Hey guys, first time poster!
My Galaxy Nexus is on the way and I'm looking to get a second micro usb cable, one that I can take to work and charge from the USB port on my work computer.
Will any old cable work for the Galaxy nexus? Is there any half decent ones going around?
Any micro usb cable will work just fine.

This is a pretty good one as it is quite flexible and not too short:
5 Feet USB A to Micro USB M/M Data Cable for Cell Phones, Charge Cell Phone on PC and Transfer Data
And if you use MrRebates.com, you get 3% cash-back and $5 or so just for signing up.
I find the USB cable that comes with the device too stiff and too short.

Last night my cat decided to chew through my HTC usb cable, so i need to get another one.
I've read somewhere that HTC cables have certain pins shorted out that enable faster charging (than regular micro usb cables).
Is there a particular feature i need to look out for when buying a replacement micro usb cable, or is the safe bet to get a genuine HTC one?
Thanks in advance

If I rember well the Samsung cables are shorted, not HTC.
I would go for Samsung or HTC cables, they work at least... had one from my Toucpad, broken, hama, broken, noname, broken, samsung (from nexus) working, one X, working
It's actually the charger that has the pins shorted to enable fast charge. If it was the cable then the cable would only work as a power cable (no data/sync). Just get any decently well made micro USB cable and use the official charger and you will still have fast charge capability. I've used a couple random micro USB cables I happened to have lying around and they all allow fast charge when I use the HTC charger, and none of them allowed fast charge on my other USB/AC adapters (except my iPhone 4's adapter). I went on eBay and found a couple of cables that do have the pins in them shorted and they fast charge on all of my power adapters. They theoretically shouldn't be usable for syncing since the data pins should be shorted however - and I don't want to test it because then the phone would start trying to pull >500mA out of my computer's USB port, which it may not be able to handle. And I don't like fried motherboards.

These are really good quality, generous length, plug fits like the original and they "AC" charge from the HTC adapter.

What your one x charger cable is, is a micro USB to USB cable. That's all you need, I use my fathers from his Samsung galaxy s and it works fine. You can use any micro USB to USB cable, I saw one just yesterday and a store for 3 dollars, they're quite cheap

Found out what prevented my phone from being recognized by my PC. The problem was the cable. I was using a new cable that I suspect came with my wife's Samsung Galaxy S3 phone purchased at Costco. There are no markings to identify the cable other than the usual USB logo. This cable will do a slow charge but will not transfer information. so Beware.
My LGOG wont even charge if i use the micro usb cord for my nexus7. I thought all micro usb cables were the same.

Well monster cables (and apple for that matter) will tell you that (probably just a marketing ploy) not all cables are created equal...
I know this was very true with the Samsung Epic. It was proven many times. Ferrous cords seemed to be the best.

I bought a charge only micro usb cable. Won't transfer data on any phone but will fast charge on any connection. Will get 1Amp for the PC. charges from 5% to 100% in about 1 to 1:30

hi
both 30pin to microUSB for the tab will work on note 10
if you search for the usb to 30pin for the note 10 you will get few results but the 30pin for tab is exactly the same, will work and will get more results in search.
the 3rd one looks pretty slick. if i get one here in PT will buy it.

Do these allow to both sync and charge or are they charge only?
after research, it seems they can only charge which is disappointing
My favorite place for cabling and such is here: http://www.monoprice.com/products/search.asp?keyword=usb+type+A+male+to+usb+micro+female. Their products are high quality and dirt cheap. I have a friend in broadcasting and they've used Monoprice stuff for years.
Sorry this is an old thread, but curious if anyone has done a manual conversion on 30 pin to micro? I'm in a rural location and need to travel for purchases... looking for a solution to power a note 10.1 without a cable effectively, I do have a 30pin SD card reader adapter I could rip and jig to a cable but this is my first attempt at any adapter wiring so looking for advice if any ideas out there
i like to use my nexus 5/7 to connect to my computer at home through VNC but it draws up quite a bit of power. Is it possible to have a OTG cable that'll connect to the MicroUSB port of the phone and then two cables come out, one that has female MicroUSB port to charge the phone, and a second cable that's a female USB port so I can connect a USB mouse to?
Thanks

I have not tried this myself but read on other devices that OTG Y cables will do what your asking.

Be warned that sometimes the specific device will not support concurrent charging. The cable link above specifically mentions the Nexus 7. Read the reviews.

I have that cable, it does charge the phone but stick doesn't get mounted. I haven't tried to make it work or anything because I don't use it.
Hi there,
So my original OnePlus data/charging cable is damaged and I have to put it in a certain position to get it to charge my phone. I had a spare but my friend has left it at his parents house and I don't think I'm going to get it back. I've been using the short charge cable that came with my OnePlus power bank to charge my phone.
I tried some old micro USB cables that I had lying around from older devices. They work for charging but they don't seem to let me connect my phone to my PC.
I also do not like the style of USB head that OnePlus put on their official cables, the plastic tab with the contact points does not sit firmly in the USB ports on my computer.
I want to get a couple of replacement USB cables for charging and data transfer but I don't know which cables would work with my OnePlus One. I would like to avoid an official OnePlus Micro USB cable as the USB connector is too loose.
Can anyone suggest a cable for me to get? I would like it to be able to charge at full speed and also work with USB file transfers and have a normal USB head on the cable so it sits firmly in the port.
I just don't want to order a wire and find out it doesn't work with the phone. I seem to remember my phone has always been picky with USB cables and I do have some driver issues that may be caused by the wire type.
Thanks,

Actually, yes. I've had my One for more than 2 years now and changed the cable as well. There are actually 2 cables I can recommend as of now - from Nillkin and from Aukey. Both are sturdy, solid, fast and just do their job as good as they should. Aukey, however, is much better in one aspect: it's longer. 2m vs 1.2m. Aaaaand it still charges with full 2.1A current, which, in my opinion, is pretty awesome. Both of them are also pretty cheap - you can buy them for ~ 5$ - just search for them on Aliexpress
I had good experiences with Sharkoon and LogiLink cables.
I've got the 5 pack from Anker and it's doing well. On a test it had good performance and was very cheap on Amazon.

You should get USB cable with Micro USB
Thanks for the replies, I guess my main concern was getting a USB cable that works for data transfer. I ended up ordering a triple pack of Aukey USB's. 2 x 1m and 1 x 2m cables. The description said that they work with 2.1a chargers and USB 2.0 data transfer which is what I need.
Thank you for the suggestions !
Can you please share the link of the purchase

Here you go, that's the exact pack I bought.
Is this as good as the original cable for charging & data transfer
You can try BlitzWolf reversible micro usb cable. It's able to charge with full 2A current and most funny, it's really reversible, so it does not matter which side you connect to your phone (unlike normal micro usb connector).

Yeah, it charges quickly, and data transfer works great. I haven't benchmarked it or anything but its doing its job, and the 2m cable is great! It still charges quickly despite being longer. The micro USB head has a satisfyingly click when plugged in and the USB head is normal and works well.
