[q] ei22 to ec05 modem - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm currently on the ei22 modem. Can I just flash back to ec05? Or do I need to do something special?

If you are talking about just the modem, i believe the only way, is to use Odin to get back to the EC05 modem

Correct. You can use any modem on any build. They have to be Odin'd in.

[Q][modem downgrade][2.3-2.2]

Hello, guess i finally stop lurking XDA as i have a question i could not find.
I just recent flashed the deodexed SamSprint EF02 leak. My baseband was EF10 and was asked to downgrade to EF02 once i had moved to 2.3
is this normal?

Yup, this is normal. There is a command you can enter to disable the auto updates. I am sure someone will post the exact commands here shortly. It won't downgrade you to Froyo, just revert modem to EF02

Yeah but those modem ef02 and ef10 are pretty unstable. I like ee03 and ec05 modem the best.

thanks for your help guys
I'm having a bit of a different problem, I was running the EF02 leak with the EF10 modem, I have now gone back to Froyo as the EF02 was too buggy for a couple things I use my phone for. I ODIN'd an EC05 tar to get everything basically back to stock including the modem, BUT the upgrade popup stating EF10 to EF02 modem update STILL pops up every time I reboot my phone... Any help would be most appreciative.

Check in about phone. You may still have to Odin the EC05 modem. You might be on EC05 Rom but still have the EF02 modem

I ODIN'd a EC05 tar, EC05 modem and all, I have also tried ODINing just the EC05 modem as well as the EE03 modem and neither gets rid of the up/downgrade popup.

[Q] Odin Won't Work?...

Hey guys,
So, I ran EH06, and liked it, but I prefer EC05 (more stable). I tried to Odin back, followed the instructions, but for some strange reason the phone is stuck on Gingerbread. Any suggestions/explanations?..
What are the errors/where does Odin stop, what are you trying to flash, what file name?

No errors. Everything's cool when I Odin, everything says "successful", everything goes according to plan. And when the phone reboots, I get back to stock, but still on Gingerbread with the EH06 modem.

Just trying to go back to stock EC05 (planning to go to viperrom AFTER going back to stock). I used the files provided by qbking to do so, and it worked once before. But that was when I was on EG22. EH06 seems different...

You must have flashed a tar that did not have the EC05 modem in it. You could get the stock tar here:

That's a little freaky. Go to the 2nd post of that thread and use Heimdall and you can just do the modem.bin from the EC05 tar or anywhere else you can get it from.

Wait -- I just wanna be sure I got this right. I've been doing this for a few months now, so I THINK I sorta know what I'm doing, but I just wanna check to be sure.
So right now, I've got a firmware version of 2.3.4, a baseband version of EH06, and a build number of GINGERBREA.EH06. I CAN change the baseband to EB13, but when I do that the firmware and build number do not change.
Just to be sure, is there something I might have forgotten? I followed the directions, but I just wanna be sure.
And you didn't think to nand backup before going to eh06? Tsk tsk tsk.

See, that's the funny part: I DID make nand backup. And I tried to restore but it wouldn't let me. It kept saying "aborted".

....What's that?
Nand backup in CWM creates an MD5 checksum. If it was in any way corrupt,or incomplete, you could experience a succesful restore with issues. Or an unsucessful restore all-together.
.....So does this mea there's no hope for me then?
Not quite, if someone was willing to share their nand backup with you, you could always put that inside the clockworkmod folder found on your sd card and try that.

Then you are only Odining the modem which is the baseband. If you restore a nand backup from 3.1.0.1 it will put your kernel and ROM back on. If you want to be on EB13 or EC05 then you will need to flash a ROM for that or after Odining a stock tar and rooting do only Restore Advanced Data from a nand.
Also if you are getting MD5 mismatches there is a thread for trying to repair those.

Would anyone happen to have a nand backup they wanna share?

Is thre anyway to upgrade just baseband from EH17 to EL30?

I'm running the stripped EL30 stock GB rom, rooted and all that noise, but my baseband version is still EH17, obviously. Problem is I can't seem to find any zips to update from EH17 to EL30.
Everything makes it sound like somehow I have to downgrade to 05 or something first, but again, I can't find a zip for that either.
Outside of a whole ODIN rebuild, is there any way to do this?
Thanks!

Nope... you have to odin in the ec05 and then flash the ec05 to el30.zip in cwm... its the only way... the modems are stickied in either general or development... I would guess development though...

Just Odin or Heimdall the EC05 modem found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1123103
Then flash the EC05 to EI22 delta flashable and then the EI22 to EL30 flashable.
In your post you stated tortel has an ec05 to el30 flashable no?

Yes he does. He basically combined the 2 flashables into one. I linked it in my modem thread.

[Q] How to go back to EI22 from EL30

So tonight I flashed the EL30 modem (man that CWM on sd card zip was really nice) to run some data tests while I tested some things for a dev on their next release.
Well the EL30 3G results came in about 30% the speed of 3G on EI22.
So I'd like to swap back, is that possible at the moment??
I'm thinking no because there isn't a tar ball of EI22.
Hoping maybe one of the geniuses here might devise a way
You have to Odin the ec05 modem then do the ei22 modem flash.

Exactly! Go to the modems thread in the stickies of Development, grab the EC05 modem, Odin that in, then grab the EC05toEI22 modem flashable and flash it.

[Q] [ROM HELP] No Data When Flashing Custom ROMs

Hey guys. I recently got an old Samsung Epic 4G Touch due to my HTC Evo 4G LTE breaking from water damage. I've been able to root the Galaxy and flash a version of jellybean (beanstalk). However, when I try to flash any other ROMs than this, the data doesn't work. I've tried flashing the correct modems (I think) to no avail. Any suggestions?
Can you post a screen shot of your about phone page that shows the modem. What carrier are you on?

You probably need to update your Profile and PRL. Flash back to a Touchwiz ROM to get it done... I would flash an ICS version to not worry about changing the modem.

I don't have info on FB27. If you are on Sprint it should be GB27. That is the modem. You should slow down before you brick the phone. You should have some one-click files on your PC to take your phone back to stock if need be. Also you should have a touchwiz modem as well as an ICS modem on the phone. I would suggest FL24 and GB27. A copy of EL29 direct boot. A copy of AGATs recovery. A copy of Philz touch recovery. A copy of Mobile Odin Lite. To update to the current PRL you can do as @Surj138 says just so you don't have to flash modems. I think you are on the wrong modem anyway. Flash a modem in recovery. Don't do it through Mobile Odin.

Just remember that if you want to flash a non-touchwiz JB or KK ROM, you have to be on a ICS modem (bigmike suggested FL24). If you are on touchwiz JB (stock, or one of the touchwiz custom ROMs for this phone), you can flash a JB modem (such as GB27).
I think you have to be on touchwiz to change the phone number. You have to be on touchwiz to update profile and PRL. But you can be on an ICS modem in touchwiz to do that.
If you want 4g on this phone, you have to be on touchwiz -- or at least you did, until last Monday (Nov. 3), when dastin released a version of CM11 for this phone that works with 4g. That's what I am running on my phone and it works for me.
