Miui v4 ics preview - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Check it out, IMHO this looks gorgeous

Very interesting. I'm not sure if I like it or not, I think I def. like everything except I'm not sold on the launcher, it looks dated.

Looks nice but doesn't seem too different from the usual miui

Well MIUI is MIUI so it is what it is. But with ICS you get hardware support.
G2x - 2.3.7 CM7
Transformer - 3.2 Revolver OC/UV

From the bottom of my heart... ----> **** Miui
Educate yourself!

I have to say that looks just about like past MIUI iterations. And I agree with what someone said earlier in the thread, the launcher does look quite dated. Quite frankly I never did like MIUI because I'm not a fan of imitating the iPhone.

God damn that music app is beautiful.
As much as I hate MIUI's lack of app drawer, I love how everything is skinnable and gets updated frequently with useful content.
Also they just seem to have a better handle on interface design than any manufacturer or in some places even Google themselves.

You are using Android, and you are on a forum called XDA-developers. Presumably you care a little bit about software freedom, openness, being able to tinker and not be limited by what some vendor tells you to do.
So what the hell are you doing with MIUI?

So you're telling people who take advantage of software freedom by using the software of their choice to not use the software they like?
Seems a bit counter-intuitive don't you think?
In fact the very idea behind the "freedom" of Android is the release of free source code for developers to do whatever they want with. The developers behind MIUI just happen to be making something you dislike.

Miui is actually pretty cool if you replace the launcher; the built in customizations are pretty in depth. I agree with most in that I hate the stock launcher and iPhone appearance, but that all easily goes away with ADW or Go!
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk

i hope that music app will work on other roms, that looks amazing vs the stock android music.

Sorry my eyes can't justify going back to MIUI after ICS.

The Music.apk from MIUI usually works across the different roms. I'm pretty sure you can install it and get it working.

I have to agree here. Stock ICS is damn good. I used to install all sorts of roms on my N1. I flew stock on my NS for the 9 months I had that, I don't see that changing with the GN, really digging what they've done with this phone and OS.

Uh Miui slow?
I personally don't like Miui because its too much like iOS and less like Android but you are so wrong here.
I know bench marks are not worth much but I could get my Nexus S to score over 3000 in Quadrant using Miui. Only Miui. I could not get score's like that with other roms.
Its a very very good rom, just not the Android style.

Why is MIUI so popular?

I have tried the rom, and for the life of me i can't understand why anyone with a brain would want an evo that runs and looks like a piece of **** iphone.
If you are so determined to be another brainless zombie then go buy the iphone and stop polluting the good name of android by using a rom like MIUI.

Fast, efficient, themes, intuitive, GB, tons of built in useful apps...
Sure, not for everyone. You lose Sense. Its not your typical pure AOSP Rom.
But for me, its the best experience possible given my usage habbits.
Why. This is Why!
MIUI just has so much more built in stock! Think of it as an alternative launcher of sorts. Its still android just with MIUI on top. I would compare MIUI to Sense, Launcher pro, spb. They just emphasize the themes more.
Built in FTP, screenshots and eye candy!!!!!
You obviously haven't ran it for longer than a week........
There's more to MIUI than looking like an iPhone. I don't like the iPhone, I don't want an iPhone, but I like MIUI. It runs well, it has some nice rom-specific apps, and with easy theming it looks really nice.
Anyone that has to rant that much about hating the iPhone and anything that looks like it needs to grow up. Sorry. People like what they like, I'm not sure why you think calling people names over personal preference makes you better than them.
My Evo + xda Premium App = This post.
I would like to add that the Iphone is a great phone. I would recommend it for any one not tech savy (intermediate user), on the other hand android is for the more advanced user who is NOT scared to void a warranty lol.
Only self indulgent turds use miui. Its overrated.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
First off lol Iphone is over priced and insane price for the plan. Nothing new about all of them the latest phone's kick the crap outta them. I hate iphone but have nothing against people who like it personal taste.
Miui isn't all that bad it's fun to mess around with to see what you can do with it worth checking out nice features in it. CM7 is sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet takes my cake
well i like my LP better on VP3.2 but to each his own, i think miui is a good transition rom for recovering appleoholics like my wife who traded the iphone for an evo, but couldn't really get used to it at first, i gave her miui and earned myself a nice BJ, couple months later made the flash to real android with azrael and, happy ending
lol. I love when people get mad about rom choices. If you actually used MIUI and saw all of the benefits(wireless FTP alone makes it awesome) then you would not cry. It offers things that no other rom offers. It is faster. Because it looks like the iphone you hate it. Why do you hate the iphone, because you love Android? If you love Ford do you have to hate Chevy? Grow up.
When MIUI gets the errors out of GB I'm switching back to it. They were becoming so excellent with 2.2, wimax was around the corner, then GB leaked.
MIUI is a great ROM. Just because it looks like an iPhone launcher doesn't mean it's bad, not at all. If you're going to whine and complain about the iPhone, then do it elsewhere, because I for one don't care. MIUI with Launcher 7 was one of my favorite setups. I had great battery life, the menus are easy to navigate, and it has lots of cool little features. MIUI is a very creative ROM, especially when compared to other ROMs that don't bring anything new to the table.
It seems to me just you're letting your hatred of the iPhone blind you to the greatness that is MIUI.

