My first tablet. Have always loved the Tab so I decided to splurge. I've been browsing this section and have some ideas of what I MAY like, but I am a sucker for peoples suggestions...
Is a case even needed? I've been debating this... if it is, is the Pyro Skins considered the best? I did not see many photos of the cases on the site. Considering this VIPERTEK one also since it is the highest rated on Amazon (LINK)
I hate screen protectors... I believe the tab has gorilla glass.. assuming this is not needed?
I should be getting the tab next week.... best method of connecting to the TV for watching hulu/youtube? I was surprised there was no HDMI....
hate if you want... I have/will continue reading threads. To those who offer good suggestions, thank you. Things change... there are always new/better products.
EDIT.... being my first tablet, if there are any must have apps, I'd appreciate that too.
Get a good case, and a nice SGP screen protector, cheap insurance.
Ended up ordering the pyro - black carbon fiber. Really wanted the red, but they were out. The SP in my opinion is not needed, I would think... Gorilla glass.

My tab is taken to the task by my 6 year old and myself. No issues whatsoever with the glass. Looks like new.
You want to get a usb adapter, then you can plug in your phone to your tab and cameras, flash drives and stuff like that, I go one for about ₤2.70, like $4.00.

Nobody tells jokes in your houses? Jeebus.
Nice choice for cover - I've got the same one (I'm not sporting a SP either)
Aside from the cover, like beta546 mentioned, I have the OTG USB adapter ($7 on ebay).
Finally, if you're not running or planning on running a Pershoot Kernel based ROM, then you should get/make the 'Any USB Charger' adapter so you don't always have to keep the Samsung charger around for when you need it.
App wise I'd recommend the following:
XDA Developers Forum App (haha, no-brainer there)
ColorNote
MX Video Player
Skitch
RealCalc
Skype
Ultrachron Lite
Password Safe Lite
ES File Explorer
Advanced Task Killer
LED Light (widget)
Oh, and if you do custom ROM your tab (highly recommended!) Then I suggest you get a ROM with Polaris Office in it ... or just find the apk on the forums.
I would also recommend some widgets like
Hd widgets
App Stack
Circle launcher
Android taskbar
You may know some of those but I think they make my tab look great
Oooooooo and thumb keyboard, it is brilliant for typing :-D
^ awesome. Have been wondering about that one. I picked that up when it was free on Amazon... have not installed it yet (waiting on a tablet). I am a huge Swype fanboy... will try and break my ways. THanks for all of the suggestions man.
apps
BS player or Mizuu player is awesome for videos
Titanium backup and titanium media sync (if rooted)
Dropbox or sugar sync
Dolphin browser
I second the thumb keyboard

in the same situation with s15274n

was wondering where is a good place to look into to start doing custom ROM to my tablet and my nexus s?
do they really offer something great for the hours I will be spending on reading them?
^ rooting and flashing the Tab is crazy easy. Check the dev section for the guide on rooting (it is not a sticky thread for some reason).

well i'm aware of these deals...
but the link i gave had a pouch especially made for iphone and the keyboard together.. so its easier to operate on the go... and have the option to take it out whenever u need to...
so i guess my question now is.. is there a pouch for 4" smartphones with an additional pouch for any of these bluetooth kekyboards?
I've been trying to get an Apple BT keyboard to work with the Vibrant, but no go yet. It was working with a G1. I'll get back on that project next week.
I bought one becasue i have multiple uses for a device like this
It does not work as is...maybe a software fix needed
oh you bought which?
Mini Bluetooth Keyboard??
what u mean it doesn't work as is?
wouldn't it be better if there was a pouch to keep both of them ...
i'm looking for a pouch with two slots...u should too.. it'll make it alot easier to handle keyboard on the go!!

