wildfire s - HTC Wildfire S

i bought a wildfire s that boots into the bootloader but i can't find any information on how to put the rom onto it. it doesn't have cwm or amon ra so i can't load any custom roms onto it.
any help or suggestions would be awesome

<-- Wrong section -->
Can you give us some more information?
is the phone S-OFF, can you access a custom recovery?
Willing to help, but need to know more...

yeah the phone is s-off, ill take a picture of the screen and upload it in a second

thats all i can get from the phone. when i click recovery it just hangs at the htc logo

You need to flash a custom recovery.
Follow the instructions here. After that you can easily flash roms such as CM7
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1213229

hey, thanks for the speedy reply. that worked, but its just hanging at the htc screen when i try to go into recovery to flash a rom to it. its kinda bothersome... lol

You can install official ROM by putting the zip on the SD card and open the bootloader

Try to use the RUU program by htc. Reflash the custom recovery, and enjoy! (Footballs thread)

Rooted and unable to backup stock ROM

ok, i downgraded from 1.72 to 1.34, ive got perm. root and want to install a custom ROM, problem is clockwork wont backup my current (stock) ROM, it reboots and freezes at the white htc screen.
anyone shed any light on why i cant backup?
Did you boot into recovery and try there? Did the process complete and then freeze?
Really got to add detail for anyone to help u

from Rom manager if i attempt to backup, it reboots but freezes at the white htc screen.
from bootloader - recovery it freezes at the white htc screen.
Sounds like your recovery isn't properly installed. I assume you used ROM manager to install it? If so try to manually flash CWM using flash_image
Use this thread for a guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=902493
You can get the latest version of CWM (currently 3.0.2.4) here: http://www.koushikdutta.com/2010/02/clockwork-recovery-image.html just scroll down to the link that says "HTC G2"
After you flash try to manually go into recovery and see if you get past the HTC screen.
still the same, freezes at the white htc screen, she'll just have to get used to using a stock ROM.
What does flash_image report? Does it seem to work or does it throw an error?
You have verified you have S-OFF?
You may still be able to flash the ENG HBOOT and flash recovery from there using fastboot.

Don't think so, I just followed the rooting guide using adb.

Well generally I wouldn't recommend the engineering HBOOT for casual users (I don't use it myself) but it does have an advantage in that you can flash recovery from fastboot.
I would do that next.

[Q] Unbranded ROM for HOX

Hi,
Just followed bagocrap24's excellent step-by-step guide for unlocking the bootloader on the One X and am about to install Clockworkmod Touch Recovery 5.8.2.7.
I'm on branded T-Mobile ROM at the moment (v.1.26.110.5). I have downloaded this ROM posted by rogersnm here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25310993&postcount=518
Once I've got the CWM recovery installed, is it a simple case of installing the stock 1.28 ROM or have I missed something? There seems to be so much information spread across so many threads, I don't know what I need to know and what I don't, if that makes sense.
I really don't want to screw up my phone, and would just like to be running stock v1.28 ROM.
Thanks for your help folks.
Hello there,
I flashed the InsertCoin ROM, it works very well and stock 1.28 with tweak options up to your choice!
Download the Rom.zip, copy the boot.img from within the download and put it in the same folder where u have the fsstboit and cwm files according to the noon guide u just followed, copy the zip of the ROM to the root of your HOX storage...
Power down the HOX and boot into hboot, select fastboot, connect your HOX, open a cms window on your computer type in
cd c:\fastboot
then
fastboot flash boot boot.img
You can flash first the zip from within cwm and then the boot.img as you have only your (backed up in cwm) shipped Rom on it, right? Take good care of the backup....
So, put the zip on HOX, boot into cwm, choose zip, install zip follow on screen guide, boot into hboot, select fastboot, do the cmd as above, re-boot and you good to go!
Be aware to not let the battery drain as in OFF mode it won't charge for the time being...
Let me know how you got on...happy flashing

Thanks for your reply. I've updated to the latest CWM Recovery and am now just looking for a stock, unbranded HTC 1.28 ROM.
I'm weird in that I actually like 'Sense', I'd just like to be rid of the T-Mobile crap they shoe-horned in (for no apparent reason or benefit). Would be nice to be network-unlocked too.
Is there a stock HTC 1.28 RUU for download yet?
Edit:
Am I being dim? Further reading suggests I may need to be on stock recovery and locked bootloader to install RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_HTC_Europe_1.28.401.9_Radio_ 1.1204.103.14_release_256469_signed?
edited. CWM was updated. ;p
Updated again? I'm on 5.8.3.1 which seems to be the latest.
I'm still being dim. How do I remove the T-Mobile RUU (1.26.110.x) and flash 1.28.401.9 which I've downloaded?
Folks, I'm still a little confused as to what I need to do to get the unbranded ROM on my phone. Do I need to flash a stock recovery, re-lock the bootloader, wipe the phone and then install the unbranded ROM?
Many thanks, I just don't want to delete the ROM on my phone without knowing I've understood what I need to do next...
Edit: With stock recovery and relocked bootloader, attempting to enter recovery brings up the red triangle with the exclamation mark.
Anyone...? I was really hoping someone might be able to help me out.

