Update roms - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What's the most updated rom out there.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App

Right now, I think the one I use, Blazing ROMs Fusion 4.0.

What do you mean by updates? stock updates? app updates?

I'm using RCMix3D Runny, it has sense 3.5 and Android 2.3.5. He updates whenever something new is out. And it runs very smooth and fast. Everything works but 4g, but he will fix it when sprint gets a sense 3.5 phone. Check it out.

What is the best software to put on DInc ?

I just discovered Rooting and putting stuff on my Incredible , and I have noticed before that I've seen new Gingerbread software come out and Ice Cream and I'm still stuck on Android 2.2 .. any suggestions ? And how would I got about doing it ?
well, there are currently no leaks at all for Ice Cream so that is out of the question. For Gingerbread i would recommend CM7 at http://www.cyanogenmod.com/ it has gingerbread and is VERY fast and stable but, does not have sense. There are many threads here about flashing roms so i don't really feel like i need to go into that but look around and i guarantee you can find one.

The best one to flash is the one you like the most. Everything isn't for everybody. I did gingerbread for awhile now I'm on zroms. Its up to you there all good and the developers rock.

Personally I like the Z ROMs the most, but chefyocum is correct.

never understood why people want to use iphone theme on android. short term is fine for those who change frequently but if u want the iPhone...just get one instead of android

Hmm... I like the way my phone looks and feels, android market, widgets, and the customization.... If we wanted an iphone we would have one!

Well first decide if you like sense, which is basically the HTC interface of your stock ROM, or AOSP, which is the android interface the way google designed it. Then you can pick a corresponding rom. For example, SkyRaider Sense 4.0 is sense rom, and CM7 is AOSP.
SkyRaider Sense
CM7 Nightlies AOSP
As far as getting it done there are plenty of guides that can be found by searching for rooting and flashing roms. Also, most rom threads in these forums have instructions in the first post.
CyanogenMod 7 FTW!
If you decide on aosp salvage mod and evervolv are both excellent roms

i like skyraider and uber roms from joel.....both are nice and have sense wich is what i like. not into the asop roms since no sense
I recommend the new GB leak or gingersense remix... I'm a big sense ui fan though. AOSP definately CM7
If you want sense go for Uber Z. VERY STABLE ROM. If not, then go for CM7.
I use either Warm Z two point two or Skyraider 4.0 since both are very stable, fast, and solid battery life. I stick to warm z 90% of the time though. I like landscape. lol

CM7 Nightlies
Stable vs. Beta
There are a lot of Beta Roms running Gingerbread and various versions of HTC Sense.
CyanogenMod 7 is by far the most stable Gingerbread ROM I've see out there (although it's Vanilla so you won't see any HTC Sense going on).
The nice thing about ROMs is you can flash, flash, and flash some more.
I'll second Uber Z for Sense and CyanogenMod 7 for AOSP.
But, as Sharpe said, you can flash and flash to your heart's content. With these Sense 3.0 leaks, I've been flashing like a maniac and having a blast. And if a ROM doesn't work for me, I can just restore to my Nandroid backup and I'm back to where I started (CM7, in this case). ^.^
I'm rocking Carbonite v5. Awesome visuals, great battery life, and very fast.

[Q] Most stable. Sense 3.0 rom

I'm a diehard aosp Rom flasher because I like the customabilty and flexability they offer. My wife on the other hand is used to the HTC sense experience but she wants me to root her evo, so I"m asking all you Sense lovers out there to weigh in on the most stable Rom's using Sense 3.0, she"s gonna be mad if i constantly have to fix her phone. Thanks in advance for your opinions!

lol sorry man, but i havent really had a stable rom they all have the same issue which is that the lockscreen takes a long while to load and sense keeps on restarting with my phone so yeah for me, none yet
Might I suggest MikG, if you want Sense 2.1 with a lot of 3.0 ported over? I would say that the most stable 3.0 ROMs are based on the Kingdom port, so look for Virus's ROM. I also like BeKinged, which has a lot of bloat removed.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1096682
[WIP][DEV]HTC Sensation Port[2.3.3][sense 3.0]: this is a work in progress, developer rom, but sense 3.0 none the less
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1035350&highlight=sense+3.0
But if you want stable and new, i would go with sense 2.1 alot more stable, and alot of them have sense 3.0 apks that are flashable. plus its a update from sense 1.0, a couple new features.
for the sense 2.1 roms use the search button theyre are alot of them.
hope this helps, if so thanx button is there for a reason
MikG or AVA... seems like the rest just theme off of their ROMS
Thanks for the info, but there's no Thanks button on mobile app so THANK YOU!

I've been using this for a few days now. With this ROM, the new OTA kernel, and the new radio, my phone is getting great battery life and it's running very smoothly.
The only thing that i have noticed that isn't working on this ROM, after flashing the new kernel, is Google Earth. It force closes a lot. Hopefully the next version of the ROM will correct it.
The MikG is probably the best of them all with its 2.1/3.0 hybrid. I haven't been happy with the full blown 3.0 sense ROMs. I like for everything to work including cameras, video, 4G etc. I'm gonna wait for the EVO 3D a device that was actually designed to run 3.0. It reminds me of people running Vista on a Pentium III.
Went with Saks Virus port... my girl totally loves it, no issues yet (fingers crossed)

Official EVO 2.3 based roms?

Will there be custom roms based off the official gingerbread update soon? Is it necessary? I would feel better to have a custom rom based of the official update just released. Also can it be used and have sense 3.0 inserted? That would be awesome. I'm pretty sure that only bits and pieces will be used the fix issues and stuff. What do you think?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Yes. I'm sure there's one or more available at this very moment. As for elements of Sense 3.0, the Synergy rom has it. It is Gingerbread, Sense 2.1 and 3.0 all rolled in one. It should be available to the masses very soon. It is very well built

Sounds good. I can't wait to see it. Hopefully everything works like hdmi and all the bells and whistles.

Who else is looking forward to G2 official 2.3 so we can get some new AOSP roms!

I can't wait! I know we have 2.3 already but am very excited bout some new roms based off of it using the proprietary drivers and stuff that was made specifically for this phone! I know the desire z finally came out but not a big fan of sense. Love my CM but ready for a change of scenery I did not have this phone in the beginning but I'm assuming there was a butt load of custom froyo roms based off the official till froyo became old news.

the leaked gingerbread build for the g2 is the official and there are already asop roms out. check out rmks glite rom.
Totally agree with you OP! Use to like sense but not much anymore, to me feels like a bloatware and takes up to much resources. Whilst I do love CM7, theres always somthing that doesn't function quite right.
Has the official 2.3 update arrived yet for the G2? Or any ETA's?

Its not the final. People who have gotten the phone with that build of gb on it from tmobile (refurbs) have been told they have accidentally gotten a test build of gingerbread on it. Also if it was really the final why would it have been finished months ago and still not released.

Check out mexDroidrom's pre-ghost chili rom. It's super fast with eye candy

What's the benefit for using an ICS over GB rom?

I'm using Android Revolution HD 7.0.2, and that's on GB. There's loads of work on ICS roms, but why are there if they have lots of bugs? I'm intrigued but don't think it's worth waiting for the official release. Views? What are the benefits if I switched to a ICS rom?

well you can look at videos of it and see how its different. The capabilities of the phone are better, there are more options to modify the phone. Also sense 4.0 and ics 4.0 roms are very well integrated. Here is the best one so far with sense 4.0