I'm looking for one for my HTC Touch Cruise (P3650). I know that there was a pouch for the 'Freedom Slim Bluetooth Keyboard' that's discontinued now (See attachment 3)

Samsung Vibrant Does NOT Support HID
Hey everyone,
I've been looking for Bluetooth controllers and Keyboards for the Samsung Vibrant (T-Mobile). According to my research the ITON Mini Bluetooth Keyboard uses a Bluetooth driver called HID to communicate with other devices.
The Samsung Vibrant does NOT support HID. This means the ITON Mini Keyboard will NOT work with the Vibrant.
However.... there may be a work around. BlueInput (Google it) is a HID Driver sold on the Android market for $10.00. So in theory... ITON Mini Keyboard + BlueInput Driver + Vibrant = Working Solution.
However, I've read many post about the BlueImput Driver which state, it doesn't work on the Vibrant.
The only other options are to wait for the Vibrant to get Android 2.2 or a custom Cyanogen ROM which supports HID.
I flashed teamwhiskey's Onyx rom (froyo with touchwiz software removed and black theme) and my bluetooth keyboard (uses HID) works flawlessly. The rom has been completely stable so far and has a lot of other features, so if you guys are up to it you may just want to flash to froyo rather than buying unproven software.

Can you please post a YouTube video of your accomplishment? I would love to flash my Vibrant with a new Rom but I've only used Cyanogen Mod. I've never heard of TeamWhiskey and am hesitant to take a risk. I really don't want to brick my phone.

You don't have to take my word for it, check out the vibrant development forum. Team whiskey's roms, along with eugenes macnut roms, are possibly the most popular and well respected roms available for vibrant at this time.
I've checked them out and they seem legit. I'm interested in flashing Onyx but I need my swype keyboard. Do you know if it's painless to have my cake and eat it too?
I've also seen that there is a front facing camera jack for the vibrant... Very interested in that as well

Correct. I just paired a Sony Wireless Keypad for the PS3 to this Vibrant running Macnut v12! Just go to Wireless settings, Bluetooth, make device discoverable, power up the keypad by pressing the left blue button before powering the device, pair devices, and type whatever pin number the phone asks you to type on the keypad. It took me a few times to go through it but I am amazed that it works while the phone is being charged.
Now see if I can pair the keypad again after I power it down?
At least you can find this keypad almost anywhere Playstation 3 accessories are sold.

Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone knew of any aftermarket gamepads/keyboards that can attach to the Galaxy via bluetooth/micro usb.
This is due to my friend showing off his Xperia Play, which obviously isn't quite the phone that the SGS2 is. But bragging rights are always nice.
Thanks in advance!
EDIT: I've had a look at Zeemote JS1, MSI Chainpus BGP100, Phonejoy and iControlPad. None are what I'm after, I was picturing something that transforms the phone into something similar to the Xperia Play, but it doesn't seem to exist
Phonejoy. There's a thread about it here and it can be bought here.
Thanks
I was thinking more along the lines of something smaller, that attaches to the device? I understand that there probably isn't anything out there. But it could be something to look forward to as the phone becomes more popular
Towards the end of the thread the icontrolpad is mentioned. I don't think there's much else that works yet though.
I'd like a phonejoy personally, but that's to hook up to my 50" plasma and MHL adaptor, not really a great portable system!

That would be quite nice! It could also work well with my ASUS TF101. I guess we'll have to give it time, or give up

I've always thought about getting a Gamepad then the HDMI cable. Basically playing Emulators on the big screen. That basically be making your phone a game system.
I'm running CyanogenMod, because I love it. But they haven't sorted the HDMI drivers, so I haven't got a cable yet. What would the display look like on a 32" LCD or 50" LCD? That's quite a resolution stretch!

Will do, I was thinking about getting an extended battery. (Samsung just released a 2000 MaH)
But I'd need a new skin for the back cover. I'm using this one right now with the Matte finish and I love it! http://www.istyles.com/milky-way-samsung-galaxy-s-ii-skin-p-70295.html

is it possible to connect the wiimote as a mouse/keyboard?

From memory it has been discussed before and the answer was no. At the moment the search function is down so I can't even find the thread for you...
Sorry, search is temporarily unavailable. Please note, search is down nightly from 12:30AM Eastern / 4:30AM UTC for approximately 20-30 minutes.
Edit:
It apparently works with CyanogenMOD and MIUI. It won't run on anything based on the stock firmware.

Right now, the CyanogenMod and MUIU roms don't have fully functional bluetooth drivers, due to the sheer complexity in writing them. Team Hacksung is working on this though, as far as I'm aware the only part of bluetooth that is working is file transfer.

