Hi All,
First post here. Got a HTC Wildfire S last week on Vodafone Ireland (I think its the A510e version, if that makes any difference, maybe someone could point out the difference). I want to debrand it if possible, and upgrade to 2.3.5 in the process. I'm just wondering is this safe to do on my phone, and which stock rom to use. As far as I can see its branded Vodafone UK though.
It is sim locked to vodafone, but I can get it unlocked for free from Vodafone, if I should do that before debranding.
Baseband Version: 47.10.35.3029h_7.46.35.08
Build No: 1.33.161.2 CL44680 release-keys
And which of these should I use, if either are suitable:
RUU_Marvel_HTC_Europe_1.30.401.0_Radio_47.10.35.30 29H_7.46.35.08_release_183799_signed.exe
RUU_Marvel_HTC_Europe_1.33.401.2_Radio_47.10.35.30 29H_7.46.35.08_release_185724_signed
My understanding is that the second one is the stock European ROM, Would my guess be right, and I presume it has english, yes? I want to use it on the Vodafone IE network, but the battery bug and the branded software on the phone are getting on my nerves.
I apologise for not posting in the development forum, if that is where I should post this, but I cant do so before posting 10 posts. I have read the debranding guide, I just dont want to brick my phone or something. I also have used the search function as best I can, I've been reading about it for hours, but there's just so much material on here I'm getting swamped, but that's a great thing, keep up the good work
Thanks,
Laurence
It's safe mate if you run an official ruu and make sure you have enough battery.
I would use the new Europe 2.13... Posted in development section in the sticky shipped roms. It has better performance and battery. Also updates gingerbread to 2.3.5.
The 2 roms you mention would not update you to 2.3.5 you would remain on 2.3.3 also you can only update to a higher Rom version, unless you are s-off or create a gold card.
Thanks for the reply, completely missed that Rom in the sticky, glad I asked before I tried it
Are you saying that I can upgrade to 2.13 without a goldcard? I presumed I needed one anyway. And do I set the phone to sync or what setting to run the Ruu?
Thanks for the help, really appreciate it
EDIT: Or will I need the gold card anyway to do the debranding?

Make sure phone is set to usb debugging mode in application, development settings.
Make sure you have HTC sync installed on your pc.
Plug up your phone then select HTC sync mode.
Now wait for a minute to see if HTC sync opens on your pc, if it does close it but not by closing the window but going to taskbar icon and right click then exit. If it doesn't open still check taskbar to see if It's running, if yes close same way.
NOTE: If HTC sync is running when trying to upgrade you will get errors.
Now run the ruu and follow instructions.
Don't think you need a gold card if you are installing a higher HTC software version than what's currently installed. But I could be wrong.
Good luck mate.

Goldcard will be absolutely necessary because phone is branded - Vodafone Ireland.
Any branded phone requires goldcard for updating to the European 2.3.5 RUU.
Thanks will remember that next time mate.
Wasn't sure as i was s-off with xtc.. so didn't have to go through it.

You're welcome mate! When flashing the European RUU's on branded phones we get error 131 (Customer ID or something similar).
I wish I had someone with a XTC-Clip near me but unfortunately that isn't easy where I live.
Will have to wait for the geniuses here to S-OFF by software.
My best thoughts are with them.
Thanks for the replies, I downloaded the ruu earlier but I had no usb cable where I was, now I'm at home and the file won't download, so I've plenty time to make a goldcard before getting the ruu file Monday. I had a suspicion that I'd have to make one alright. I'll give it a go as soon as I can and hope for the best. Hope I don't brick my phone anyway, wouldn't want that.

You're welcome on my part.
If you do things right and have your phone ready with enough battery, everything will be fine.
Have you tried this link:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/47984246/Gingerbread 2.3.5 (v2.13.401.2).zip
Maybe you can download from there. If you do just unzip the file and run ARUwizard.exe with the phone connected in charge mode only and USB debugging enabled. HTC Sync should be closed.
Good luck!
Okay thanks for the link I think I managed to download the file last night from file manager after clicking on the link a hundred times I also got a goldcard image aswell. The format tool of the SimpleGoldCard utility wouldnt work properly, but I just formatted it fat32 and I'll hope it works.
I'll run the file in a few hours and see what happens, i gotta leave soon and don't know how long the process takes. Fingers crossed
And I really appreciate all the help, thanks guys

Great to hear that you managed to download the file.
Now it would be great to hear that you've updated your phone successfully.
If you do please click the thanks button under my post.

