Well I am an Android Developer + PHP & HTML developer so for my recent project I will be developing a text based game which will mainly be for Xperia Play.
BUT there is 1 problem.
What would this community ( you guys ) like to see in a text based game and would you play them.
Im not advanced enough in Android Development just yet for more complex and advanced games

The never ending story on the spectrum was an awesome text based rpg when i was a lil kid

Not to put a dampener on it, but the Xperia play isn't really suited to text based games.
With the phone in portrait mode the keyboard is too small for my fat fingers. Swype input alleviates some of this. Also the displayed text is minimal.
With the phone in landscape mode you can't see anything, except what you are typing and the keyboard.
The main benefit of the play is the control pad.

Maybe he doesn't necessarily mean text-based as in typing a lot of text yourself, but a text adventure as reading a lot and chose from different options? Like Radical Dreamers for the SNES. I kind of like those games myself, as well as point & click games.

lol u realise this is 2011. but yeah the only text based game i played is zork on 360 via the black ops easter egg
What does living in 2011 have to do with it? Living in 2011 doesn't at all mean we need every game to be graphically advanced with complex controls. I dislike todays games myself. I find much more joy in older retro games and that's the only games I play on my phone. I didn't but it for any of the "new" games.

well that in it self seems pointless why buy a "top of the range well design anyway phone" to play something that can be played on any device with like over a 400mhz processor? but yeah i didnt mean it how you think i did. i meant like why create a text based game for a device that is not really a text based device (no keyboard) why not create it for a PC or other mobile device e.g. the xperia x10 (yes i realise it for android but i believe the xperia x10 to be more suited)

The controls, perhaps?
By the way the SNES emulators needs at least 1Ghz processor to run smoothly. Preferably more to avoid slowdowns in hectic situations.
He might mean text adventures like Love Sims, as in choosing different options will make you advance (seduce the girl) or lose (make her hate you). I took part in one of those projects myself, as a translator... It wasn't published, but it was a lot of fun.

Interesting. I have just finished Chrono Cross, after playing Chrono Trigger. Somehow missed them both first time around. Will have to take a look at this.
I remember playing Fighting Fantasy books when I was younger, which seems similar.

OK so I just got my Sprint Touch Pro 2 today and one of the first things I tried to do was install PocketSNES.
From what I have gathered there are 2 fixes that need to be applied before any emulation will work.
First is a resolution fix so the roms can run.
Second is a keymap fix so you can play once you get the games running.
Now some emulators I have tried
The original PocketSNES 1.12.200
(Not going to work needs both fixes)
n0ps PocketSNES
loads roms but there is this annoying white gap and runs REALLY SLOW. Also needs key mapping.
Last PocketSNES 1.53
Will not work with out a rez fix such as WVGA FIX and there is still a gap(or maybe I am just not using it right) and also needs a keymap fix. This version runs the best by far no lag at all when auto frame skip is set and no sound.
Is there any way to get a version of PocketSNES working with the touch pro 2 in full screen where all I have to do is load the program and it works. With out having to load some other programs every time i start the emulator and then end them after I am done playing? Or something that does that for me when I need to run it?

