Hey guys,
Got my hands on the SGP Ultra Oleophobic screenshield for review this time, this is an oil-resistant screen protector. Installation was pretty simple as you can see on the video and I'm pleased with the screenshield. I've used several of these on other devices and they've held up well, so I wanted to pop one on my Galaxy Nexus and show it off.
Full review below:
Mine should be coming in the mail in about 10 minutes.
The fact that it doesn't extend to the edges of the screen is very disappointing. I understand the reasoning, but the edge of the screen protector is very noticeable, and it detracts from the overall look of the phone.
Would a wet application screen protector be able to extend all the way to the edge of the device?
I'd be interested to hear from anyone with the SGP Flex screen protector to see if they're any better.

Yes, a wet application would be able to extend all the way since it can be held down with more ease.
I've got an SGP Flex ready to install but I want to use this oleophobic for a couple more days.
Oh, I'd love to see a review of the flex when you install it. Personally I think I'll get a flex. I got the ultra oleophobic for free from a competition, so no loss.

I just did a quick review of the Flex here Niksko.

You don`t need one, GN screen leave very very very few fingerprints, its so damn good compared to iPhone - no extra crap protectors needed.

I didn't do the review because I needed the shield, I did it because I know there are people that wanted to know how it fit/worked. Anyways, I apply screen shields for protection - better safe than sorry.

Have you seen a video where guy is trying to scratch a screen with key? He failed. This screen is rock solid!

I've seen many of those, but I've also seen scratched devices that have Gorilla Glass. I know it's more scratch resistant, but it's not scratch proof. Screenshields don't bother me, so I don't mind the extra protection.

The Verizon GN screen shields are pretty good though and readily available. They also seem to fit a lot better than the SGP's...

Well I've already scratched my screen with nothing more than straw that fell down in my pockets while throwing bedding down for the cows (grasses actually leach silica out of the soil/lithology to give their cell walls rigidity). This screen is definitely not invulnerable and I think I will pick up the flex instead of this screen protector. I really like the idea of this oleophobic shield, just not the implementation.
This sounds quite interesting. The website mentions no rainbow effect, how true is that and does it reduce the image quality on screen??

I have noticed no rainbowing on the screen as opposed to a cheapo screenshield I had on before.
As for image quality, you won't notice any degradation of sharpness or clarity, the screen does get a little less bright I've noticed but it's nothing huge.

IMO, this screen protector is way better than the Zagg one. I have one on my incredible and i love it. It's not rubbery and it feels just like the screen.

Agreed! The best screen protectors there are. They simply disappear when they are on. Too bad i just ordered a Skinomi. Im going to order this SGP and return the skin.

If you'd just look around a bit more, you'd find that the Ultra Fine for additional $3 is the anti glare and is also matte.
Looks like it's the one I wanted. I was hoping for something like iFrogz anti glare screen protection I've been using on my iPhone which it totally rocks. Don't like the InvisibleShield, it's still glossy. =P
Thanks for the heads up, going to order one now.
I'm getting one of these. This is the closest thing to the Verizon branded version, which I loved on my Droid, but the XOOM version doesn't cover the entire screen.
I was planning on getting a Zagg using a coupon code from another member here, but decided to do some more research on that product, and have been on the fence about getting it. Now my decision has been made.
If anyone wants the Zagg code, let me know. I'll PM it to you. You have to use it before Friday, I believe.

I was just about to post that one as well. Ordered an Ultra Fine one with the coupon. 28.94 total.
Thank guys! I just ordered the Ultra Fine as well. I like the idea of matte finish to reduce glare. Glare is ridiculous on the Xoom. My nook is much better about reducing glare. Anyway, thanks again! Hope the protector doesn't reduce vibrance of the colors nor clarity.
Man, I hate how much reflection the Xoom picks up. Unless, you're in a dark room, it's hard to see the screen sometimes. I love the idea of the Ultra Fine SGP. I don't think I've ever used SGP, but I know they have a good reputation.
If anybody could post a video, or screenshots of the Anti-glare when they get it, that would be great! I'm just holding off for now because I want to know if it reduces the screen quality much. But looking at YouTube reviews of this on the iPad, it greatly reduces glare.
Here's a good video review of *cough* other tablet's SGP Anti-Fingerprint...

