Lets hope for another quick update which restores the contacts sync

Given sync was removed from the Nexus S I doubt we'll get it back on the GN.
Finally, a Facebook update thats worthwhile. It looks more like the iOS version now which is surprisingly a good thing!

I was about to write the exact same thing.
Facebook's contact sync is still in the app, but it's only accessible through the legacy (read: physical) menu button.
Looks like facebook just got lazy and didn't carry over the entire settings menu into the new ui.
Maybe a nice dev can fix their crap and give you a way to access that 2nd menu?

Nah, afaik it's really FB that doesn't let it sync. Got something to do with FB refusing to use Google's APIs. There's a post on that issue somewhere, can't find it atm. Unless FB change their attitude, we won't be seeing sync in Android.
You are indeed correct.
Hadn't heard of this before, so did some digging and apparently Google got tired of giving FB special access to do a pseudo-sync of contacts (in other words, even though FB data was in the contacts app, it didn't actually sync to google contacts).
I'll have to keep this in mind when I get around to picking up my own Nexus.

Works well!
Does anyone get facebook notifications i have not had any yet on my GN or does anykne know how to fix it?
Is no-one else having the same UI glitches that I have?
When I pull down to refresh, it doesn't pull the feed down, just the bar at the top. Looks really clumsy and I don't think it's meant to behave like this.
Also, it gives me notifications for unread messages every half hour, regardless of whether there are new ones or not.

Does work well. Wish the images were Hi-Res though.
Also, deleting messages doesn't work reliably. I don't get it... If this was iPhone, it'd get fixed immediately but Android seems to get an 'almost works' version every time.
Since we have today our fully working ICS rom, I would like to share this app
HaxSync
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mots.haxsync
It's sync your facebook contacts (Pictures and status updates) with your phone contacts in the same way ICS sync your contacts with google plus (High res contact pictures)
The app it's only 99 cents and IMO it's totally worth it.
BTW: I hold no relationship with the developer of this app, im just a happy customer.
Try it you wont regret.

no, it's built into the official facebook app. I guess that app is included in the skyrocket port. you have to go into facebook settings and choose SYNC.
That said, it looks like my contacts (i use Go Contacts) defaults to sync with google+ before it uses facebook for photos.

Yeah man just go on to the development forums and it should be on the first page. You could also search for it. Instructions are all there. There are a couple of bugs, most notably the auto rotation doesn't work. But other than that it works perfectly for most, including me I would suggest reading the entire thread to gain a little insight into what has been going on and to be a little safer with the installation and all that.... GOOD LUCK!!
When I had my Galaxy Nexus back in December I know there was no Facebook sync available for ICS at the time, I don't know if they've updated it back then.
But you can use Friencaster to sync all your contacts and pictures.
This reminds me though, has anyone else noticed there's no People app? Is that a Nexus only app or just missing?

I have a question, Facebook from the sky rocket ICS port won't let me access the pull down notifications. What I mean is, I'll get a notification, open the pull down in the app, and it shows me what's new but I can't touch it to access it, it does absolutely nothing.
Anyone know of a better app for Facebook?

I don't get them either, but I didn't get them on the SGS2 either, so not sure if I'm supposed to get them.
I get a notification via tapatalk though when someone sends me a private message. - so, not every process gets killed.

What kind of notifications do you miss?
Perhaps you should activate them yourself, on your fb groups you should visit the group and turn on notifications to get them, for IM you game messenger perhaps (no problem there I think?)
You can also check the refresh interval @settings on your Facebook app if it is high then you won't get notifications so often.

where to check - within the app or within FB itself?
This is an Android issue....the only way I solved it myself was get access to a blackberry (yeah I know) or the virtual Blackberry software for windows.
Once logged in to Facebook log straight back out, you only need it for a minute, then go to Facebook on a PC, account settings and then apps I believe, in there somewhere will be Facebook for Blackberry, allow this access and that's it!
Its a bit fiddly but it solved it for me!
If you Google the right thing you will find a step by step guide, sorry I did this a year ago, so its all from memory :-\

I can confirm this. When I was still using my Galaxy S2 and lacked notifications for Facebook, I used the virtual blackberry software for windows from the RIM site, and logged in on facebook with that to fix the problem. It's been mentioned a few times before.
this is an well-known issue and affecting majority of Android devices, there are two workarounds
1. use MB Notifications for Facebook from Android Market
2. try the Blackberry FB tricks here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1386394
I used the 2nd method and it works like a charm

I'm not sure it makes a difference, but my appts are set up with notifications in the calendar app. I can't help but think a location is required, because the notification is based on whether you need to leave for traffic issues in Google Now. However, the dummy appt I set was located at home, and it popped up.
The GN settings I have are - Card appears for any meeting, and if travel time needed, standard. Hope this helps.
Thanks for your help!
I might try a dummy appt too.
For my settings, I seem to have different options... I have - For any meeting, Only if far away, and In evening for next day. At the moment I only have the first one ticked which I thought would bring up appts regardless of time and travel...