Are you sure (I guess you are though!)? After reading through some of the threads yesterday it seemed as if people already had them working. I guess I misread/misunderstood.
I need to get some cash together to get a phonejoy, have been wanting one for a while now (just hard to justify!!).
I'm not 100% sure. That was my interpretation. I've decided to get an MHL adapter, and a Phonejoy. They'll fix the drivers eventually if they're not working already
Wiimotes etc do work with MIUI and CM already, lots of user reports confirming this.
MHL doesn't work though, and considering TV Out in the original SGS was a problem for CM developers (still not working as far as I'm aware), it may be some time before they sort out that aspect for us with our SGSIIs.
Well I just bought both, I might go back to a Samsung rom. CyanogenMod has been less than impressive with updates lately
EDIT: Is this as impressive as it sounds?

Sweet, a visit from the much quoted man himself. Now you can answer questions without me having to locate your old threads.
Having no MHL is a major for me. Why bother with a wiimote if you're playing on a 4.3" screen... Just my opinion of course. I'd much rather the Phonejoy/MHL combo.
His reviews sold me
It was a pleasure, gentlemen.
So my friend has gotten her gs3 and just wants as much pink stuff for it as possible. So she has asked me to help her find an alarm clock/pink/charging station for her. I know that they have plenty of these kind of things for IOS but I need something for the gs3. Can anyone suggest anything?
I have not seen any, aside from one on amazon.. that is actually universal, but has mostly all bad reviews, due to being VERY unstable.
if you want want now, i would say get one, and get some paint, add some gems, and call it custom!

I have never seen one... unless you have skills with a dremel, can form new plastic (to make holes smaller) and soldering (to wire in a resistor to trigger "dock mode") wanted to gut an iPhone one, and put in a USB, plug... and at that point, since the S3 is larger.. nevermind. lol.
It would be easier to start one from scratch.... but that is how you win cool points.

I would assume its because its displaying on the laptop dock which has a larger screen and smaller DPI. You can force your S3 into the tablet UI by simply lowering your pixel density, but then everything is so small.

Yeah, but I mean w/o manually editing the DPI. Like a toggle or something built in to ROMs. Would be kinda cool, at least IMO. Especially if someone already has an MHL adapter and plugs it up to their HD TV.

What i would want to see from a device like this is an integrated dock for the phone. Let's say I'm on a plane or a train, i dont want cables between two devices, i would want my phone to clip into the netbook somehow. Maybe on the back of the screen? Or even better, screen up, in next to the trackpad flush with the keyboard, with the Capability to use it as an auxiliary screen. Or why not use the phone itself AS the trackpad?
Even still, as it is now, I'd buy it.

Yeah, I have my note 2 setup like his and people are blown away on how I did it. I am using most of his wallpapers so the phone's background never is the same. He is pretty artistic in the way he has everything setup.

The apple magic mouse, however, only can use its nice touch features while connected to a mac so its really just a simple, thin mouse. The logitech version of the keyboard has a nice case that it comes with, might be a good alternative.

It might be confusing in the beginning but as you watch the video, pause it and do each step as he tells you. The end result will be so worth it.
Great video, as soon as that dock releases, I plan to do something like this.
Nice video. It would be great to see how well Ubuntu (or some other favorite linux distribution) does. This would give you many other office and math applications to use. Anyone try linux on android yet? Downside would be that it has no audio. But performance should be very good.
Amazing stuff. While I'd have to wait for a dock myself, the USB-to-go cable looks like a wonderful alternative. Now, if I can find a reasonably priced portable monitor, I could truly go mobile - no need to worry about lugging around a laptop.
I wonder where he got the tripod or phone holder for the Note 2. . .
Yeah, can't wait to play all my games on the big screen, Arcane Legends, NFS MW, Shadow Gun Dead Zone !!

After seeing this I decided to give it a go. Sadly I don't have a mouse or the MHL connector yet, but it seems to work, at least for productivity. Got ubuntu 12 running with minimal effort, working on debian right now to see which I prefer. It seems pretty hard to use without a mouse, and I am lazy so instead of searching my house for a spare mouse, because I am unwilling to unplug the mouse from my desktop, I instead ordered a cheap bluetooth mouse. When I have everything I will probably make a video for myself.
