So i have an att xperia play and when I first got it i flashed the r800i generic and rooted. No big problems there but i dont have the 4g icon that i was able to see for the few hours that i had the phone and it wasn't rooted. I just have the nagging feeling that im not using the att network to it's full potential. That and im not happy that i can't bill apps to my account without the at firmware. Can i download different operator settings or flash to the north American generic to get full 4g with the icon again?

If you're worried you're not getting 4G speeds, try running the app "speedtest.net mobile" and it'll tell you what speed you're getting. Then just compare that to your normal 4G speed and you'll know if you're still getting 4G or not
UPDATE I flashed the name generic firmware from this forum. Booted fine but I was unable to download the network settings. Then I flashed the generic att firmware - had to go off board - and then was able to root easily using superoneclick.

Hey guys, I have a Xperia Play from verizon and its the R800X model. I have the bootloader unlocked on it as well. I really want virginmobile service on this phone though, and I know that there must be a way for a verizon wireless phone to have their service. Any help is greatly appreciated

Does virgin use a sim card? If so there is no way as I believe the cmda play has no sim card slot. Could be wrong though.
Sent from my R800i using XDA
no guarantee but the the verizon xplay is cdma if you could flash over the proper files you should be able to run virgin....dont know if this is actually been done with this phone yet tho ive seen others happen
Thats what I'm saying, both verizon and virginmobile use cdma technology for their phone communication, so I'm certain it can be done. I've heard that there are programs that you can use but an completely lost as to how to do it.

Virgin Mobile is on the Sprint network. Even if you flash the phone to Virgin Mobile/Sprint, it's based on it's internal hardware and dollars to pesos you won't get the same speeds/functions/clarity that you would using Verizon.
So it'll work, but your data speeds will probably be very slow and your calls will be most likely rubbish.
I recently got a LTE sim card, and an LTE data plan with Fido. 4G worked for about 5 seconds (I even did a speed test) and then now it's permanently on H+.
APN is set to LTEmobile.APN but when I change to Network Mode LTE/GSM, my signal goes blank and stays like that until I go back to GSM/WCDMA, which doesn't make any sense.
I'm using Task's 10/28 Build, which is the only build that doesn't have black screen unlock.
I tried updating to his latest 4.2 but LTE still didn't work.
Any ideas on what is wrong?

did you not read what he said? He has an LTE sim card. To the OP try a google search and see if there are any different apn's. Its not rom related because task650 gets LTE speeds with his rom. Or if your phone is unlocked and you know someone else that has the same phone or LTE sim card pop it in and try it out

Some ROMs have incorrect Fido/Rogers APN settings; I'd go over what's in the ltemobile.apn settings and compare it to a known good set (such as the ones in the stock ROM).
Soft bricked my phone by going back to rooted stock ROM through Odin. Guessing I should have formated system. Anyways fixed it up. Got lte working on rooted stock. Then when to miui no lte. Read that lte is a problem with many on this ROM so I lose. Hope I can get it working eventually when off stock.

Carriers use different labels for H+/LTE - ROMs differ in how they interpret the actual signal speed.
Some ROMs accurately reflect the network speed, some don't.
Some carriers promote/sell speeds that they cannot provide in every area.
There are many possible explanations as to why you are experiencing this.
You should provide your ROM, carrier, APN settings, network speedtest results, etc. for more in-depth answers.
I have a Galaxy S III from AT&T. I got it unlocked and activated on T-Mobile last month.
Now, I went a month on AT&T roms, but recently I flashed SlimBean, which is dual carrier. My phone immediately connected to LTE! Never had I seen LTE on TM's network on this phone before, so I take that to mean I need to run T-Mobile ROMs to get LTE service.
So just now I tried to flash BeanStalk for d2tmo, but it won't let me install it because, of course, it's not made for this phone. From what I have read, though, it should work fine on my phone. How do I override this failsafe so I can run T-Mobile roms on my AT&T gs3?
"You do this with 7-Zip/WinRAR
Note: DO NOT EXTRACT ROM!
Open the zip file, do not extract, go to:
/META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script
1)Open updater-script with a script editor such as notepad/notepad++ (makes things 10x easier), or gedit if you use linux
2)Delete the first line of code (all the way up to the first semicolon you see) and delete the first semi-colon as well
Do not go past the first semiclon when deleteing and DO NOT forget to delete the first semicolon."
Sent from my SGH-T999 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
You'll want to delete the highlighted text in the updater-script, then save it. You shouldn't run into anymore problems or errors when flashing the ROM.

And the Rom won't give you LTE. Most T999 roms will show 4g, but look in settings for your true connection. You probably had it all along.

Well I had LTE / GSM / WCDMA selected in the settings on CyanogenMod for the I747 and it wasn't connecting to LTE. Only HSPA+. So either it's the ROM, or T-Mobile launched their LTE network here at the same time I flashed SlimBean.
I'm running stock i747 and I get Lte all over Chicagoland. I'm rooted now, but I got it before I rooted too. I'm using the stock 4.1.1 that came with the phone, picked it up for $180 a few days ago...Wow this thing is awesome.
Thinking about going with Dandroid tomorrow...still deciding att or T-Mobile version.

