[Q] Desire 2.2 orange signal boost - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all..
I had a Sensation XE delivered the other day and was dissapointed that it didn't come with Orange signal boost like my wifes wildfire s so i did a little research on google and could see other people had managed to get it in an update from orange.. But after hours of being on to customer service they stated the phone cannot do it, so i sent it back.. Now as i carry on my search for a way of making my desire capable of recieving more calls etc I found a developer on here who has found a way of doing what i need.. I would like to know if it is possible for this to work on Android 2.2 for my desire?
a link to the thread that got me interested..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1367036[/URL]
thanks in advance..

Hi all..
I have installed the apk file for signal boost and i have the icon for the app but when it opens it force closes.. I need to find some of the files so i can put the other files from the RAR folder in the right places.. when i open the phone up to see what file is what on the pc i cant find a file for system/app or do i create one..
sorry but i am a noob and could with a little help..
the original post is for android 2.3 and i am trying it on 2.2.. should i give up?

2. Extract zip anywhere on SD in a folder
3. Ensuring ES Explorer (or alternative) has ability to view root, copy the .so files (libganril.so , libhtc_ril.so , libhtc_ril_switch.so , libkineto.so , librilswitch.so) to /system/lib/
4. Copy the signalboost.apk to /system/app
5. Run the signalboost.apk and install it
6. Add "rild.libpath=/system/lib/librilswitch.so" without the quotations to build.prop and default.prop
7. Reboot device
8. Start up Signal Boost and turn it on. You will see a red house, eventually should turn green (signal bars will drop to 0 too)
these are my destructions..
thanks in advance..

[Q](SOLVED) Personal Audio files

Hi All,
I've taken a look around and can't seem to find anything relating to this so I'm gona ask.
I've just got my DHD and love it but I have never used Android before so it's taking some getting used to. ( I'll get there I'm sure )
My question is I have an MP3 file I'd like to use for my notifications ( comes from my HTC Touch HD ) but for the life of me I can't seem to put it in the media folder that the DHD uses. I can find it using the ES file search thing but it won't let me copy in to it?
Do I need to get admin rights? Rooting or whatever its called?
Sorry if it's a daft question. but its annoying the bejesus outa me.
Thanks in advance
JD
I think you have got to place the mp3 in a folder on the root of your sdcard called "notifications".
Hope that works!
Hi CD993,
Thanks for the reply but..
I can't find any folders on the sdcard other than the ones i've made from having it in my Touch HD.
I can however find the Notifications folder in audio on the phones memory. This has all the MP3's that the phone uses. But still I can't paste to it. Just says copy failed.
I'm just wondering if I need to "jailbreak it" or root....something something to be able to add to the root folders.
put your phone in settings, connect to pc,select disc drive now your computer willl see your sdcard as a drive look at your my computer and either go into my mobile at the bottom or go into the sdcard on my computer it comes up as Idrive as copy your mp3 file into your mobile here disconnect your mobile and search for it in your mp3 files through your media music app.you may have to reboot your mobile once disconnected from the computer so the file gets noticed.
if this is not what your looking for then sorry but I dunno.
Hi Magpie,
Thanks but no.
I already have the MP3 on the sdcard but I can't seem to copy it to the system/media/audio/notifications. This is where the phone reads the sounds that it plays when you receive email/txt etc.
Maybe I should just flash a new ROM although this appears harder than it is with the touch HD on winmo lol
Thanks for the reply anyways
JD
Edit:
I've since managed to Root the phone "give me root admin rights" but still am unable to copy files to the phones root folders.
Im sure you just put the mp3's in a folder on your sdcard called notifications e.g. sdcard/notifications/ringtone.mp3

Hi CD993,
Maybe there is a problem with my sdcard? I don't have such a folder on it. I have a music folder data folders google folders I've looked through them all and can't find a notifications folder on the sdcard?
Should the DHD be using the sdcard as its main source for audio etc?
SdCard/Sounds/Notifications
SdCard/Sounds/Alarms
SdCard/Sounds/Ringtones
SdCard/Sounds/UI
Make the folders as you need them. Then you will be able to find them in the Sounds tab in the menu.

If you have root access you should be able to write them to the main memory using a program like Root Explorer. You can find system sounds in /System/Media/Audio.

Flashing Android ROMs is so much easier than WM. It's getting the root that is the *****. It took me ages to work out how to install the ADB drivers when I first got my Desire.
Flashing ROM's just replaces two folders, so if you are updating from one AOSP ROM to another, maybe even Sense I don't know I don't use it, generally speaking you don't need to wipe the phone and you keep all of your apps.

Hi Kal,
Yes as far as I'm aware I have root perms. i used VISIOnary? and followed a thread on here When I open cmd promt or whatever its called on linux and type su it gives me the # which apparantly means i have rooted it?
Yet I was unable to copy to that folder on the phones main memory.
That ADB driver I'm afraid i've not even looked into it yet all I know is my win 7 failed to install it when I plugged the phone in for the first time.
I've gotten as far as using titanium back up for apps etc. Just need to do some more research I guess I'm new to android
anyway thanks for all your help people. i'm sure i'll have more questions in the appropriate threads as time goes by. Thanks all

Personal Audio Files for Yahoo! Mail
Everything you all have said works, if I put something in mnt/sdcard/media/audio/notifications I am able to then see the files under the Sounds Setting.
My issue is needing Yahoo Mail to see the notification. For that I need to copy the files to /system/media/audio/notification and for that I am not able to change the permissions. I have tried ES File Explorer and I am not even able to move up from sdcard. I have also tried total commander and I get "Error writing to target file! /system/media/audio/notifications/yahoo.mp3
Can someone please help. I really like the Yahoo! application.
Setting Yahoo Notification
Root explorer will allow you to change the directory from Read Only to Read Write. It can be purchased from Play (Market) or acquired by other means as I did.
Copy the file to /system/media/audio/notification using root explorer.
Reboot.
Tada...