Good thing I waited to get a protector, because this looks like it's just the ticket.
Ordered the Ultra Fine.
They are indeed high quality but there are visible scratches from swiping on the one installed on my Droid X just three months ago. Is this typical? Thus far I have no scratches whatsoever on the VZW protector on the Xoom.
And this is from someone who is fanatical about taking care of my electronics.

Yes, this is normal. I've had a Steinheil on my Incredible since May and there are multiple scratches but they're not unsightly. You have to take into account that you're not putting the Xoom in your pocket with various sharp/metal objects, so as long as your fingers and screen are relatively clean, you won't see those same scratches you do on your phone's protector.
I love Steinheil btw...

Thanks. That's why I asked -- I use a clean microfiber cloth to wipe regularly and it is kept in a case in my purse and never in a pocket. I was surprised at how easily it scratched from clean fingertips.
Oddly, I haven't seen a scratch yet on the VZW/Xoom and but expected to. Guess I am spoiled with Giottos AEGIS Pro LCD Screen Protectors for my DSLRs but they are made of German Schott glass.

Well mine's probably horrible compared to yours! I was also careful at first, making sure it was in pockets solely by itself, but after the first two or three scratches, I stopped caring. You got me thinking that I should put the backup that they sent on!
And on that note, only one comes for the Xoom, correct? I'm very obsessed about getting it perfectly laid without a speck underneath.

Yes, it is a single protector but I wouldn't be concerned - they are not fragile and easy to apply. Just be sure to find a very clean, nearly dust-free area and wash your hands well before application. I usually keep a lens blower handy as well as a couple of pieces of Scotch tape. I place the tape on opposite corners for easier control of placement.

Hi,
I finally got SGP Ultraclear screen protector and installed it successfully last night. It is very clear and screen looks same as before. But I found a few issuea which I didn't expect.
First, I can easily see a lot of finger prints. It was not noticeable when there was no protector but now I can clearly see it.
Second I also can see rainbow effect from side view. It is hard to see from normal angle though.
I may take off this protector later. I am wondering if this is normal.

gorilla glass is scratch resistant, not scratch proof.
and the galaxy note doesnt have gorilla glass. it has a form of hardened glass, but its not gorilla glass. or so ive read in one of the threads here.
personally, i prefer to have a screen protector for those times you accidentally drop your phone on something or you drop something on your phone. i cant stand scratches on displays since they tend to refract light and annoy the hell out of me.
i think u should go with SGP ultra optics screen protector , i havent tried it personally but people been saying good things about it.
what concerns me about it is that does it affect the display an way or another ? grainy effects ?
for the moment i have a Brando ultra clear screen protector , its very good and clear but its a fingerprint magnet , supposedly with SGP ulta optics u should get ultra clariness and no fingerprints.
would love some feedback from someone who already tested it
cheers

some places mention it has gorilla glass, some doesnt.
its not listed on the samsung website and its not listed on the corning website so i'd say we cant confirm or deny it. all we do know is that the galaxy nexus isnt using gorilla glass either, its using hardened glass. so the best we can hope for is that the galaxy note is also using hardened glass.

I purchased the same product from Amazon. It is really clear and does fit the whole screen, even has a cut out for the home button. Went on relatively easily without the need for a solution. Cant even tell it on there.
It's not a solution aided style protector, if you add solution you will ruin it.
The trick is being in a clean room with no air flow, then you can have as many goes as you want without getting too much dust, and what you do get you can remove with the dust removing sticker.
I got 3 Screen Guard protectors with a TPU S-Case from eBay. I really had no interest in the protectors, but I like it a lot better than I thought I would. Fingerprints don't wipe off completely but they seem to blend in with the plastic. You almost can't see them anyway when the screen is on. I see no rainbow effect and there is no image distortion unless the screen gets too oily.

