[Q] does it matter if i got r800a instead of r800i? - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

does it matter if i got r800a instead of r800i?
because every guide i see for this phone is for R800i and i have r800a if i use rom or root guides for the I version will it work on my version??

same question and...
can we flash a r800i firmware in our r800a? is there any difference between the firmwares (for example something doesn't work)?
ok r800a is North Amerca, but what does it mean for features?

They are both gsm phones and both the firmwares are made for gsm radio so they will work with no problem on either the r800a or r800i. I've got an r800a running r800i firmware it works perfectly. The features are pretty much the exact same the only real difference is in the bloatware

Ya the only real difference between the two is that the r800a supports a very more frequencies than the r800i (namely the 3g used in North America)

I've just bought a R800a (live in americas...) and the SEUS and PCCompanion refuse to update the phone to 2.3.4
when i first used the phone it said there was an update, i was expecting to get the latest version but it installed the 2.3.3 android version.
as this is a brand new phone, i did not root or flash it yet. actually i bought it because my girlfriend's Xperia NEO updated to 2.3.4 like a charm, then i tough "oh, all xperias must be using the latest android before ICS goes out". :-\
does anyone have a r800i to confirm if it will upgrade to 2.3.4 using sony tools? thanks!

What's the difference between 4.0.2.A.0.42 and 4.0.1.A.0.283?

As the title says, what is the difference?
Just wondering which one I should install.
I read over in the arc section that .283 is for Nordic countries and .42 is the rest of the world

Yes, they're virtually the same. Though I'd go with version 4.0.2.A.0.42 because it's just a more generic version (I think?). Really, whichever one works for you is fine because they're both being supported by devs as the most recent version...
Ok. Thank you both for your help.

Thanks for clearing that out. One more question though, it wasnt really clear from the post if it supports 2.3.3. So does it mean ill have to downgrade to 2.3.2 before using that version of flashtool?

Flashtool flashes any version of a ROM why would it flash one version?

Really? Nothing happens if I install something build from R800i or any other model?
And the GSM at the begin of the posts, dont gonna leave me without CDMA?
Thanks!
I don't think it matters. I used to have a stock r800at but I installed TrueAncestor v. 1.4b and it changed it to an r800i. I haven't seen any problems in the month I've used it!
Falsh the enhanced version of stock rom .58 and after flashing your r800a will become r800i. Then flash doom kernel through fastboot. Then search for any gingerbread rom and flash through CWM. Thats all.

Yep, they work perfectly in Latin America, just make sure to do a nandroid (full backup) and you should be fine, then you can test every ROM out there with a backup to rely on and roll back if necessary.

The UK version has mediascape UI and timescape UI
Verizons 2.3.3 was vanilla gingerbread, I was told verizons 2.3.3 is pretty much a striped down version of the UK 2.3.3, of course with the added verizon bloatware

Xperia Play R800x using UK ROM 2.3.3 Upgrading to 2.3.4?

Hey guys. So I have a CDMA PLAY with root and unlocked boot loader and I am only using the UK ROM as because its the nicest, smoothest, loudest and most stable rom I've used. However, the rom is 2.3.3 and I just wanted to know if I can upgrade to the UK Version of 2.3.4. If I can please tell me how. Thanks in advance!

Actually, no, you can't. The uk version you're running is on a kernel that is compatible with gsm and cdma. If you tried to update/upgrade using anything other than something community-built, you will lose data, due to incompatibilities between gsm and cdma.

Well, is there anything community built, for the UK version of 2.3.4? Because I'd really like to know. 2.3.4 has a lot more features for the UK ROM, so that's why I want it. ^_^;;;