I am soooo happy right now, no more annoying vodafone programs and (hopefully) no more dialer using copius amounts of battery all the time
Thanks for all the help, never could have done it without ye
Now, time to restore all my apps to it

Great news Laurence!
When I debranded my phone I felt great too.
No more crap software, Vodafone startup/shutdown logos were gone and the most important is the memory that we recovered with this process.
It seems that the dialer process still uses most of the battery but I guess this is just a cosmetic bug that isn't fixed (yet).
I'll try to explain what happens with me: now I have dialer with 96%, Phone idle with 2% and Cell Standby with 2%.
However if I dial *#*#4636#*#* and go to "Usage statistics" and sort by "Usage Time" the dialer has only 96884ms of usage, against 354250ms of Messages for example. The messaging (sms) application on my phone obviously used more battery than the dialer, without any doubt.
So if you want "reliable" information on what's "eating" your battery you should use the *#*#INFO#*#* (*#*#4636#*#*) instead.
Miguel
Completely happy with the debranding, after using it for a while I can't see any problems with it atall I charged the phone last night and battery run time was 10 hours at the end of the day. I browsed the internet on wifi, downloaded a few files, read the mail and general stuff, made a call or 2, sent about 25 messages and the battery was at 92pc at the end of the day(I am using that GSM only battery saver tip), I'm completely astounded
I'd estimate that's at least a 25percent improvement over my phone before it was debranded. The vodafone apps must have been sucking a fair amount of juice, as well as the improvement in battery the new android has given me. I'll have to use it for a bit longer to verify thats not a once off occurance, but I've never gotten so much time out of the battery on the phone

Put in the Goldcard and then run the official RUU (you can get one from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6703172&postcount=1)
It should let you install the stock 2.1. Then connect to wifi, go to settings->About Phone->System software updates and hit Check Now.
I did it that way, worked for me.
Thank you for the reply,
How can I be sure what is the ROM RUU that I need?

I used the WWE version (Link: http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bra...00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.exe). When i booted the 2.1 rom after going back to stock, I got options to choose the carrier so it could apply the internet and mms settings. Am on Voda UK. Didnn want to install the Voda ROM as i think voda always release the updates much later than the official releases. After setting up the 2.1, I did update and it worked.
Hi,
1. While installation i got an error message 171 (connection lost), it was waiting for the bootloader when it threw the error
2. I retried the whole process twice and the same thing happened.
Can any one assist me?
Thanks ahead.

Reboot the phone in fastboot mode, i think its press and hold the volume down button as you switch the phone on. then use volume keys to select fastboot and select it with the power button. When you leave this on there, run the RUU and it should work. WITH A GOLDCARD (IMPORTANT).
My desire is unlocked, why do I need a GOLDCARD?
I did exactly what you suggested. I moved it to fastboot but I still get the same
ERROR[171]:USB CONNECTION ERROR
This happens after the PC restart the device so it is not a 'physical Connection' issue.
I have my phone unlocked and the SIM working. From what I read, I need goldcard if I wan't to unclock my SIM...
Please advise
I successfully installed the RUU ROM, but I'm not getting the 2.2 OTA... What should I Do?
My phone is unbranded and unlocked, do I still need a gold card to restore to factory state for warranty purposes?

If you purchased the Desire and it was on an x.xx.405.x software version then you don't need a gold card.
Don't people bother to actually absorb information as this is pretty n00b stuff...
I keep offering to help out with FAQs because this sort of information is not clearly stated. But thanks for letting me know. And I presume HTC read this forum and would know our tricks but apparently its still not a problem.