Cracks me up every time I read something like this
I used to be very careful up til the day my wife got a screen protector installed by a guy in the Beijing subway (yeah, anything can be done at those subway exits). And believe me, it is windy, and dusty! Those who may know Beijing know how true that is
Result really is perfect....
Sorry don t mean to offend, just funny to see how good care we put into it and seeing how one guy sitting in a dusty, windy area can pull it off just as well
Cheers
No offense taken
But, keep in mind that the dude in the subway is experienced, it takes him 15 seconds prob to clean + fit + charge you.
Where as normal user who have done it maybe 3 - 5 times, will need more time!

Its a great screen protector, plus they give you two. Its thick, clear and so far doesn't seem to cause any display issues. The fingerprints wipe off easy enough.
any chance you can show us the cut out? is it a 4 edge hole at the bottom instead a U shape?
I've been considering getting a screen protector for a while now. The problem I have is my hands sweat very badly (gross I know) and then the touch screen on my phone goes crazy from the water on the screen. I have never had this problem with any phone I've had before now. I think it is because the Atrix touch screen is more sensitive than any other phone I've had. I was wondering if a screen protector would fix this problem and what some good brands were to try. Thanks
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
You should always have a screen protector on any smart device you care about. One grain of sand in your pocket can ruin your screen (and your day). That said....
A screen protector will likely NOT fix your problem, as water (sweat) registers as a capacative touch. For a screen protector to "fix" the registration of sweat, it would have to also "fix" the registration of a desired capacitive touch (finger, stylus, or otherwise).
The only manner in which a screen protector could help is if you could find a very hydrophobic one (the repells and beads water), though you would still need to soak up that water with your shirt or a handkerchief or something. I'm not sure they even sell these. Google is your friend, here. Use keywords hydrophobic and/or water-repellent. Good luck, my friend, and let us know if you find anything interesting!

I tried few of a kind and decided to go with Otterbox Defender case which has a transparent front panel.
Refurbished case is about $20-25 and as good as a new one.
No need for screen protector. No mess with applying one...
What if I put on an average screen protector and then sprayed it with some form of water repellent?

Water repellent spray wouldn't work because the screen protectors are vinyl or polyurethane and are not absorbent. Those hydrophobic sprays only work with an absorbent material like cloth or real leather.

I have to disagree with the statement that you have to have a screen protector, we have gorilla glass! I have never had a protector and my screen looks great! As for this situation, a protector that has a little rubberized feel might work well. I would read reviews on Amazon and buy the one that people complain the most about it sticking!

FWIW, my wife has been w/o a screen protector since April and I've been with / without one on and off since June.
Still not a single scratch on either phone, however, without one the screen is too smooth, so I'm thinking of going back installing one.
Hope this helps...
I went without a screen protector for a few months. I took the phone outside and noticed TONS of very fine scratches. You could only see them in direct sunlight, but it bothered me enough that I got a screen protector shortly thereafter.
I was thinking to buy a Vikuiti ADQC27. Has anyone tried it?
Thanks
I have to second the rec for the Otterbox Defender case. Having the screen protector built in is pretty awesome and in my experience, it has withstood all kind of liquidy stuff on it and plenty of goopy stuff as well. Like those technical terms?
It hasn't hampered my touch screen through various roms with various sensitivities and my glowing review hasn't even hit all the protection benefits it gives.
Best part? I got mine for about $10 'used' on ebay and while the silicone part was a little loose, a quick email to Otterbox got me a free placement in the mail without any hassle.
I haven't used one myself, but if they make one for the Atrix and if it's what you are really looking for, Zagg stuff has made some of my friends really happy.
You should look into a Matte one where is almost smudge free
altho it looks slightly foggy and scratch easily, but its worth it

Can you suggest any brand? Something like the GreatShield Ultra Anti-Glare (Matte)?
I have one on mine, steinheil (SGP), while the protector gets scratched its better than the screen getting scratched.
Can't really tell the SGP ultra crystal protector is on the screen either, other than the few scratches that are on the protector now. Comes with 2 in a package if you get them.
They have an oleophobic one that is suppose to be oil resistant, maybe that one might be ideal? The ultra fine is their matted one.
If you look at the product on their webpage the 'Select a Color' changes the type of protector they have (took me a min to find the different versions they had when I looked again).
Last while the corning glass is tough, with a vickers hardness of 622kgf/mm2 in the unstrengthened and 701 in the strengthened stuff is pretty impressive.
Spec sheet for the glass can be found from corning's site using a google search, made me curious to check it.
While pretty hard something as simple and common as sand can scratch it which has a vickers hardness of about 1000....
Keys, lighters and the like are unlikely to scratch it though as unless its hardened tool steel its hardness will likely be below 650, an edge on a tungsten ring could probably do the trick though.
Anyhow I keep one on my phone, though maybe not really necessary I'd rather have a scratched screen protector than see the glass get scratched.

