Custom PowerMat Car Holder/Charger - Galaxy S II Accessories

Just finished my PowerMat car charger project. It's a combination of several different parts put together. I used a Mountek mount to secure it, modified it to connect to an adjustable ProClip mount, then modified a Powermat 1X base to the ProClip mount. I powered this using a laptop car charger. I also removed the Powermat speaker because the turn-on chime was getting annoying every time I started the car.
For my phone, I'm using the parts from a Droid X Powermat cover and an Otterbox Commuter Case. As of right now, my only camera is my phone so I can't take pictures of it.

so with that laptop car charger you dont need a power inverter to run the powermat?

That is correct, the laptop DC power supply outputs 18-19 VDC.

Oh sorry, missed that part of the original post

What are your thoughts on disassembling the dc charger and hard wiring to the car?

Instead of disassembling it, I was going to purchase a female DC receptacle and hard wire that. After, just tuck it away out of view.

Cup holder car mount?

Hey guys,
basically what I would love to find is something to place into my car cupholder that would hold my phone while allowing both the usb power / and 3.5mm audio jack to be plugged in. I don't need a mount as such, anyway to hold it whilst allowing the cables to be plugged in would suffice.
I love to using the audio jack straight into the stereo, it works wonderfully as a makeshift handsfree. Please let me know of any ideas or possible modifications I could make to existing products to make this work. T
Thanks!!!
Would this work? It says you can connect cords through the base.
$6.95
It doesn't show as much of the screen as I would like but it does look like a very good option....I'd give a shot, one problem is no postage to Thailand.
Thanks though

Just search for cell-cup, it's sold everywhere... Amazon has a 2-pack of them for like $11.

I thought about that one too, but he said he didn't want a mount.

Well a mount might work, if it was cheaper. This one is for iPhone so I'd be worried about it fitting. It's not a universal type mount is it?

Car Dock = Desktop Dock

Has anyone thought of using the official car dock as a desktop dock? All you would need to do is plug the usb cable coming out of the dock into a computer or wall charger instead of a car charger and disable Car Mode (apk)!!
It is so elegant and beautiful. I would love to do this.

I've thought about that but I couldn't seem to find a picture that showed if it actually had a connector in it or just a hole for the usb cable to plug into the phone?

Yeah I actually just checked out that exact video... So it's kind of both... I'm pretty sure I'm getting it now. Time will tell what that much sliding along the plastic will do to the phone. I'm hoping nothing...
I've posted this one in a car mount thread, and it can also be used as a desk mount:
http://www.arkon.com/mobile-grip/mobile-grip-dashboard-mount-mg178.html
I am using it as a dock on my desk. Beware though; the car cable wont sent data trough so only charging is possible.
Dont ask why. They changed some wires on the cable for some reason.
^ damn that sucks.. i already ordered my second d160 to use as a desktop dock. i was hoping the usb cable would double as a data cable for the PC.

It does indeed. It is beautiful to use as a dock. Maybe you could fabric something yourself. You can also just flip it so that the micro-usb is on top and you can put a normal cable in there.
Ive thought of using the official htc car dock on for home use cause the phone easily slides in but dont really want to be paying £40+ for it .
Best place to get the OEM mount?
Yeah going to use my car dock on my desk.. My desk is glass, so perfect :good:

About 10$ cheep qi charger http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Blac...ogle-Nexus-4-Nexus-7-2G-Nokia/1416517939.html
I bought it about 5$ from Korea market.
You might make your own mount if you want, or use other type mount.
Insert some tool like lillte (-) driver or something into usb terminal, and widen the hole a little and open the charger case. It's easy.
Simple inner 3 parts: usb + coil + circuit board
Unscrew and tear apart those. In my charger, coil was attched by double-glued sponge.
Carefully bend cable from coil and circuit board and locate those above mount.
I searched and found old broken Nexus One cover. Its for cover of coil.
Using scissors, I cut it roughly ans sand-paper the edges.
Using double glued tape and super glue and the sponge from original qi charger, I assembled those. That's it.
No problem in charging and mounting the phone.
To be frank, its not clean and nice, but I think its better than original plate-typed qi charger.
Attached picture is from my magnetic qi charger mount. I think it's VERY good, although it's only my thoughts.
After some road(bumper) test, I'd like to post about it.
Thanks.
Damage your $300 phone because you tried to save $10 on a charging pad.

I think cheep charger has low charing capacity (it's true) and that's it. Cheep wall charger may effect strong currency and ruin the phone( although phone will protect that). But how does cheep wireless charger damage the phone? Can you explain that?

Could Galaxy S3 use Qi wireless charger?

Anybody use it, please give some suggestion.

I use it on my S3. The charging speed is not that fast compared to USB, which I think is well-known. The back cover gets a bit warm also, and I have an Otterbox Commuter case as well, which gets a little bit warm also. It charges just fine through the case.
This is the one that I ordered, as it came with the charging pad and receiver for the phone.
http://www.fasttech.com/product/1146700-qi-inductive-wireless-charging-upgrade-kit-for-sam
Hope this helps!
I have one of the first gen receiver pads and it charges faster than USB but slower than AC.
check ebay. use search terms like "i9300 qi reciever"
just get the reciever pad.
the best charger pad imo is the nokia ones. they're regularly on sale from 20 -25 bucks for the most part. just do some searching online.

Any Wireless charging system or standard that has the two contacts to fit the contacts that are in the Battery compartment and fits will work....A wireless Standard isn't built into the phones, just the Transmitter and Receiver Coils....
QI wireless charging is nice... However I notice the connector from the QI receiver will interfere with the smart cover slot anyone?
look what i found^^

I
notice there is 2 connection on the smart cover.. the QI receiver use same slot...
You can find a quality charger kit on ebay... just to be safe... look for "Top Rated Seller" and someone with high feedback score to be safe..
oh, and because i'm such a sweetheart:

18 bucks for a really decent charging pad. I have 2. one for my bed side and one on my desk.
This one works great with mine and I have the lifeproof case on it.

Of course you can not break yusb port, only one drawback - the phone longer charged

Can I mount the phone to a magnetic car mount with no magnet?

I've read the S8 versions are pretty magnetic and doesn't need to stick an extra magnet on the back. Is this true for the S9/+?
most likely. my s8 sticks without a metal plate on the phone. im pretty sure its the wireless charging coil in the phone that is magnetic and allows the car mount to work without a case or metal plate added. since the s9 will have wireless charging it should be the same way.

I have one of the cheap ball type ones, this type is definitely not strong enough and my S9 glides right off (with or without slim case). Maybe a more expensive one with better magnets would hold it.

I have a S9 case, which has metal plates embedded so that I don't need to stick anything on the phone back and use magnetic car mount, also it's wireless charging friendly.

Yes https://www.ipitaka.com/collections...m_source=XDA&utm_medium=lily&utm_term=S9 case, to be honest, it's my favorite case so far.
Seconded on the ipitaka case - I just got it and Love it, before I had a SUPCASE ($15 off amazon) with the metal ring in between the phone and the case and it bulged the case out a bit. The ipitaka case has a very premium feel, I like it a lot better, and it sticks to my wireless charger MUCH better
