[CM 7.1-11] [ALSO CM 7.2-RC0] wifi problems with peap-mschapv2 - Defy General

Hi,
it's a lot of time that I'm lurking the forum, especially the cm7 and ICS cm9 thread. Thank you developers!
I was using cm7 rc 1.5 and everything was just fine. Finally I decided to try the latest stable. Wipe cache and installed. Restart (and pull out the battery ).
Everything it's working fine, but the wireless, that was working on the previous version. Here at the university I have to use peap/mschapv2.
I try to deleted the /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf but nothing change. Actually after putting the information it looks like as before (but the priority):
Code:
ctrl_interface=tiwlan0
update_config=1
device_name=Motorola phone
manufacturer=Motorola
model_name=TI1271
model_number=1271
serial_number=012345
device_type=1-0050F204-1
os_version=80000000
network={
ssid="Wi-Fi_UniNa"
key_mgmt=WPA-EAP IEEE8021X
eap=PEAP
identity="[email protected]"
password="password"
phase2="auth=MSCHAPV2"
priority=1
}
The result is that under the settings --> wireless it just says "connecting" but it does not connect at all.
Catlog reports a lot of
Code:
wifi doCommand: ret=-1
I googled it, but I didn't find anything interesting.
Don't know if it works with other kind of connections. I will try as soon as possible and post the results.
Going back to rc 1.5 with a nandroid backup works good.
Here a full catlog (cannot put directly the link, new user)
pastebin.com/Hv1KWWVK
Do you have any kind of suggestion?
Thank you,
Peppe

So, the wifi works on a wpa-psk. Again, in the catlog there are lots of
Code:
wifi doCommand: ret=-1
so I guess this is not the problem.
Thanks,
Peppe

So it seems to be solved.
Yesterday, I first tried to copy the wpa_supplicant binaries from the rc 1.5, but nothing changed.
Then, I also copied the tiwlan_drv.ko (i.e. the driver of the wlan) and its firmware from Rc 1.5 and WORKED.
So to me it seems a bug of the wlan driver, though I didn't try to copy only the driver without copying the wpa_supplicant binaries.
I'd like to point out this to developers, but I don't know if they read this board (I cannot post on the dev board). What do you suggest?
Or should I use the github commits system?
Thank you,
Peppe

Could you maybe post a Link to the files from RC1.5 that you mentioned? Thanks

Unfortunately it's in german, but maybe you can have a look at it with Google Tranlsate.
There is a zip archive, that contains different versions of wpa_supplicant. I didn't test that yet, but I think it could be worth trying which one works:

To me, it does not seem a problem of wpa_supplicant. Or at least, the driver has something to do with peap/mschapv2, since it was working with rc1.5 and not with the stable.
Though we have eduroam in our university, it never worked (with laptop too). I've never investigated really, since I don't use it.

I gave my Defy to my gf recently so I had extra motivation to fix those little annoyances. I found out that if you switch WPA settings from AES (or auto) to TKIP it doesn't disconnect like that anymore.

Hi,
this is just to say that the problem is still in CM 7.2 RC-0. This time I *just* copied the driver and the firmware from CM7 RC 1.5 and now it works.
Can someone test the peap-mschapv2?
If the bug is real, and to me it seems, can someone post this in the dev section / cm7 dev thread? I cannot (low number of posts).
Bye,
Peppe

Hello everyone, I just tried this, and non of them work, the wifi just turns its self off after about 15 seconds with these wpa_supplicant-s. When I put the original back, it works just the way it always has.
My problem is that eduroam and the university wireless which uses almost the same protocols as eduraom just don't work. Its constantly connecting and disconnecting.
The wpa_supplicant.conf has nothing to do with this because i tried copying it form a friends phone which also has android on it (can't remember which phone it was), the bottom line is: it works for him, and not for Defy users.
Could someone please upload the rc 1.5 wpa_supplicant and tiwlan_drv.ko, because the link for rc1.5 is dead.
Also could you mention where to place tiwlan_drv.ko

Hi gmcgmc,
I can confirm the PEAP/MSCHAPv2 issues.
Beingi able to use my universities EDUROAM-network stopped when I upgraded from stock firmware to CM7. With CM9 it doesn't work, too.
I checked the different wpa_supplicants available via the link DD23 posted, with no success. With one supplicant it didn't even try to connect, 'cause it didn't store the entered settings. With some of the other supplicants it began to connect, but got an error during authentification. Maybe next week I'll be able to post a log.
I will give the driver/firmware thing a try.
Regards
kadolf

Me too having a wifi issues with CM7.2 RC2, it was working with my CM7.1 RC1.5 but i installed CM9 after that and it stopped working...Can someone help me fixing this please.