Zagg and Skinomi are quite nice. I like the Skinomi on my tablet maybe even a bit better than the Zagg on the Atrix, but the difference is very minimal. I'd say the Skinomi may slide slightly better than the Zagg, but you're splitting hairs.
I agree with BeakHill. SGP is great except they scratch easier than Zagg. The Ultra crystal is so clear that they don't even have a cut out for the front camera. The Ultra fine is their matte model and it is good and smooth, the crystal is nicer IMO..
The problem with SGP is they spoil you to the other brands, and they are more expensive.

[Update: 08/07/12]
I received mine today. I posted pictures below. I have a headache and I'm sleepy, so I will post a brief Q&A because I've been reading and I know there are some questions folks have been wondering that I can touch up on w/o a delay and I'll give it to you straight.
Q: How does the home button feel?
A: The home button is notably depressed. It operates as normal. Maybe a little awkward at first, but it's no big deal really. And to those thinking you are going to need to buy a raised home button, or a sticker..or something like that..you folks are going overboard with your imagination...bring it down a notch
Q: How was installation?
A: Very very simple and bar none the easiest screen protector I've ever installed. You see how fast he did it in the install video above. It's just like that. A few seconds and your done .. no waiting for nothing to dry, etc. etc...
Q: How does it fit in a case?
A: I have a clear gel tpu case on mine. My case does *not* fit over the screen protector. The edges are sitting pretty much flush with the top edge of the screen protector. I tried pulling it over, it was a no go. What I found is that this creates stress on the screen protector and caused it to lift at the top. I'll be looking into getting a different case to use with this screen protector. Maybe one that is a two piece, top and bottom section? The adhesive seems to be pretty good though. I was able to take my phone out of the case, push the screen protector back down. And I didn't have the issue for the day that I was using it.
Q: How about those *dots* I've been hearing about on the screen.
A: Bottomline, you'll notice them. When the screen is off or black, they are very visible. When the screen is on and you're holding the phone away..you're probably arn't going to notice so much. When you are holding the phone closer to you..they appear like little pixel crystals sparkling in the background. That's the best way I can explain it. Do I find it to be a deal breaker? Absolutely not..you'll just have to deal with it if you decide you want this screen protector.
Q: But the screen of the Samsung Galaxy S III is curved, and this is a glass screen protector that is straight, how does this affect the way it sits on the phone?
A: This is the biggest non-issue. You won't notice anything irregular here. So let that one go..
Overall, the screen protector looks great, there's no loss of sensitivity. [Perhaps even a better sensitivity then if you had any other type of screen protector on ur phone. It feels great.. after me typing the last 20mins.] I'll play with it for a few days and if there's something else needing to be touched up on I will .. otherwise I'd say it's a good purchase based on my initial impression. I happily took off my *wet* applied screen protector that was creating an eyesore because it was all bubbled up and applied this one.
So there you go!
And Please .. Press the thanks button if I've helped you at all..
That actually looks pretty impressive - My only concern would be having the home button be even more recessed. I'm already not too happy with how much effort it requires to press the home button. I know .4mm isn't much, but it's still less than without the protector.
I know .. me too ... but now that I see it written, versus having it said .. you know .4mm ... that's like next to nothing. But we'll see soon!
Yeah I ordered it one month ago, been rocking a cheapo xtremeguard screen protector waiting

wouldnt this also run the risk of being scratched (like the glass)? .. screen protector for this screen protector anyone?
has anyone installed it yet?
Honestly, i don't like the idead of having glass over glass. I had the Glass.T SGP on my GNote and didn't like it. Just my .02

Was it the feel of the glass? Was the image bad? Did it leave air bubbles?
What was wrong with it?
i dont really get this. what if it gets scratched?
I guess the only reason i didn't like it was because it messed with the usage of the S-Pen. Also it made the screen somewhat less responsive and inaccurate at times.

