Speed fix for Froyo Roms on MARKET
After playing with alot of Roms one thing i noticed is the incredible slow speed of market loads and searching. LeeDROID rom has excellent market speeds. The attached file is a grab of Market files from the LeeDROID rom and then packaged up to flash.
This has been tried on multiple roms and gives EXCELLENT SPEED WITH LOADING, SEARCHING and even DOWNLOADING. It is also know to give you back that illusive PAID TAB in some instances (has worked for me every time)
Give it a go and let us know what you think. Countrys with no paid apps may not add the paid tab.
Also once rebooted it may take half hour to sync up with Google before you notice the speed. But once its going it is alot faster
ENJOY!!
Install - Flash zip from Recovery or ROM Manager
of course always nandroid first before flashing anything.
I take no responsability for bricks
Big thanks to LeeDroid (and congrats on the new baby) and also dancedreamfly for helping with packaging

any feedback if people are noticing the speed difference here
Does it actually remove the Market or can it work alongside (for comaprison purposes it would be useful to download the same app within each)

it replaces it, could nandroid and compare your two different roms, but if you was suffering from slow market you will notice the speed anyway

I did, LeeDroid 1.6 ROM. It is fast but I honestly don't remember if old market was slow, sorry. But I don't see Paid Apps Tab.

i couldnt tell you, i have only ever tried on Sense Roms, Previous users have told me it worked on non sense roms such as Defrost so I should imagine it would work fine as it doesnt edit any of the framework of the rom.
Ill try it tonight and see but if you wanna have a go nandroid it first and let me know the results
what's the MACOSX folder?
No paid apps on djdroid.UK network..but its super fast and is now giving me the option to auto update my apps

I have downloaded Jelly Bean 4 for HTC Incredible to test it out. I have noticed that some apps from the market will not download. One app is XDA. When it downloads then tries to install it says "couldn't install on usb storage or sd card". Any help would be great. I would ask the developer but xda will not allow me to post on the thread which sucks too.
It's an alpha version. Expect a lot of stuff to not work yet. You are better off waiting for them to develop it further.

What I did was go into the system settings and then storage, unmount your SD card and then install XDA. After installation go back in and remount the SD card. It worked for me. I am assuming it will work for any other apps you are not able to install
Unmounting the SD worked for me. Thank you.

One thing I noticed is that I am having problems downloading ROMs from XDA using Chrome or the stock browser. I am going to download and install Alpha 5 and GAPPS and see how they work. More to come. I am trying to post as much as possible to be able to post in other test spots too.
Any idea what's different in Alpha 5? No changelog was posted.

Hey Albinoman, I just flashed alpha 4 yesterday and alpha 5 this afternoon, great work! I appreciate all the hard work and would love to help out with development anyway possible.
I did just notice that 'System settings -> About phone -> Mod version' is still listed as Alpha-4. I just wanted to check that I actually did flash Alpha 5 and it just didn't get the version updated. I double checked the zip files and made sure I flashed the right one (did it a second time to be sure), wiped data/cache, etc, but it still shows Alpha-4. Is this correct?
Thanks again, I will be following your ROM closely

Update: The ROM is working great for me. I have not tried bluetooth yet but shall. I am now running ALPHA 5, V6 Supercharged with APEX launcher. Just waiting for the HWA, Camera, and video fixes. :fingers-crossed: More tests to come.
Watching that ROM very closely.
I desperately need my email for work, so I had to downgrade to ICS for now; but I was loving Google Now and the progress made, and with using Chrome, I felt I could get along nicely. I look forward to testing out Alpha 5 this weekend (If its not 6 by then ). Also looking forward to seeing what PureMotive's is like. Exciting stuff!
Very handy work, Albinoman.