Just to make a resume.
Stock rom and CM 7.1 RC 1.5 work good with mschapv2 (at least for me ) while CM 7.1 stable and CM7.2 RC* don't work.
To my experience wpa_supplicant has nothing to do with this, as copying the driver from RC 1.5 works.
The last time I copied the following files (my guessing is that actually just the first file is needed. But anyway I copied all of them)
tiwlan_drv.ko --> /system/lib/modules/
fw_tiwlan_ap.bin --> /system/etc/wifi
fw_tiwlan_ap_rfmd.bin --> /system/etc/wifi
The right procedure (for me) was:
Turn off wifi
Delete (or rename to keep your passwords) /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf (rename e.g. to wpa_supplicant.conf.bak)
Rename the old files you are going to write
Copy the files (I used adb, you can use whatever you like)
reboot
Now it should work. If you want use the old wpa_supplicant.conf just delete the new one and revert the ".bak" while the wifi is off.
By the way, the last trick works always when the wifi is stuck (i.e it doesn't see any network):
turn off the wifi
rename the wpa_supplicant.conf
turn on wifi and check that it sees networks
turn off wifi
revert wpa_supplicant.conf
turn on wifi --> finished
No need to reboot!
I've two questions:
1. Can someone test if it is needed just the first file? If so, we may (actually I don't know how...) create a flashable zip
2. Can someone post this on dev thread?
Bye,
Peppe
PS: I've uploaded the files.

Hi gmcgmc,
thanks for the files.
Unfortunately I can't test them until next monday.
If I have some results (may they be good or bad ones) I'll post it.
Greetings,
Kadolf

Ok.
I've made a bur report through cm bug tracker
http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/issues/detail?id=5313
So I confirm the bug/issue under CM 7.2 RC3. Copying *just* tiwlan_drv.ko works.
Bye,
Peppe

wpa2 issue
solved

I tried it with just copying tiwlan_drv.ko - behavior like before.
Then I copied the two other files, too - doesn't work for me and it stopped working with open networks.
I'll try to restore the original WPA-Supplicant, because I've overwriten it a half year ago (while trying to solve the problem) and lost my backup.

How did you copied it? I tried with RootExplorer and it didn't work. I had to use adb (after remouning system in rw). Something like that
Code:
./adb push "tiwlan_drv.ko" /system/lib/modules/
And yes, restore the original wpa_supplicant.
Bye,
Peppe

The issue is still present in CM 7.2 Stable.

[Q] kernel(s) with wifi N support?

at firts i am running cm7.2_rc_buzz_kang(03-14-2012),with original radio(never had to flash another,just few times sometimes reflashed to make gps work),custom mtd
i would like to ask devs for this question, but i cant, so i try at least here...
some time ago our router at home has been changed and so has wlan...and that started to cause me problems,because i cant set router up for my phone to provide "g" wifi which works flawlesly..(actually,discovering,that everything is caused by "n" wifi provided by router was very funny,because it was the last thing i thought i could be ) however..after some googling and much xda reading i found app called Wifi fixer,which in most cases fixes my problem,but it doesnt work in 100% cases,and its not the "coolest" solution
few days ago i found Sympnotics kernel,and flashed it,one of reasons was its declared "n" wifi fix,which didnt work...i know,its beta,im not complaining,just saying what i found...btw thats the only thing,that is not good FOR ME on that kernel
so i thought to look for another...
i found infinityplay,which didnt work in "my" way,neither did "official" arco68s,neither last hcdr.kernel_v4.2...
the only one i found working is HCDR.Kernel_v4..
my next idea was (i am noob,so sorry... ) to copy bcm4329.ko (which should be wifi module of kernel) from HCDR.Kernel_v4 to SympKernV4.1..that (surprisingly ) didnt work...at least i tried...
so there is my question...(in this moment,youre the only person who i know is developing kernel,most for Sympnotic) would it be possible to have your kernel with hcdr.kernel_v4 wifi module??
if i have known to do this on my own,i wouldnt bother to ask here, but i have no idea how to build my own kernel,even how to take one,change wifi module and again make flashable zip...
sorry for my english,its not my native language
thx you all here
edit:i have the same problem with cm9,bulit does not matter...btw with hcdr.jacobs v4 wifi does not work...

