It's all up to you, devs!
Unfortunately I already expected this to happen.
It's up to devs now but HTC certainly made things hard this time.
My opinion on this phone being so hard to crack is already expressed here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19917989&postcount=84
If HTC wanted this big seller to have the bootloader unlocked, they would have done it already by themselves. This model makes too many carriers profit. Lower priced devices are the ones that make carriers earn more money.
Quoting HTCDEV.com: "However, certain models may not be unlockable due to operator restrictions.".
As we can see, only "top" devices got the bootloader unlocked by HTC.
These already gave the necessary profit to the carriers through contracts (mostly). :-$
From what I see on the other hand (at least here in Portugal) is that most of the people that buy high-end devices like those supported on HTCDEV.com, buy them unbranded and network unlocked already.
My best thought are with the devs now. Godspeed.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
This can't be happening!!!!!!!!!!!!! After all we've done; signing petitions, phoning, chatting, talking, sending emails, breathing, even, they just gave up on them. How could they do this to us?!?!?!?!?!? There are some very, very, very, cold hearted people in Taiwan. This is truly unbelievable. There's probably going to be riots because of this!
Come on Devs, we're counting on you!
These XTC people could at least help us.

Was intending to attempt some binary hackery but it looks like the binaries are obfuscated. It seems like at this point trying to hide hacks from the manufacturers would be pointless, so I don't really understand why obfuscation would be desired.
I'll jack with it later.

The software can't be that much different. I don't really know how their hack works so I can't say if they are trying to crack it still or just need some testing.

Guys
As many of you may know faux123 is an awesome kernel developer and mike1986 highly recommend him but he do not have a HOX to develop kernels. Now we have kernel source, won't it be a good idea to let faux123 run his magic on our HOX.
What do you say?
you can donate directly on his blog http://www.canonspike.com/Canon_Spike!/Blog/Entries/2012/4/17_My_First_Android_Blog_Update.html

No one is forcing anyone to donate. Its just for info that a great kenel developer is accepting donation for buying HOX. It was only posted on his twitter and not on XDA. So its to inform everyone on XDA about his work and accelerating the process for his HOX purchase.
Thanks for understanding

Hobbies? Are you joking? Playing football and tennis are jobs; full-time jobs in a multi-billion pound industry. How can you even compare the two?
The proper comparison would be comparing playing sports professionally to making kernels for HTC (or some other company) because THEN he would be given a phone to develop on.
It would be more like me going "I'm not professional at football or anything, but would someone please buy me my boots, ball and drive me to the park?"
I'm not trying to insult anyone (least of all the developer) and if people want to help buy someone else a phone then that's absolutely fine, it just seems a little odd to me.
ill gladly donate

Xmoo said it should work, but after he gave it a try, it didn't. The hd7 unlock cable is basically an external powered USB OTG cable+microsd usb reader+microsd card (goldcard). It's nothing you couldn't build on your own. But It won't work because the HD7 gets S-Off'ed via Goldcard. Goldcards don't work on Tegra3 devices. Sorry guys, the OP has become really massive my fault!

As much as I hate to say it I agree with Xmoo, theres been e-petitions, signed letters, huge letters to the CEO's etc. They aren't going to give it us, too much of a risk. Atleast not until theres enough new devices around that the HOX isn't so popular.
But I'd give it 2 years + before they give S-off to HOX.
Would love for this to actually do something, but I'm with Xmoo.....
The carriers just won't stand for it. I reckon HTC would do it if it weren't for the beating they'd get from the carriers.

S-On makes it hard to brick a device.
S-Off makes it easy to brick a device.
I don't think HTC want to deal with the warranty issues of people who cant follow simple instructions. Many of them don't even know what phone they have.

You have to think as well htc haven't thought it through. With s-off you completely loose your warranty so if there making cash of fixing s-on phones they would make more with s-off,as people would send the phone in with no warranty. So to me it sound like htc didn't think there whole security through in the 1st place.
Or am I not right, btw I'm all for s-off and want it bad I don't care for my warranty at all

I'd bet that anyone on XDA etc, is the type of person people ask about phone recommendations. Power users may not directly be the biggest piece of the pie chart, but i could almost guarantee they are the type to make recommendations to their friends and family.

honestly for S-OFF testing from two HTC phones I was a tester for.. (HTC Rezound (included use of a paperclip..., and the HTC Inc4gLTE)

This is still a good offer to any dev eager to build in which they either didn't get a chance to unlock or bricked theirs during testing. Of course not a large user base at this point but once a dev always a dev and they will get the itch!