Start by following the Everything HTC One X link in my signature and deciding what you want to do. Come back if you have further questions.
Thanks pdagenius, I've already read through that thread.
As I understand it, I have two options:
1) install a stock, unbranded HTC ROM. This requires a relocked bootloader and stock recovery. When I reset to stock recovery and relocked the bootloader, I couldn't get into the recovery to flash the unbranded ROM. I get the red triangle with the exclamation mark.
2) I can use a different ROM such as Android Revolution HD (which I like the look of as it looks stock). However, there seems to be conflicting information wrt to whether or not to flash new firmware (seems this isn't possible with S-ON?). Additionally, the boot.img link for download in the OP is broken.
As great a community as this is, I've found that often there is simply so much information out there that it's overwhelming, and difficult to find what I need to know and what I don't need to worry about. I think to think I have a little savvy about me but tbh it's a little bit 'information overload'.
With the phone being so new, I really can't afford to brick it....
OK, I've gone with ARHD now..
Thanks to those who offered advice, this thread can now be closed.

[Q] No ROM,S-ON and just working bootloader

Hi there!
I know there are a lots of questions like this but I'm just so stupid. I tryed to flash with Custom ROM with Clockwork recovery while I have S-ON. (My bootloader is "RELOCKED" if that plays some role). Now I'm stuck on the HTC logo. Can you please help me I'm so despered. Thank you.
Best advice runn the RUU to go back to stock, then use the AAHK TO ROOT your phone then you can flash a custom Rom.
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2
Thank you for the answer. Yes,but the RUU uses the adb so it doesn't work when there is no OS. I tryed to mount system, cache and data through the clockwork recovery but the error this time is that the RUU can't get information for the battery and the "Charge Only" mode. So that's not the way.
Did you relock the bootloader manually? How did you unlock it, using AAHK or via www.htcdev.com?
Sent from my Desire HD using xda premium
Yes it was relocked using htcdev.com but that was not so important. The bootloader just need to be locked no matter Locked or Relocked. The problem was that I had CWM Recovery installed and when the Bootloader checked every zip (PD98IMG) it was just going back to the menu with no errors. So I flashed an oryginal "Android system recovery (3e)" and the installation began also with no errors.
Ok, so find the right PD98IMG for your device and flash it from bootloader. Doesn't need recovery. You should be able to find links pretty easily in Google. Which country are you from and which carrier?
Sent from my Desire HD using xda premium
Thank you. I already did it , but my point was that you can't install PD98IMG without the original recovery.

That is wrong. You don´t need recovery to install RUU's. Those are flashed in hboot. If the file isn't working then or the RUU you are using is not the correct for u or the file is not renamed ok. But again RUU's don´t need recovery at all.

[Q] No ROM, No Backup, but can boot into CWM Recovery.

Hi guys.
Hoping you can help me.
I rooted my DHD some time ago, with help from this forum, and was running the RCmix3D rom.
Well I have upgraded to an HTC One X, and a friend would like to buy my DHD, so. I thought I’d factory reset the phone.
Before I did that though I did a nandroid backup through CWM recovery.
After the nandroid backup, I rebooted into the ROM, factory reset the phone, however it then just booted through the White HTC screen into a black screen with the word ‘android’ in the middle.
Now, I didn’t panic, and I left the black screen for a while, but it didn’t change for ages.
So I pulled the battery, went back into CWM Recovery, and tried to restore, however, the restore didn’t take!
So I thought I’d just download another ROM, and flash that, but THAT hasn’t worked!!!
So I’m stuck without a backup and without a ROM,
I got the DHD on day of release so I guess it had Froyo on it!
Can I just download an RUU for this device and run that or are there additional steps that I would need to perform before that?
Thank you in advance.
Greg.

Greg, Factory reset only works when you are stock. As you were running a custom rom, you have just deleted the rom from your phone. You will need to flash a RUU to revert it to stock.
I don't actually know why you couldm´t flash a custom rom, but it should work as long as you are S-OFF.

Yes, you have two choices, or do it in the PD98IMG.zip way or flash it in fastboot. If you are S-OFF, you can flash any RUU, but I suggest and unbranded one. Don't flash a Froyo RUU or you will be in troubles.
On how to flash a RUU from fastboot, check the guide in my signature....:good:

If you are using a Gingerbread hboot and flash a froyo RUU then your hboot will work in super slow motion and might take half an hour to boot. And belive me fixing that is not easy nor fun...

