Basically I wanna install that mod I have a rooted r800i. O understand u have to flash the system hi Rom.zip but what apps do I need and how do I install this.....
Sent from my R800i using XDA App
When it says you have to flash a zip file you dont do it in adb you do it from the phone using clockwork mod recovery, this allows you to change system settings easily with one file (the .zip) as i suspect you haven't unlocked your bootloader you just extract the file to your memory card (usually a system.apk file) use a program such as root explorer on your phone, copy the file to the /system/ path change the permissions like it says on the mod page, and move the file into /system/app
restart the phone and it should be there.
However if you unlocked your bootloader and installed a custom recovery/kernel you could just select the .zip you downloaded and apply it to the system, and its done.
I just followed this...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1207310&highlight=install+in+recovery&page=2
...as was suggested in the notification toggle thread.
All done in less than a minute and working perfectly - no flashing necessary.

Alright guys/gals.My question here is this.Using unvevoked3 and not updating to the new OTA update is okay? I'm still having problems with sync not syncing? Thats cause i have not updated yet. Will my phone be alright without the update even though i want it..I cant seem to update it to my evo.Either no one helps or its not in plain English for some of us that dont have the experience rooting or unrooting.
What do you all think? Anyone in the same boat as me.? They say put the file on your sdcard root file.Where in the hell is that?
**** does happen and im in deep **** without the update.
Ok this should be easy. If u are unrevoked and u are full rooted running a custom Rom then just flash the update. There should be a post with the zip that u can flash in recovery to apply the update. If not then just wait for your custom Rom to be updated to the next version with will be surely base on the latest ota. Like u said it's def.ly not a big deal.
BUT:
If u are running stock or want to remain on a stock Rom just flash the rooted 2.2 base on the new OTA, Can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=789913
Edit: came across this, should help you also http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=790394

Ok if u have it on your SD then that's easy providing that u got clockwork mod or another custom recovery. Just boot your phone into recovery, I use quickbot. U can also use Rom manager to boot your phone into recovery and also flash a clockwork recovery . Once in recovery just go to flash update from zip, then select the zip(should be the one on your sd) confirm and then reboot. You're done.
Edit:
Putting it on the root of your sd simply means drag and drop it to the main folder on your sd card, where u see all the other files and folder. Just open up your sd card in a browser(double click removing disk from my computer) and also the folder on the computer where u have the file. Then drag and drop it on your sd card. Where u dropping the files is the root of ur sd, hope this helps.

Get to SD root - connect your EVO to your PC through USB and mount it through disk drive from the notification bar then drag your update file onto the SD card, i.e. on my windows laptop, root would be the window "Computer->Removable Disk (G: )
To flash - power off then hold vol down + power button to get into hboot and then select recovery. once there, select flash zip from sd card and select your update file. let it finish and you should be able to reboot into the updated rom.
*quick boot is an app from the market that allows you to easily reboot into recovery for rooted phones

Michael this is an invalid file name. U do not have to rename or alter any thing with the update file. The file is already a zip file so the extension is already a .zip file. Any file that is zip will always be for example 'filename.zip'. you adding a .zip to the file name will make the file unacceptable as there is no .zip.zip file. Just leave the original file you downloaded as is. Once in recovery you can then follow the same steps you mentioned. Go to choose zip from sd card,u will see the zip file on the sd,select it then confirm and install. U should be fine if u follow these steps.

Just for the record... On Windows boxen, the default options for your filemanager,
is: Hide extensions for known filetypes
Translated:
If windows shows the correct icon for the file, it knows what type of file it is, and therefore will hide it's extension - in your case; .zip
Stupid, I know (Windows).
So, when you see the file "Update", and it shows an icon indicating that windows knows it's a .ZIP file. You will know that the filename is actually:
Update.zip - not just "Update" as you see in filemanager.
Bottom line; file has the correct icon in filemanager, it's extension hidden.
File has a generic icon, then file is unknown, and probably shows it's extension.

there is an app to remove program like htc gallery, peep, teeter, google talk, friend stream from a stock 2.2 rooted?
if i want to remove an app from a rom (before flashing it) i have just to delete the apk inside the zip? (from data/app and system/app)
there is a list of app can't be uninstalled
if i want to add an app to a rom just place the apk inside the zip in data/app? os system/app?
tnx
isnt there a app to remove lilke absolute system root tool?
As long as you are still S-on you can't remove anything form the system partition while booted. If you want to remove stuff while S-on you need to do it via ADB in recovery or, like you mentioned, by removing them from the zip before flashing. Just make sure you don't unzip the zip file but just open it and edit the zip and that signature verification (in recovery) has to be disabled.
If you are s-off you can use Root explorer (or Estrong can do it as well I believe and there are probably a lot of other file managers that can do it also) to remove stuff from the system partition. If you know your way around with terminal you can also use a terminal emulator or ADB shell. Don't forget, in all cases, to mount the system partition as r/w and the changes won't take effect until you reboot.

Basically I want to install these mods: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1287810
I have the stock rooted kernel (found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1282415) which doesn't include CWM. Is there a way to install these mods without flashing through CWM?
Thanks.
I heard that rom manager now support our phone, it installs latest CWM version 5.0.2.7
I usually use adb push
Looks like you need a custom kernel for Rom Manager to work right now.
Can I just replace the files on my phone with these files and reboot?
use Odin to flash custom kernel with cwm compiled. lostkernel or zedomax's kernel both got cwm.

Yes but can I install these WITHOUT CWM?

