He should be able to export his id card from his phone and import it to his Gmail account which will add the contacts to his account. But if the contacts are all gone he's screwed

That option is not there under sync.. I tried that first.
I did however try the Setup app.. when it gets to set up your google account it force closes every time..
Seems this is on Google's end?

Yeah.. but only the HTC gmail shows up.. no Google..
I read on some other forums that this has occurred a lot on different phones the past day. This seems all Google.
Google+ won't even work

FWIW, I'm not having any trouble syncing with Google, but I don't have a Google+ account.
If you have already rebooted, and even done a *228 and Option 1 to confirm programming, then knipp is probably right.
Market and Google apps were messed for me a couple days after the OTA Gingerbread update. Same thing happened to a couple other people. You need to factory reset.
My Google contacts disappeared after the last OTA..and I couldn't add an account... Factory reset is only thing that worked..
Sent from my ADR6350 using XDA App
Really? Ugh.. I don't wanna factory reset haha
Sent from my ADR6350 using XDA App
Well this blows. I havent lost any contacts but my phone seems very sluggish and some emails are not showing up. I restarted 2x and resynced my accts. Still nothing.
Will a factory reset cause me to lose all my contacts, pictures, apps, etc?!
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
It won't erase your pictures or anything else on your SD card. If your contacts are synced with Google, then they'll restore after you go through the setup again. Apps may be restored through Google, (not 100% sure if the stock rom does this), but you won't have your app data such as game saves, settings, etc.
Yea factory restore is kind of a pain. But it may help in the long run. It's always good to put a new OS on a clean system. Factory restore resolved my issues.

Factory restore should fix.

I'm guessing you haven't sync'd your Google acct yet...Try to sign into gmail on a regular computer see if they still there, if not then I think you're SOL sorry.

Just go to settings - accounts - then click on google. You see where it says sync gmail and click it. Give about a minute to sync. Then check contacts.

OK, so, I don't want to run Exchange on my personal phone anymore (I have a mandatory carry BB) but I want to keep all the contacts.
I don't want to use kies, or any app to do a backup (cause I try custom roms all the time) I just want the contacts.
Anyone know how to rip them out to be put back in w a custom rom without an app?

Send them via bluettoth from your bb

Are these contacts also on your bb? Because when you remove exchange from your epic the exchange contacts will disappear then you can share them from your bb using bluettoth and then they will sync with Google and always be available in the future
This was the simplest way for me. I know there are other ways however I am not familiar with them

You should be able to export them to the SD card, remove the Exchange account, then import them again.

So, I want to back up the contacts I had on my phone sim card before flashing rom -Aokp task 650-.
I really cant stand that it auto synched all my google contacts. In fact... I think the invention of synch should be completely eliminated it messes up everything.
So I only want to have phone contacts and nothing to do with any synch or email or anything. I think i been clear enough haha.
Also the jellybean limits my options about contacts and sim card and such.
So...what options do i have?
Thank you in advance.

1. Get GoContacts or GoContactsEx. You can export all your contacts into an XML file. After you load your ROM, simple import the list back.
I would strongly recommend this cos of ease. Plus, you could keep multiple copies of contacts export files.
2. In TiBu, backup contacts storage, and restore later and reboot.

Go into contacts...hit menu... select contacts to display. Then select which ones you want to display i.e. phone, Google, Facebook, etc. Or create customized list. Phone is what is saved to your phone not Google. When you flash it's basically nothing but you

SIM card has limits on number of fields you can store. So if all you store is numbers, this method should work great.