Works on vga, not sure about Wvga..
Morphgear works just fine on the Touch Pro 2 (even Fullscreen). Maybe not perfect. (Speedslowdowns pop up here and there - for example in Megaman X in the Waterlevel )
It's been posted many times, but this is how to setup Morphgear: (correct me if im wrong)
Click on the settings icon (joystick icon) and choose Global Settings
- choose "GDI" at the Driver option
- choose "North" at Orientation
- leave "Enable Sound" unchecked (Sound Emulation sucks with Morphgear and slows down significantly)
- choose "Polling Method" (very important vor mapping your hardware Keyboard)
now go to the SNES9x (SNES) settings under the Joystick Icon
- choose "Window Size" under Screen Size (Window Size = Fullscreen)
- disable Image Smoothing (extrem slowdown)
- disable all sound settings
- choose Frame Skip "2" (or 3 depending on speed of the game - although 2 just looks the best)
- leave Auto Sync checked
- now comes the nasty part with mapping your keys:
if you have a control key (ctrl, strg) keep it pressed the whole time and start mapping your keys.
There are different ways of making this work (K for Raphael or disabling eT9 - search the forums)
K for Raphael didnt work for me and disabling eT9 somehow screwed up my hardware keyboard, since i have a german TP2 with the Rom from NRG (WWE Rom).
If your using WM 6.5 and are having troubles selecting options - try using the direction keys and enter-button to choose different settings.
Attention!!: Everytime you want to play, slide out your keyboard before opening Morphgear! Otherwise Landscapemode wont work!
As i said, emulation works great. Zelda, Super Mario, F-Zero work perfect. Even the Romhacks like Mario Kart R or Zelda: Parallel Worlds work great.
Megaman X, Super Mario World 2 and Mario Kart work almost perfect... small slowdowns which i still find acceptable.
But there are a couple of games i just cant get to work:
Secret of Mana is super slow - Seiken Densetsu 3 (Secret of Mana 2) wont even load right - Super Metroid is the same... all my favorite games
The other negative things are no sound and extreme battery consumption. But aside from that, i think morphgear works the best - considering that nobody is programming any SNES emulators for our Qualcomm processors and that PocketSNES and Morphgear are YEARS old. If your interested, you could check out this emulator - but the guy somehow vanished months ago and nothing changed since then: (snesGO) http://sites.google.com/site/snesgo/
I dont have any other tips for speeding up morphgear. You could maybe try GFXBoost http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=509704
Or wait for the Overclocking tool from no2chem. http://www.nuerom.com/BlogEngine/post/2009/09/06/Touch-Pro-running-at-800MHZ.aspx
I hope this helpes you guys with SNES emultion. I havent tried NES or Gameboy... but Sega also seems to work with Morphgear (as long as you have the corresponding Moduls).
...oh yeah. If your looking for a Playstation emulator, check out fpseCE. Version 0.10 should be released sometime this year (i hope) and seems to be very promising. Version 0.0.95 runs at around 20FPS. But 0.10 should run alot faster. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSjZGjeQSdg
Thank you for this clear description.
KforTouchPro worked fine for me; and I prefer EAST orientation, which also meant I had to rotate Left, Right, Up, Down buttons on keyboard 90 degress.
Just make sure you have the keyboard slid out BEFORE opening MorphGear.
You don't need to do anything very special to get keys working in emulators.
When you are mapping keys in the emulator, open the virtual keyboard and use that to map the keys.
Virtual keyboard is the software touch keyboard which has a full set of tiny keys. You know the one...
I have been using SmartGear to play my NES ROMs and it works well other than the occasional audio glitch. In the settings, it has options for different emulation modes: NES, SNES, Genesis, TG16/PC-Engine, GameBoy, and GameGear/SMS. I do not have any of theses other ROMs but it should work. You are able to use the keyboard or touchscreen to control the game and it also plays in full screen. Works much better than any other emulator I have tried to use on the TP2.
You can download a trial of it here:
http://www.bitbanksoftware.com/SmartGear.html

love the notes and your ideas thank you now i can play ff3. thanks alot bro
yeah I just wanna say thanks a lot for the comments here and instructions to get morphgear running right. I've been playing super mario world non-stop ever since!
Can anyone provide a list of games that run the best? Things like Super Mario RPG never load for me, and with the sega genesis emulator, I can pretty much only get sonic and knuckles to load.
SNES seems to have a better success rate, but still not good enough.
If only I could get mortal kombat 2 to run!

