Searched and searched. Bought a used in great shape epic for my son for christmas and I wanted to set it up on cleanGB like I have mine and the wifes set up (very stable an fast). I odined it back to stocj ec05 and when it prompted to update it failed. So I tried the update.zip for ei22 thru recovery and it also failed. I've seen a thread here for the same problem but I couldn't find the thread. If some one could point me in the rite direction to get it to ei22 I would greatly appreciate it.
I have everything saved on my pc to root and apply all the fixes (gps, keyboard) and to root I just need to get the phone to that point first.
Thanks

You could odin in the recovery (ACS or CWM) while on EC05, then flash the EC05 to EI22 Modem zip file (somewhere in thee dev forum), then flash CleanGB.
Edit: I am pretty sure that the only reason you want the OTA update is to get the EI22 modem.

the modem i could flash to i was just lookin to do it the easy way. lol
Mine won't update from EC05 either. I have to go back to DG27 which I got from the wiki thread.

did it update rite to EI22 that why or did it go thru the other updates first?
Forgive me for this question but why would you even want to wait on the OTA update if you are just going to flash an EI22 ROM over it? With EC05 (and backwards) you could even do the 1-click root method and not even mess with Odin.
Am I missing something with the OTA update? Is there concern with the EC05toEI22.zip? I used it to get to the EI22 modem and it was quick and painless.

i think this is the route im gonna take is do the one click root then flash everything i want on the phone
Don't forget to also apply the cwm 5 zip. You can do this after flashing cleangb if u want, but you will need to do the 3 finger method.

So you were able to get to EC05? If so, flash CWM recovery from Odin and try the 3 finger boot. Or actually, it doesnt matter if you got EC05 loaded or not, just Odin CWM and boot into recovery and flash CleanGB from there.

thats the trick thing about odin and epic
always when i have to odin my phone i need to pull the battery and sd card then it doesnt fail
My Epic is prompting me to do a system update to EL30 while on a custom ROM. This has never happened before and I'm sure I shouldn't let it update.
What do YOU think?
sent from my secret underground bunker
mine did this am too..running cleangb, trying to Odin back to EC05 and then going to root, flash EI22 and see if it lets me update after I try OTA rootkeeper (if compatible with the epic, never installed it before).
Otherwise, trying to remember the root/recovery install method if it doesn't work so I can odin back to stock and hang with the custom roms until the EL30 gets nand-modded Let you know how it goes in a bit..
Try just updating the modem. That should stop it. If not freeze system updates with Titanium or Bloat freezer.

Am running GleanGB BML with Samurai Seppuku, btw.

All good now? I have never gotten an update notice. Maybe because I update the modem before I ever get one.
Nope. Still receiving the notice. And system updates is still frozen. Weird.

What happens if you accept the update and either pick install later or let it fail?

I am on CleanGB MTD with the CrispyClean theme. Yesterday I Odined to EC05 did the 2 flashables to get the modem to EL30 and then reflashed and restored CleanGB. Got the update this morning. The notification was annoying the hell out of me so I just let it try and update. It rebooted into recovery and failed. I pulled the battery, and rebooted and all is good now, no update notification. That was only about 5 minutes ago, so I will let you know if it comes back.
Thanks Coycaine.

Just a quick update. About an hour and a half later, no more update notifications or anything that seems to be screwy. I did reboot just to make sure, and everything is running fine.

Yep I did this last night when the prompt got to annoying and persistant to ignore anymore... about 12 hours later and no prompt... so just press install now, let it fail, pull battery and reboot and no more annoying prompt...

Turn off OTA altogether?
Is there a way to turn off this automatic OTA crap? So in the future I don't get nagged about some update that I don't want (or cannot) install?
I'm on a rooted CleanGB and I'm getting nagged by my phone that it wants to install the OTA update. I'm not sure what it will do -- just fail to install and not harm anything?
I didn't even think I would get OTA notifications if I was on a custom ROM.

Just let it try to install and pull the battery when it fails.
I've never had an update try to install before either.

Updated the modem on my phone a few days ago and still haven't received the update. I have the wifes phone set up the same as mine except for the modem (I forgot to put it on hers) and she got the prompt to update about 2 hours ago. I installed the EL30 modem on hers and she hasn't got the update msg since

Only the wife won't shut the hell up after a battery pull!
Copy this apk into dir /system/app with root explorer
make sure u set the permissions to the same as the other files in that dir.
Fotakill.apk

This stopped the ei22 ota from downloading to my phone when I was on froyo.

Do you mean FH13? The reason it isn't taking the update is because it has a custom recovery. The device must have stock recovery, and in my experience, no removed stock apps if running stock w/root.

You can just save the hassle of all this stock recovery if you want... by using this one click (non rooted) update to FH13
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1835033
You should be able to find the complete one click odin method that does not do a data wipe. So of you upgraded to fh13 and want to go back to ff18. Then find the one click no data wipe and that may do it. If you want tl go back to el29 do the same thing. However going back from ics to without a data wipe could prove faulty. But you could odin back to ff18 then do a titanium back up to back up all apps and data. Then do a complete odin based wipe back to el29 then try and restore via titanium. That may give you the all around solution you guys are looking for. But it's all theoretical have not tried this exact method myself but should work.

Is FH13 being pushed by Samsung or something? I was wondering why the notification looked a bit different from previous ota's then I noticed the update is coming from the update Samsung software section and not the update firmware like in the past. Just curious since that option never gave us an update before lol

Honestly I love the idea of Samsung pushing the ota's directly. Something about Sprint I just don't trust. Feels like they just sit on their butts most of the time..

Bro, I told ya what to do in gtalk. here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1930950 get the odex or deodex no data wipe zip.
Then:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1942823 flash the zip in recovery.
Bam, still rooted no data wipe so you keep all your data and you have a safe recovery.
Or you can accept the OTA, its all up to you. lol and its not 90 steps.
My dad got the note2 about 5 or 6 months ago,I rooted his phone and that's it, just rooted. But now he's in an area that has LTE and its not active obviously , he doesn't want to lose anything so I was hoping
I could unroot his phone
Download the ota update that activates LTE
Then reroot
Possible??
Thanks

Use triangle away. Then your supersu app should have a full unroot option under settings. First thing though is if you removed any system apps you need to put them back.

In anycase, I will try that image thing with odin, but I really didn't want my dad to lose his data, and it looks like that will do a full wipe/??

From that same thread linked above... (newest MD1) Flash either odexed or deodexed, then flash kernel, then modem and the data will be preserved. You will need to have either TWRP or CWM recovery installed to flash. If you don't have a recovery already, I recommend TWRP. You can get it by downloading goomanager from play store.

How did triangle away not work? By the way the easiest method would be to just flash the update itself
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
Totally do this via odin. Stock rooted and current radio. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33738396
Hastily spouted for your befuddlement
I could have sworn that I simply flashed the latest stock radio, which itself enabled my Note II to use LTE.
