hi, first, i searched but didn't find something that fits this question, so...
what happens if i restore a nandoid backup from a rom with ap2sd+ with a 512 mb sd-ext partition on a new sd card with an sd-ext partition with 2 gb?
Also the old sd-ext partition was etx3 and the new is ext4 formatet, will there be problems or does anyone did this kind of restore?
Or is it worthless and i should flash the whole rom again?
Thanks
Far as i can tdll you shouldnt have problems, all its doing is writing data..
it should work fine
there shouldnt be a problem as long as the rom supports ext4
i suggest backup your current rom
try restoring old rom
if it works - congrats
if not - flash new rom
it'll only take 10 mins of your time
and you get to learn something new
Hell yeah! I restored my nandoid backup of LeeDroid 2.5 Final A2SD+ and all worked fine, no problems, no need to flash again.

Hi,
I searched various forums but cant find an answer to this.
Does cwm 3.0.0.5 backup and produce an sd-ext.img?
I recently got a replacement sd card, so I did a nandroid backup after I flashed cwm 3.0.0.5.
I copied this to my laptop, and g parted my new sd to have 2 partitions fat 32 first and the last 2 gb as ext3, as per the requirement for modaco no sense kitchen rom (a2sd+ version).
New sd in desire, I copied the whole clockworkmod folder onto the new fat32 partition.
Wiped everything I could using recovery (clockworkmod folder still remains present).
Tried to restore but got a message at the end that "sd-ext.img not found. Skipping restore of /sd-ext. Restore complete."
When I boot the desire gets past initial alpharev s-off replacement image I have (I have s-off), then presents a blank screen. This does eventually boot. However all apps are not installed. I assume that the original dalvik cache was not transferred and was reconstructed by the restore with what it had.
Is this a known problem with 3.0.0.5?
Is there another version I can flash which doesnt have this problem?
Just to provide all possible info require (I think). My desire is PVT4.
Thanks in advance.
I used CWM 2.5.0.7 from the alpharev release.
In my backup folder, I have sd-ext.img present.
I created this sd-ext with CWM itself. (I did a backup of the sd and formatted it)
So no doubt that CWM 3.0.0.5 did the same.
First, check if you actually have the sd-ext.img file.
Second, you might want to try to update to CWM 3, since the alpharev release is 2.5.1.8.
Well CWM will create the sd-ext.img backup if it detects that the partition is there. If out doesn't detect it then it will skip it like it did. There is nothing wrong with cwm at all and out works. You could upgrade your recovery to 3.2.0.1 but it won't make a difference really. Only way around it is to use titanium backup as it will restore straight to sd-ext

Hi,
I used gparted to firstly create a fat 32 partition then secondly a ext3 partition (for apps) on a new sd card. I cant see a sd-ext.img file in the nandroid backup file produced by cwm 3.0.0.5 so I assume that it cannot detect the ext3 partition.
Do you have any idea as to why this is? Can I have done anything to help cwm "see" the partition.
I'll update to 3.2.0.1 to try if the same problem occurs in that release.
I take your point that I could use titanium backup to achieve the same. I dont really want to do this as as I find it a pain to re-install the large number of apps I like to carry about on my desire. The problem is that I know what runs well on a ext-3 partition and what only runs on int or system space. I only allow apps into system or int if I really them to be there so this means thatyou have to manually install each one of them to the relevant space. Also I use ext3 for dalvik cache (seems to improve performance).
I cant see a reason why 3.0.0.5 didnt see the ext3 partition and ideally I would like a nandroid recovery solution that could auto detect all partitions if present (as I guess many others would).
I'll update this thread when I have run through the update to 3.2.0.1 and done some more testing.
I think CWM doesn't backup ext-partition if there's no data
try the old CWM.. the one comes while you root with unrevoked3 .. coz I have old CWM and it does backup sd-ext.
Hello,
I want you to recommend me a stable, problem-causing--free clockworkmod recovery.
I had 2.5.0.7 and then upgraded to 5.0.2.0 but when took a nandroid backup, I had noticed that the ext-4 partition was saved as .tar not .img.
Also, if I recall correctly I had created a new partition with ext-3 partition, NOT ext-4.
I flashed CM7-225 and then tried restoring.
I cannot restore my backup
Everytime it restores sd-ext or I get an error ("Error restoring sd-ext") and when tried "format sd-ext" recovery would freeze.
(It's possible that my transcend 8GB 6class SD got corrupted -> As I reflashed CM7-stable, and installed simple2ext at the top right corner I got "SD-EXT:--" and I had created an ext-3 partition via Recovery).
I tried flashing the stock rooted rom 2.29.405.5 found here but I got a problem installing it due to amend scripting not used in newer versions of recoveries ( after version 3) so I reflashed the old recovery 2.5.0.7 to be able to flash the aforementioned rom.
So what I have now is a:
Rom: Stock-Rooted 2.29.405.5 (I really like sense)
NOT ext partition and ONLY 55MB --have to change that :/
A probably corrupted 8GB 6class Transcend microSD :/
Now using the samsung 4GB microSD that was included in the box
The device is S-OFF, rooted
I am thinking of buying this microSD card (maybe tomorrow).
So what I need is:
1)Which recovery do you recommend? Will I be able to flash stock rooted 2.29.405.5 rom?
2)Are the app2sd and alike scripts causing problems to the microsd cards?
3)If I buy the samsung microsd and create a 1GB ext partition via gparted live cd(I have never done it before but I hear that it is really good) would I be able to restore the nandroid backup I have?
4)What if I cannot restore the nandroid backup, if I prepare the new samsung microSD with an ext3 partition, and flash a script for apps2sd will it transfer the apps installed at the device's memory to the partition?
Thank you for your help!
Sorry for the big thread