Hello XDA Developers!
I'm happy owner of the HTC Wildfire and am currently running Cyanogenmod 7 one it. ( Latest )
What I would like is to limit the amount of apps & processes running in the background.
I saw this on the HTC Titan ( Windows mobile ) and that way 512mb of ram was enough. And that phone had 7 screens to choose from with each an app running on, any more than 7 apps it would close one. I thought this was really usefull and actually a quick way to search between the apps.
I'd like to know if this is possible with our phone. Please I would appreciate an answer.

if you're rooted and s-off almost everything the hardware is capable of is possible
The most important thing for getting a small memory footprint is to avoid that your apps start all their processes and services already at boot. Search the forum, there are a lot of threads about what, where and how to tweak and to achieve certain things.
Not sure if it's there yet in 2.3. But try checking in an app called Dev tools for something called Background process limit.

Check in your current CM7 setup for an app called Dev tools and/or Spare tools (not sure in which one of these the option is) for an option called "Background Process limit"
If it's not there (in either Dev tools or Spare tools) you may have to install an ICS ROM to get this option.

I've Dev Tools and Spare Parts installed - not sure if that's default, though
It is.
I remember hiding them from the appdrawer everytime I installed CM7, because I never needed them
I found it and set it to a limit of 2 apps, don't know if it works thought. Thanks for the info!

Can I ask why not? I get not wanting to go as far as custom roms, but with adblockers and access to the system and data partitions, you can do quite a bit without having to go for a full rom.
Well I'm just comfortable with touchwiz and honestly the last phone I had I thought I knew what doing and bricked. So I lost the courage just getting into all this so I'm a newbie...
:'( but I see all the customizations and would love to have them so I just wanted to take the easy way out and get some apks that would work with my stock...
Sent from my SPH-L900 using XDA Premium HD app
Best way to customize your unrooted phone is probaly thru your launcher of choice... there are some that can be customized more than others, basically what your looking for is different themes/icons which you can find for free or buy in the play store.

Have to agree with lickarock. There's still quite a lot you can do without going all out like full ROMs. If you simply root your phone and load SuperSU (SuperUser), you can load something like ES File Explorer and do simple installs of apk files through there. You really don't have to worry about bricking your phone in that situation.
While I do load different roms on my N2, like you, I just wanted to get blacked out apps also. I'm running blacked out Gmail and Facebook currently, which I loaded through ESFE. Just make sure you uninstall the original apps then install the apks through ESFE and reboot. Everythings running smooth on my phone.
I've had a few scares loading different ROMs where my phone wouldn't boot up and I thought I maybe bricked my phone.......luckily I got it back up and running. Battery pulls suck.......lol
Just be sure to read through all the posts that you find which interest you. Typically, people post issues they are having and possible fixes. If you want to run different roms or something later, just be sure your phone is running the correct specs for it, ie....your baseband version is MA7 vs MC2, not all roms are compatible with multiple versions.

What spary said! You're really better off just waiting for one of the devs to roll the updates out.
Again....read the threads all the way through and if you still have questions, do a SEARCH and see if you can find your answers.......if you can't find after searches, don't be afraid to ask ?s.

If you want a brick-proof(ish) method to get a Root, just Odin a full rooted restore to your phone. Such as this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2241136. Its about as mindless and safe as you can get.

If you choose not to root, there are still several ways to have a highly customized phone.
Personally, I am a fan of rooting. I have rooted every android phone I have had except my Note 2. Long story short, I bought my Note 2 through my business and cannot afford to run into any headaches that can sometimes pop up even to the most experienced flasher. I will say the Note 2 is also the first android phone that I haven't felt the need to root for increased performance. CPU, RAM, Battery life, this phone has all three for days.
I created a thread dedicated to creating a custom look without root. And in many ways this is the most custom phone I've ever had.

It's a work in progress and I am adding more and more stuff all the time.

For a blacked out messaging app you might check out Go SMS Pro. There are downloadable themes and you can make your own.

I haven't seen a new list or script. An old list I came across has a post to a docs spreadsheet for the SGS3

I have found as others have if you turn off Paper Artist that Gallery force closes when you attempt to share a picture. Not sure if using Tibu will cause the same issue, I haven't re-rooted yet. You may want to test if you got rid of Paper Artist. Just a thought.
