Wanting to webOS-ify the Galaxy Nexus experience - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I've been a Pre user for nearly 2 years now, and saddened by the current state of webOS. When the GN launches on VZW, it will be my next phone.
Thing is, there are a few UI/UX paradigms that I'd like to replicate if possible.
First, will I be able to add these settings into the notification drop-down so that I can enable/disable radios and adjust brightness on the fly? With my NOOK, I use a few widgets on a home screen to do it, but I hate that I have to hit home, change the settings, then pull up the task switcher to go back.

In webOS, you can simply swipe up from the notification area in order to open the app drawer. This can be done with ADW Launcher, but what about the stock ICS launcher?
That's all I have for now, I'll post more when I think of it

widgetsoid does exactly that what you want check the android market for the widgetsoid2.x i use it on my gn and works

Cyanogenmod which is a custom rom has these in the notification bar.

Yea there are options to add toggles to the notification window. Android doesn't have this stock but widgetsoid does this. Technically it is a homescreen widget but it has options to put the toggles in the drop-down pane.
I use it on my Transformer (honeycomb). It should be compatiable but I don't have a SGN yet (waiting on Verizon).
Outside of the above, custom roms will include them in. Also check out something like "Stabusbar 2" or something. It's a replacement statusbar that I think also has this feature. I haven't used this one yet.

There's a settings toggle in the notification tray, if that helps

To adjust brightness in Android 2.2 or greater just slide your finger along the notification bar or long press where you want to set brightness to. (Autobrightness needs to be off)

This is part of CM and some Samsung skins I believe... Neither of which the Galaxy Nexus has.

so the best is get widgetsoid for example and then configure it so that you get in the notification bar all the settings you want
only thing that it doesnt work is to turn off data connection besides of data everything works

Would you (or someone else here) mind describing how to set this up? I can create desktop widgets, but how do I move them into the notifications center?

Is there a battery icon available like I have in the OP?

if you mean the "power widgets" on notifications, you'd need to get the latest CM9 Kangs to offer it. It's still a work in progress.
If you're referring to the one on your home screens, then +1 to joshnichols189. Widgetsoid works well.

yes, widgetsoid works for notifications toggles too, but some of the toggles aren't working for the GN yet, and there is no LTE toggle either
Speaking of power control. Any of you got reboot working from widgetsroid? If I am hijacking the thread let me know and I start elsewhere.

Widgetsoid can be used as a power widget - there is a 'how to' in the help section of the app.

Is there anyway to remove the widgetsoid icon from the notification bar? Initially I had it set to be invisible, but then when I had other icons in the status bar, the blank space where the invisible icon actually was annoyed the crap out of me. So I disabled the invisibility option so at least all the icons will look uniform...but I'd still rather get rid of it completely. Or find a different widget that works in the notification bar. Anyone know if Extended Control notification widgets have been updated to work with ICS as well as Honeycomb?

Probably a silly question but how do you get the widgetsoid in the notification bar? For me it just shows up as a bunch of widgets that I can choose.
Go into the appdrawer, scroll to widgets, choose widgetoid switcher and drag it onto your home screen. A config window will pop up where you can choose the contols you want. At the bottom of that window you need to open advanced and tick notification and widget invisible.
Wow thanks that worked great. So by default we can only do 4 of them I guess? In one screenshot the guy has 7. On my Thunderbolt with CM7 I have 6 (not widgetsoid).
It will be great once flashlight and 4g toggles work for us!

you can do as many as u want. choose the 4x1 setting but it is not relevant if adding to notify bar. just add more and they will adjust in size to fit the bar.
wow! I haven't used Widgetsoid in awhile but that is a neat feature they implemented in. I was using CM7's Power Widget and never paid attention to it.
i've been using Widgetsoid as a notification bar and wanted to know if it was possible to remove the icon up the upper left corner altogether. i know there's a way to make it invisible, but it shifts my other icons to the right which drives me crazy. is it possible to remove the icon completely?
The difference I see from CM7 is that the toggles would stay at the top. With widgetsoid the toggles will be below the notifications. However, I now can have some applications and shortcuts in there which is awesome.
This works much better on ics then gb.

[APP][DEV] Notification Shortcuts v0.1 (update)

Hi all,
I just wanted to show my first android app I developed. It is a bit similar as notification toggle, but I just developed it to learn java/android.
You can set 3 different settings as notification toggles (wifi, screen rotation, bluetooth), seems unnecessary for cm9/7
You can set any app as a shortcut
always-on-top accessibility service
notification panel folds when shortcut is selected
Please tell me want you think of it, i only tested it on cm10.

I have got a freeze with but perhaps, it's because I have been too fast in pushing the toggles... By cons, it will be good that the launching of applications closes the panel of notification in same time.
Nice app bro. It works well on Team NYX RC5. Tested with Wifi and Bluetooth. If you implement GPS toggle, Flashlight and Sound toggle, it will be a very good app.
Keep up the good work.

