Hi,
i tried to hide folders from stock gallery with .nomedia, after deleting the contents of com.google.android.gallery3d and rebooting the folders are still present in gallery?!
Doesn't work for me either. Is there an alternative?
I am also having this issue. Anyone want to chime in?
I had this problem too. However this seems to work. I used ES File Explorer for this
1. Create the .nomedia file in the folder.
2. Rename the folder.
3. Open the Gallery app. It should start to rescan. Depending on how many files are there it will slowly reduce the file count as its scanning and then the folder will disappear once its gets to zero.
4. Rename the folder back to original name if you want.
Hope that works for everyone else.
Works! thx!

great, this worked for me. was tired of seeing all the cover albums show up on my gallery app.
Add a dot before the folder name
.folder for example
And it shouldn't be scanned

that's the cache under some special folder.

Hey, is there any way of preventing pics/videos in a certain folder showing up in the gallery?

Just put a .nomedia file in the folder where you have the pics and videos you want to hide.
You might already have this file in your sdcard (some ebook reader or other app that has pics not show in the gallery).
If not, just create an empty text file and rename it.

Doesnt work for me... Stil shows the folder.
It definitely works. Either your media files didn't update yet or you don't have a correct nomedia file...

Can confirm. This does work. Try restarting phone.
Tried it with a .nomedia file already but it didn't work. Gonna see if it needs to update though.
Rename the folder to .folder, the whole folder becomes in invisible.
Your other option is to install estrongs security thingy, which allows you lock down apps totally

I found the best way is to create a zip file and store them in that as it cannot see through a zip file. Has always worked for me, hope that helps

Can someone just rename this thread to 'how hide porn and pics of the bird your cheating with'
By the way. The ext partition is a good place to put 'sensitive' material. Gallery wont look there and it wont show up when plugged into a windows PC.
If I download a PDF file from the browser, it gets stored in the Download folder and I can open it with the downloads app. However if I copy a PDF file from my laptop directly to the Download folder (using MTP) the app does not see it. For music, copying to the Music folder works fine. What is the recommended method for copying files like this so they are accessible on the phone?

Have you tried using an explorer program like Astro to see if it's actually been copied to the device?
I can see and open the file with a file explorer (ES in my case) but my point is that surely it should not be necessary to use third party apps to view a PDF file? I found a thread on android central (I'd link to it but I'm too new to be trusted) that said the downloads app is an app for opening downloaded files only, i.e. presumably based on the browser history, and is not an interface to the Download folder.

That is correct. If you want to find a file in a particular folder including downloads, you'll either use to pdf app to browse for it or a file explorer to do the same. Downloads only gives you info of stuff you have downloaded through the phone.

I'm running the MoDaCo Ir13 4.0.4 ROM.
I can't take screenshots the ICS way (power + volume) because the "Pictures" folder seems to be read only or locked.
With any file manager, i can't write to, delete from (the modaco images folder), or rename anything in that folder.
Is there any way to fix this without reflashing the ROM?
Some people have renamed that folder and created a new one called pictures, which will work as it should.
The problem is you still can't delete the old folder even though you can rename it.

Thanks, thats worked.
I thought i tried renaming the MoDaCo folder inside the Pictures folder, and seem to remember it failing, but didn't think of renaming the original folder.
Does anybody know why it happens?
Is it possible to keep certain picture files from showing up in my gallery?
My problem is my gallery is flooded with pics from all my UCCW files , very cluttered it is !
Thanks for the help .
Yeah just name them something else the gallery won't be able to show like .txt. or you could mount USB to PC and select and delete any pics you don't want there.

If you create a file named .nomedia and place it in a folder, any pictures in that folder will not be shown in the gallery. There are probably a few .nomedia files in folders on your phone already that you could copy/paste as well.
Either that or use QuickPic

Android does file scan after reboot, possibly later updates it's list if you put/delete a file.
If you put .nomedia into certain directory - it will be ignored during scan (or display or both, I am not sure).
Download root Explorer or Explorer (blue) and create file .nomedia
When you Reboot you not see this files in video Players/music Players and gallery/album where nomedia is.