Asop/Aokp vs Miui

I have used almost every single AOKP/asop ROM for this phone and have seen the good, bad and ugly. I prefer Xylon and XenonHD more that the rest. I have never used a Miui rom, not sure why.

Really? Are you using the most recent OFFICIAL release of miui?
Wait.. if u have an lte gnex, this could be your issue since the sprint and verison versions get 3rd party ports of the i9250 version.
Anyways, I use miui and, while there is some interface lag compared with aosp, its still a great ROM. Aosp is hideous IMHO, especially since 4.2 came out.

Noup. Im using the OFFICIAL for Gnex MAGURO, build by Xiaomi (The one found HERE). Im flashing 3.1.11, which is the latest according to that site. Using TWRP to flash. Might been a bad download, if you insist that its working fine for you, but i did a little research, and some people were complaining about the same bug, so i thought that it was the rom, not me.
EDIT: Just checked, and i highly doubt its a bad download because MD5 matchs with the one posted on the site.

Ok, got MIUI to work. Seems like its not a good idea to flash the ROM and GAPPs on the same go. I had to flash rom, boot the phone, set it up, go to recovery again, and flash gapps, after that, everything seems to be working fine. Even the browser. Seems like that was the key.

What happened devs?

Did something new come out? Have we hit a brick wall? At one point the roms and updates were being cranked out.. now nothing. What's going on?

I think a lot of pressure was for us to get jelly bean. We got it and things calmed down. We still have development. But, this device just isn't in enough hands. When CM get finished that should give us a pretty stable foundation for other popular AOSP roms. So, at this point that seems to be what is the most important milestone. I don't know how that is progressing though.

I'm really glad the first response wasn't a "hey stop asking, flame flame flame."
But yeah, I feel the same. The camera and other fixes in CM will make it stable and people will build on top of that. Why bother making new ROMs if your old ones are good and why build on CM if the camera (a pretty popular use of smartphones nowadays) isn't working?

What's needed most is themes. Good, full themes. I would kill to see somebody port Myn's Warm over to the LGOG. I'm sure somebody would like to see a TW or the new Moto look as well. Nobody has even bothered to mod any of the theme apks that come built in to the LG software. It may not be CM theme manager level of awesome but our phones does have a theme manager built in.
Except for base ROMs like AOSP/CM there really isn't a reason for new ROMs. To be honest, Imperium Initiative isn't even a ROM, I simply released it as one because I was feeling lazy and didn't want to write the script for it. If I had, it only would have been around a 50-60MB DL.

I'm content with what we have for the moment. And I've been poking around with some files myself trying to get features we should have (QSlide apps) working and other things of interest.
What languages/scripts and what do you guys make/bake and mod/theme Roms with and in? I know just some of the stepping stones, but have lots of time to learn. With a bit of self study I don't see myself being able to make roms, but surely theming/modding.
can anybody port iOS? Totally kidding.
I'm looking forward to what is coming, but at the same time, we do have some very good, stable ROMs. Something that can be said for our device that cannot be said for many others is that all of our ROMs that are not in testing are stable. Quality before quantity and all that. I was looking through the GS3 forums for a friend yesterday and they have so many options you simply could not possibly know what is good and what is not without reading pages upon pages of posts. It was awful!
Anyway, I think it's a valid question but from my POV I'm pretty happy with where we are at.

I'm guessing the new camera can be used, it has an improved UI so its easier to use than the one on 4.2. But really there isn't anything else that's worth it, it's either an unfinished release, or that's pretty much what Google decided to change. There are however some under the hood improvements they talked would be pushed soon at Google I/O.

Just subscribe to my thread that is stickied in the top of this forum, the link is also in my sig. I have all the latest ports from all the devices and updated pretty much immediately after there released.
So far, the camera, boot screen and live wallpaper has been ported from the Google edition phones. These (at least the camera) are rumored to be the same as the 4.3 update. To my understanding, nothing else has really been ported because there really isnt anything. The 4.3 that leaked is essentially the same as 4.2 with very minor changes most of it is under the hood.
Personally, im hoping that that isnt the final update of 4.3 that will get pushed because it is a little disappointing.

I couldn't agree more. Hence the lack of the talk at Google io just because it is so weak. Fluidity is good but they need to keep innovating.. Unless they just wanted to tie up some loose ends before klp comes but idk its sorta strange so their must be other things in the pipeline
Edit although picture quality does seem much improved in comparison to the 4.2.2 cams we currently have. IMO they seem much less grainy and just overall better.