1) I use 2.5.0.7 personally as its the latest official (stable) version. Although given all these issues maybe try AmonRA 2.0.1
2) probably due to dodgy partition
3) not with AmonRA. Cwm and amon are not compatible. Probably best to forget that backup for now
4) yes
Thank you for the reply!
1.So, I will stick with 2.5.0.7! This was the one that I was using, but I saw a thread about a new version and that's why I flashed the new one.
2.What do you mean whit "dodgy"?
3.So with the CWM recovery I would not be able to restore it, right? :/
I have already created a new installation and will buy the new microSD..
Is there any way to be sure that my transcend microSD is corrupted?
Is this samsung microSD a good one?
Hi,
I've just this weekend flashed my HTC Desire with stardust ROM with data2SD.
Love it, got 2GB for apps now
But my concern, if the SDcard dies on me, the phone will not boot.
So i need to backup the SDcard (at least the EXT4 partitions i think)
I looked around on this forum and found 2 solutions:
1. Nandroid backup
2. 4EXTrecovery tool
And myself, i think a full backup in a PC with partitionmagic (partitions and full card backup) will also do the trick.
So my question: What is the best way to safely backup my SDcard, so in case of a crash, i can quickly swap it for a working version ?
I am also thinking about upgrading to a higher class SDcard for speed. so this will be an nice test to see what works.
oh, i am also S-OFF in my device.
Thanks.

Umm, Stardust? You mean Starburst?
I do it with nandroid backups. I backup my rom and then do occasional backups of fat32 contents to my pc.
Oeps, Yes i mean starburst
Thanks for your answer, so nadroid als backs up EXT4 partitions.

hi
i have a wildfire s )s-on_ hboot unlocked running hensmod7 rom, when i installed the rom it had something like 78something MB as secondary partition and link2sd accepts only when i select fat16/32 from the start menu.
i recently repartitioned the sd to ext4 (and to ext2 later) and linux swap, when i try to restore the nandroid backup, process completes but when the phone restarts it stays on the main boot animation of the rom.
when i data reset from cwm recovery menu + del cache + del delvik, Then it restarts as a new blank phone running hensmod7 fine.
so the basic problem is getting the nandroid to restore on the phone.
Any suggestions?
btw my cwm version is same as when the backups are being made.

I think you just need to reflash the recovery. After that follow the other instructions on hensemod thread to install properly. While partitioning use minitool. Make 3 partitions: fat32, 512-2gb ext2/4, 418-512 mb linux swap in that order, make all of them primary partitions.
If this doesn't solve the problem I think Ur mmc is corrupted. Or U could also use data2sd it may also be that that U dont understand the process of using link2sd.

i am pretty sure that recovery is just as good as a fresh apple .... as i have restored before ( with success off course) but the moment i repartitioned the mmc and changed it to ext4 and later to ext2 (for testing) then system stucks on boot animation, even after successful restore.
Why can't people see a q&a section where questions are to be asked?
Which Rom are you using? Wipe data and other stuff first, then flash the zip of the rom, then use advanced restore to restore only data and sd-ext

well i thought its the right section to put the question of the related, we post in q&a from next time
i was using hensmod and tried restoring hensmod after repartition, will try to flash the zip and advanced restore as you have written.
I really hope somebody can help me with this one.
So i recently flashed ICS LiGux for Wildfire - v4.1 and everything seemed to work fine until a list of events has caused my phone to freeze at "backing up data" during a nandroid
I partitioned my sd card to FAT32 for my 2gig card (it was FAT before the partition) and included a second partition in order to run Link2SD.
It worked fine, until i started moving apps to the partition. i didnt move any system files, just a few installed apps.
Then my wifi started acting up. it would say connecting and signal would drop to 1 bar and attempt authorization again. it was stuck in this loop for 5 min. so i decided to do a nandroid just in case
my nandroid now keeps freezing, is it my partition
Never heard of that a second ext partition could destroy nandroid backups. Nandroid backups do also backup sd-ext partitions so.
The nandroid backups did function properly before this?
The things i came up with that my cause the rpoblems are:
- Corrupted data partition
- Low space on sdcard
I hope it is the last one