[Q] Andromadus Beta4 : no WiFi

Hi all,
Flashed Andromadus Audacity beta4 to test latest ICS version for DZ.
I have no WiFi at all, even with Mobile Data disabled.
Could someone please tell me the right permissions for /data/misc/wifi files ?
I have actually these :
Code:
-rw-rw---- system wifi 21 2012-06-05 12:28 entropy.bin
-rw------- system system 4 2012-06-06 14:07 ipconfig.txt
drwxrwx--- wifi wifi 2012-06-06 14:16 sockets
-rw------- system system 41 2012-06-05 20:13 softap.conf
-rw-rw---- system wifi 62 2012-06-06 14:07 wpa_supplicant.conf
Thanks in advance for your time.
PS : Can't actually post in DEV forum as I don't have posted enough messages ...
mine: dl.dropbox.com/u/3063354/Screenshot_2012-06-06-14-46-59.png
wifi works fine.
Thanks for your answer.
In fact it isn't really for permissions I was asking for but for ownership.
So if you could either:
launch Terminal and type :
su
ls -l /data/misc/wifi
or via ADB (from PC):
adb shell
su
ls -l /data/misc/wifi
You'll get the files ownership.
Thanks again for your time.
wifi Not working
electronico_nc,
Have you managed to make wifi work on your device?
I think I'm having the same problem.
Does
"adb shell
su
ls -l /data/misc/wifi"
command helps to cope with the problem?
Hi NoorBall,
No it doesn't help, I have asked friends with ICS (but not G2/Desirez Z/Vision phones) to send me the dir ownership, it was the same as mine.
From memory (sorry haven't written lines), there was a problem with ipconfig.txt file from logcat.
Fed-up with trying to have WIFI working with ICS on my Desire-Z, I've gone back to my cm7-nightly-263 backup with which everything is working OK. (for me)
I'm pretty impressed by the fact that people with HTC Vision (G2/Desire Z) who have tried ICS don't have any problem with WIFI and I (and it seems you too) do ...
Thanks for reply, friend with the same problem!
Hi,
Yes, it's surprising that, you and me are only users having problem with wifi. Actually my wifi is working - I can turn on wifi, can create personal hotspots, but my problem is I cannot see any available wifi networks, when actually there are some working ones, which my laptop is using.
But anyway I think I'll stay with this rom, because I liked ICS (Thanks for developers) and have unlimited plan now, and will waiting for developers team to fix it in next betas.
Solved the problem
Found one solution of the problem, not the best one, but anyway is better than nothing, at least I have fully working wifi.
I noticed that this problem remains in every rom with ICS (Sensewich, Virtuous, Audacity).
The app called Wifix can solve problem with wifi in ICS. Pretty simple in use app, just root is needed. Here is the link in xda.
Hi,
I remember to have installed it, but I still was getting no Wifi.
I'm happy for you if it has done the trick !

How to get 5GHz Wi-Fi on AOSP ROMs working.

