Hello,
I'm a fan of compact keyboard, like the one used on old school mobiles.
Used with T9, it's really efficient, more than the standard default complete keyboard..
Is someone knows any third party nice compact keyboard ?
I could try HTC IME mod on android 4, but I guess it won't work ; and still the prediction is quite bad on this version...
(priority in french words, personnal dictionnary...etc)
Thanks a lot for your replies
I've found that SwiftKey X is the best keyboard by far. But I'm sure it comes down to just individual taste, trial and error.

I'm no pro when it comes to these things but I have read a fair amount on here when it comes to these things, but I'm confused so hopefully someone can clarify..
I've got my new Compact 3 from T-mobile and I really can't stand the qwerty keyboard. It works fine with the stylus but it's just not any good for finger typing. I quite like the Touch version where the keys are quite a bit larger, so here's the question..
is it possible to get another input keyboard working on this device without the need for a replacement rom? I'm happy with the officla T-mobile WM6 version I upgraded to at the weekend.

This one is good and free at the moment.
what will happen with the standard keyboard? will I still have choice to use the small keys one?
is there a way to add the touch keyboard but with Russian layout/letters without changing the rom?
I use resco keyboard, it's commercial but I haven't found any other keyboard for that price/features. It supports Russian and about 20 other languages. It seems to be working a little slower than other keyboards but not that much.
Try this one:

It's a very good keyboard, with tons of features, for me the big keys are a must-have.

I second this one, once you practice and get used to it, works very well.
I'm looking for keyboard that makes it easier for me to type with no mistakes.
I've come to the Desire from the Dream, and it's taking me a while to adjust to virtual keyboard. The HTC Touch Input is ok, better than the standard Android, but still not as good/accurate as the iPhone.
Is it true that the Android keyboards cannot do proper multi-touch?
I'm currently downloading every keyboard I can find to try & find a better match for me, but would appreciate some suggestions.
I found smart keyboard pro to be the best do far. I also can from the g1 and using smart pro, I don't miss my old hard keyboard at all.
Smart keyboard also does predicted text in the search bar. Very good.
Just got a PM about the leaked R3 virtual keyboard from an XDA member, and I realized that many might not even know about its existance. So what virtual keyboard to you guys use? X2, "leaked R3", HTC, Fingerboard, or a third party keyboard?
In case you didn't know about the official Xperia offerings here are pics and links.
X1's leaked R3 keyboard... which has a T9 option unlike the X2 version I believe.

X2's keyboard

X2's keyboard also has other keyboard layouts. Hold "123" button (if i remember correctly) and you'll get their list.
But anyway I prefer using HTC's EzInput

Really? I'm surprised you prefer the HTC keyboard. My turn off to the HTC keyboard has been the inclusion of arrow buttons, that take up precious space on our X1s that already have both a hardware DPAD and an optical pad. the size issue made it difficult to use on my old HTC Pure/Diamond 2 with its 3.2" screen and its even more difficult for me to use on the X1's smaller 3.0" screen. I had to use a software keyboard as primary input for a brief period when my HW keyboard was acting up, and HTC's was a huuuuuge pain due to buttons being tiny due to the inclusion of an onscreen DPAD. I have Resco keyboard, but I may just experiment with the R3 and X2 keyboards.
I'm using HTC keyboard, probably because it's already included in my ROM and i'm too lazy to install another one.
If keyboard would not be installed, i would use default WM keyboard and use hardware kb for every small thing. And if i would have to install one, i would install X2 keyboard.
Sir how can I install that R3 Keyboard? Does it have Alpha numeric keys like on nokia? Iam having difficulties in typing in HTC form. I am using WM6.5xx...Please need help. thanks

Yes, it does have T9 input (alphanumeric keys). Just install this cab http://rapidshare.com/files/210068347/OEM_SE_XPeria_Keyboard.CAB on your phone, and that should be all.
can somebody please reupload this file? the files seems to be deleted by rapidshare
The keyboard of my choice is the Resco Keyboard. I consider it almost perfect. I hardly ever have to flip out the hardware keyboard.
Hi.
I've made this thread due to alot of posts (including my own) asking for Samsung Keyboard for AOSP/AOKP, since it's to possible to use on these ROMs.
I wanted to make a GUIDE to help find the best alternatives to the Samsung Keyboard or other stock keyboards in general. My own reason to want the Samsung Keykoard is only due to layout + T9 Dictionary in my native language, Danish.
I hope that most people afterwards can make find a better alternative, that can be installed on to their custom rom as a apk or though Play.
If you got a a favorite keyboard, then please post or pm me, then I will add it to the list. Please provide download url aswell.
Keyboards tried and tested untill now:
Swift keyboard is definitely the best. It's word-guessing is incredible and it only costs 2-3$... Very satisfied so far
AI Keyboard - Nice, but doesn't support danish dictionary.

MultiLing Keyboard is nice, but it seems a bit weird with word-guessing.
Found free on market. And there is alot of dictionaries to download aswell.
iPhone keyboard has poor word-guessing in my native language (danish)
I will keep this thread updated when I try out more and get feedback from you guys.
SwiftKey 3 beta, best I ever tried

+1 on A.I keyboard, love it.
iPhone Keyboard, so far the best keyboard i used on android, installs through market.
Different Keyboards as well!!
There is so much to change and play with.
Do other keyboards support Swype?
Hello. i am posting here, in desperation for not being able to find a working T9 keyboard. I used smart keyboard pro, which used to work wonderfully on my HTC HD2. Now i have a Galaxy s2, and with the stock rom it didn't work properly. I type very fast, and the program is not able to "detect all the keypresses accurately?" and i cannot write correctly. I installed Android 4.4/CM 11 AOKP (Pound rom) and still the problem resides. I tried so far:
-perfect keyboard, both free and pro
-black bolts keyboard
-super keyboard
-smart keyboard pro
-sony experia z1 keyboard (couldn't even open it. force closes, instantly)
I just wanted an old school Compact T9 keyboard, with Portuguese dictionary. Seems pretty simple, but it's becoming a burden to find one that works! Anything of help would be appreciated...
I've been using swiftkey for many many years, it works really well and builds its dictionary using your email, facebook, sms and twitter vocabulary. Try it, I think you'll love it.
See ya!
thanks for replying. But since when is swiftkey a compact T9?
still looking for an alternative.. help anyone?
Problem solved. Touch pal x keyboard works like a charm with full t9 working. This thread can be closed