Hey dude.
Another few questions,
1) How do I know if I am using a GB hboot? Would a new hboot have been written when the GB OTA update came?
2) How can I tell whuch RUU is a GB RUU without the name being in the title of the RUU?
I.e. RUU_Ace_HTC_WWE_1.32.405.6_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_M_release_155891_signed.zip

I really don't understand in all of that, but I just went through a very long process of rooting my phone etc.
and one of the million things I stumbled upon was this time I flashed a rom using CWM and the rom was corrupted..
I was thankful that CWM had the option to connect the phone via usb storage, [hard drive thing, so you could transfer files from comp to dhd]
So I just downloaded the rom again and placed it on the phone and flashed it using CWM.
I guess it might help you since you have CWM [and if you have CWM I guess you're rooted?] so you might try flashing a non-stock rom.
But I'm not deep into this stuff and don't really know, so you can try but I'm not sure it'll work.

htc desire in loop mode

Hi guys, new to XDA-DEVELOPERS, really sorry but just like a real NOOOB! i tried to S-OFF on my htc desire with AlphaRev live cd.
Everything went well until step 3, live cd says "WAITING FOR FLASH TO COMPLETE" for nearly 2 hours.
So out of frustration i pulled the usb lead, oooOOPPPS!
Now it boots up into bootloader only and nothing more, every time i power up into the android bootloader again and again!!!
I have tried a factory reset with the bootloader which works fine but when it powers up again it goes back into the bootloader
I have since tried REVOLUTIONARY.EXE , when i connect the device to the computer the program does not recognize the device so that i can get the serial number for the beta key
I would really like someone to help out here, the phone was excellent when it was working it had the ANDROID 2.3.3 INSTALLED with GINGER VILLAIN.
All this stupidity cos i wanted the S-OFF on the device, ( sorry guys, just furious at myself)
In future i will always remember the old motto "IF ITS NOT BROKEN, DON'T TRY AND FIX IT!)
So please, all possible solutions and comments welcome even if it's slagging me off.

Thanks you, as I have said firstly, i am new to all this, secondly the htc desire device is in loop mode and starts up into bootloader splash screen, the phone doesn't boot up.
Please correct me, i think my selection would be guide 2 "S-ON" can't boot recovery/phone won't boot up- and to follow these instructions, but
you have said that i need to make a GOLDCARD but if the phone doesn't boot up then how would i make a goldcard?
I have downloaded the RUU, and because i am newbie with all this, anyway you can explain the full procedure in detail?
Really sorry to be noob!
Thanks
Put sdcard into another phone or use the 2.3 gb upgrade from HTCDev because u wont need a goldcard for that. U can get the 2.3gb upgrade in bortaks guide also, go down to resources.
To run the ruu, simply plug in ur phone to computer while in bootloader and run the ruu (double click it) make sure u have the drivers installed on ur computer for ur phone. All available in bortaks guide like stankyou said answer is there.

By the way are there any better RUU's that can give me more internal storage, as it is with android 2.3.3 i'v only got 156mb left on my htc Desire Bravo, but are easy to install, or should i just leave alone?
Thank again
Nope. Thats the problem with htc desire, low space. If u were to go s-off (security off) then u would be able to change hboots which will give u more space and u can flash custom roms. Check the Desire all things root guide in my sig. Loads of info there plus if u decide to go s-off then u can use "revolutionary". There a guide on how to use it in that Desire all things root guide.
So the first thing really is basically read guides so u have an idea of what ur doing. S-off & root using revolutionary is very easy and straight forward. Read the guide

Hi Andy, first of all thanks for all the info and guides.
I have done nothing but read up on the whole process of S-OFF>>>ROOTING>>>FLASHRECOVERY etc.
I have taken the big jump and now i have S-OFF with Revolutionary and the this is the HBOOT-6.93.1002
I have downloade the flash recovery img (AMON-RA) and UNREVOKED
Followed the instructions and selected the custom image file (amon-ra), Unrevoked goes through the paces and stops with a message "waiting for root" (safe to start if this doesn't happen) then the phone just restarts as normal.
I checked apps folder there is a superuser icon, but when i boot into bootloader and select recovery, the phone shows black screen with a green circle (arrows in opposite) very briefly then a black screen with a red triangle over the phone.
I have retried the process but no luck, i don't know what i am missing, guidance would be appreciated!
Thanks MAT

Sorry Andy, i read elseware to say NO to the install
I now have the Revolutionary CWM v4.0.1.4 installed and at this stage i have backed up my system in case!
Would the next step be to ROOT the device or am i barking up the wrong tree
Thanks MAT
nope. ul need root, its simple. in that guide theres a superuser.zip file. download it and then boot in to recovery and choose install from sdcard and flash the .zip file and ul be rooted.
EDIT: Whos andy? lol

Hi, JM, just to let you know i successfully installed a custom rom (mildwild) working ok!
Is it as easy to install the roms with 4ext or are there some which will need other additions e.g; HBOOTS, KERNELS etc?
Thanks MAT