Hello everyone,
I didn't see a thread for this and I am just sick and tiered of not being able to post in dev threads, I figured I would attempt to make something useful for newer users of using AOSP ROMs.
I noticed that when using AOSP ROMs, the 5GHz band won't work, I can see the network but can not connect to it, and in some ROMs I can get it to take the Key but then says something like disabled and still doesn't work. Crazy thing is this is something that is not unique to this Device (the i317), I had a i777 (Galaxy S2) before that and it did the same exact thing. What is even more crazy is the fix is exactly the same for both phones.
While making this post I am going through a wip and re-install of my ROM (PAC-Man in this case, but does it with all other AOSP ROMS)
Some information befor I start, 5GHz is important to me as I use it at home, the 2.4GHz range in my area is quite crowded and I am the only 5GHz network in the area so it works better for me.
Anyways here we go;
Step 1, Install your ROM like normal, once you're signed in to your Google Account download Root Explorer (or something of equivalence) Once that is done proceed to step 2.
(NOTE: If you already have your ROM installed you can skip Step 1)
Step 2, In Root Explorer go to System --> etc --> wifi, once here you're going to see various files. Were looking for "nvram_net.txt" and "nvram_net.txt-murata".
These are the two files were going to modify.
Step 3, Hold your finger on "nvram_net.txt" until the popup window for Options comes up, hit Open With and then select Text Editor. From here you're going to look for a line of code thats "ccode=GB" this is needing to be changed to "ccode=US". Once that has been changed then hit the back button and hit Yes on the save box. This will automatically make a backup of the original file.
Step 4, Were going to do the same thing to the "nvram_net.txt_murata" so open it with the Text Editor and look for the same line of code "ccode=GB" and change it to "ccode=US", save the file.
Step 5, Reboot your phone and once back up go into settings and you are now able to use your 5GHz network.
I hope this helps someone and I hope that one day we won't have to keep changing these settings to get 5GHz working on AOSP ROMs, have fun Everyone!!!!
PS. If you all want screenshots I can do them but bare in mind I would have to wipe my phone again and take them during the process. The instructions should be clear and easy to follow without them.
Excellent....
Many thanks....this will help several people out I'm sure.
Thank you...g

Thank You!!
I need to add something to it, if you ever update your ROM you need to do it again just start from step two.
Thanks for the post. I'm sure those who need 5ghz support appriciate it.
I just saw this post and checked. The latest CM10.1 for today (20130701 build) has the correct US settings. Not sure about other AOSP. However you should mention it to the devs of each one you find it in so they can fix it.
Holy ****balls. I just have to say that.
I'm using Galaxy S3 i9300, been running Slimbean 4.2.2 build 8 flawlessly when I came across that situation where I can't connect to 5G wifi. since then I tried searching for a fix but failed. So i opted to cm13, with utter disappointment with its lag and bugs. And still, hoping for a miracle, i flashed my old recovery back, trying to give it one more chance. Lo and behold, you've given me the fix that I've been searching for all these while. But instead of just that two files, I've changed all nvram_net files ccode with US instead GB. Reboot. And now I'm replying this on my workplace 5ghz wifi. Thanks dude. Very much thanks.

Android 4.4.2 Omnirom

I read about an omnirom available for our captivate glides running 4.4.2
Anyone tried running this yet? How stable is it?
I found the link here: http://true-android.blogspot.ca/2014/03/update-samsung-captivate-glide-sgh-i927.html
I also dont know, for any rom that has separate gapps, when would you flash those? After or before the new rom? at the same time? Like, if after a ROM flash it automatically reboots, it will boot up with no gapps and likely not run - correct?
Was just curious about how buggy it is. Even if down the road when things are smoother, im excited to see if i can get this one running!

you can find more information here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2541182
Gapps is included. You must install rom zip first, because it formats system partition.
Official gapps doesnt compatible with our phone, I think its better not installing.
hmm..