No without custom recovery which is what cwm is you can not flash anything that is not signed by samsung .....you could flash an update through the samsung recovery but everything else will fail signature check .....that is why we use odin and clockwork mod
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Technically yes you can. You would have to know how and where to push everything via adb but if you don't know or are uncomfortable I would definitely avoid it.
Hey romanodog you get CWM with stock rooted kernal without having to odin anything. All you have to do is do the following:
1. Go to the thread called " Lets Get Rid of that Yellow Triangle" (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1297999)
Note: with the root method you used you wont have the yellow triangle but this is necessary to get cwm on stock kernal.
2. Download and extract the the zip called "chris41g.devphone.org/LoStKernel/FlashzImage.zip" to your desktop or directory of choice
3. now open this folder and delete the file called zImage
4. go to this thread called "Stock Pulled Repacked with CWM5" (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1305099)
4. download the StockCWM5.zip file and extract this new zImage to the folder FlashzImage
5. run the bat file
Note: after you replace the zImage you can pretty much follow the how to video done by QbKing77 (thank him) in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1297999
cool thanks man, I will have to try that out
you can do all the mods without cwm quite easily.
just take the files from inside the zip and use a file browser to copy them to the phone.
i use es file explorer mostly, its free and lets you access the root partition.
available in the market.
(you can also use the adb push command if comfortable with a command line from the pc or a terminal emulator such as connectbot from the phone)
the trick is just figuring out where the files go. luckily when you unzip the mod you'll get folders such as
meta-inf
system
ignore the meta-inf
its the system folder you want
system> which will usually contain something like app and framework folders
just copy those files to /system/app and /system/framework viola! either overwriting the files already there or better yet backup those files or rename them first.
no cwm needed but you do need root
p.s. also you may need to reboot for changes to take effect

Then
Running ICS 4.1.1 but with these problems :
1. When i go to set a ringtone it open my file browser (ES File Explorer) to select a file (!) and not the common ringtone list. Like there's no ringtones in phone.
2. I restored contacts successfully but there aren't sorted in groups as i had it. (Friends, Family etc)
3. I cannot delete some folders and files in my sdcard (like my rom backup - i have stored this in my pc btw)
4. I cannot root again using SuperSU (failed)
Any help about any of above would appreciate it. Thank you

1. The ES File Explorer is set as the default application that is opened when you want to select a ringtone.
Go to Settings, Apps, ES File Explorer, then press clear defaults. It should now ask you which application you want to use to select a ringtone.
2. You will have to do this again manually, unless you have your contacts on google or another service.
3. I'm not sure about this. Try deleting them by connecting to a PC.
4. You need to use a new version of SuperSU, I've attached it in this post.
Enjoy Jelly Bean!

Thank you very much! I have another question about the attached app. It's a zip file which contains META Information and binaries in a System folder. So i have to place the binaries at the right place in my phone (obviously at /system/xbin , /system/app ) right? And the META folder goes where?

No do not extract the Zip file!
If you have ClockWordMod installed simply boot into it and use install zip file command from it, and locate the zipped file (on your phone memory).
If you do not have CWM, use fastboot to boot into CWM (you can find that information on some other threads), and install the zip file from there.
Follow these steps: (except with the above zip file)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26328017&postcount=123
You have to copy over the zip file to your phone first, then boot into CWM, and install the zip file.

All Good! But i noticed another "problem" now.. in my Gallery i have a folder named "imageDownloader" who contains 700+ photos. I delete them all and after reboot it exists again. What is that anyway?
update: The images belongs to a folder named "07-11-2012_21-01" , it seems to be cached data of the app "Thumb". This folder is created by the backup, is located in sdcard and i can't delete it, even through my pc.. i don't know why :/
Unable to connect to Wireless N-only or 5GGz networks after update
I've been unable to connect to my home network on either band in the 'N' mode since updating to Jelly Bean. I have no problems seeing both networks and it says they're "saved", but when I click connect, it doesn't proceed to "authenticating" or obtaining an IP address.
I've tried several Custom ROMs with the same result, and I've never had this problem with any ICS versions and can regain connectivity by rolling back the update.
I've tried low-level troubleshooting (no network encryption, MAC reservation, multiple reboots, etc.) with no luck. I'm currently forced in a mixed N/G mode on 2.4 GHz to use my Wi-Fi.
There have been occasional reports of this over the last year or so on various platforms, but I'm wondering if there's any software/files, etc. that can be tweaked or looked at to see where this issue is manifested.
I cannot delete some files located in my /sdcard. I tried through "Root Browser" , through my PC... nothing worked :/ Any help please?

Hi,
I need to install HTC's Locations app on any custom ROM (ie: MyOneV or CM9/CM10)
So any1 can help me with this ?
(i tried it though, by moving these files (from MyOneV5.0FX Removed apks) htclocation.apk,locationpicker.apk,locatiooninstaller.apk in System/app folder bt it didn't worked)
When you move those files to system app manually, you need to put right permission rw-r--r-- then reboot.
Or the simplest way is, open the Removed_Apks_RC5.x.zip with 7-zip (not extract), delete all apks that you don't need and leave those location files in zip.
Then flash the zip in recovery.
And these files will not work on a CM rom.

I tried that too, by removing all apks from zip keeping the said three files & flash it in recovery, still it doesn't appeared in apps!
Though i'll try again may b missed something or some file..
I just tried it, it works.
Your filename looks different, attached here the files from the Removed_Apks_RC5.x.zip, I named it to location.zip. Flash in recovery.
It Worked: Thanx