[Q] Original Htc EVO wallpaper help

Hey guys, i was wondering if i can get any help with something i've been trying to work on. I recently bought an EVO for 50 bucks practically brand new, i had it flashed to metroPCS. I should've check this before leaving the store but apparently the HTC Wallpapers that came on the phone were erased. I've been able to dowload the wallpapers through forums. Now here is where i need help! I want to upload the wallpapers on my phone so that they appear in the original location, so as if never removed. I'm very new at this. Can anyone help?
I will gladly help you with this. The original wallpapers are filed away under /system/customize/resource and their formats are HTC_wallpaper_01.jpg and so on. To move your wallpapers there or any wallpapers simply do these command lines:
1. Adb remount
2. Adb push [yourwallpaper].jpg /system/customize/resource
An alternative would be to use root explorer. Copy files then navigate to s/c/resource then paste. Anyhow you need root to do this. Hope that helps.

Thanks I don't know much about rooting the phone, and honesty I'm kind of scared of ruining the phone. I downloaded an app called astro file manager from the market. I was wondering if maybe with this app I would be able to upload the wallpapers to my SD card and then move them into system/customize/resource, or is their another folder they must go in. Thank you for your help.
Astro is a nice app but unfortunately it cannot edit system files - only files on your sdcard can be edited with it. Is your phone rooted? Rooting it will not break it but instead open up great options. The only way to modify system files ie system/customize/resource is to be rooted. I can help you with that if you'd like. Once rooted you can use root explorer (root version of astro) to move said wallpapers. But most roms will include stock wallpaper.
A walkthrough would be great!!!! I am not so sure if the phone is rooted, I thought maybe the phone was rooted when it was flashed over to metroPCS. If you can and don't mind if you can walk me through it i'll go ahead and give it a shot. Once again thanks for your time and help.

[q] help htc evo change boot aniamtion

im trying to change my boot screen on my htc evo 4g ive tried a lot of things but somw=ething always manages to go wrong and not work ive tried pushboot, HTC EVO Boot Replacer v5, going into recovery mode and installing through sd card, terminal emulator, and other things i rooted my phone a couple weeks ago so im pretty new at this can anybody help me out?
maybe some step by step instructions and anything i need to download or install
I need help too. I've tried several ways of changing my boot, with no success. step by step instruction would be nice!!!
download root explorer, run a search for bootanimation.zip and note the results. then extract the files from the zip you want to add onto your desktop, open the folder and go to system/customize/resource or whatever path takes to to another bootanimation.zip load this onto the root of your sd card then use root explorer to copy and paste over the original after you mount as r/w.... confused yet? just start going throught the files and looking at where stuff is kept and youll notice if you look inside the zips your flashing they have the same paths... doing boot animations is simple as cutting and pasting on ANY computer.... your phone is no diif as long as you have access.... what rom are you on?

[Q] How to change file permissions without using root explorer?

Im new at this, just rooted my phone yesterday . Im trying to download the sprint navigation apk because, well, i like it. Ive read other posts and they all talk about using chmod and i honestly have no idea what that is. If you could tell me how to change system/app folder permissions to read write instead of just read so i can move the .apk in that folder thatd be great

Download ES File Explorer from the market. Go into settings and root options. Check the Root Explorer box, the HIAPK will already be checked. Then check mount file system. When you are all done, before exiting go back and uncheck mount and root, or you may have trouble running it a second time reading the sd card. Not all have this problem.
You can also just install the Sprint Nav apk conventionally to data. It doesn't have to be in system/app.
Thanks Kenny...worked perfectly. Used it to remove the camera shutter file in system/media/audio/ui so the camera wouldn't make noise when taking pics. It was an r only file.

replacing xt9

not really sure which forum to post this in (sorry if this is the wrong one), but all of the new roms that have been created seem to lack the xt9. i had really started to like it. i downlaoded the system dump and was wondering, if i copied the T9DB folder (from the dump) over to the system folder of whatever rom im going to flash, would that fix the problem.
Melvin's ROM: Beast MOD II has it. I'm pretty sure this is more a general question though. Also pretty sure copying and pasting is a no go.

the xt9 option is in all of them under keyboard, but doesnt work. open up sms and try to type something.
i just checked :\
You also need the lib, libXt9core.so. Melvin probably removed it. You should be able to drop that and the apk in their right places and it should work.

its very simple. first i downloaded this system dump. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1300682 . then opened it up and dragged the folder T9DB over to my desktop. then plugged my phone in the computer and connect to usb storage. dragged the file over to my external sd card and unplugged my phone. then open up root explorer (or some file explorer that allows root access) and copied the file and navigated your main folder (just titled /) scrolled down to find system and pasted the folder in there. restart and it works
the lib is also required for it to work but that wasnt removed witht he rom im using. if you want to check to see if its still there go to the lib folder located within your system folder and scroll all the way to the bottom and their should be a file called libxt9core.so
i tried to go into as much detail as possible to make it as simple as possible for you :]
This is one of the few features of the SGH-T989 which I truly despise. I LOVED the auto-correct on the Nexus S, but XT9 frustrates me terribly because a) it assumes English and I do not always type in English and b) it will drop entire words into my sentences if I hit space or something, ending in some REALLY weird messages!! I turned it off, because it was taking me a lot longer trying to go back and edit my messages ex-post-facto than just make a spelling error here or there.
do you know where i can get the lib file at? im using bombaridier and it doesnt have it in the lib file.
