[Q] How to backup the backup files while in recovery? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

When using ClockworkMod Recovery to back up my phone the backup files go to /sdcard which is also wiped when flashing userdata.img via fastboot.
It would be nice if I could save these backup files to my mac (either via MTP or USB mass storage) WITHOUT booting my phone into system. When I boot to system my backup becomes outdated.
Is there a recovery image that allows copying files while preserving the file structure in? (abd pull seems to copy everything but it puts all files into one directory)
Can I do this with CWM?

[Q] There is no backup files in clockworkmod folder

Hey guys,
I have used gnexus toolkit 'Boot to CWM Recovery without Permanently Flashing it' to start my gnexus, and made a nandroid backup, but i can't find the backup files in my clockwormod folder. When i Boot to CWM Recovery, there is a backup files in restore option, then where is the backup files?
Anyone can help me? I want to find the backup files.
Thanks.
At least in my Galaxy S2, the backups are kept in the microSD external_sd card, folder clockworkmod, subfolder backup
From this external microSD card, CWM is able to recognize every single backup I saved for restore..
post is right above me.
it is located in:
sdcard/clockworkmod/backup or
data/media/clockworkmod/backup
They should be recognized in recovery (under backup and restore option)
Are you browsing using an Android file manager or plugging the phone into a PC? I had a simular issue where CW backups weren't showing when connected to my computer, although they were there using ES File Explorer.
For me, they eventually appeared in "sdcard/clockwork/backup" while browsing the file system from my computer.
my problem

[Q] Backup Changed to .zip File??

I was doing some changes to my phone so i did a backup and then copied the backup directory from the phone to my PC to save it. The backup was under /clockworkmod/backup/Jan312013.
I copied that directory (Jan312013) to my PC not even realizing when it copied it, for some reason it changed it to a zip file??? Now i have Jan312013.zip and have no idea how to copy that back to phone to restore?? If i open the zip it has all the files that would normally be in the backup directory but of course recovery does not recognize a zip file for backup.
Thoughts? Help? Thanks.
What version of CWM, if that's what youre using? I just used 6.0.2.3, and i believe there's an option to backup as .zip. Maybe you accidentallychose that method?

cant restore my backup

hi all,
i want to ask for a help.
can u please explain to me, how do i go back to my backup.
i on stock rom before, then i rooted my phone and i flash custom rom.
and suddenly, it doesn't work.
but somehow i manage to install this rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2013506
but, i cant read my sdcard.
and when i try to read my sdcard on recovery, it create folder 0 on my sdcard.
then , i copy out my backup to pc.
i flash my backup boot.img and flash it.
and try to restore my backup.
but my cwm recovery keep saying no directory found , and no files found.
not when i see back my , sd card on my pc, there is no 0 folder.
but in my recovery, it still read my 0 folder.
please help
Like i said, you mount the sdcard as a usb mass storage device in the recovery. There you see the directory \O
Copy all from there back to the root of the sdcard !
And like i said .... Send me a login and password by PM and i can check.
Download the program called teamviewer 8 free and install it on the pc. Open it and send me the codes tonight !
the problem solve!
based on mr hofs,
i mount sdcard in recovery.
copy back all my files in .0 directory and paste it in my root sdcard.
delete the .0 directory, flash my boot.img backup files.
and restore, it read my backup and successfully restore.
thanks a lot:laugh:

[Q] TWRP not reading current files in storage.

So as of recently TWRP will not read the current files in my storage on my OG. I download new files and reboot recovery to flash, IE kernel, and TWRP still shows old files and not new ones. I've gone through and deleted old files and left only the new ones in the sdcard directory but TWRP still reads only old files. I'm using root explorer to delete/ move files, i have flashed the recovery about five times through GooManager, and have even flashed an older TWRP in fastboot. I'm stuck... any input??
What ROM are you on?
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda app-developers app
I had this same issue after flashing CM. Had to erase internal storage.

It will recognize the 0 folder as your SD card. You can either move all the files out of 0 copy to sdcard and delete 0, or just move stuff that you want to flash into the 0 folder. I did the latter because every time I flash aosp the 0 folder returns.
I looked for the 0 folder, but found nothing. But it did seem to happen shortly after flashed cm. Must be it I guess I'll have to format storage.
I have this problem and I can't restore or flash a rom since I can't find the files. When you say delete internal storage what does that actually do? I don't want to lose everything including my backups (which I did save on my laptop) and not be able to restore my phone. I am currently just rooted stock but did flash CM10 to play a little bit.
Put my zip files in the 0 folder and my TWRP theme in the TWRP folder inside the 0 file and it see them and works. This zero file thing is weird. I'm hoping I can get rid of it eventually.

You could try and sideload a rom with ADB to the directory that TWRP is reading from.
If you use Root Explorer and go to root(mount R/W), you can access your 'new' backups under data/media/TWRP. This is where I found all of my back ups after flashing a new ROM. This seems to be default storage for back ups, at least for me, so I copied my original stock back up form my 'sdcard' partition and brought it to the new location. That way I have an original configuration in both places; cover all the bases that way. Hopes this helps others......:good:
BTW - I am running EOS right now; not sure if this will be the case for every ROM flashed.......

how to restore a nandroid back up rar file

hello. i need to get back to stock im on cid htc 001
h,boot 1.39.0000
radio-5.1204.162A.29
3.20.401.1
what i think iv found out is that there is no ruu out for this, iv found a nandroid bk up but it is a rar file. this is what im stuck on how to restore with it
Open the rar with winrar/winzip/7zip and extract all the files to your pc... and now transfer all the files to your phone in this directory /clockworkmod/backup/02-06-2013/ and put the boot.img file in the fastboot folder.
Go to fastboot mode and then flash the boot.img and then erase cache... Go to recovery and then wipe everything! and finally restore backup and then reboot!
PS: I'm assuming you have a backup made with CWM recovery!
