if you plan to flash a new custom ROM, most of them come with SU already installed so dont bother.
if not then u already know how to do it
Hey Guys should be a easy answer.
Rooted numerous phones (4 4g's and 1 3D) first time having a problem. So understand most of the stuff.
I was using revolutionary root method and for a 4g HBoot 2.16; and for some reason it didn't load the Kernel.
What is the best kernel to use or what kernel does revolutionary use?
Thanks ahead of time.

revolutionary is a program that achieves NAND unlock for phones(s-off). It shouldnt load a custom kernel on your device. Also a kernel is like a girlfriend you have to find whats best for you

Once you get rooted, then you need to install a recovery. From recovery you can flash roms and kernels.

Go to androidsu.com and and click on superuser and download su-bin for gingerbread and flash it in recovery. That should solve rom manager not detecting root. And for a kernel I recommend using lionfish kernel

Hello, Today I rooted my Samsung Galaxy Gio. Then I installed Rom Manager. But when I tried to Flash ClockWork Mod Recovey my device is not being displayed in the list that appears. So I am stuck. Please let me know how to proceed. My Android version is 2.3.3 Early help will be really appreciated. I want to install Cyanogen Mod 9.1. Hope to hear soon.

It's better to flash CWM via Recovery. Look at this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32202039&postcount=4
Does it start at all? Cause i think you hardbricked your phone. Check my stickied thread for more details about rom manager.

umm he actually means tht he couldnt install CWM via ROM manager because his gio wasnt listed
And why using ROM Manager to install CWM? I think it's easier to install it via Recovery.

Thanks for the replies. Really appreciate the prompt replies. I have not bricked my phone as I was not able to Flash Clock Work Mod recovery. I have uninstalled the ROM Manager. Could you please ellaborate as to how to flash CMW via Recovery? My phone' android version is 2.3.3 This is the first time I am rooting my phone so I dont have that much of knowledge.
Thanks
Search xda for 'superoneclick' for root
Than use home+power buttons to enter recovery mode and install cwm-v2.zip or something.
But you should have root acces already otherwise theres no sense you installed rom manager

I don't know which stock ROM you used, but Jellybean (4.1.1) gave my superuser app fits. I used Chainfire's Supersu.zip file instead of the superuser.zip the second time, and the phone has been fine ever since. I think I you should use it instead of that superuser.zip file if you haven't already.
i worked it out,i wiped the device and flashed the same rom that come with root in it.and everything fix now.
thanks to all of you that tried to help me.
by the way this is the rom- http://api.viglink.com/api/click?fo...747UCDLK3.7z&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_13593235906782
Note that it has the same Supersu app that I uploaded as a zip file. That other superuser.zip file can sometimes cause you problems.

PLEASE HIT THE THANKS BUTTON TO ALL THOSE WHO HELP YOU.
I am trying to find a DL for the latest .zip for CWM. Can anyone help me out here? Searched for it and couldn't find it.

*The free one is the attache been further down. Same one just here for members use*
That's the easiest way for me at least or use desktop odin
or rom manager lets you download the latest recovery I believe.......or you could just use TWRP unless all your backup are in CWM
Make sure your phone is rooted .. and then go to google playstore and download rom manager and select your model from rom manager and. Thats it ...