Please do let me know! When I was running the AT&T roms, I had "Simple Mobile", "StraightTalk", and "T-Mobile". I tested and all of them worked, but just connected to HSPA+.
Now that I've installed a T-Mobile rom I am also getting "Solavei" and "T-Mobile LTE." When I select T-Mobile LTE, my phone connects to the LTE network. When I have the regular T-Mobile option selected it doesn't connect to data at all.
EDIT: I am testing again, and I actually can connect to HSPA+ on the regular T-Mobile APN. Let me walk around and see if I can make it connect to LTE. Then I'm going to flash an AT&T rom and try to get it to connect to the LTE network by manually adding the APN. I'll let you know how it goes.
Can the APNs determine what type of network you connect to?
I'm just curious what APN settings you're using to connect to LTE on the AT&T rom.
Okay, here's another update as the result of some testing with my T-Mobile rom:
When I switch to the "T-Mobile US" (no LTE) APN, I noticed that my data cut in and out sort of randomly. I speculate that the reason for this is because it was trying to connect to the LTE network but couldn't get data on it because my APN was set incorrectly. This is what confused be before. I switched the data mode to GSM / WCDMA preferred and it immediately connected to data, and was consistent.
So I think if I just add the T-Mobile US LTE APN to an AT&T rom, it should connect to LTE properly?
A long time ago when I was just on the T-Mobile US APN on an AT&T rom, it was doing the same thing with being inconsistent with the data connection until I disabled LTE so it stopped trying to connect. I'll take the fact that it tried to connect but couldn't as enough evidence that it knows how, it just needs the APN.
Yay figuring things out! Sorry if my words are confusing or I maybe I should have made a new thread for this. I'm new here, and I'm not sure how this kind of things work.
Thanks for the help in figuring that out!
Sorry about the sidetrack, I'll work on getting 4.3 next, and let you know how that goes.
Here's what I've got

Hi all,
I am currently running a non H3G ROM on my Note 2 LTE.
As Three UK are pushing out 4G to London users, I wondered if I would need to be on an official Three UK ROM for it to happen?
As I understand it, a message is sent to the phone and a reboot is then required for 4G to be activated.
Does anyone know?
I would call Three, but they are shocking with the easiest of questions - so I think this would blow their mind.
Many thanks!
Hi
I not in london but in cardiff and h3g were testing 4g and no message or reboot was needed.
I am on stock rom 4.1.2

Thanks for the info, but I want to know about non standard ROMs.
Out of curiosity, what speeds did you achieve on 4G?
Signal still a bit weak but looks promising

Hi Kieron,
Im running 4.1.2 baseband version N7105NEDMA1 Build number JZ054K.N7105XXDMB2 and have a N7105 LTE on Three UK, and am awaiting 4G to become active
I would just like to confirm this is what you are using as you have confirmed 4G Is working for you - or if anyone else has THREE 4G working on their N7105 what their baseband and build number is so that i can confirm im running the correct one to receive the update? Many thanks
It doesn't matter what ROM you are using I've found out.
There is no software update or any other change to the phone, an update is done on the network side only.
Mine switched on without notification or reboot.
Very strong in Central London and 40MB down and 20MB up.
You just need to wait your turn sadly.
Hey guys I just got a T-Mobile s4 in the mail yesterday to replace my lg p769. Thanks to the awesome guides on here I was able to unlock it for my Canadian wind mobile...took a long time dling stock firmwares to revert from 4.3 to unlock. Any who I installed official 4.4.4 and had 4g when I flashed cm11 m9 I am now always on 3g. This was the same on my p769 running cm11 4.4.4 always 3g. Anyone know if this is something I can fix? Thanks for any help. Oh just wanted to say I love this phone! Huge improvement from my lg p769!
Edit
Forgot to mention I check the APN and its setup correctly.

Does your carrier support 4G in your area? Reason is, GSM carriers in the USA show a 4G icon for 3G/H/H+.. Cm/aosp will show your true connection, meaning 3G for 3G, H for HSPA etc.
Thanks for the reply. My carrier does support 4g I'm in Canada on wind mobile.

Maybe it just doesn't support HSPA is your area? Just throwing it out as a possibility. What you can try is flashing back to stock firmware and checking the connection there. Not by the icon, but by the status info in settings. And by 4G are you referring to HSPA or LTE? Making sure we are on the same page here

Hey off to work but I will try flashing to stock when I get home. What do you mean by checking status info in settings? Wind is LTE as far as I know.
I might come off a bit draft here but I'm watching it switch back and forth between 3g, h, dc, but never 4g. I'm just confused...

The switching is normal, it's what it's supposed to do. Now as far as checking the connection, you go to settings, more, about device, status. Check where it says mobile network type and that will show your true connection on stock firmware. If it says UMTS or HSPA, etc, then that means you may not have lte coverage in your area or may need a new sim card

Yeah it looks normal. That's the same thing it does when you are on cm, it just shows the real data icons on cm. I would call your carrier and ask if there is lte coverage in your area