How would anyone know what version of the software his phone had when he purchased it? I, for instance, knew nothing of the "rooting world" when I got my unbranded unlocked desire, so now, after the OTA upgrade, I don't think I can retrieve that information: am I correct?
In order to absorb information, someone has to give it to you. The process is long (for some longer maybe), but I'm sure you were a n00b once and I hope nobody treated you this way.
Luca
That is correct but if you'd read all threads/information logic would dictate that perhaps it's wise to make a note of what it comes with out the box and make sure you have a back up route in case things go pear shaped/need to be reversed. If all you've done is root the phone and not flashed a ROM then you can still check but if you're now on a custom ROM then you're kinda screwed (unless you just wanna be on an unbranded ROM then you can obviously so this).
Easy way of at least finding out if you're branded or not is to just try and flash a stock WWE RUU without a gold card - if it completes then you're unbranded
Yes, I was a n00b once (Android n00b April this year) but I didn't ask any questions - I just lurked and read other posts and learnt by others mistakes and only asked if I wasn't sure what I was doing. I've had previous mobile phones and so knew about checking version numbers so always make sure I know what I have before trying anything like rooting (or the equivalent term for other makes)
Thank you Eddie.
As a matter of fact, I haven't rooted the phone yet: still in the info gathering stage as I just purchased the phone a month ago. I come from "stupid" phones so never had this problem/opportunity before.
I know for a fact that my phone is not branded, but I don't know:
1) which is the software + radio I should download to restore my phone in case I don't like what I get with rooting;
2) which rom to install: in this specific case, the more you read, the more you get confused. I read some people installing the same rom and one saying it is slower than Luancher Pro + stock rom, others that claim that it is faster than anything they've ever tried (and, mind you, they are talking about the same rom!)
3) last but not least, all guides I found in Italian are relative to using unrevoked with windows 7, while I still run xp and it seems that xp poses some additional problems. I just created a virtual machine on my pc to start using ubuntu, but I never even seen the thing!
However, thanks for the help and sorry about being a little snappish in my previous post. I guess we all approach this problem with different attitudes: some would like it to be a real one-click easy procedure and so keep on asking until they find somebody who does it for them!
Ciao
Luca
Yeah I agree to anti-n00b remarks are getting really old. I'm sure many of us have tried searching threads and doing the right thing, so can we all just get over it? I've offered 6 times now to help create FAQs and not one of the anti-n00bs has offered to help.
Anyway, so I understand then that for those with unbranded / unlocked phones it is a simple matter to restore to factory state. Just thinking in case the USB connector broke or something, which worries me a lot because often connections are rather wobbly although I'm not sure how much that has to do with cheap cables or what.
First off, Yes I have searched more than this site for an answer to the point where my handset would not do anything but go into the recovery menu.
What I want to do is put stock HTC Android on my Desire.

Hmmm,
How would they know if the HTC Sense ROM just happened to be rooted. One could argue that the ROM was a valid HTC ROM. I know it's semantics but ...
The "About phone" would still show HTC as the ROM.
There must already be a variety of ROMs on HTC desires already used in your company.
The Clockwork recovery would give it away mate.

This might work for you Not sure if you have tried it but try again
WAIT, BEFORE YOU START, CREATE A GOLDCARD. IT IS VERY NECESSARY. THINGS WILL GO WRONG IF YOU DONT.
Firstly, download this file. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13240777/Desire Downgrade.ZIP
Extract the files.
Run the win-down.bat file.
Follow on screen instructions.
After the process is completed, Head to the root of your SD card and check if there is a file named PB99IMG, there should be one.
Secondly, disconnect your phone and turn it off. (MAKE SURE PHONE IS CHARGED TO AT LEAST 70%++
After that boot up your phone while pressing the volume down button and the power button.
The bootloader should be checking for files after awhile and once it found the file that is supposed to be in the root of your sd card, press the volume up button (NOT EXACTLY SURE, SHOULD BE THE ONE THAT SAYS YES AND CONTINUE)
It should be writing files to your phone. and replaces everything. E.G: HBOOT, RECOVERY,RADIO and such.
It should be writing files successfully and then it would ask you to reboot. Continue with the reboot and you should be having your Desire back to stock. Perfect.
PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT THERE ARE RISKS INVOLVED LIKE FAILURE OF WRITING TO THE HBOOT. PLEASE REMEMBER TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS. MAINLY, DO NOT BLAME ME FOR ANYTHING THAT GOES WRONG.
FINALLY, YOU SHOULD BE READING EVERYTHING UP TO HERE AND THAT YOU MUST HAVE A GOLDCARD (A GOLD SD CARD)
Hope this helps you and please ask if you have further questions. PM me if the questions cannot be answered here. Good Luck