Nice work mate! I've been looking for this since I had JKay on a Samsung ROM, but I would never go back to Samsung from CM9
Is there any way to hide the blank notification icon in the status bar? I assume this is inherent to the way the shortcuts are loaded as a notification.
Also, how's it going with the auto-close drawer update?
Great

that's finished already, but need to make some more changes, for making it more memory efficient.
But i thought nobody was really interested
it is not possible to hide it, i might change it to a logo. It is also not possible to make 2g/3g or GPS switch due to android policy (even with root). Only a shortcut is possible to the settings page
For info:
This application works on Jelly Bean for bluetooth (on/off), it works too for Wi-Fi (on/off)!
Think you can add other as standby Toggle for example?
up
updated version:
Notification panel folds after app selection
Accessibility service added for always-on-top
A slightly better layout of the notification shortcuts
the accessibility service should be enabled if you want the notification shortcuts to be always-on-top of the notification panel.

[MOD] Stock JB Launcher (various mods)

I couldn't find any stock launcher mods that were simply a single homescreen and/or rotation enabled. After poking around enough I've managed to create them!

Single Screen
Single Screen mods require you to disable "Automatically add widget." in market settings. Not doing so will cause force closes when a new app is downloaded.

You're welcome! I just wish I could fix the reason for the force close on single screen launchers. There is a good work-around but I hate work-arounds.
My only thought was to delete every reference to the screen IDs beyond the one I left in then delete the public.xml and let it rebuild itself, but that caused a force close on boot.

Notification Toggles from the market will do that too. I like the look of Widgetsoid on previous post but I couldn't figure out how to use it right away and I downloaded it and Notification Toggles together so I never gave Widgetsoid a second look. Maybe I will now.
Just sucks that such a big feature was omitted in 4.2. I mean its one of the quickest most relevant features on the 4.1.2 rom. Neat and simple too. Guess I'll have to wait even long for 4.2

Those are for touchjizz roms. The OP is asking for AOSP 4.2.1 ROMs.
OP, in answer to your question, 4.2 is still very new (to us at least) and the devs are working on it. TBH, I actually like the hidden toggles that 4.2 has.

That's a good suggestion, but do you guys not see what I'm saying? I don't mind waiting for it to happen but basically the way the 4.1.2 was setup was that the notification bar/toggles were available on 1 singular easy pull down. 4.2 has it so that notifications is one pull down and settings->toggles are another screen. It's just annoying to do that with something you use so frequently. Unncessary and bad design on google's part. Hopefully independent ROM designers are listening up.

Actually, most people like how clean it is. Additionally, the only way they wouldn't show up is if you HAVE a notification. Otherwise, the toggles come straight down.

App drawer from Nav bar

Hi trying to free up room and get priority shortcuts in Nav bar. Anyone know how to open the app drawer from the Nav bar? Opening apex itself obviously not. I've looked in activities as well but nothing
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
It doesn't go on the nav bar, but WavLauncher will complete this function. You set it up how you want it to be brought up - my app drawer opens if I hold my finger in the right spot for 2 seconds. It's not a launcher replacement either, even though it sounds like it, you still use whatever launcher you choose.

You probably have to leave it running as the default launcher (similar to WidgetLocker even though it's not actually a launcher) which has always caused nothing but problems for me.

It uses the persistent notification trick to stay in memory. Which I love in apps since I can just go into app info and uncheck the box to "show notifications for this app".
---------- Post added at 03:52 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:45 PM ----------
I guess I should have specified that it doesn't open up the regular app drawer, but it's own built in app drawer, which functions the same. I guess that could be a deal breaker.
Other than that I'm pretty sure you can set up a shortcut or rather an icon on the home screen that opens the actual real app drawer. For sure Nova has this option if stock doesn't.

Spot on but it's worth noting that the feature requires Prime.
So..best thing to do keep an icon to open the app drawer lol. Damn shame though. Thanks for the ideas though.

On some roms with built in navagation bar tweaking you can set apex actions as a shortcut on the navbar which brings up the app drawer.
Black bean and sourcery roms work for me when doing this

Get a rom that has navbar button replacement, and add a like hold recent apps button to open the drawer, or add an icon that is a shorcut to the drawer.
interesting...
Nova and Apex both have this option. In nova its under buttons and gestures. My screen with home button as app drawer.

Sourcery ROM has an option that allows you to hide to nav bar and all you do it swipe up on it to bring it back up. Here's a pic with the normal setting and one with the hidden nav bar enabled. I HIGHLY suggest Sourcery rom. Its available for all GNex variants, and imho, its the most stable and customizable rom out. And it has the best developer support out of all the roms I've flashed. Don't get me wrong, 99% of the roms I've flashed from XDA are bad a$$, and the devs are great, bit Sourcery is my rom of choice.
Edit: and you can add a soft key to your nav bar and select the option for it to open an app of your choice, including the app drawer.