I have had several games playing well with Genesis, Earthworm Jim, Sonic 3, Streets of Rage 3, Ecco the Dolphin. Can't get Eternal Champions to run though. For SNES Crono Trigger runs beautifully, Sparkster, Contra III, and many more working well.
@hani1 Just google SNES Roms or Genesis or whatever you are looking for. We can't post here, keep in mind that it is illegal to own a Rom if you dont own the original game. Not that' it's stopping anyone

Honestly that stuff is just for testing. If you just want to play Angry Birds, buy a real Android device or an iPod Touch. If you're not going to help with the development by testing (IE you just want it to play a game) then what's the point?
Go thru the thread, read, re-read it. Post questions in that thread if you think you can help with the testing. Otherwise it's probably just best to wait until it's committed.

You do know that with 3 million users on XDA, not all of them are developers right? The work that developers do ultimately go to consumers like him, and you can be a little nicer in that regard. Plus, you're telling him to read the whole thread, seriously? That thing has 11,458 replies as I type this, you'd have to be retarded or really obsessed to want to go through the entire thread. Which is why everyone stresses the use of the search function. He does not understand how far the development on this is, so to answer his question in the proper way like you should have:
No, you cannot play angry birds on this, development on the 3d drivers is not far enough along for that and probably will not be for a long time. I recommend you purchasing a true Android phone if you wish to have the full experience of Android. But if you stick along the devs here might eventually get that working too.

lol, I guess I didn't use the operative word 'search' in my post... meh.
Either way, there's no point in helping you to get Angry Birds working on something that's just for testing, that's my point. I realize there's a ton of people on the forums that aren't devs - I'm not a dev, but I still try to help with the development in any way possible.
Begging to play a game doesn't really help anyone. At all.

I just got an S2 yesterday and have tried N64oid with Wave Race and there are some slowdowns with sound and frame rate along with a lot of graphical glitches.
I saw an Infuse run this just fine. Any suggestions?
I think this is nothing to do with the phone, but more to do with the emulator.
The author took it off the market to fix some problems with it. Hopefully it will come back more smoother, faster and compatible.
thats not true, the developer was forcefully removed, however he along with many other developers who have been forcefully removed have moved over to "Slide ME" app market, a 3rd party market, which is becoming a very awesome place. he has made n64oid, along with all of his other removed emulators (nes, snes, atari, sega, gameboy, gameboy advance) and made them all free, so be sure to check it out
are you on the most recent n64oid? he has updated it on Slide ME market, download the most recent version
He's heavily working on an improved version that he first said should have been done by the end of may, so any day now. It's gonna make games compatibility a lot better.
I just want to play the Zelda games. Anyone else get constant chop-ups and crashes on them?
Has anyone managed to hook up any controllers yet? Mario Kart is a real pain to play using on screen controls.

For Mario Kart use Sensor as Analog stick, and have Controls layout to "Top + Bottom"
this allows you to steer by moving the phone and gives you the Z (fire button) on the left, and A+B (accel, break) on the right.

How much have you played? I'm still inside the Deku tree and it's crashed maybe 3-4 times total It only seems to happen upon loading new areas, and it's completely random at that. Not an issue if you save very often. Majora's Mask is damn near unplayable though.
But damn, does the phone get hot! Far worse than FPse for example.

Yeah we are still waiting for the big update, the mov to slideme was in preparation for the release of the next version apparently
I hope it's coming soon. If the game compatibility becomes that much better I'd definitely buy it if he puts a price on it.
I know there's been lots of talk about how he allegedly uses open source code for his emulators and then charges for it without permission, but as this is the only n64 emulator available I don't care at all.
Personally I still am fine with my six dollars going to yongzh and am sad that his expertise in emualtors is now unwelcomed by google on its market. And my 4 dollars for his gba emulator too I hope he distributes his new n64oid release via email first to all that paid for it and then publish to slideme.