I am using omni ROM . . somehow I find it less buggy than cm 11
Nevertheless I would wanna give my thanks and even though I am pointing out bugs . . I really do appreciate his work .. A lot
Omnirom is very very stable has all if not most of the theming features except for trebuchet launcher
//It is a bit more battery consuming but I like it cause I am able to run my processor at 1.4ghz which is sweeeet!!!
//It has issues with OK Google functionality the audio is lagged and irritating
//The Google experience launcher is not built for it
//It has issues with Google maps 7 but there is a fix to have 6th version to back you up when needed
//it has issues with Skype and the fix is work in progress I guess..
//GPs is a bit slow but works
//WiFi direct crashes for me
Once in a blue moon the phone might rebot itself cause of a crash..
Though considering WiFi tethering , 3g switching, link2sd ,memory swapping
Ksm everything is working really try it . . its an amazing experience from an amazing phone
Can someone tell me the difference between wifi direct, wifi sharing, and wifi sharing manager??
Wifi itself is working in 4.4.2 right?
Also, were your keyboard backlights working automatically or did you ened qwerty led?
is qwerty led something that needs to be running all the time. or "ongoing" in the top drawer?
Wi-fi direct is a type of communication between two devices, similar to Bluetooth, so you can send files. I never used this, even when transfering big files from one phone to another, it's better to use an USB OTG cable - the connection speed is lightning fast!
Don't know what you mean about wi-fi sharing. Maybe wi-fi tethering (hotspot) - it's when you share your phone 2G/3G internet connection via wi-fi. This thing is working fine. Wi-fi itself is working, of course.
As for keyboard light: when tested OmniROM, I used liblight solution, but the qwertyled using is simple too: just launch it and you're done. While the service is running, keyboard light will work.
Now I'm on CM 11, and I have 11 days of uptime already, I recommend this ROM (but that's just my taste). In CM 11 keyboard backlights are working from the box, no need for qwertyled.
Also, I looked at the link you posted, to the true-android blog. Please, don't use the guide one can found there, it's awful. You can't install 4.4.2 ROM with recommended 2.6.3.0 TWRP, the correct one is 2.6.3.1 from bubor here, and you don't need any gapps beside included in the ROM.
Better use this guide from stormdude124: [UPDATED][2014][How-to]Everything you need to know and do to your Captivate Glide, it's updated, it's verified and there's no ads!

Can you use a cyanogen mod rom with clockworkmod recovery installed? i remember trying cyanogenmod with my phone and couldnt get it to work.
Just flash TWRP 2.6.3.1 from link above, it's superior to clockworkmod recovery (CWM) in all ways: touch interface, working backups with compression, charging support and it allows to install KitKat roms. With CWM you can install ROMs up to android 4.3, so, you still can install CM 10.1.3 or CM 10.2 with CWM, but not CM 11.

Hey yeah the difference btw wifi direct and sharing is that in wifi direct you connect two devices directly to transfer files...
in wifi sharing you need to host a web adress to share your files
as a result in wifi sharing you host a list of your stuff on a web adress(local) which gets downloaded by other devices on your wifi connection
and a wifi sharing manager can either do this (host ur files using an ip) or my personal favorite is astro which can acess my pc's sharing folder over wifi which is preety awesome>..unlimited storage
also note that in a wifi sharing manager you cannot recieve files easily . . maybe airdroid but it can only run on a pc
wifi sharing apps are airdroid and other file managers like root browser
wifi direct requires specific drivers and libs... i guess.. hence not all devices can do it ..
anyway you should go for cm 11 or omni both are incredibly stable with an occasional hiccup.. which is occasional heh
also would suggest that if you do proceed to install please follow from the developer sources on xda rather than some blog etc

[Q] Common problems of cm9, cm10 and cm11 already known?...