The relay and the f3q are the only ones on your list worth upgrading to. And being there isn't much for development on the f3q the relay would be the only real choice there. I have that phone, as well as the HTC mytouch 4g slide, both are faster than the dz/g2 but in reality there isn't much of a reason to "upgrade" unless your dz/g2 is unfixably broken, every choice in the hardware keyboard line is only a modest improvement and sometimes feels like a step back

Both the relay and the 4g slide will likely get the next version of android through talented devs, so in my opinion those are the only qwerty phones that are mildly worth upgrading to, but again barely an upgrade and only worth it if your vision has been broken beyond repair

kitkat ok but on my phone i have no sim access with all rom no based on stock, and i won't deal with this sort of rom.
i haved the same problem with my zte blade before
This the same on many phones and across many custom ROMs. As I explained to you in another thread of yours this issue has been around since the very first android device and one of the all time greatest android devs, cyanogen himself, did not get it fixed on many ROMs on many devices. I'm sure if he and other developers felt it was a large issue than it would have been handled by now. But sim contact management has become obsolete with many other methods that work much better in most ways.
The reason it works with some ROMs and not others is more than likely a framework issue that would take too much time to track down and resolve for very little gain.
But yes, custom ROMs on many devices are incomplete so if you want a device with most features working flawlessly than you will need to buy a nexus or flagship device every two years. But if you can handle minor inconveniences than you can buy a good quality phone with good dev support and wait every five years or so before upgrading.
Not trying to be harsh on you but there are many ways to work around your aim issue, I understand somewhat if you have a fear of Google having access to your contacts, but in reality they don't care about your contacts and T-Mobile or whomever has just as much access. Not to mention you have a Google made os on your phone which if they really wanted your contacts they are smart enough to get them out of your sim when using your phone I'm sure, so I can't say that fear of cloud contact storage is legitimate. But if the fear is that someone other than Google can break into your gmail account and take your contacts than I would argue anyone with that talent and motivation could also find other means to get them.
Sorry again for sounding harsh, but you have posted that comment no less than dozen times in the past week across many threads, and I just don't see it as a topic with discussing

can't have access to sim card directly it's not a problem but when i select import from sim doesn't work that's a problem.
i don't have data in my contract so i don't use sync with google
I assume you have an android device because you at least occasionally go online or use apps that need data. You also change ROMs a lot which require downloading them. This makes me believe you at least occasionally use WiFi. Syncing your contacts once when changing ROMs is all you need to do, which takes seconds and then you never need to sync them again unless you change ROMs or add a contact, which so long as you every so often get near WiFi is more than enough to do so.
If you don't have WiFi or data I would argue you don't really need an android device with the latest software on it. Maybe I'm wrong here but do you get from KitKat and no data/WiFi that you get in gingerbread with no data/ WiFi that you get with an even older device/os with no data/WiFi.
Again I assume you occasionally use some form of internet connection which will more than suffice when syncing contacts.
But if not, already mentioned you could use SD card

i have tested to sync but on the other phone when i want to sync ,there's no contact.
Yes, you need to create a gmail account. You don't need to use it for email (but what other email service is better?)
Your gmail account can sync email, contacts, calendar, photos (through g+) files (through drive) notes (through keep) videos (through YouTube) music (through play music) TV and videos (through play video) SMS and call log (through sms backup+ - not Google but uses gmail) apps (through play store) browser favorites/shortcuts (through chrome) books (through Google play books)
Well probably much more too, Google has loads of nice free cloud based storage that integrates beautify with android and is perfect for those who like to flash many ROMs as so much can be backed up and restored with little or no effort.
Not to mention many other apps to back up other features.
Yes there may be privacy concerns but Google doesn't care about my personal contacts or photos, they just want to advertise to me, which a descent addblocker eliminates that. I just don't backup anything that I wouldn't want Google or others to know about me... Which is minimal....