Yup, "ERROR 140:BOOTLOADER VERSION ERROR" The only time you can put a lower bootloader version is when you have a gold card.
The above method posted by Shockem should work. A second method is to just put a gold card in your device and get the latest WWE RUU. Check my signature for the file. Once a gold card is in, it will work. Note that this method unbrands your device, so if you a branded device with visible logos, dont go for this.
Third method is by flashing the OTA zip file you got from your operator if you have it. Again gold card should be in the device. But is is likely that it may also work without since CustID is same. Advantage: preserves branding
So do I still need a gold card even though my device is rooted?

Certainly.........
Point is you say you've tried several RUUs and they dont work..Hence we have to assume it's a branded phone. HTC even brands some phones with the brand HTC (Eg Indian HTCs). To unroot a branded HTC, you need a goldcard.
i had same problem, i was trying for days till i rememberd that i can downgrade hboot, install android 2.1 and ota update froyo. ( if your desire wasnt branded you dont need goldcard). problem was that i couldnt find stock froyo, only eclair
this thread helped me :

i hope it helps
Point is some people (including me in the past) dont realize that they have a branded phone. There may not be any visible branding. So better be safe than sorry, by creating a goldcard.. Once the device if bricked, you cant (in most cases) create a goldcard
Thank you all so much.

Hi Gurus,
Since the last two weeks , I have tried almost all the options to debrand the Htc Desire Orange UK version, but not success, Below was my cell stock information when I purchased it.
Htc Desire Black Edition (PVT1) not brown one
Froyo 2.2
Hboot = 0.93.0001
Radio = 5.10
CID=ORANG001
I wanted to debrand it to generic from the Orange then I rooted it with UnRevoked and S-Off through AlphaRev and executed the file "RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.exe" from shipped Roms.
After that I got the Radio V2 Fail, When I restarted the cell, there was no display, even the charging light was off.
I contacted a person that has RiffBox, he flashed it and changed the CID from ORANG001 to HTC__001.
My cell new configuration is as below :
Hboot=0.930001
Radio=4.06
CID=HTC__001
Right now I have only fastboot and hboot access with no ROM in cell phone .
After that I tried almost all the Roms from the shipped-roms's bravo secton, they gives 2 types of error upon executing :
1. partition update failed (error on Radio v2 pu fail)
2. signature verification failed.
I want to debrand my cell to generic one , so that I can get rid of Orange stuff.
I am stuck at that point, needed the expert guidance to pass through this situation.
Thanks
No Guru answered till yet !!!
Given that you are s-off and rooted why would you not just install one of the stock rooted ROMs from the second post in this thread?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=809328
I personally would not have changed the CID, can you install your stock RUU anymore?
Thanks 'welshbloke70' for reply.
Well, After having flashed with RiffBox my cell is no longer rooted or s-off.
Currently I have just fastboot and only hboot menu access. RECOVERY is not operational now.
When I turned on the cell, it directly comes to fastboot menu due to no
ROM in cell after flashing. So in this case I can only install from RUU or PB99IMG.zip, the xda link you gave have all the the ROMS but for rooted cell phones.
As now I have changed CID (HTC__001) which is the generic one, so I dont get any CID error upon installing generic RUU.
Any other suggestion would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Do you have a Gold Card??? Cause your problem sounds pretty bad. Since you aren't rooted and you don't have a recovery, it is pretty obvious that you can't install a custom ROM.
I guess you tried also the latest version of RUU which is 2.29.405.5 if you are from EUROPE.
From what I've read you can flash an branded RUU or another RUU on a branded phone only if you have a Gold Card. Now I don't know if this applies to you since you are no longer branded, but you can give it a shot if you haven't tried yet.
I think there is a tutorial on how to make a Gold Card even if you can't access the phone or see the screen. I'll look for it and post it here.
Hope this helps you.

