android) in the beginning of april, I live in Montreal, and took the entire phone apart within the first week. Tried a whole bunch of roms, then learned the hard way that Sense roms are like beautiful girls in bars at 2 am, they get you excited at first but then it's all disappointment... Lately I've been playing a lot with cyanogen nightlies, and I've been trying to find the best battery life possible.
So far the best I got was CM7.1 RC1 with Radio_12.35d.60.140f_26.06.03.24_M2 - TELUS WWE 1.84.661.1
That would last me over 35 hours very consistently with heavy use, screen on and lots of data (3G)
I tried pretty much all other radios on the latest nightlies (right now #170) and haven't found anything as good as 26.06.03.24_M2. I am in the process of reflashing that one while on this nightly to see if things will go back to what I had.
When you know your rom (and apps running) are not draining the battery, is the radio/ril the only other variables that affect battery life ? In other words, would the same radio/RIl drain the same regardless of the rom you're using ?
(forgot to mention I flash Alienmind's stuff over that, so I also use LordModUE v6.9.2 kernel and I change the OC to 122min/1.3max and use Brazilianwax (that governor seems so far seems to be the best)

[Q] CM7 kernel + radio

Does anyone have any recommendations for a kernel (that supports 2way call recording) and a radio (that works well on the vodafone australia network, if they are network specific), as I did a bit of searching but there isn't really any recommendations, eg should I always go with the latest radio etc, or quite what..
Any help would be much appreciated.
I was looking at "LorDModUE V8.5" -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1085725
I'm unsure which radio though...
Lordmod is definitely a good kernel, and it has a 2-way call recording option
As for radio, I assume you've seen this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877295
I know that some Vodafone phones are shipped with the 26.09.04.11_M2 radio, so you would assume that Vodafone know what they're doing and have used that radio for a reason. I'm using that one now and it has good reception and battery life (although I'm with Optus. There's only so much a radio can do to help out poor Vodafail )
In the end though, if you're comfortable with the process you should test a couple out because it might be different for your phone

Yeah, ended up running his CFS kernel with 2-way recording.
Yep seen that thread, ended up running 12.65.60.29_26.14.04.28_M for now, just because it has some good reports.
Haha I know, vodafone is terrible, just had a cheap plan which did what I want with the phone I wanted at the time
It's stupid that in UK vodafone is rather good, and alot of other places. *sigh*
Thanks though, may go through and test them if I don't like how this radio goes..

No worries mate. The only reason I'm using my current radio at the moment is because I saw some DHD's were shipped with it here, so I thought I'd give it a go to see if it makes a difference to call quality. I found the 26.13.04.19_M was a bit dodgy on the call quality although battery life was very good. Let me know how your one goes, I might consider another change!

Yeah you should check out blackice, and the other CM7 mods, there's some good tweaks and improvements made in all of them. And battery life is amazing

Hi, I am using CM7.1 Stable at the moment. But with stock kernel and 26.13.04.19 radio. I had 26.14.04.28 installed on my DHD before, but found it drains too much battery (I might be wrong through and the culprit could be some of my apps or setting.)
Could you please tell me how it goes in your DHD? Battery life good?
Just want to see if it is the radio or the apps caused battery drain.
I tried the stock one. Works well. The regional stock one.

The battery is draining fairly fast, going to test the stock one you're using against the one I'm using at the moment.
I'm using 26.14.04.28 at the moment and it's the best so far. However, I'm not sure whether with different radio shouldn't come different RIL to prevent battery drains (and where to get such RILs for CM).

An update for you.
My most recent battery tests have had crazy good results. I got an overnight drain of about 0.3% per hour!
The setup is:
Radio: 26.09.04.11_M2
RIL: 2.2.1003G
Kernel: LordModUEv8.6-CFS-b5
ROM: a recent BlackICE KANG
So if you're getting high drain still, you could give this a try. I won't be changing anything for a while, I don't want to lose these amazing results!

No worries. Keep in mind that radios act differently for every location so your mileage may vary. But I hope it's a winning combo for you!
@maatsby, i have the same config like your's, but with the 26.14.04.28M the internet connection is faster than 26.09.04.11M2. I seek issues but don't find. Just the ril in g mode to get in the folder blackice isn't exist imo.

ICS & battery

Is anyone else experiencing major battery drain on the latest leak of ICS? If so, what have you done to improve battery life? All I know is battery life was great on GB, and this is with heavy use, but now its really bad. I need to have my charger with me at work because it dies in about 5 hours.
Also, I noticed Facebook will not allow me to post status updates in native app, but if I have a widget, I can post from the widget with no problems. Is there a fix for this, or do I just have to wait for Facebook to be ICS compatible?
Thanks in advance.

Are you running a stock FD02 with stock kernel? Battery life seems the same as FC24 and better than FC22. It is a bit worse than GB but its not really done yet so I cant complain.
A long time ago I found facebook app to be a huge battery killer. This was on another phone and 2.2 so maybe its improved since then but I doubt it. Quite frankly if you can live without facebook all together your quality of life will improve.
does the rouge fc22 kernel gives a better battery life? im tempted to flash it and see how it works? anybody has tried it. Im on calks 1.4 rom

Modems are phone-dependent. Someone may have great speed on FC22 but someone else may not even have 3g on the same modem. You have to test yourself. I get best battery on EL29, but with my last E4GT I got better on EL26.
I have tried a few ics roms and battery life was worse than gb on most and i think that is expected. Ive been rumming venum's AnaKonda rom and i am currently at 37% after 16 hours of medium use.
Edit: fc24 modem and dazednconfused theme.

How to Upgrade HTC EVO 4g to 4.0 ICS

Is it possible? I don't really like gingerbread..2.3.5
If ur phone is rooted then flash an ics rom.

Check out the guide i posted to get rooted http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1771755
then flash a custom ICS Rom. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1732569 - TeamDirt Remics (Remix) ics port
or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1625096 unofficial cm9 nightlies
However, the front facing camera and few other features do not work on EVO with ICS... ... Do your research before installing.
ICS
I am new to posting as I've always had help flashing new ROMs on my phone. I'm out of luck and out of help with my phone. I have the HTC EVO on Sprint and loaded the latest ICS 2.0 CM9. This ROM and the previous ICS versions have all sucked the battery life beyond what is talked about on these forums. Everything else works great as all the posts say, but my battery life is TERRIBLE. I cannot go 5 hrs without my phone about to die with hardly any usage.
Notable things. It only happens when I am not on WiFi. My battery also heats up during the times the battery is draining. The health of the battery is fine as I've tried several different batteris.
Kernel Version 2.6.38.8 -Mason-El-0.1.5-RC5-sbc
CM Version - PapaSmurf 51 Smurfed Out CM9 2.0
Should I be trying to flash a new kernel, radio? If so, where is the latest downloads? I have been trying to a find the most stable ICS version that will not suck the battery life out of my phone.

Four digit battery percentage

Recently flashed cm12, deathly kernel, and nitro mod. Everything is real smooth on the gb model except for my battery percentage being ridiculous. I can't get a realistic estimate on battery life because of this. Any suggestions on a fix?