Hello,
I detected the following systematic problems of cm9..11
1.) Skype cannot be started at all. It does not even react on a click of its icon. And no error message appears.
2.) the akku load status is shown incorrect during load process. E.g. after 4 hours load it shows 37% instead of true 100% (which is shown after reboot).
3.) The wonderful app 'lgCamera' runs very slow and jerky. This was fine in Android 2.x versions.
4.) the FM radio app for the WFS radio tuner (no internet radio!). How can I find it (and flash it into the system folder as a system app)?
I suppose that everybody can confirm my problems!?...
Are those already known by the development team? Cause I wonder that they are not fixed in ALL CyanogenMod versions yet!
Will there be a chance to expect their fix soon?...
5.) Furtheron I have big compatibility problems when flashing cm9..cm11 ROMs and others. Error message: "cannot load volume /misc. Can't partition non-vfat: /storage (vfat)". For nearly each ROM I have to change the recovery. Currently I change between the following recoverys (one of them allways works):
twrp-2.2.2.0, twrp-2.7.1.0, Phil-Z 6.43.7, cwm-5.0.2.8, cwm-6.0.5.3. Nobody else having that problem?...
Is there any recovery version that can read all 'formats' of zip files?...
Will there be compatibiliy at least at the backup files between all of them?...
Thank you VERY much for a quick help!
1.) not compatible anymore, say Thanks to Skype
2.) This is probably problem with battery not reading voltage correct anymore on charger (happens) for me on all roms even stock. (After 100000 of flashes and almost 3years old down sucked battery
3) ics and up isn't made for this phone, slow downs and other incompatibility can happen.
4) There is a solution called spiritfm(free) Google it, you will find the xda thread.
5) twrp 2.2.2.0 and cwm 5 is working on all ROMs beside newer kk builds (needs recovery compiled with TLS support, newest ones available)
Greetings Kevin
Hallo Kevin,
I am so glad that you answer! Thank you very much!!
to 1.) Yes, I realised meanwhile that Skype 4 ist still running fine. So the reason why the new Skype 5 version does not work on Wildfire S (or even on all CM versions of all devices??) you don't know!?...
to 2.) So this is a general Andrid 4.x problem of Wildfire S device only?... (cause e.g. on Galaxy S4 stock (of my girl-friend) it works fine!...
to 4.) Thank you. I installed this free version '0918fr.apk' but I get the error message (su rights confirmed): "Error: No FM accessible. SU: 0 Fm:BC2 SU:0 Bt:3 Ht:0 Mo:BCU". It does not seem to be compatible although I have read everywhere that it should work. Is this maybe antoo old version? Or what can be the reason?...
to 5.) So I used newer version 'cwm-6.0.5.3' and 'twrp-2.7.1.0', as I mentioned, but then these versions do not support older version than KK. E.g. 'CronMod-INT2EXT+_signed.zip'. This is the problem. Any solution?...
Is TLS ment as 'Thread-local storage'?...
Another short request:
a) Video recording with cm11 on Wildfire S works now without any patch. But if I record a video longer than about 5 seconds and I want to watch it directly after having stopped recording (timeframe about 7 seconds) then the camera app crashes. Can you confirm that on Wildfire S? What can be the reason?...
If Olivier's camera patch will help here as well I have not tested yet...
b) Management of Launcher and App screen is somehow circumstancial or not even possible. This is why the option 'Homescreen' is missing in 'Personalization' ('cm-11-20140816-Nightly') although the related screenshots of cm11 in XDA show this option!! E.g. App icons cannot be sorted alphabetically or cannot be manually moved within the screen. Or the home panel is the most left one instead of the middle one. Etc.
Any reason why the option 'Homescreen' was deleted (in XDA cm11 screenshots for Wildfire S still show it!! S. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735775 )?...
c) CM11 OTA update suggests me 'cm-11.0.0-RC9' as the first in the list. Is this really more actual than the installed 'cm-11-20140816-Nightly' (version 11.0-20140816) ?...
d) In this version the Email system app is missing. Why?
Any zip to flash it anywhere? Or do I have to use one of the market?...
e) No warm reboot option available anymore in cm versions?...
Thanks for your help again, Kevin!
Many greetings, Falk
to 5.) I could solve that problem meanwhile by myself. I downloaded a modified version of cwm 6.0.5.3 here:
http://click.xda-developers.com/api...5.0] - Post #52 - XDA Forum&txt=the new build
But I still do not know what was modified! You?...
6.) you forgot the ever present mobile data bug at least for cm9 and cm10. Which no1 evens bothers to mention

Because it does not exist? I never faced any bug like that.

oh, its super present .
It was a "common" problem in cm9, cm10 based roms, at least judging from the various threads dating back to 2013. And as I discovered yesterday its also present in CM11 RC9 for me.
Occurence of the bug is very random and seems to be bound to certain providers which makes it hard to debug/fix i guess.
Sadly, from what I've read "deal with it and toggle airplane mode when you need mobile data" or "install cm7" are the ways to handle this bug.
cheers
