I am looking into buying an Xperia Play from Amazon but I have being hearing about lost features when switching to another carrier.
So if I bought an unlocked one from Amazon and then switched to T-Mobile would any of the features be lost (txt, phone calls, sending pictures through txt, or internet)?
Sorry if this question has been asked before but I've been looking around google for a couple days now and couldn't find anything.

The only thing you lose is 3g/4g which kinda sucks.

T-mobile also operates in the uk where they have 3g(4g is not currently available on any network) so this would not be the case ; Any features lost using your method would be carrier specific so if t-mobile dont support it and another network do you would lose the feature but this is already obvious.

and also I was told by the folks at unlockthatphone that I needed to "move the internet over".
Here is the actual message:
you have to move over the internet manually. there are plenty of instructions to do so online

yea, I dont think its possible to change the AP settings, not unlesss if you're rooted.
I think everyone is on epc.tmobile.com.... If i remember correctly.
.... still would be interesting... but I have a question for the OP, why do you want to check if that AP works? is for a cheaper data plan, or perhaps a faster domain?
Worked with my 5.99 plan for about 5 hours then I got the upgrade message. Tried all other apns with the same result so I went ahead and upgraded to the $20 plan

You can try creating a new one using that address and just copy rest of the settings?
Id try it, but its too late to experiment. Off to bed.

It won't work sine it is a T-Mobile Branded android phone.
They have the IMEIs and will prompt you to upgrade.
Does anyone have a different experience than scrizz?
I did not know that TMobile actually enforced the IMEIs on the $10/mo plan. I know they don't for my n900.

I DOUBT if android has anything to do with it. I think they are enforcing the smartphone plan on T-Mobile phones....
I'm pretty sure if someone had a xperia x10 with AWS band they can probably walk away with paying the $10 data plan or any other UNLOCKED android phone for that matter.
hmm... that's something to think about next time I buy a phone.

If it's a T-mobile branded Android phone, IT WILL NOT WORK ON $10 web2go
I used to have the Nexus One before I got the G2. Before I had the Nexus One I was using a blackberry so i had the blackberry Internet and used to work with the nexus one and never had a problem with it. The G2 worked for a couple of hours and then it stopped working. It said that i had to upgrade my plan
Before I got my G2, I put unlimited web for phones on my wife's line at $10 per month. Then I got my G2 and gave her my rooted G1. She's had great 3G signal for a few days now without any upgrade messages.

Don't be a douchebag. I was merely saying that I had trouble believing they were checking imeis. Based on further testing, it seems you're right. They do appear to be.
Sorry for this stupid question, but if I purchase the htc one x outright, which server providers can I use in the U.S. and how do I go about it?
Thanks and be gentle
At&t new number or port without a contract, but you must goto a corporate owned store. Do not tell them you have a pda and sign up for the 15 dollar data plan or 30 dollar messaging and data unlimited. You can do it over the phone but they will ship you a sin card .

The One X international unlocked is only for certain GSM frequencies. Well, mainly only AT&T right now in the US.
Verizon uses CDMA and I think US Cellular does too. So it wouldn't be compatible at all and you'd have a brick on your hands.
AT&T, Red Pocket, or Straight Talk.

As in, you can use it like a personal media player....but not an actual smartphone with no service/data.

Hello all,
I have a Galaxy S3 I747M from Telus. I was wondering if there's any way to enable the video calling feature like its international variant?
Just to be clear: network video calling, not third-party apps like Skype or Fring.
Thanks
I also would like to know this. Google hangouts is getting me by, but I would like to see it in the dialer

besides having the proper dialer app to make network video calls, isn't this also limited to your wireless carrier? i'm not 100% on this but i think you'd also need a video calling feature activated on your account with your network.

Heh heh, I was going to suggest the same thing. After all Google Talk is not technically third party to Android
It works great by the way.

Hmm I just noticed my rogers sgs3 doesn't have video calling either like the sgs2 did. I'll have to play around as I'm sure I saw it originally. Also you should note that most carriers charge per minute. I used it last year and it was 40 cents a minute when I could have just used google video chat or Skype !

Any ideas? i9300 has this feature, while i747m does not.
waiting for your inputs.
The S3 I9300 is an international phone that isn't restricted by the phone carrier issues we have in the states.
Will installing a custom ROM solve this problem? and if yes, which one?
Thanks.

Hey. Sorry im really for the Verizon forum but I have a quick question. Rooting doesn't unlock the phone... His phone won't work on other carriers unless it is network unlocked.. Completely different from rooting.

Also in the forums in here are the instructions to do just that as well. The unlocking can be done without root from what I remember.

It also depends on the frequencies Bolivia uses. If it's the same as the US/Canada, it should be fine. But as others had mentioned, make sure the phone is carrier unlocked to you can slap on a SIM card and rock and roll.
hey sorry about the late response but how do you go about getting a phone carrier unlocked?

Yeah but know they skipped it with the nexus 4 so I didn't want to assume, but idk if someone had heard word about something I hadn't.
The only reason the nexus 4 didn't have it was because it's supposed to be pure Google without carrier interference I believe. The s4 should have it as it's a tmobile phone, not a Google phone sold by tmobile (if that's a good way to put it)
Yes, it has wifi calling. even says so on the website.

WiFi calling works on any plan, if the phone has it. I dunno about mobile hotspot, I tried to turn it on and got a "you have to have this service on your plan" message. I think it's a separate thing you have to pay for, which is all the more reason to root&install an app from the play store that does it.

Let me just say this. I am an UNLOCKED phone user. Always have been. BUT here is where I got tired of the BS with data speeds and such. SO I took the plunge to a TMO branded device with the proper bands in it now.
I suggest doing the same for everyone who is NOT international frequently. It is just a waste. I want the 64gb version, but without the proper bands? Not willing to do that to myself AGAIN.
