Magic-Mat

I was shopping the other day and I came across this interesting thing. Basically it is this pad of some sort of sticky polyurethane gel that can stick onto any surface without damaging it and can hold your cellphone up. It is the single greatest mount in my opinion because I can take it anywhere. I have been putting it in the car for use as a GPS, in the bedroom to watch videos, etc.
Information from the package:

I was able to find the exact product I bought online, however, I was also able to find similar ones made from the same material. I do not have a camera available, so the image below is of the other product, but they are exactly the same. Also, the picture does not show it holding a cell phone, but you should have no problem sticking your phone to it.

I have a rubberized hard case so I haven't tested, but I will now.
UPDATE: yes it works.

I have this same mat (although white) and it works great with the Amzer Luxe Argyle case.

This seems like a great way to use as a GPS holder for my phone. You sure it will hold the weight of the captivate?

I've looked around on Google, and the closest I got was a case, but here's what I'm looking for:
Is there such a thing as a battery cover replacement with a kick stand? I know it'll be a touch thicker, but it would definitely be worth it to be able to prop my Captivate up in front of me to watch things.

If they made something like that like the HTC Thunderbolt has, I would buy it in a heartbeat. I looked around and couldn't find anything so I'm thinking of just building and attaching a similar kickstand on the stock battery door for myself, doesn't seem like it would be too difficult.

Some great ideas!

You could easily make on with a nice black picture frame and some super glue. Just have to find a small one with a stand that clicks in place flush with the frame for wall mounting. That and a little imagination. Lol... Might actually attempt it myself..

If you buy the otter box defender it comes with a belt clip that the phone will slide into either screen out or screen in and the clip will lock open so u can use it as a stand . amazon has the case for $33.00

lol thats funny, i have the otterbox defender, i knew the belt clip works as a stand, but just plumb forgot to mention it in this thread...

Most that I have tried do not. They leave a small gap where the top of the hole to the pouch would normally touch the bottom.
The 10.1 is just a little bit too long. I'm currently using a 10" netbook sleeve until I decide what I want to do...

Wont fit.

It fits... but 1 car fits into an airplane hanger, doesn't make it right tho, haha

damn, I got the keyboard dock so I dont need a case that is also a stand, I just want a pouch to put it in when its in my bookbag etc to protect the screen. Any suggestions?

But other than being patient until more products are released, there's not much you can do. Remember, the iPad has been out for over a year, the iPad2 for months and this thing 5 days. Be patient.
I picked up a $10 neoprene netbook bag from the discard bin at a computer shop to use for now. Ideal, no. Functional and temporary, yes. For the first two days I used a bubble envelope - no joke. It was my "theft deterrent bag"...

I'm using this one. It's snug, but fits well. Plus it has a pouch in the front for my Mifi and cable.

The neoprene roocase for the ipad2 is a very tight fit but should give good protection.

This fits, but is a little snug in the width. Got it on closeout for $10 at Staples.

Shipping to Norway is slooow, so it will take a while

I'd be very interested to see how you like this product once you get it. Specifically, I'd like to know the range of motion the mount has and how well it sticks to the dash, since tab + case can be pretty heavy. Oh, and whether we can access the charging port, buttons, etc.

I really don't like those window mounts becouse they block too much of the view. Plus that I got my phone holder sucked to the window already.
I'm not so confident that glue or whatever really does hold up, at least not with my leather case on. It does add some weight.. But I shure will let you guys know how it does

The case came fast considering it shipped halfway across the u.s. in three days from start to my door.
Pros:
Fits the tab well,
built like the mount I'll last
The spring is tensioned enough to hold the tab but not tight enough to be squeezing the tab to death
The sticky mount when put on the right surface holds really well.
Cons:
The grips that hold the tab have to be off set so the top grips don't press on the volume buttons. (This only matters if your ocd and want the grips to be centered xD

The suction cup works amazing IF set in the right surface. My dash is fairly flat but pretty curved and the mount doesn't hold, it feels like its stuck then you stick the tab in and start driving and it randomly lets go a minute or so later. If your dash has a flat surface then don't worry it grips amazing if the surface is flat.
They say it wont leave a mark (residue) but it slightly does. I have two cars, one with a black dash and one with a beige dash. The beige dash has a slight round spot from the pad.
When the tab is mounted it wiggles really easily. Not because its a bad design but its just because its adjustable and adjustable things wiggle when a heavy tab is stuck on it. It stays in a set position but if you tap it, it wiggles.
Seems like there are more cons then pros, but don't be discouraged. For $30 you cant get much better if a dash mount. I love the design and would definitely get another just because the cons are more of miniscule and you won't get rid of them without paying more than this mount is.
Overall I'm impressed

This is the third case that I have gotten my hands on for the Samsung Galaxy S3. It's great that the layout of all these devices have the same layout. We're getting a number of accessories available to us and the device has hardly launched.
AT&T seems to carry a lot of speck cases in general. I found this on there, but only in gray/black. It fits in between our Ballistic SG MAXX case and Belkin Sheer case. I had no problems noticing the added bulk vs the Sheer case. Will this result in more impact protection? Quite possibly. How much? That's hard to determine especially when I've paid out of pocket for these two devices. If one slips, I'll be sure to let you know what case it was in and what the damage was.
The case seems to be of pretty high quality. We did have a problem with one of their One X cases, but this one seems less prone to any issues. The location of the power button on the One X caused the plastic around that area on the case to break after a week or so of heavy use.
One of the biggest likes over the Belkin Sheer TPU case is that the buttons have a rubber cover instead of the hard plastic. This provides crisp feedback of the buttons. They snap right back into place. There are no issues reaching any of the buttons like in the Ballistic case.
So I might have found the middle ground between a barely there case and full blow, it's time to fight a war protection.

have you tried taking it out of the case? i've heard it's hard to get phones out of the candyshells.

I've probably put about 5 cases on these phones so far. The TPU cases exhibit the same behavior It's not impossible to get out in tact, however it does want to hug the back cover. You might wind up just the device in your hand.
If it does get stuck in there, you can poke at it through the camera hole to encourage it to come to the surface. That's one thing I don't like about Samsung devices, but oh well. This phone is pretty darn cool.