It's glass..im expecting a scratch here and there, however, the screen underneath will stay mint and it's been said that this won't bubble up since it's one solid piece.

Lol, what's not to get? The whole idea of a screen protector is to protect the glass built into the phone (not easily replaced). If the protector gets scratched, that means it did it's job and should be replaced. At 8h it's far harder than even the most premium plastic screen protectors, and barely more expensive.
Seems promising but, I'll wait for some reviews before I'd seriously consider it.
I paid $27 including tax for a Zagg HD that performs in the $10-$15 protector range. This is $2 or so more delivered. I'm in.

I know itll get scratched, but its glass, when it gets scratched, its there, it will not heal itself like other screen protectors and this is not just those cheap ones that you can just change. And i do use use a screen protector on mine. Im just saying, for that price when it gets scratched, its going to stay there. But i know itll protect the screen underneath, and thats good. But for that price, changing it when it gets brutally scratched is a pain in the ass.
Is it really coming out?? So interested in but not sure how it's gonna adhere the curved edge. I know there are a lot of "curved" screen protector for now, but isn't glass too rigid for making it? If it works fine, I would love to buy one, but it's still risky to invest more than $30 for screen protector.

I think your main point here is really price. All screen protectors can get scratched, and when they do you replace them. This is certainly a "premium" product, and yes you have to pay more. This product certainly should be more scratch resistant than other screen protectors, so in theory you would need to replace it less often. More importantly to me, it is a real glass experience and feel, and should be perfectly clear.
Basically you are paying more for a more durable, clearer, easier to install, high quality screen protector.
Personally I would be interested if the quality is as advertised, I will wait for some ginny pigs to report their findings first though.

Why would this scratch less than other screen protectors? From my experience the GLASS screen tends to scratch easier than a screen protector. A good screen protector rather. So why wouldnt you buy a good screen protector that does not easily scratch vs a piece of glass that would scratch just as easily as the screen plus is more expensive than the other types of screen protectors

The hardness scale goes from 1H to 10H with diamonds being the top dog. This product is marketed as 8H tempered glass meaning only (9-10)H stuff can scratch it. Regular glass is 5.5H.
Hey fellas,
Finally got my hands on the SGP Curved Crystal for the Galaxy S3. This is a full coverage screen protector similar to the Tridea True Shield, but I quickly realized this is a better product. Installation was very simple and the results are incredible! Fit and finish is fantastic, covering the whole display and only having cutouts for the speaker, home button and front facing camera. Clarity is great as well, although it shows a little fingerprinting on it. For my personal use, this is terrific and I highly recommend you watch the video below and see if it's a fit for you!
Check out the video below for all info;
Thank you for the excellent video.
What about the scratches ? Does it scratch like the SGP Ultra Nano Clear ?
So what is the right screen protector if you are using a TPU case?

Not as bad as it, no. They are mostly hairline scratches. Some users reported that theirs 'dented' if you pushed your nails into it too hard, although I haven't experienced that problem.

You'll be fine with mostly ANY other screen protector, seeing as they aren't made for full coverage.
Great review, would you happen to know if the screen protector would have any problem with the SGP Neo Hybrid? I'm guessing it shouldn't since they're both SGP products. I'm looking for a screen that offers full screen protection so I might end up picking this up or the glas.t that they have up for sale.

Nope - it works perfect! As a matter of fact, I'm using that combo right now.
Dents?
I'm wondering how it will hold up a few days from now, please keep us updated! The denting problem seems pretty common, though.

I've had the shield on for 10 days or so and I haven't experienced a wide-spread issue with the denting, this may be just because my nails are cut very short. However, when I read the issues some were having, I decided to purposely try and dent the screenshield and see if any blemishes would be permanent or if they would disappear. Most screen protectors have self-healing properties and this one did the same for the forced dents I created. Seems any permanent dents would come from applying extreme pressure to the shield.
Would an Otterbox work or is it like a TPU case and cause peeling?