I feel like that since jelly bean has been released it just keeps getting more "under the hood" work rather than visual etc...
I have a feeling that the upcoming versions of android is gonna be fine tuned versions of what we already have we probably won't see any major ui overhaul for quite a bit

Which is why they were all named jelly bean. Lol. hopefully key lime pie will have a more cheery theme to it.

Yeah iOS7 is getting a major UI rehaul. I think Google understands they'll need to make a rehaul too to keep ahead of the game.

I don't really feel the need of a revamped ui it does look good at the moment i think just small changes such as the icon's are getting pretty boring..

iOS 7 looks like Android. I wouldn't call that a rehaul, but more of a carbon copy.
+Cool story, bro!
+The "Thanks" you get from me is not just thanks, but can be laughing, props, +1, and so on

Not just android... Running apps looks like webOS and WP8 combined. The rest looks like android only a tad more colourful. I honestly think all that translucency they're touting masks an otherwise bland and overly simplistic UI. I mean, look at those icons! They look like a 10 year old made them.

Considering the Optomus G pro but...

Hey guys thinking of upgrading to this phone and I love the look, feel, and features of this phone, but it doesn't look like you guys have much going on in the way of development? I'd be coming from the Samsung Infuse, so I'm a bit spoiled, when the phone was newer lots of developers were building and porting custom roms, and currently there are about 4 variations of updated (Android 4.1+) roms in development. Currently I'm on Beanstalk for the Infuse (android 4.3) which is a great rom with tons of customization.
I wouldn't mind learning and developing myself but with the apparent shortness of developers this could be slow going. Am I missing something here, is there just not a lot of development because this is a relatively new device, or is it a hard or impossible device to hack?

I came from the note 1 so I know the feeling...but I gotta tell you the stock software is really that good...I don't really miss any of my custom roms I use to run..the only thing I do miss is my theme on the theme engine.
Once cm10 gets closer we may see more since most roms are based off it but who knows.
I wouldn't expect development like what you're use to but like I said I don't miss it at all..
Hopefully the Nexus 5 will have a 5" screen like the rumors suggest and I can finally get a nexus device.
Yeah there a cm10.1 thats almost a daily. Pretty much everything works just a few bugs. There are repositories for a slimbean 4.3 on github but idk how far along that is as there been no release. And over in android forums there a guy working on a stock debloated deodexed rom and the bootloaders only been bypassed for a month or so. It took a while to get it unlocked but development has been goin pretty well since then. Just gonna take time.

So now that the bootloader has been cracked, we should see some more development soon I'd think? I'm just surprised this isn't a more popular device, the specs on it are bad ass.

Well like mrdsl said cm10 is the base for many of the good rom anyway and its almost done so I would expect to see development pick up soon. Especially as att keeps dropping the price makeing this easily the cheapest snapdragon600 device making it very appealing to many more people we should see the community for this phone grow a lot.

Not cracked, just bypassed makes a world of difference and according to what I've been told from LG reps they have no plans on unlocking the bootloader or releasing any source code

My understanding is the source that came from Samsung was leaked so hopefully something similar will happen with LG.

I enjoy mine and it's running stock but rooted. I've been able to do what I want with just root like getting rid of pesky qslides bar. It's cool but I don't use it and the apps are still there so ya. If you get this phone you'll enjoy it. Either way good luck with whatever you choose!
IMHO, a phone that good, stock rom is good enough!
Stock ROM of Gpro is great.....and optimized.
I didnt miss CM or PA at all.
Exactly . Best rom by any android company released

I agree .. it's a good stock rom. I would have to say most people install roms to improve performance but even on the Note2 I had I wasn't installing roms like I did in the past on every device prior.. and in fact this G pro benchmarks about 60 to 100 percent faster than the Note2 in most ... and so far it's been the fastest, slickest device I've used by far. I'm using Apex Launcher for customizing .. and at this point my phone looks like stock Android 4.3 and runs lightning quick.. and battery life has been stellar. And I'm liking and using the quicknote dedicated button! Only thing I miss about my note2 is kinda the S-pen and the inky blacks(contrast)
I have own a lot of Samsung devices...starting from s2 to s4 and I change my s4 for this device because I didn't feel I big upgrade from s3...of course I miss switching rooms but I can tell you that this phone is a lot quicker than many phone out there...the G pro is a lot more responsive than my wife note 2 and what I love about this phone is BATTERY this monster last the whole day

do u kno if theres a black theme where the dialerpad, contact list and system settings are dark?
Stock is good, but modded roms are better. that's my option. Because the stock rom is so perfect, we're hailing the rom, but we better make sure that doesn't offend the developers. Even it is perfect, it is still 4.1, we will need 4.2/4.3 roms very soon, and LG won't catch up with our interest. So, we better appreciate what developers are trying now. Pls don't say we don't want mod roms.
For me, I just have one request to the devs, whatever you do, pls make sure the Quick Remote is in your rom, coz I'm already obsessed with it so much. now I can control everything around me with my phone.