Thanks 'UsManyDead' for taking interest in my case. The answers are as below :
1. Yes, I have gold card, for now its useless. Because as I know we need the gold card only if we are going to install a rom that is different from the current cell CID.
In my case I have already changed my CID from ORANG001 to HTC__001 and any generic RUU supports HTC__001 so there is no need of gold card in my case.
2. Any custom rom can not be installed due to fact that cell is no more rooted.
Only PB***.zip or Ruu can solve the problem. I have tried almost all the roms and ruu from shipped-roms. but they give 2 types of errors as I mentioned in my first post. I have also tried 2.29.405.5 many times but no success.
I know the options are becoming very few , but I hope that I will pass through this failure from you and xda community users.
Any other advice will be welcomed.
Thanks

Third thread (where I actually found your exact problem): ht tp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000385 . Someone explains some kind of "voodoo" to be done to repair the error you get, and there are positive results, and I think you can use the first 2 thread to get the PB99IMG.zip.
Give it a try and remember to read them in full to understand. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Can you still get in to fastboot?
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
Hi mate don't know if this can help you....i got usb bricked with my rooted and s-off desire. I flashed a an RUU thinking it would solve my issue but of course it just left me with a USB Brick unrooted! You can't write to that and no access with Adb. I got great help from Unrevoked page which fixed me by getting me back to root.
I summarised the process here:
Hope you might have success with your issue. If this does not help directly you might follow the link to the help page on UnRevoked.....

Thank all of you for taking interest in my problem.
At the end I have got success BUT with failure. Here is my story.
1. Erased and Flashed with RiffBox with CID=11111111 (super id)
2. Kept cell phone in refrigerator for only 5 minutes.
3. Installed the new ROM from PB99IMG.zip (PB99IMG_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.zip ) without any error.
4. Kept cell phone again in refrigerator for only 5 minutes.
5. Started the cell phone for the first time and executed setup and went till the Home screen fine.
6. Tried some games and flash intensive web sites, and ohhh the phone rebooted.
It rebooted again and again. Untill I pulled out the battery and put it again after 30 minutes, but was unable to reach home screen.
Again kept the cell phone in refrigerator and phone works for a short time before it starts reboot loop.
So the main problem is rebooting now.
I spent nearly 16 hours on net , reading forums/posts for solution but at the end found that there is no solution except the motherboard replacement.
I am in PK and here is no HTC service center. I bought it second hand so dont have any warranty card/info with me.
So its just like a piece of scrape for me.
Anyways again thank you all for the great help. May be this refrigerator solution could work for anyone.
Thanks,
Ali
Have you tried changing cid back to orange and flashing correct ruu?
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA App
No, I didn't try to change the CID to orange. And there is no orange related PB** or RUU on shipped roms.
I dont think Orange have done some customization in kernel or any other part.
I have seen threads running the generic version on orange brand phone. So it shouldn't be a issue, however bootloop problem is not related to either generic or orange brand rom , its related to motherboard.
Have you seen any post in which generic rom is initiating bootloop while the orange rom solved it ?
Thanks,
Ali
No Ali, I haven't. Seeing that you are in the dead end, I think that its worth trying everything from scratch. Don't know much about cid change, but could it be that cid is in a few places and now that you've changed it it sort of fights itself ? Will have a look into all this a bit later, I'm far from guru, but with a bit of luck should be able to find some info.

Hi tinky1,
Well, I have complete nandroid backup (boot, data, recovery and system images). I did it when I was rooted by unrevoked (clockworkmod).
Currently I have installed stock rom '2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_ release_159811', so how can I restore my earlier backup (i will again change the CID to orange, no issue) ?
Please remember i can not root now due to boot loop problem.
Any suggestion ?
Ali
So what do you actually have working? Bootloader, fastboot, recovery? Does phone bootloop when (if you can) you go into one of these?
Currently I have working fastboot and hboot. Recovery is not working , it stuck on HTC green logo.
Normal phone startup is also not functional, it reboots itself before it reaches 'Quietly Brilliant' logo.
I have managed to install Cyanogenmod 7 but the bootloop problem still exist. Analyzing the problem.