Well I don't think El Goog care about his expertise when they get a request to remove apps from the market. n64oid was removed due to a lot of the code being taken from mupen64 and them filing a request. That PSX emulator was taken down because it was breaching trademark.
Don't want to sound like a ****, but good riddance to be honest. If you are gonna use other peoples code, at least credit them.
Checkout N64oid v2.0.1 is released.
*Changes*:
v2.0.1
- Fixed depth issue on Galaxy S2
- Changed app icon
Here:- http://slideme.org/application/n64oid
N64oid appears according to commenters to be a crapshoot. It might work like a charm or might crash everytime.Yongzh hasn't shown a lot of haste to update his software in the marketplace so until he fixes most of the glitches and crashes I'd keep my 4$ in my pocket.Already paid once for half baked buggy software, 4$ is a good eats.
His pages on Slideeme now appear to give full credit(and maybe %) to the original coders.Step up I say.
The MMORPG Order & Chaos has just been released on the Android Market. Most gameloft games are pretty good, so I am thinking ahout buying it!
I thought maybe this would be a thread for people to talk about it and maybe add each other. Make a Galaxy S II XDA clan or something This game is fun for playing with friends, offcourse.
So, people that bought it: is it worth it?
Price: 5.49 euro.
Im planing on buy the game to
is the game worth it ?
thx
Hello,
I've bought Order & Chaos yesterday but I have already posted on the gameloft technical forum because the game doesn't run smoothly on the SGS2!
There are several issues:.
1. The game often freezes for 1 sec, this happens every 30 sec/1min. The game doesn't really run smoothly.
2. Opening the minimap takes 2 sec and browsing the minimap is really slow
3. In the options, asking for the ping indicator or the camera being vertically or horizontally fixed doesn't work
The gameloft custumer care has already told me that the dev team is working on these issues and apparently I'm not the only SGS2 owner who has these issues.
I hope they are going to resolve this pretty quickly (especially the freeze/lag) because the game in itself is really fun and addictive

I too am having the freezes.
Wonder what they where thinking when they decided you need WiFi to play it...
Do they think people are walking around with WiFi routers in their pockets?
Fail!
This game is Huge, Massive, GODLIKE. Such an incredibly detailed game and plays beautifully. Insanely addicted. Seriously, this is World of Warcradt IN YOUR POCKET!
I just downloaded this game, it is very very nice, and with Anti Aliasing 4x (thanks Chainfire3d) The graphics take a whole new dimension.
The problem is this random stutter/freeze mentioned by everyone every zone loading.
Will wait for a fix, game looks great.
Hows this compared to pocket legends?
Its also a WoW counterpart.
i was thinking about buy it.. but with the freeze problem.. oh ****
This happens due to GPU not running at 267Mhz I believe but at a lower clock rate. This happens on Asphalt 6 and GangsterMiami etc.

Pocket Legends has NOTHING on O&C. This game is just something that you would never imagine possible on this sort of hardware. It's incredible.

It can only remove the cache on YOUR PHONE; all game data (characters/maps/weapons in your inventory) is stored on the GameLoft server.
Im actually refering to the big downloaded data through wifi..

Some guys said that flashing a kernel that supports Tegrak, and installing this app might fix the freezes.
I'm on Oxygen, not really having the time to test this, but anyone on stock might give this a try and post feedback.
- install Tegrak
- OC the GPU to 257 Mhz, or find a good clock
- you might as well downclock the CPU a bit to prevent heating, 800 will be enough to run this.
I hate starting a thread for a beta but I wanted to get people to join in. Its in the playstore so join in. I've been playing the closed beta for a couple weeks and the graphics and gameplay are great. Help out madfinger and play and report bugs. Go into options to change your character and add weapons. If you're interested leave your ID name here and we could try to organize times to play.
Available for the us?
I just got done playing a round.. Holy heck.. I never thought a Online FPS could ever come close to looking and performing as good as a PC game.. Absolutely amazing graphics and fun gameplay.
Scheeet downloading now.

They really need to limit the players or have a minimum connection requirement.. gets laggy towards the end when theres 10 people fighting.. -_- still got 31 kills
Desperately needs random spawn points.. I can't play anymore due to people spawn camping. Completely takes the fun out of it.

Restart the game reset the control to defaults and redo the controls that fixed it for me, usually happens just the first time.