Hi guys,
This is my first thread here in XDA, so, forgive me by a possible mistake.
I recently bought a HOX, the seller said that is the international version.
I'm in 4.0.3, with software version 1.29.707.11 (already checked for updates, but phone says its up to date)
So, sometimes when i turn my wifi on, he doesn't connect in my network (already saved), i go to wifi settings, put to scan, and, aparently, the phone don't scan the networks and doesn't found my network too.
Obviously, im on the range of the network, and don't have that factory problem with bad wifi signal.
And, sometimes too, phone takes a lot of time to get carrier signal, so i turn on plane mode, then turn off, and finally get carrier signal.
My question is: is this normal? What can i try to fix it? (Thinked on a factory reset)
I don't tried anything yet.
If anyone could help, i'll appreciate and if the thread is on the wrong place, please move it
Just try flashing the RUU, which will delete everything and return it to stock.

Thanks for the help Pope!
I am VERY noob in HTC tools, can you say me what exactly is this "RUU", and where i can get it?
Its basically, a factory reset right? What is the difference from normal FR to this RUU tool?

The difference is that it will reflash the ROM from scratch, it's the first thing HTC do when you take your phone for repair. It's very safe (when flashed with decent remaining battery) and very thorough.
Check the Shipped ROM sticky in the development section.
I am searching about the Rom Update Utility, but i'm not finding a good tutorial to follow, explaining the whole process.
If anyone could help me in the process
Edit:
Thanks again Pope! I'll look in dev section
You just have to charge the phone, put the phone in fastboot mode (hold down the volume down key when switching on the phone, then navigate from there), plug phone into Windows PC and double click RUU.
You may want to do an "adb backup" (you'll have search for this) beforehand, flash RUU, test and then restore.

I'm not finding the correct RUU file for the One X, can you help me? Or just show me a place to search... (Some links here at job are blocked --') Basically finding the correct RUU file i'll do the rest without problem...
This "restore" you mean in the end, its the factory reset in the phone? Or another restore?
Don't need a backup, i got the phone 2 days ago hehehe
My HOX is totally clean.
No unlocked bootloader, no root.
This will not be a problem doing the flash with the stock RUU right?

No, that's perfect, you don't need anything other than stock, and it will remain stock.

Ben sorry for tons of questions hehe
I'm reading a tutorial, and on it said that i need my CID number, in order to download the correct RUU file for the correct region of my HOX. How can i know if this RUU you posted is the correct for my HOX?
I've tried to get my CID number (downloaded the fastboot flasher tool) but when i put the cid command he returns: CID > None lol
I Know that my HOX is from Shangai (has a SH in serial number) and got my MID number.
So, i just need to know which file i need to download, the right one of course hehehe
If i will need the CID to know, i'll ask for the files for fastboot commands (i don't found them)
If not, just confirm the link you posted ealier if its the correct RUU for my case.
PS.: This link posted is only for premium users, and i don't have a premium acc, can you provide in another mirror?
You can't flash the wrong RUU, the phone won't let you.
You don't need your CID as you are not unlocked, knowing that you are 1.29.707.x is enough. It's the right RUU.
I'm sure you don't need me to hold your hand whilst you use google to find that file somewhere else. The sticky dev thread I previously mentioned will likely have a ton of mirrors for the file.
So.. i'll look fot the file in other places.
Today, i've connected in my wifi network, and the phone says there's an update...
It's the same update announced days ago, but in my case with a different update number...
Phone has been upgraded to ICS 4.0.4 and Sense 4.1.
If the problems persist, i will flash the RUU anyway, but, because of this update, nothing changes right? The RUU file you posted still valid for my HOX?
Not any more, you've updated your hboot, so you'll need an updated RUU (you can't install on older hboot, packaged with an older RUU).
You're lucky:

Apparently, carrier signal is working fine too.. i'll test for more 3 days...
I have just been given an old Wildfire that is unrooted, s-on and network locked that has somehow managed to get itself into Qualcomm diagnostic mode. I am unable to get anywhere, adb - device offline. Is there anyway to force on USB debugging so that I am able to use a goldcard?

bottom line is nope. how is the device reacting? is it just black screening with vibrations?
totally of topic but 1000 posts XD
I'm a bit confused with this diagnostic mode?
If i remember correctly i was able to go into it with vol up + power but then after a battery pull it would reboot just fine........
Maybe as Lesicnik mentioned not so long back the volume button might be stuck or faulty hence pressing the power button will equal vol up+power and start diag mode.

qualcomm diagnostic mode happens when you f**k up the phone so bad that it doesnt know what else to do, and reverts to what i think is the backup firmware on the nand chip? not 100% sure. it usually results in the phone powering on but not showing anything on screen. but vibrates a few times depending on what the issue is. sometimes you can "blindboot" which is where you take a stock rom.zip from a ruu and place it on the sdcard and boot to bootloader. then by using time (ie waiting) and logic (when to try push volume up to update the rom+reboot) you can sometimes manage to restore the phone. as far as i am aware the guys over at the evo 3d forum are very advanced in how this mode actually functions. the htc sensation unbricking project, which helps people fix their phones after an attempt to s-on kills it was made with the help of the evo 3d guys knowledge. also i think jupuntobear s-off puts the phone into download mode before you do the "wire trick" to drop write security. so it is possible to fix this issue but it is quite a hard nut to crack.

Have already taken phone apart and checked all connections as my first thought was that something may have worked itself loose after being dropped or something.
Vol up + power and the phone buzzes/vibrates 3 times.
Managed to do a blind factory reset - vol down + power wait for a bit, then vol down etc, etc. After about 3-4 minutes I was able to push the soft buttons which light and vibrate. I am unable to do anymore than this due to usb debugging being off as I need to use adb to make a gold card and run a ruu. Thanks anyway.

Thanks, will check out Evo3D forum tomorrow, hopefully someone over there will be able to help.:fingers-crossed: Btw you need to have USB debugging enabled to run jupuntobear s-off.

do you know what network the phone was locked too? you could hunt for the offical ruu from that network with the 1.01.0002 hboot and try to blind boot that to restore the phone. if you can tell me the network its on i will help you hunt for the ruu 3 vibes is better than 5 as far i know. ive heard of people recovering from 3 vibes.
also, if you have access to another wildfire you can use that to make the goldcard and then use that on the damaged phone then it should run any ruu that has an equal or higher hboot ^^

The phone is locked to Vodafone UK. I've just spoken to my sister whose phone it was (she's not the most technically clued up of people) and she can't remember whether she upgraded to froyo or not. She's now got a GS2 and hasn't even done the official OTA update to ICS (and Touchwizzed Jellybean is on the horizon). So I'm betting its still on Eclair, but I can't be 100% sure. I've looked on the Vodafone UK site and the latest Wildfire software version is '2.24.161.2', which they are only giving out through an OTA. I'm not having much luck googling it either.
I don't have any access to another Wildfire, so the only thing I can think of is if I can find someone else who would be so kind as to make and upload a goldcard for me :fingers-crossed: (highly unlikely), otherwise I think the phone may be taking a trip to environphone (they give £20 for a working wildfire). I'll spend another couple of hours on it, seeing what I can come up with, but it's looking bleak at the moment .

ok i have found a vodaphone rom that is from denmark, or germany it may be enough to do it. also, the goldcard is specific to the sdcard that is used to make it buddy :/ but! although i may not have a wildfire i do have the xtc clip so i can make a goldcard for the wildfire. so if you were willing to post a small micro-sdcard to me i could make it for you i am currently uploading the rom to mediafire now. will edit this with a link asap
EDIT: ok here is the rom.zip i was talking about, rename it to pc49img.zip and try do a cold boot up to fix it.
